Chapter Seventy: Home

Kimi's Dream

Crash, the sound that could be heard throughout the land. Shock and awe, the reaction to what made the sound. A small two bedroom apartment landed in Oz on the Wicked Witch of the East, Renge, who was just about to turn another munchkin girl into a little porcelain doll. The apartment fell on top of her, killing her, before she had the chance. The munchkins, who were all female for some odd reason, cheered. Kimi poked her head out to see what the commotion was, they cheered louder. Their cheering was for her.

"I don't understand." Kimi said confused, "Why are you all cheering?"

"You killed Renge, the Wicked Witch of the East!" One of the munchkins exclaimed.

"She's been giving us trouble for years." Another said.

"I'm happy I could help?" Kimi replied.

"I'm not!" Kimi heard as she saw a lavender smoke emerge. When the smoke cleared a petite blonde woman was standing in its place. She had her hair in a braided bun and was wearing a black and teal dress with a cape that was a color in-between purple and magenta. The munchkins backed away in fear, the munchkins who were porcelain dolls were yelling at her. "Keep yelling and you'll be nothing but broken pieces!" She yelled at them, before turning to Kimi, "You! You killed Renge!"

"What makes you think I killed her?" Kimi asked her.

"You're the only outsider here and you're the one who came out of the building that killed her." She replied dryly.

"Was she a friend of yours?"

"I wanted to kill her, you moron." She seethed, "The only negative thought I have about her death is that I didn't get the chance to do it myself, the chance that you stole-" She stopped, her eyes widening seeing the shoes that Kimi was wearing, "You killed her and got the shoes?! Are you kidding me?!"

Kimi looked down at her feet; her black heels had been switched for ruby red satin heels, the heels that Renge was wearing were now switched with hers. "What the…"

"Give me the shoes." The blonde woman commanded.

"Why should I?" Kimi scoffed.

"You have no idea how much power those shoes possess." She replied, "Now give me the damn shoes!"

"No." Kimi retorted.

"Leave Yuki, we have an agreement and you're going in violation of it." A brunette woman came over; she was in a gold and parchment colored dress with pink detailing, fly away sleeves, and a blue sash. She had a silver crown on her head.

"But she-" Yuki started to argue.

"Go." The brunette told her again. Yuki groaned. "You were the one who made the agreement, I never forced you."

Yuki looked to Kimi, "You're going to pay for what you've done." She disappeared in a puff of lavender smoke.

"Who are you and who was that?!" Kimi asked the brunette.

"I am Sumi, more commonly known as the Good Witch of the North, and that was Yuki, who is more commonly known in these parts as the Wicked Witch of the West." Sumi answered.

"Where am I?"

"Why, you're in Oz, of course." Sumi smiled, "Now before you ask, the shoes are powerful. They're more than pretty ruby red heels, they hold cosmic power. Those who know how to use magic and are aware of how to use the shoes properly, they can give the wearer unlimited power."

"How do you use them?"

"You're not going to know because I'm sending you home."

"But I want to stay."

"You know what, you go to the Wizard and wait to decide what you want until you meet her. If you want to stay, then ask for a way to stay in Oz, but if you want to go home, the Wizard will send you home."

"I thought wizards were boys."

"Here it's a job title that's inherited." Sumi shrugged.

"How do I get to the Wizard?"

"She lives in Emerald City. Follow the yellow brick road and you'll be sure to get there."

"Follow the yellow brick road?"

"Follow the yellow brick road." The munchkins told her and kept on repeating it. She did as she was told and followed it.

"Nobody knows the trouble I've seen

Nobody knows my sorrow…" A voice was singing sadly, "Huh, I don't remember the rest. I'll just sing something else, got nothing else to do." The guy said to himself before starting to sing, "I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts

And they're all standing in a row

Big ones, small ones

Some bigger than your head-"

Kimi went over to him. He was a tall, blond, purple eyed scarecrow. "If you're alive, why are you stuck up there?" She asked him.

"Renge, the Wicked Witch of the East, stuck me up here with her powers." The scarecrow replied, "She got into a fight with my sister and instead of taking her anger out on her, she took it out on me. When she met me, she thought I was a brainless phony, so she turned me into a brainless scarecrow to match what she thought I was."

"What's your name?"

"Tamaki." He answered.

"Tamaki, I'm going to see the Wizard, would you like to come with me?"

"Yes!" Tamaki exclaimed. Kimi helped him down and he hugged her happily. He linked arms with her and sang as the skipped, arm n' arm, down the yellow brick road, "We're off to see the Wizard, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz!"

They ran across a high-tech little metal building, the noise coming from it made the two stop. They looked at each other curiously and then went inside. There wasn't much to the inside of the little metal building, different types of computers and screens everywhere. It was cold, literally and figuratively. In the middle of all the technology was a robotic human computer.

"Renge, I am not and will not change my answer." The human computer said, hearing them come in, "I don't care if I'm stuck like this forever."

"Good thing, we're not Renge then, my friend." Tamaki told him. The human computer turned to look at them surprised, when he saw Kimi, the surprise turned to confusion.

"Where's-"

"I don't know." Tamaki said before he could finish, "I haven't seen her."

"That isn't good."

"It is what it is." Tamaki shrugged.

"You two know each other?" Kimi asked them. They both nodded. "I'm Kimi."

"Kyoya." He introduced himself.

"He was engaged to my sister." Tamaki replied, "But Renge was in love with him and he didn't return her feelings, and she couldn't figure out why, so she turned him into a robot."

"To reflect the way I treated her." Kyoya added.

"Renge's dead." Kimi stated, "She was flattened by a two bedroom apartment."

"That's slightly off-putting." Kyoya replied.

"We're going to see the Wizard; would you like to come with us?" Kimi asked, "Maybe she could turn you back."

"I would, but I'm wired to the desks and screens." Kyoya replied.

"You're what makes all the screens, machines, and computers work." Kimi said in realization.

"I'm the power source." Kyoya nodded, and then he saw the shoes she was wearing, "Where did you come across those?"

"They appeared when Renge died, her shoes were switched with mine."

"I see." Kyoya replied.

"If we cut you loose, would you like to come with us?" Kimi asked him.

"Very much."

Kimi and Tamaki pulled out the wires and helped him up. They left the little metal building and wandered down the yellow brick road and into the woods. They heard thunder crash above them.

"I think I was safer inside." Kyoya sighed, "Out here, I'm a walking lightning rod."

"If it gets worse, we'll try to find somewhere to go." Kimi replied. Thunder crashed again. A small lioness ran past them terrified before freak lightning struck her; it managed to get her tail though. "Something tells me this is more than just a thunderstorm."

"Make anyone angry lately?"Kyoya asked. Tamaki gave him a look. Kyoya shrugged.

"The Wicked Witch of the West, she was angry that I killed Renge because she was going to do it, no idea why, but she wanted to do it, and I killed her, by accident, before she got her chance." Kimi answered.

"Everyone has their reasons." Kyoya replied, "We should probably tell that lioness that her tail's on fire."

They backtracked down the road until they found the lioness, who had found out her tail was on fire and was soaking it in a pond.

"You okay?" Kimi asked her. The lioness backed away in fear and surprise. "We're not here to hurt you; we saw the lightning hit your tail. We wanted to make sure you're okay."

"Yeah, I'm fine, more scared of the thunder than the lightning, yeah it hurts, but it happens from time to time. Flying monkeys sometimes like to cause trouble."

"Flying monkeys did this to you?" Kimi asked confused.

"Oh yeah, two of the Wicked Witch of the West's flying monkeys get bored from time to time and they venture out here and play. They weren't even aiming at me, they were aiming at you."

Kimi looked back to Tamaki and Kyoya, "How much do you know about the Wicked Witch of the West?"

They both shrugged, "Enough."

"Would she send her flying monkeys after me?"

"Possibly." Kyoya replied.

"I wouldn't rule it out." Tamaki replied.

"What's her problem?" Kimi asked annoyed.

"You squashed all of her chances at revenge?" Kyoya replied, "Everyone has their reasons behind things." He looked to the lioness, "We're going to see the Wizard of Oz, do you want to come?"

"Sure." The lioness shrugged.

"What's your name, beautiful lioness?" Tamaki asked.

"Haruhi." She answered, and then looked at the other two, "Is he always like this?"

Kimi made an 'I don't know' sort of gesture, "I just met him today."

"Yes, he is." Kyoya answered, "Are you coming or not?"

"Yeah." Haruhi nodded.

They continued down the road to Emerald City.

The scene changes to inside a dark castle high upon a mountain top.

"We almost got her, boss!" One of the twin flying monkeys yelled coming in, "Kaoru would have gotten her if he hadn't missed."

"Got who?" Yuki asked confused.

"The girl who stole your chance at giving Renge her just desserts." The twin replied.

"Hikaru, I didn't ask you to kill her, I told you to scare them farther down the road towards the city so they'd get to Reiko. She should have been there by now." Yuki replied, "Kaoru was right to miss. I don't have much power left; you were supposed to make her run to Emerald City with what I gave you."

"We found out what was taking her so long though." Kaoru replied, "She's made friends."

"That's nice." Yuki rolled her eyes, "Definitely what we needed."

"She helped Tamaki down and freed Kyoya from his wired bonds."

Yuki remained quiet and nodded.

"Is there anything else you would like for us to do?" Kaoru asked.

She shook her head, "You're free to do as you wish, thank you."

They left.

The scene changes, the four have made it to Emerald city and to the Wizard of Oz. The Wizard was a small redhead dressed in green and gold sitting on top of a throne, holding a gold staff in hand.

"The Wizard's a leprechaun?" Kimi muttered when she saw her.

"The Wizard's name is Reiko, and you're lucky I'm in a good mood, or I wouldn't help you after that comment. I mean show a little respect, why should I help you if you don't give me the respect I deserve?"

"Sorry." Kimi apologized

"Now, you all visited me for a reason, what is it that I can do for you?" Reiko asked.

Kimi thought about it and was surprised by her answer when it came to her. She thought she wanted to stay, but this place just wasn't right for her. "I want to go home, I don't belong in Oz, I have people who love me that I need to get back to, and I thought this was the best place for me, but it's not. I need to go home."

Reiko nodded in understanding, "There's no place like home." She looked to Tamaki, "What would you like?"

"I'd really not like to be a scarecrow anymore; I'd like my brain and my body not to be made of straw and cloth like they are now. I'd like them to be real like they used to be." Tamaki explained, "I'd like to think and dream again, I mean how can you dream with a head full of straw?"

"You can't." Reiko sighed in understanding, "And you?" She asked Kyoya.

"I would like to be human again and have my heart back." Kyoya answered.

"You have someone you love that you need to get back to, to save." Reiko replied knowingly.

Kyoya nodded, "She needs me and has for a long time."

"We'll always need the ones we love; they make us who we are." Reiko smiled softly, before looking at Haruhi, "Is there anything you would like?"

"No, I'm just along for the ride." Haruhi replied.

"You sure?" Reiko asked, "No courage? No solutions to handle fear?"

"No, I'm good." Haruhi replied.

"Think on it, okay?" Reiko told her, "Alright, those of you who made requests, or might make one later, you do have to do something for me in return before I grant your wishes."

They nodded.

"The Wicked Witch of the West is a threat to Oz that needs to be handled, if you can do the job, you will have your wishes granted." Reiko told them, "You may all go, except for Kyoya, I need to speak with him for a minute."

They all left.

"What the hell did you just do, Reiko?!" Kyoya yelled at her, dropping his cool demeanor and going straight to anger, "You just sent us after Yuki, are you kidding?! I'm not killing her! She's done nothing wrong-"

Reiko cut him off, "Kyoya, that was not my plan at all. You know you are not the only one who is affected by this and have loved ones that need to be saved. My husband's a flying monkey, for god sake. I know as well as you do, Yuki has been blamed for most of Renge's, well there's a lot of things involving Renge and a few other horrible witches and wizards of the past, and she took it because, well, the more you fear someone the less you bother them, but that's not the point, this is our chance to save everyone. Do you have any of your charming mobile devices on you?"

"But of course."

"Send word to Sumi to warn Yuki, hopeful she can get there before you all do."

"If she skips traveling by bubble, she will."

"Her subjects like it."

"Her subjects are brainless, gullible twits." Kyoya pointed out as he sent a message to Sumi.

"True." Reiko nodded, "So, is she going to go?"

"If their friendship means anything to her and if she wants her husband back, I believe so."

"Good, now go join the others."

Kyoya nodded and did as he was told.

The scene changes to Sumi who has just entered the dark castle.

"You know a little more light might brighten the place up a little." Sumi told Yuki, coming over to her.

"Less light, less people think someone's actually home." Yuki replied.

"The girl, Kimi, she's coming after you, you know." Sumi told her.

"I guessed she eventually would." Yuki nodded, "Reiko tell her to come?"

"Yeah."

"Let them come." Yuki replied defeatedly, "There's not much I can do about it, but stand by and watch."

"We can plan a way out of this."

"I'm limited, Sumi!" Yuki argued, "Look at me, I don't have much power left."

"Then find a way without it, if you, Kyoya, and Tamaki put your heads together, you'll find a way out. Don't give up just yet." Sumi replied.

"I'll try." Yuki nodded, "Takashi's in the tower if you want to see him."

She nodded and started to leave to go see him.

"Sumi, I'm sorry."

"You were the one who changed him, or the others into flying monkeys, your father did." Sumi replied, "You take care of them and give them a home, and I'm thankful for that. When I get the shoes, I'll change them back, but she has to go home first, luckily for us, the shoes can't leave Oz." Sumi left to go find Takashi. "Hey you." She greeted him. He was in the tower sitting in the window. "You always did like the window." She sat down next to him. He looked at her and smiled. Unlike Hikaru, Kaoru, and Hunny, when Takashi was turned into a flying monkey, his ability to speak was taken along with it. "How are you?" She asked him. He gave her a pointed look. "Other than being a flying monkey." Sumi replied, "You know I can't fix you until I have the shoes."

He sighed and shrugged.

"I miss you too." Sumi leaned into him; he put his arms around her and pulled her to him, "It won't be like this much longer." He rested his head on hers, "The girl with the shoes, Kyoya, Tamaki, and a lioness are coming. Keep her safe."

Takashi knew which 'her' she was referring to, she was one of the only 'her's, he would do anything to keep safe and protect, the other three being his wife, his daughter, and Reiko. All four were family and were worth fighting for and protecting. Takashi kissed her head as if to say he will.

"I have to go." She sighed, kissing his cheek. He looked at her sadly. She smiled softly, "I'll be back soon." She kissed him lightly and disappeared. Takashi looked up at the ceiling, closed his eyes, and sighed. He had always loved and appreciated Sumi, he loved his daughter, Hana, but sometimes you don't realize how much people have an affect on you until they're gone and he missed them greatly, more and more with each year that he was stuck in this curse. With out them, it was like he was living a half-life and it was breaking his heart. He shook his head and went to join the others. Hikaru, Kaoru and Hunny were all gathered around Yuki, asking her what to do.

"I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do." Yuki told them, "I don't have enough power."

The flying monkeys all looked at each other. She may not be able to do anything, but they could. The four of them flew off the balcony to defend their home.

The scene changes back to the group of four, looking upon the dark castle.

"Okay, nobody's home, I say we go." Haruhi said, turning around.

Kimi turned her back around, "We told the Wizard we'd take care of her, so we're going to. There's no turning back now."

"I didn't even ask for anything." Haruhi replied.

"But you agreed to come and do it." Kimi told her, "Plus it's four against one."

"Tell them that." Haruhi pointed to the flying monkeys, before they were all picked up and carried off into the dark castle. The girls were locked away in one room and the boys another, both had monkeys guarding the door.

"Okay, maybe next time you go off to take care of someone, you should have a plan." Haruhi told Kimi.

"I had a plan." Kimi replied.

"You didn't have a plan."

"I had eleven percent of a plan." Kimi admitted, "But we can still make one up while we're in here."

"I hope you weren't the one who came up with all of the plans where you used to live, you're not really good at it." Harhi replied.

"No, I had a few friends who were really good at that stuff." Kimi sighed, "I never really had to come up with most of them on my own."

"And you were thinking about living here?" Haruhi asked, "Everyone's out to get one another, you're lucky if you have real friends here."

"Tamaki and Kyoya seemed like real friends."

"They've also have someone in common." Haruhi pointed out.

"The girl." Kimi nodded, "So what do you know about the Wicked Witch of the West?"

"Only rumors." Haruhi shrugged, "Like she has an extra eye that always remains awake, or that she can shed her skin as easily as a snake, and that for years until she found the dark castle, rebel animals were giving her food and shelter." Haruhi thought about the other rumors she had heard, "I heard her soul is so unclean, pure water can melt her."

"Why don't we do that." Kimi suggested.

"Do what?"

"Melt her."

"How would that even work?" Haruhi asked her, "Where would we get the water? We're stuck in here."

"If we put our heads together, I'm sure we could find some way to do it."

The scene changes to the guys who are in a different room, guarded by monkeys, talking to Yuki. One of the guard monkeys runs in.

"They're going to try to melt you, boss!" Hikaru exclaimed.

Yuki looked at him confused, "How?"

"Water?" Hikaru replied confused.

Yuki laughed, "Water can't melt me."

"What if it could?" Tamaki asked.

"What?" Yuki asked confused.

"What if water could melt you?" Tamaki asked again, "Think about it, if you were presumed to be dead, you could leave Oz and go anywhere you want."

Yuki looked to Kyoya, "What do you think?"

Kyoya shrugged, "If you want to leave Oz, I leave Oz. There's nothing here for me except for you."

Yuki looked to Tamaki, "Are you going to be okay?"

"Me?" Tamaki smiled, "I'll be fine."

"Then we go, I don't care where." Yuki told Kyoya. He nodded. She looked to Hikaru, "Make sure they have everything they need to melt me and make sure that Sumi gets the shoes back, so she can change all of you, except Tamaki, you have to go back to Reiko with your lioness friend and Kimi, but anyway Sumi gets the shoes so she can change you back the way they were before. Make sure they think they're the ones finding the stuff."

Hikaru nodded, "Of course, boss." He left to go do as he was told.

The scene changes back to Haruhi and Kimi. They just finished gathering everything and they filled the wooden bucket they found with the water that they happened to come across when they were accidentally let out of the room they were being held in.

"That was really lucky." Haruhi commented.

"Yeah, it was like we were handed them to us on a silver platter." Kimi agreed.

"I don't know if your parents ever told you this, but my father always told me 'never trust a silver platter'."

"No, my friends were trying to though." Kimi replied, "We don't have time to question it though."

Haruhi nodded, "So, we just throw it on her when she comes in."

"Basically." Kimi shrugged.

"Worst plan ever." Haruhi replied, "I hope it works."

When Yuki came in, they threw the water on her. She screamed and with lightning and dark violet smoke she was gone.

"I can't believe that worked." Kimi said in surprise.

"It was your plan."

"Yeah, but I never expected it to work." Kimi replied.

"C'mon let's go get the boys before someone else gets us." Haruhi replied.

They ran out the door, almost colliding into Tamaki.

"Tamaki, you're okay!" Kimi smiled, and then saw that Kyoya wasn't with him, "Where's-"

"Flying monkeys ripped him apart, it was the saddest thing." Tamaki shook his head.

"I'm so sorry." Kimi told him.

"Yeah." Haruhi nodded.

He shrugged, "He's with the one he loves now, so it's okay. We should probably get to the Wizard and tell her that the Witch is gone."

The girls nodded not really knowing what to say and they all left to go see the Wizard.

"They're gone boss." Hikaru said after they left. Yuki came out of the shadows with Kyoya, "Why are you dry? I thought they drenched you."

"They missed." She replied.

"So what do we do now?" Kaoru asked.

"We wait." Kyoya replied.

The scene changes to Emerald City, Tamaki, Haruhi, and Kimi arrived to see Reiko, who already had a guest, Sumi, the Good Witch of the North.

"Were you successful?" Reiko asked.

"Yes." They replied.

"We lost a member of our group though." Kimi told them.

Tamaki winked at Reiko and Sumi without the other two seeing, to let them know they were okay.

"Yeah, I noticed the robot wasn't with you." Reiko replied dryly, "Okay, so who goes first?"

"Ladies first, I'm not in any hurry." Tamaki suggested.

"Haruhi, is there anything that you want?" Reiko asked her, "Letting go of any paronias? Humanity? I could make you human like him."

"I don't see the point." Haruhi replied.

"Okay, let's just give you an IOU." Reiko sighed, "Kimi, ready to go home?"

"More than ready." Kimi replied.

"Awesome." Reiko replied, "All you have to do is click your heels together and say 'There's no place like home' three times, exactly like in the movie."

"You mean I could have gone home this whole time?!" Kimi asked annoyed.

"Yeah." Reiko nodded, "At any point in time, but you're the one who wished to come here in the first place."

"I didn't wish-" Kimi started and then thought back to earlier.

"Wouldn't it be great to live in Oz?" I asked Haruhi.

"I don't know." Haruhi shrugged, "The whole movie Dorothy wants to go home."

"Dorothy also didn't know what she had until it was gone, she spent her whole journey learning what she had. She didn't appreciate her life."

"And you wouldn't want to want to come home?"

"I don't know." I shrugged, "Not that you and your dad aren't great, you're wonderful and I appreciate it."

"But it wasn't what you were expecting."

"Not really, well not so soon at least."

"I did wish to come here." Kimi said in realization, "I didn't know it would happen though."

"You should be careful what you wish for, sometimes you might just get it." Reiko replied.

"I was wrong." Kimi admitted, "I didn't realize how much I had. When my parents disowned me and threw me out, at first it was a relief, I could finally breathe, but then it sunk in, even though I had the person I cared for and who cared for me, I lost my entire family, I mean they were never around and they didn't really care much about me other than what I could do for them, but they were my family and they discarded me like trash. I was lucky enough to find a home with a friend of mine, a very good friend, I didn't realize how good of a friend or how good any of my friends truly were, until I came here. It took me coming here to realize that I've made my own family. It may be little and it may be broken, but we're still a family. I have a sister that's like a moral compass and helps guide me when I'm wrong. I have a brother who may not say much, but I know he's there when I need him. I have a sister who shows me how to have fun and how to live life and who I know if I got into trouble, she'd be sitting right there with me laughing her ass off and saying how awesome it was and that we should do it again. I have a brother who, when I've had a bad day, makes me laugh without even trying. I have a brother that even though he doesn't show it, he has a heart of gold. I have a brother who's sweet and reminds me it's okay to be a kid every once in a while. I have a sister, she's a bit new to the family, but still just as important as the others, she helps keep my mind open to new things. I have a brother who when things go wrong, I know, in his own odd way, he'll try to make things right. I have a sister who still cares for me even when I don't appreciate her as much as I should. And I have a dad that even though he doesn't have to, he still cares for me like I'm his kid." Kimi sighed, "I have so much going for me, that's going right. Let me go home. I just wanna go home."

"Then you know what to do." Reiko replied.

"There's no place like home." She clicked her heels together, "There's no place like home." She clicked her heels again. "There's no place like home." She clicked her heels and she was gone.

End Dream

"Kimi, you're having a bad dream." Someone tried to wake her, "Dude, c'mon, wake up."

I opened my eyes, Yuki was standing over me. 'It was only a dream…' I sighed in relief. "Did I wake you?"

"No, I was up. I was working some stuff out for the club for the fall and I went to go get water and when I passed by your room. I heard you saying 'Let me go home' and 'I just wanna go home' before repeating 'There's no place like home' over, and over, and over. I thought I might as well help you get back home a little sooner. I told you that movie was evil."

I smiled and hugged her.

"Why are you hugging me?"

"No reason." I replied letting go.

"Okay." Yuki nodded, before handing me her kindle, "Reading helps nightmares and helps you sleep. It gets your mind off of whatever you just saw. I've got around 116 books in there. I pulled up one you might like and took the password off of it for now, but feel free to look through it. Give it back after you've finished one." She left.

I opened the cover of the kindle and the first page of the book appeared before me, it was A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I had never read it growing up and had heard of the movie. Curiously, I started to read.
