AN: My most sincerest apologies! It was never my intent to go this long without updating. I started a new job back in April, which requires a lot of creative writing as I am doing public relations for a non-profit organization (and loving it!), and it's been difficult to find time to do some of my own writing. Know I have not given up on this story...it'll just be a bit slower to unfold than what I had planned.

Thank you to those who leave reviews, who favorite my story, and who continue to check for updates. I will do my best to update as often as I possibly can.

Enjoy as you read and make sure you leave behind reviews -they feed my muse!

TURNED UPSIDE DOWN
BONES

Season 6, Episode 18: The Truth in the Myth

"Why can't you just use that brilliant scientific mind of yours and at least admit that the possibility of what I'm saying here is true?"

The disbelief on her face was obvious as she looked across the table at Booth, "You -you're serious?"

"Just forget it," Booth shook his head, turning his attention back to his breakfast, "You know, you talk a really good game, Bones, but when it comes down to it, you're no different than people who were certain that the sun revolved around the earth."

She let out a soft gasp, blue eyes wide in shock as the pinprick of hurt she felt at his words bloomed, "That's not true."

Booth let out a hum, giving her a pointed look as he tossed a piece of bacon into his mouth, but didn't say anything else.

Looking down at her own half-finished breakfast, she pondered his words as she fiddled with her coffee cup.

Could he be right? Was she as close-minded as he said?

Staring at her computer screen, she continued to mull over Booth's words, wondering if perhaps he was right. Maybe she was close-minded, unable to see past what she knew to be true…but how did she know when something was true?

It was proven, through facts and evidence. It was why she loved science, because it was straight-forward and to the point. There were no hidden meanings, no possible loopholes…but science changed, didn't it?

Through time, science had progressed, and in doing so, what was once declared to be fact was proven false. Being a scientist meant being willing to see the possibility of there being something more behind what looked like facts.

Giving a nod to herself, she leaned forward, opening her browser and getting down to the business of research -it was what she did best, after all.

She was learning to let go of her imperviousness, and perhaps, looking into Booth's outlandish claim to having seen the Yeti might help her learn to open her mind –and heart –just a little more so she could become stronger.

"You mean inexplicable."

"Sure, like us," he smiled at her as she held the taxi door, "We don't make any sense at all."

Smiling at him, she climbed into the back of the taxi, "Good night."

"Night."

He watched as the taxi pulled away from the curb out front of The Founding Fathers, a soft smile on his face as ruminated over Bones' rational explanation of his Yeti encounter. Pushing his hands into the pockets of his coat, he turned towards the parking lot around the corner.

He had been in awe over Bones the last few months, watching her willingly become vulnerable with him in a way she'd never done before. It gave him hope for the future –stopping a few steps away from his government-issued SUV, he realized something.

He wasn't angry anymore. Not with Bones, or Hannah, or even Rebecca.

Most importantly, he wasn't angry with himself, which had been his biggest issue after his relationship with Hannah imploded. How could he not be, when he knew damn well, he hadn't loved Hannah in a forever kind of way.

There was only one woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, and here he was, with his head up his ass, while she was trying so hard to be someone she thought he wanted her to be, when in all reality, he loved her just the way she was –prickly personality and all.

Sliding behind the wheel of his vehicle, he checked the time on his watch, having a sudden urge to spend more time with his Bones. Without a second thought, or doubt of his visit being welcomed, he headed to where he wanted to be.

Temperance let out a soft yawn as she slipped a bookmark into the book she had been reading, setting it on the side table beside her couch before stretching her arms over her head just as a knock sounded on her front door.

Standing up, she looked over at the clock on the wall, her lowered eyebrows relaxing as a second knock sounded throughout the silent apartment. She recognized that knock, and the excitement welling up inside her had her hurrying to the door to look through the peephole to make sure before she unlocked and opened the door, "Booth, is everything okay?"

"Yeah, everything's fine, Bones," he smiled down at her, his brown eyes caressing her beautiful face before dropping to take in the rest of her, "Didn't mean to get you out of bed?"

Looking down at the t-shirt and boxer shorts she was wearing, she let out a soft laugh as she looked up at him, "Oh, I was reading before going to bed. Do you want to come in?"

"If you're not too tired," Booth walked into the apartment as, with a shake of her head, she moved back and further opened the front door in welcome, "I just…I didn't want to go home yet."

"Well," locking the front door, she watched as he draped his black jacket over the back of one of her kitchen chairs, a warmth growing in her chest as he made himself at home in her living room, "Want to watch a movie or something? You can spend the night in the spare bedroom, if you want."

"Nah," Booth looked over at her as he toed off his shoes and stretched out his legs, patting the space beside him, "But I'm all for us watching a couple of episodes of the X-Files."

With a smile of excitement, she moved across the floor, slipping into the space he had left between himself and the arm of the couch. It was a pretty tight fit, and after trying to awkwardly find a way to sit without being plastered to his side, she finally let out a soft sigh before curling her legs under her and snuggling into his side as he wrapped his arm around her shoulders, his fingers slipping into the loose strands of her hair.

As they watched the episode, she could feel him relaxing further under him, his heart beating a steady rhythm under her hand. Looking up at him, she blinked at the realization he wasn't watching the television. His eyes were studying her face, and the smile that spread across his handsome face had her breath catching in her throat.

Swallowing as the sexual tension grew the longer they stared into each other's eyes, she blurted out the first thing that popped into her head, "Mr. Nigel-Murray used my iguana as a hat and spread a rumor we were in a non-committed sexual relationship."

Booth's face, which had been relaxed, turned dark as he looked down at her, "He did what?"

"Used my iguana as a hat," she chuckled as she tucked her head back under his chin, closing her eyes at the feel of his warm, hard body under hers, "I expressed surprise at his ability to keep the iguana on his head. Apparently, he's clever with ribbons. I wonder if anyone got a picture of it."

"Forget the iguana," Booth gave her upper arm a little squeeze, "He told people you two were having sex?"

"Absurd, isn't it," she didn't bother looking up, instead shifting to get even closer to him, her drawn up knees resting on his thigh, "I told him so without realizing how hurtful it would be. I apologized, but he stated it was part of the Alcoholic Anonymous process of making amends."

"I didn't realize he was in AA," Booth dipped his head, closing his eyes as he took in a deep breath of her lily of the valley scented hair.

"Apparently, his Jeopardy winnings opened up a world of indulgence, leading him down the path of alcoholism and bad decisions."

Chuckling, he pressed a kiss to the crown of her head, turning his attention back to the television. As the minutes slipped into an hour, he could tell she was close to falling asleep on him, her body heavy against his side, her soft breath caressing the skin of his throat and jaw with every exhale.

Looking at his watch, he let out a deep breath as he cupped the back of his head with his large hand, her hair soft and cool against the rough skin of his hand, "Time for me to go, Bones."

Her words where slightly muffled as she stayed where she was, "You can stay."

Kissing the top of her head again, he gently jostled her until she straightened up. He swallowed back a groan as his eyes dropped to her chest before looking up at her sleep face, "Becca is dropping Parker off early tomorrow morning, otherwise I'd take you up on the offer of the spare bedroom. Come on –walk me to the door."

Taking her hand, he pulled her up with him, chuckling as she sleepily stumbled behind him. Grabbing his coat with his free hand, he kept her small hand in his as he unlocked her door, rubbing his thumb in slow circles against her soft palm, "Want to join us for breakfast tomorrow?"

Covering her mouth as a yawn made its way out of her, she gave him a nod, her blue eyes sleepy and soft as she stared up at him, "I'll meet you both at the diner?"

Keeping her hand in his, he opened the front door then turned around to face her. Smiling down into her sleepy eyes, he lifted her hand, using his thumb to open her fingers before dipping his head to place a soft kiss in the middle of her palm. Closing her fingers into a fist, he straightened just enough to lean in and kiss her forehead, "We'll pick you up at eight. Parker will be thrilled to see you –something about a science project he's working on."

"I'm excited to see him, too," her eyes, which had been cloudy with sleep, were bright with what he recognized as hope, desire, and what he craved the most from her…love.

Long into the night, as Temperance laid under her blankets in the middle of her bed, she let out a soft sigh as she looked down at her left hand, which she had fisted against her chest. She'd been holding on to the kiss he'd placed on her palm, knowing it was ridiculous but unable to open her hand. Closing her eyes, she kept her fist pressed against her beating heart, letting herself relax as sleep crowded into her thoughts of Booth.
