Chapter Seventy-Three: Holding Out for a Hero

Yuki's POV

I let Kimi borrow my kindle and my movie collection, so she had something to distract her from what was going on until I figured out a way to fix it. I talked to Kaoru, he tried to talk to Kimi first, but that obviously wasn't going to happen. The date was actually set up for Hikaru. I was less angry with him and thought he was a little more of an idiot, but I did agree to help find a way to fix this. I hadn't talked to Haruhi, wasn't going to until she fixed this with Kimi. I talked to Tamaki that night, well actually it wasn't really a conversation, he mostly just yelled at me the whole time. He demanded that I go and apologize to Haruhi; I refused and he only yelled more. I ended up pushing him out the door and locking it. After a while, he got tired of yelling at the door and left.

"Yuki, I'm not talking to you through a door." Kyoya called, "Open the door."

"I'm not apologizing to Haruhi."

"Then don't, I don't care." He replied, "I just want to talk to you. We don't have to talk about what happened, we don't even have to talk about club, just open the door." He sighed. I leaned against the door listening to him. "I don't care what you say, just talk to me, till I press you close to me then you'll see, we won't have to talk at all."

I opened the door.

"Bye Bye Birdie?" I asked surprised, "That's what you choose?"

"It got you to open the door." He replied, shutting the door behind him, "Come here."

I hugged him and he kissed my head.

Sumi's POV

"I'm sorry I-" Takashi started to apologize after we put Hana to bed, I stopped him.

"It's alright, she's fine. She was playing when I found her, you don't have to apologize."

"No, I promised I'd look after her and I didn't."

"It's okay; nothing happened to her, she's alright." I squeezed his hand lightly, "I borrowed a movie from Yuki's collection before she gave it to Kimi, you wanna watch it with me?" I asked him to try to take his mind off it. I borrowed Romancing the Stone. I didn't know if he'd really like it, but I thought it looked interesting.

He nodded, "Yeah.

We went back to our room to watch the movie.

The next day, Hikaru took Haruhi out for the date instead of Kaoru. Kimi, Reiko, and I went and saw the movie. Yuki, unhappily, went with Kaoru and the others to make sure everything went alright and plan a way to fix things with Kimi. She'd been wanting to see this movie for a while, I guess Kaoru's just lucky the movie's Captain America 2 and not Guardians of the Galaxy. She would have probably ripped his head off if she missed the later one.

Yuki's POV

'Kill me now…' I thought annoyed as I sat with Takashi, Hunny, and Kyoya, listening to Tamaki cry and yell at Kaoru about Haruhi going out on a date with Hikaru.

"You know this might be Haru-chan's first date." Hunny mentioned. Tamaki freaked out more and pointed to what she was wearing and how cute it looked.

"That doesn't help the situation, Hunny." I told him as Kaoru explained what we did to her this morning and how we sent his maids in to basically ambush her into getting ready and looking girly.

"No fair!" He cried as we followed them.

"You know slapping him might bring his hysteria down." I commented.

"You're just mad, you're here and missing your movie." Kaoru replied.

"Yeah, I am." I nodded, "I've been waiting to see that movie for months. You're lucky I'm not missing Guardians of the Galaxy to be here."

Kaoru looked at me scared, which he should be, before explaining to Tamaki that it would be good for Hikaru to find other people that he can be close to. They grew up only relying on each other, so they became self-absorbed. Hikaru was immature and let his emotions take over his reasoning. Kaoru didn't know if Hikaru was aware of it or not, but he cared for Haruhi and didn't know how to react, so his emotions ran wild. He was selfish and wanted all of her attention. He wanted to be acknowledged by her and didn't know how.

"If you want true friends, friends who aren't only your toys, you have to learn to respect them." Kaoru told us, "That's the only way you can have a meaningful relationship and I think it's about time Hikaru learned that lesson for himself."

"Kaoru, that was amazing." Tamaki commented.

"So in other words, this date is basically a test to see if Hikaru can handle being thoughtful towards others, right?" Kyoya asked him.

"Just promise me you won't interfere with them, okay?" He asked us.

"Fine, but why are we following them?" Tamaki asked.

"Because there's no way we should miss out on something this interesting." Kaoru replied. We followed after him.

"Kaoru, I thought I was here to help you with Kimi." I told him, getting more annoyed; being here just to follow Hikaru and Haruhi was a waste of my time and not something I really wanted to do on top of that.

"You are, we're just going to follow them while we do it." He replied.

"No," I shook my head and turned around, "I didn't sign up for this, I'm going back."

"Please Yuki, I know how I went about this was stupid, but I need to make sure Hikaru doesn't screw this up and I need you to help me with Kimi, please." Kaoru called after me.

I sighed and turned around, "Fine, but you owe me big."

Sumi's POV

"You want me to do what?" I asked Yuki confused when she told me her and Kaoru's plan after they got back.

"Get rid of the band, so we can fill in. They can go back to their crappy show tomorrow." She replied, "You know how much Kimi likes those 80's and 90's chick flicks. She wants Heath Leger singing his heart out to get her back. She wants John Cusack holding a boombox outside her window. She wants to ride off on a lawnmower with Patrick Dempsey. She wants Jake from Sixteen Candles waiting outside the church for her. She wants Judd Nelson thrusting his fist into the air because he knows he got her. She's said that it would be awesome for her life to resemble a movie, preferably one with a really awesome musical number for no apparent reason. Let's give it to her. Kaoru's willing to do whatever it takes."

"Okay, how's this going to work out?"

"Heath Ledger first." She replied, "I sing, Kaoru sings, you sing last."

"Why am I singing?"

"Band always closes with a girl on acoustics; we'll keep the night unplugged and acoustic." She shrugged, "Okay, if that doesn't work, Reiko has agreed to let us use the scavenger hunt to get them back together."

"She shouldn't have."

"She said when this plan doesn't work, use the scavenger hunt." She replied, "She offered it."

"Alright, what are we singing?"

"Kaoru's wants to do Goo Goo Dolls, he said he'd let you know what song when he figures out which one he wants to do. You get to pick your's out."

"And you?"

"I don't know."

"Why don't you let me figure that one out, I'll leave the music on the piano." I replied.

"Okay." She shrugged.

Reiko's POV

Sumi did manage to make the band disappear for the night and Kaoru did sing. He sang Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. In all honesty, he should have gone with Not Broken, but he was the one who picked out the song. Sumi picked out Yuki's song and she sang Only Hope by Mandy Moore from A Walk to Remember, which Kimi loves and it was a good pick, but I was kind of curious what Yuki would have picked out.

"Haruhi and Hikaru?" Mizuzu asked Arai. He had called her while our temporary singers were taking a break. After he got off the phone he told us that Hikaru left Haruhi in front of the produce shop and he'd head back on his own. Haruhi took after Hikaru when it started to pour and Arai was calling to see if they had made it home okay. They hadn't returned yet.

Yuki's POV

Tamaki got out his phone and called Hikaru.

"You idiot! I want you to turn around and start looking for Haruhi right now!" Tamaki yelled at Hikaru, "What kind of jerk would leave a girl in a thunderstorm like this by herself?"

'It's not that bad.' I rolled my eyes, 'She's not gonna melt.'

"Now you listen to me, Haruhi is terrified of thunder, whenever she hears it she gets so scared she can't even move."

'We're all afraid of something, doesn't mean we get white horses to save us every time something happens.'

"Why don't you spend less time concentrating on your jealousy, and more time concentrating on someone else for once?!" He yelled at Hikaru before hanging up.

"You know I think I could ask you the same question, well the end of that question, really." I commented.

Tamaki turned towards me annoyed, "What did you say?"

Most of the guys looked a little shocked. Sumi shook her head lightly; she knew this was going to happen sooner or later. I tell her everything; she knew that sooner or later I'd completely crack. Reiko wasn't too surprised either. Kimi looked down, she had been feeling a lot of the same things I had recently.

"You heard me."

"I'm not the selfish and jealous one between the two of us." He replied. I looked at him shocked for a brief moment before hiding that shock and hurt. Everything I did was for him and our friends.

"No, you pay so much attention to Haruhi that you don't care about anyone else." I replied, "You yelled at Hikaru when he didn't deserve it, he didn't know she was afraid of thunder or that she followed him. She didn't get yelled at when she hurt Kimi, well not by you, I did that because she deserved it. You don't agree to go out with your friend's boyfriends. That's just wrong, but no, I get yelled at for yelling at her. You wanted, no, demanded, an apology because I defended my friend and yelled at your precious Haruhi."

"You're going to apologize to her."

"No, I'm not." I replied, emphasizing those three words, "There's more to life than what's happening right now, she'll get over it. Like she'll get over what's going on right now. If she's so scared of thunder, she'll have found somewhere to hide until it blows over. She can look after herself; just because she's a girl and has a fear, doesn't mean she's helpless. Everyone has fears, doesn't mean we all have white horses coming to save our asses."

"At least her fear is more rational than yours."

I sighed, "It is a little irrational to fear the inevitable." I looked down and shook my head; I wasn't going to show it, any of it. "I know that when I leave here, I will have no one. I will be alone again trying to figure out how to take care of myself, pay for every little thing I have to pay for on my own, and I have to start all over when I go back because I gave up everything to come here, to be with you, and yeah, that's scary. I hate being alone, but I deal with it, because I have no other choice. The only person in the end who can save me is me. Unlike you, I don't get to spend the rest of my life being wealthy, and pampered, and cared for, I have to work for every little thing I get, to actually have a life. I'm the spare, the screw up, that one wasn't wanted, and you'll never know what it feels like to be me. I came here to see you, to be with you, and now I don't even get why I even came in the first place." I left. I was going to lose it and it sure as hell wasn't going to be in front of everyone. The rain wasn't going to bother me. I don't melt.

Sumi's POV

Kyoya ran after Yuki. Tamaki was going to run after her, but Kaoru stopped him, "Let him go after her, Boss. She needs to talk to someone who can understand what she's going through. You'll get your chance to talk to her and apologize, but she's not going to want to talk to you right now, let her calm down before you apologize, let Kyoya-Senpai be the hero she needs, the one she's been holding out for, he's the one she needs right now." Kaoru told him, and then looked at me, "Sumi, do you think you could play that last song?"

"Uh, yeah sure." I replied confused, and got my guitar out of its case, "This is a song that in light of recent events, I thought might be fitting, and makes even more sense now. Everyone needs a hero once in a while, whether we know it or not, we all hold out for one." I started to play, "One, two, three." I counted off before I started to sing Holding Out for a Hero.

Third Person POV

The faster Yuki ran, the easier it was to keep the hurt and the tears in. She knew if she stopped, her tears would only fall like the pouring rain. Running was easier and faster, it didn't solve anything or help her forget, on the contrary it made her think about it more, but it was all she could think to do for now. She didn't know Kyoya had run after her or that he was looking for her. No one ran after her last time she left upset, she didn't think why anyone would bother now.

By the time Yuki had stopped to catch her breath, she was lost and was so out of breath she couldn't run anymore. She slid down to the ground and leaned against the tree. There were no people around, she closed her eyes and started to cry. Once the tears started, she couldn't stop them as much as she could stop the rain. Both of them poured against her cheeks, the only difference was the temperature. The tears were hot and the rain felt like ice against her skin.

When Kyoya caught up to her, he lost everything he was going to say, he had really no words that he could think of anymore. He knew how she felt, his was different, but he still knew. He pulled her to him, "It's okay, let it out. You don't have to be so strong all the time. I've got you." She hugged him and continued to cry. He kissed her head and pulled her close to him. "I love you." He whispered, "I want you." She rested her head on his shoulder. "You're not a spare or a screw up, not to me."

Leaning against a tree, Hikaru tried to rack his brain for what had gone wrong. "How the hell was I supposed to know if she never told me?" Hikaru asked himself, before remembering every mention of the weather he had heard from Haruhi that day. "There's no way I could have figured that out!" He yelled before sprinting to go find Haruhi.

Hikaru looked everywhere for Haruhi. He asked everyone he could if they had seen her. He looked in little shops, restaurants, and stores. He ran all over town, but to no avail. He stopped for a moment to catch his breath. Lightning crashed, he looked up and he was in front of a church. He went inside to see if Haruhi had gone in there.

Hikaru found Haruhi in the church; she was underneath the table, terrified of the storm. He took the tablecloth off, laid it over her, and put his headphones on her to block out the thunder. He pulled her close to him and whispered, "Sorry. I'm sorry for running off and leaving you." Haruhi closed her eyes and leaned against him. "And for the things I said about your friend Arai. I'm so sorry."

"Thanks Hikaru, I forgive you." She replied.

He gasped, before closing his eyes and leaning against her, "I'm sorry."

After a few minutes, Hikaru called to update Tamaki. After the conversation, Tamaki reached out to Kyoya to check on them.

"Hikaru called and we're going to go pick up him and Haruhi, do you want us to pick you guys up too?"Tamaki asked. Kyoya was glad he had his phone on vibrate; Yuki had fallen asleep against him.

"I have a cottage close by here, I've already got a cab, and I'm taking her home with me. I'll bring her back to the bed and breakfast when she's less upset."

"Alright."Tamaki sighed and hung up. Kyoya put his phone back in his pocket. The cab pulled up in front of the house. Kyoya paid the driver, got out and then got her out. The driver pulled away. Kyoya took Yuki inside.
