Chapter Sixty-Three: Fixing Things
Hikaru's POV
I had to fix this. Yuki and Reiko didn't deserve this, they didn't do anything. Although things weren't too good for me either, Tamaki and Kaoru had to stop Hunny-Senpai from trying to kill me when he found out about this whole thing. There had been too many people talking and pictures of us, that were bogus by the way, that anything we said wasn't taken seriously. Kyoya was the one I was scared of at the moment; he hadn't done anything to me yet. I had to fix this before he did. I got Kimi and Kaoru to sit down with me and help me fix this.
"First up we have the video from group one." Professor Kazihiro stated pulling out the disc, we were standing in front of the class to present our project. "Now all of us have heard the rumors and the chairman and I have been talking, he believes our projects on sex, love, lies, and slander will only lead to more sex, lies, and slander. And by what I've seen happen so far, I have to say, I'm starting to believe he's right. Now I haven't seen the video, but I hope my trust has not been misplaced you guys, has it?" Professor Kazihiro looked at us.
"Why don't you ask him?" Reiko nodded to me sadly.
"Yeah, I agree with Reiko, Hikaru would know better than we would." Yuki agreed defeatedly.
"I think if we don't watch it none of us will ever know anything." I stated.
"Okay then." Professor Kazihiro put in the disc.
Yuki's POV
The video went on as we edited it, before it was cut off and replaced by Hikaru on camera.
"So the first time we edited the video, I wasn't in the film because I didn't want to be in the movie. I wanted to be behind the camera and do all of that. I had to share those responsibilities with another person in the group who would have rather not been on camera unless I shoved it in her face and started asking her questions."
"What's this?" I asked Hikaru confused.
"We didn't work on this." Reiko stated, just as confused as I was.
"Let's just call it the director's cut." Hikaru replied.
"One of the reasons I didn't want to be in the video was because I don't have much to say about most of that stuff till now. I don't have much experience with that sort of stuff and I don't think it's fair to them that people think that we did something we didn't and have their lives ruined because of it. We fell asleep editing the project. One of my partners had been up all night the night before researching a cosplay idea and fell asleep while we were looking at the videos. My other partner fell asleep while we were editing after she crashed from the sugar high she had been on trying to keep herself awake. I fell asleep after them because after a while of watching something over and over, you fall asleep. We didn't know until the next morning that we stayed the night. The newspaper got a photo of us just waking up. Found out after a lot of digging, the person who took our picture had a vendetta against one of my partners and decided to slander her and drag my other partner through the mud, and turned him over to the chairman to let him deal with him."
"Which one-" I started to ask Hikaru. He gave me a pointed look. "Me? I haven't done anything to anyone on the-" I started and then I remembered the person, "Oh."
"Oh?" Reiko asked annoyed, "Oh?"
"Okay, I might have rejected this one dude in the Newspaper Club, kind of harshly, but he wasn't getting the hint when I did it nicely." I replied sheepishly.
"I lost the person I love and my reputation, all because you couldn't figure out a way to nicely tell some guy to shove off?" Reiko asked me, "Are you freaking kidding me?!"
"I tried nice." I replied, "He wasn't getting the hint."
"Guys, people are staring." Hikaru told us. We looked over and everyone was watching us instead of the video.
"Oh my god people, get your own life!" I exclaimed, knowing that Reiko wasn't going to be the one to speak up, "We're not that interesting!"
They went back to watching the video that had eventually gotten back to our interviews.
"Friends?" Hikaru asked.
"Friends." I nodded, "Friends?" I looked at Reiko.
She nodded, smiling, "Friends."
"Now all you guys need to do is fix things with them." Hikaru nodded to Hunny and Kyoya.
"Yeah…" We replied.
"Group one, I'm impressed." Kazihiro said when the video was finished, "So impressed that while the next group is setting up, I'm giving you the opportunity to leave if you wish and be done for the day.
We all looked at each other, grabbed our stuff, and bolted out the door. We headed to the club room. No one would be there for the day, so we had somewhere to hang out until one of them came and we had to leave.
"So think that fixed things?" Hikaru asked.
I shrugged, moving over to the piano, "Hard to say."
"It might." Reiko replied, sitting in the window.
"I hope so." Hikaru sighed, flopping on the couch, "If you're going to pluck at the keys, actually play something." He told me before pulling out his phone. I started playing around trying to figure out how to play the song in my head. I eventually got out my laptop and my headphones, put one in my ear, and started to learn how to play the song.
Hikaru's POV
It wasn't too long before Kyoya, Kimi, and Mori came in.
"We can leave if you-" I started.
"No need." Kyoya replied calmly.
"What is she doing?" Kimi asked, gesturing to Yuki, who had her laptop on the piano and headphones in her ears, learning how to play a song. She was lucky it was kind of catchy and that I had my own iPod or I would have told her to change the song.
"Learning how to play a song by ear." I replied, "She's been doing that since we got in here, I told her if she was going to play around on the piano, she should actually play something. She's getting there." I looked to Kyoya, "You gonna talk to her?" I asked him. He raised an eyebrow at me. I sighed, "Fine, do whatever you want, Kyoya-Senpai. Just please don't hurt my friend, she may be the 'Ice Queen', but ice hearts tend to break easily." I looked to Kimi, "Thank you for helping with the project."
Kimi nodded, "No problem."
Tamaki, Haruhi, and Hunny came in a little later, just about the time Reiko, still not noticing, or deciding to ignore, that we weren't the only ones in the room, joined Yuki at the piano. She apparently knew the song she had just figured out how to play. Kyoya and Mori were reading. Kimi and I were talking; Haruhi had joined in the conversation. Tamaki sat next to Kyoya and started to talk to him. Hunny sat down with a piece of cake and he talked to Mori.
"Sing the damn song already!" I called over to them, getting tired of hearing the instrumental.
"So bossy today." Yuki laughed, she had been getting back into her good mood, music would do that for her sometimes, if she was focused on it enough, "Hello everybody."
"Do you have eyes in the back of your head?" Kimi asked her.
"No, Vulcan hearing." She smiled.
"Vulcan?" Kimi asked.
"Star Trek." I told her, "Spock's half Vulcan, he's like an alien version of Kyoya-Senpai."
"I am not like Spock." Kyoya rolled his eyes.
"He's right, Hikaru, he's not Spock." Yuki agreed with him, before adding, "He's missing the pointy ears."
"Do you really want to-" Kyoya started to say.
"It's not an insult, Kyoya." Yuki told him gently, "I adore Spock. He's my favorite character in the franchise." She sighed, standing, "I have to go anyway, so don't worry about hearing anymore references. I have a meeting with the chairman." She told us, putting her stuff back in the bag.
"Wait, why don't we have one?" Reiko asked confused.
"Because you guys aren't in trouble." I replied simply, "I am."
"But you didn't-" I started, and then I realized what she had done, my jaw dropped, "You covered for us. You took all of the blame for us being here all night on Thursday."
"I did." She nodded.
"Are you crazy?" I asked her.
"Reiko, what would happen to you if you got into trouble?" She asked her.
"Depending on how bad, I could lose my scholarship." Reiko answered.
"Hikaru, same question." Yuki looked at me.
"I wouldn't be able to go to Milan with my mom this year." I sighed.
"And so I took the blame." She stated, "Not much will happen to me that I haven't prepared myself for a million times already for." She picked up her bag and left.
Yuki's POV
I took a deep breath once I exited the club room and the doors. It was easy to say I was a little scared, but I wouldn't admit it for all of the Milky Ways in the world. A Milky Way sounds really good right now. Although I think I would admit it for some Godiva chocolate truffles or chocolate covered strawberries. I shook my head and got my mind off chocolate and walked to my father's office.
"Sit down." He stated when I came in before proceeding to lecture me. I sat there and took it all in; knowing arguing would only make my situation worse. He was so upset, and I got the blame for a good portion of it. He wasn't angry enough to send me back, but he was angry enough to give the threat that if I did anything else, he'd let Grandmother go ahead with an idea she had thought of while she was here. I had no idea what that was he would tell me, but I knew any idea of hers was not good news. I left his office with the serious threat of 'If you don't shape up and behave, I'll let your Grandmother do what she wants with you'. She could want me dead for all I know or worse an arranged marriage. My heart raced, an arranged marriage, what if, no; I wasn't even going to venture down that road. I shook my head as I walked away to get rid of the thoughts, but they stuck.
"Are you okay?"
I looked up in surprise to see Kyoya leaning against a the wall, "What-"
"Thought you might want a friend." He replied, walking towards me, "The club didn't really need me today."
I hugged him, after a few moments he hugged back, "I'm sorry." I told him, "I-"
"I'm sorry I didn't believe you." He replied, "Are you okay?"
"No." I replied honestly.
"Do you have to leave?"
"No."
"Then what's the matter?"
"My grandmother has come up with a different plan for me and if I don't learn to behave, my father will let her do it and I don't even know what it is, he wouldn't tell me."
"Then we'll have to keep you out of trouble, and if we fail, then we'll find a way around her plan." He replied, pulling away, "C'mon, I'm taking you out of here."
"Where-"
"We're going to go celebrate White day and Valentine's day."
"Tomorrow's-"
"Do you want chocolate or not?"
I nodded, "Yeah."
"Then let's go."
We left.
Reiko's POV
I left shortly after Yuki did. What was I supposed to do? Stay? I didn't think that would have been such a good idea. I wasn't ready to go home yet, so I went to the library.
"You know you are a hard person to find when you don't want to be found." Someone sat down next to me. I looked over to see Mitsu, "I owe you an apology."
"It's okay." I shrugged.
He shook his head, "No, it's not. I should have listened to you instead of everyone else."
I sighed, "After everything blew up, I don't think I would have listened to me either, so I get why you didn't." I understood why he did what he did. I would have probably done the same thing. I wasn't mad that he did it; I was upset that it happened, but I understood. To be angry with him over some stupid high school drama that we had no real control over would have been ridiculous.
"I'm sorry, Rei."
"I know." I nodded, "I'm sorry too."
"Do you wanna go out to dinner?" He asked, "Maybe?"
"I'd like that." I smiled lightly.
Kimi's POV
"You think they figured everything out?" Haruhi asked me as we went home.
"I think so." I nodded, "Do think you this type of drama happens every year?"
"I hope not." She replied, "What do you think'll happen to the Newspaper Club?"
"I don't know." I shrugged, "They chose to go with a rumored scandal instead of investigating the truth. Instead of an investigative story, they chose a revenge filled tabloid, they're reputation will be trashed a little like Yuki's and Reiko's were and they will have no way to rebuild it until the club is rebuilt itself."
