Chapter Seventy-Four: White Out

Hikaru's POV

Hikaru's Dream

Two brothers, twins, one with the powers of ice and snow; both very young when our story begins…

"Hikaru" One of the twins tried to wake the other. He climbed on top of the other twin. "Hikaru." He shook him, "Wake up, Hikaru."

"Kaoru, go back to sleep." Hikaru groaned tiredly.

Kaoru laid on top of him, "The sky's awake, so I'm awake, so we have to play."

"Go play by yourself." Hikaru shoved Kaoru off.

Kaoru climbed back on top of him, "Do you wanna build a snowman?"

Hikaru opened his eyes and smiled back at Kaoru; they ran down the stairs to the great hall and closed the doors behind them.

"Do the magic!" Kaoru exclaimed. Hikaru smiled and created a snowball in midair.

"Ready?" He asked. Kaoru nodded. Hikaru lifted the snowball in the air and it started to snow.

"This is amazing!" Kaoru exclaimed and they started to play.

"Watch this!" Hikaru smiled and put a layer of ice onto the floor.

They built snowmen; ice skated, sledded down hills of snow, built snow forts. After they started building the snow forts, Kaoru would jump from one to the other as Hikaru built them. They had done this all the time. They didn't see anything dangerous about any of it, but Kaoru was jumping on to the forts too fast. He would jump as Hikaru was making them.

"Slow down!" Hikaru warned. As he went to build another fort to catch Kaoru, he slipped and fell, his aim missed and accidentally hit Kaoru in the head. He fell into a snow bank unconscious. "Kaoru!" Hikaru ran to him and pulled him into his lap and called for their parents. "You're okay, Kaoru, I've got you." Hikaru told him.

"Hikaru, what have you done?" His father asked as he and their mother ran towards them.

"It was an accident." Hikaru replied, before looking down at Kaoru, whispering, "I'm sorry Kaoru."

Their mother picked up Kaoru and held him to her, "He's ice cold."

"I know where to take him." Their father told her and they rushed them out of the castle and to the trolls.

"Please! We need your help." The father called out to the trolls, "My son, please."

The trolls slowly came out of hiding and surrounded them.

"You're majesty." The leader bowed, and asked about Hikaru, "Born with the power or cursed?"

"Born and getting stronger." Their father replied.

The leader nodded and motioned their mother to come forward with Kaoru, "You're lucky it was only his head. The head can be persuaded, the heart not so much. It would be best if we remove all magic and memories of magic from his memory to be safe." The leader healed him. "He'll be fine."

"He won't remember I have powers?" Hikaru asked.

"It's for the best." Their father replied.

"Hikaru, your power will only grow stronger." The troll leader told him, "There is great beauty in it but also great danger. You have to learn to control it; fear will be your enemy."

When they went back to the castle, they locked the gates, moved Hikaru out of his and Kaoru's room, and made sure they stayed separate. For Kaoru's safety, the parents thought it would be best if Hikaru's contact with Kaoru was limited, although most of Hikaru's contact with people, in general, was limited at best. For years that was the norm. On a trip to a visiting country, their parents died, Hikaru and Kaoru were left on their own. Because Hikaru was the older twin, he was the one who was to ascend to the throne when the time came.

When Hikaru and Kaoru came of age, the gates were opened once again for Hikaru's coronation. Kaoru was excited to see and meet the people; there were so many possibilities that awaited him. Hikaru dreaded the idea of opening the gates; there were too many things that could go wrong.

"It's only for one day, then the gates will be shut for good." Hikaru told himself as he got dressed. After he finished, he took off his gloves and picked up a candlestick and a small globe to practice for the ceremony, they both iced over. He sighed and put them down. "Put on a show, make one wrong move and everyone will know." He reminded himself, putting his gloves back on, "It's only for today." He left his room, and told the servants outside of his bedroom, "Tell the guards to open up the gates!" He went out to the balcony and watched the people flow in.

The coronation went well. Hikaru managed to hold on to the scepter and the orb without completely freezing them. He did have to be reminded to take off his gloves though.

The party was entertaining. Hikaru stood and watched the crowd dance. He didn't dance, him and people, they just didn't mix. Kaoru stood next to him, not really knowing what to do.

"Hey." Hikaru said to him.

"Hey? Hey me?" Kaoru asked surprised, "Oh, um, hey."

"You look handsome." Hikaru complimented.

"You look handsomer, I mean more handsome, I mean-"

"Thank you." Hikaru nodded, before looking out to the crowd, "So this is what a party looks like."

"It's warmer than I thought." Kaoru commented.

"What is that amazing smell?" Hikaru asked.

"Chocolate." They both smiled and laughed.

"You should go dance." Hikaru suggested, "Enjoy the party."

Kaoru smiled at him and went to go dance as Hikaru greeted the different people who came up and introduced themselves to him. Kaoru came back tired from the several girls he danced with.

"This is so nice." Kaoru told him, "I wish it could be like this all the time."

"Me too." Hikaru replied, before looking away, "But it can't."

"Why not?" Kaoru asked, "I mean-"

Hikaru turned away from him, "It just can't."

"Excuse me for a moment." Kaoru replied, before walking away sadly.

When Kaoru came back, he did with a girl at his side.

"Hikaru!" He called to him to get his attention, "I mean King Hikaru." He corrected himself. Hikaru turned to face him. "May I present Princess Renge."

"You're majesty." She bowed.

"We'd like your blessing of our marriage." Renge and Kaoru said together. Hikaru looked at them as if they were crazy for a moment before putting on a stoic expression.

"I'm sorry I'm confused." Hikaru told him.

"We haven't worked out all the details yet." Kaoru replied, "We'll need at least a few days to plan out the ceremony, and wait, would we live here?"

"Here?" Hikaru asked him

"Absolutely!" Renge replied happily.

"And we could invite your family to stay with us." Kaoru told her as Hikaru started to object. They looked at him confused.

"Wait a minute, slow down, no one's family is coming cause no one's getting married." Hikaru told them.

"Wait what?" Kaoru asked confused.

"Kaoru, can I talk to you for a second alone?" Hikaru asked him.

Kaoru shook his head, "No, anything you have to say to me can be said in front of Renge."

"Okay, fine, you can't marry someone you just met." Hikaru stated.

"You can if it's true love." Kaoru replied.

"Kaoru, what do you know about true love?"

"More than you, all you know is to shut people out." Kaoru retorted.

"You asked for my blessing and my answer is no." Hikaru told him, "Now excuse me." He started to walk away. Renge started to say something, but Hikaru cut him off, "I think you should go." He looked to one of the guards, "The party's over, close the gates."

"What?" Kaoru asked, "Hikaru, no wait!" Kaoru caught his glove and pulled it off.

"Give me back my glove."

"Hikaru, please!" Kaoru begged, "I can't live like this anymore."

"Then leave." Hikaru turned and started to walk away.

"What did I ever do to you?" Kaoru asked him.

"Enough, Kaoru." Hikaru replied.

"No, why?" Kaoru demanded, "Why do you shut me out? Why do you shut the world out? What are you so afraid of?"

"I said enough!" Hikaru yelled at him, letting out a burst of jagged ice. The people backed away in fear. Hikaru's fear of them matched their's of him, if not surpassed.

"Hikaru…" Kaoru gasped.

Hikaru ran out of the castle terrified, only to be greeted by the villagers outside. He ran past them, only to almost run into a mother and her child.

"Your Majesty, are you alright?" She asked. He backed away from her and into a fountain, which he completely iced over.

"There he is!" One of the dignitaries from another country cried, "Stop him!"

"Just stay away from me." Hikaru told him.

"Cease him!"

"Stay away!" Hikaru yelled, letting his emotions take him over slightly, and blasting him with ice.

"Monster!" The dignitary cried, "Monster!"

Hikaru looked down at his hand and then at the people. He ran away in fear of what they'd do to him.

"Hikaru!" Kaoru called, running after him, with Renge chasing after him, "Hikaru!"

Hikaru looked back at him.

"Wait!" Kaoru called to him, "Please!"

Hikaru looked down and noticed when he had stepped near the lake the water froze. He looked back to Kaoru once more and then looked ahead and ran like hell, freezing the fjord over causing it to snow. Hikaru stopped when he reached the mountains.

"Shit!" He cursed, "I can't go back now, they all know! I tried to keep it in, I couldn't." He sighed, "Well they know now, not point in holding it back anymore." He smirked to himself, "Let's see what I can do." He built a snowman by waving his hand, and kept walking. "You know what? What's the point in caring anymore? They're going to think what they want to, right?" He took off his cape, "Plus cold doesn't bother me anyway."

Hikaru ran forward excitedly and stopped to create a staircase out of snow to connect the mountain he was on with the mountain in front of him. He ran up the staircase, turning it to ice as he went. He iced over the base of the mountain, raised the floor and created an ice castle around him. He tossed away his crown and messed up his hair, icing bits of it to spike it and have it stand on end. He iced his suit and went outside on the balcony to look at the view he had. The dawn had come and the snow was blowing.

"Let the storm rage on." He smirked, "Cold never bothered me anyway." He smirked and went inside, slamming the doors behind him.

Meanwhile, Kaoru was looking for Hikaru. He had searched all night and so far had nothing.

"Hikaru!" Kaoru called for him, "Hikaru, please it's me Kaoru, your brother who didn't mean to make you freeze the summer. I'm sorry, it's all my fault, of course none of it would have happened if you would have just told me." He said, before his horse got spooked, throwing him off, and then running away. "That's just great." He sighed, standing and brushing himself off. He started walking in the direction he was headed in before his horse took off.

"Snow, it had to be snow." He groaned. He'd been walking all day in the cold and snowy weather. "He couldn't have had tropical magic that covered the fjords in white sand and warm-" He stopped when he saw smoke, "Fire!" He smiled, before slipping down a hill and into a stream, losing his cape in the process. "Cold." He stood and repeated the word as he headed towards the house in front of him. He brushed off the snow and read the sign on the door, "Nekozawa Trading Post and Sauna" He shrugged, "Seems legit." He went inside.

"Big summer blowout." Nekozawa told him when he came in.

"Great, but for now I'm looking for winter clothes and snow boots" Kaoru replied.

"Winter department's over there." Nekozawa replied, pointing to the chair with a pair of boots and some clothes sitting on top of it.

"Quite the selection you have there." Kaoru nodded, going over to the winter department, "I was wondering have you happened to see another dude, the King maybe, I don't know, come by here." He picked up the clothes and the boots.

"The only one crazy enough to be out in that storm is you." Nekozawa replied. The door opened, a girl, with black hair in pigtails, walked in, covered head to toe in snow. "Well, you and that girl." He added before telling the girl, "Big summer blowout."

The girl walked over to them, "Carrots."

"Huh?" Kaoru replied confused.

"Carrots…"She repeated, "Behind you."

"Oh right." He moved out of the way, "Sorry."

The girl grabbed the carrots and a couple of other things from the winter department.

"Real howler in July, huh?" Nekozawa asked her.

"It's coming from the north mountain." She replied.

"That'll be forty." Nekozawa informed her.

"Forty?" The girl questioned, "No, ten."

"Those items are from our winter department, and due to the current weather predicament, supply and demand has gone up, causing a bit of a problem due to the season we're in."

"You wanna talk about a supply and demand problem?" The girl asked him, "I sell ice for a living."

"That's a really rough business to be in right now." Kaoru commented. The girl glared. "I mean that is really-" Kaoru kept going until he saw the look on her face, "That's really unfortunate."

"Still forty, but I'll throw in a visit to the sauna." Nekozawa told her.

"Ten's all I got." The girl replied, "Help me out."

"That'll get you this and no more." Nekozawa replied.

"Hey, can you tell me what was happening on the north mountain, did it seem magical at all?" Kaoru asked the girl.

The girl took off her snow mask, "Yes, now if you excuse me, I have to deal with this crook."

"What did you call me?" Nekozawa stood and threw her out.

"I'd like to buy all of these." Kaoru told him.

"Okay." Nekozawa nodded.

Kaoru bought the items, changed into the winter apparel and went to go find the girl from before. If he was going to find Hikaru, the girl would probably be helpful. Finding her wasn't that hard either; she had made camp in Nekozawa's shed with a friend. Kaoru opened the door to the shed, both of the girls jumped.

"Oh, it's just you." The girl he had met earlier sighed in relief that it wasn't Nekozawa.

"You know him?" The other girl asked.

"She was in the shop when I tried to buy the stuff we needed." She replied, before asking Kaoru, "What do you want?"

"I want you to take me up the north mountain." Kaoru replied.

The girl laid back, "I don't take people places."

"Let me rephrase that." Kaoru threw the bag of stuff he had bought for her at her, "You're taking me up the north mountain." The girl opened the bag and took out the stuff and then looked to him. He sighed, "Look I know how to stop this winter."

The girl sighed, "We leave at dawn and you forgot the carrots."

Kaoru threw them at her head, "We leave now. Right now." He walked out of the shed and took a deep breath. The girl and her friend looked at each other and followed him out. They lead him to their sled and reindeer, and they were off.

"Hold on, we like to go fast." The girl told him.

"You like to go fast; I just hope we don't die when you do." Her friend corrected, hanging on for dear life.

"It's okay, I like fast." Kaoru replied, putting his feet up.

"What were you raised in a barn?" The girl asked him, shoving his feet down.

"No, I was raised in a castle." He replied.

"Then you should know better." She rolled her eyes, "So what made the King go all ice crazy?"

"Oh, well it was all my fault, I got engaged, but then he freaked out because I'd only just met her, you know, that day and he said he wouldn't bless the marriage and-"

The girl and her friend looked at him oddly.

"You met her that day?" The friend asked him.

"And you asked her to marry you?" The girl asked.

"Anyway, I got mad and then he got mad and he tried to walk away, and I grabbed his glove-" Kaoru continued, the girl cut him off.

"Hang on, you mean to tell me you got engaged to someone you just met that day?"

"Yeah." Kaoru nodded, "Pay attention, now the thing is he wore the gloves all the time, I just thought he was a germaphobe, so-"

"Didn't your parents ever warn you about strangers?" The girl asked him.

Kaoru scooted away from her slightly, "Yes, they did, but Renge's not a stranger, she's a princess."

"Oh yeah?" The girl asked, "What's her last name?"

"Of the southern isles." Kaoru answered.

"What's her favorite food?" She asked.

"Sandwiches."

"Best friend's name?"

"Probably Chloe."

"Eye color?"

"Dreamy."

"Foot size?"

"Foot size doesn't matter."

"Have you had a meal with her yet?" The girl asked him, "What if you don't like the way she eats? What if you don't like the way she bites her nails or shrieks over little things that you find unappealing?"

"Excuse me, mam, she is a princess." He retorted.

"Don't call me mam; I'm probably younger than you are." She replied, "I have a name, it's Kimiko, and the one in the back hanging on for dear life is Haruhi."

"Okay Kimiko, Renge's a princess she doesn't do any of those things."

"All women have their bad habits." Kimiko replied.

"Look, it doesn't matter." Kaoru replied, "It's true love."

"Doesn't sound like true love." Kimiko replied.

"What are you, a love expert?" He asked her.

"No, but I have friends who are." Kimiko replied.

"You two have friends?" He scoffed.

"Yes." They replied.

"And they're love experts?"

"Yes." They replied.

"I'm not buying it." He replied.

"Stop talking." Kimiko told him.

"No, no, no-" Kaoru started, Kimiko covered his mouth. Kaoru pulled her hand off and was about to say something when she shushed him, taking the lantern from the front of the sled and looking around.

"Sven, go." She told the reindeer, it did as it was told.

"What are they?" Kaoru asked them.

"Wolves." Haruhi replied.

"Wolves?" He asked.

"You know, big, scary dog-like creatures with sharp, pointy teeth?" Kimi replied.

"What do we do?" Kaoru asked them.

"Leave it to us." Kimi replied, "We got this." She lit a torch and handed it to Haruhi, "Don't fall off and don't get eaten."

"That's helpful." Haruhi rolled her eyes.

"But I want to help." Kaoru objected.

"No." Kimi objected.

"Why not?"

"Because I don't trust your judgement." Kimi replied.

"Excuse me?" Kaoru asked.

"What kind of guy marries a woman he just met?" Kimi asked, kicking a wolf off, "Haruhi, a little help here?"

"Right." She replied remembering she still had the torch. She started to set some of the supplies on fire and throw them at the wolves.

"It's true love!" Kaoru replied to Kimi, almost walking her in the head with her mandele, but hitting a wolf instead. Kimi was pulled off the sled by a wolf, "Kumiko!"

"It's Kimiko!" She yelled at him as she held on to the rope that was attached to the sled. A wolf bit her in the leg and she yelped in pain, another one bit her in the thigh.

"Duck!" Haruhi yelled at her as Kaoru threw a lit rolled up blanket at wolf that was directly behind her.

"You almost set me on fire!" Kimiko yelled at him as Harhi pulled her up.

"But I didn't!" Kaoru yelled back. He pulled them up to the front of the sled. "Get ready to jump, Sven!"

"You don't tell him what to do, I do!" Kimiko told him, "Haruhi, Sven."

Haruhi jumped on to Sven.

"Get ready to jump." Kimiko told Kaoru, before cutting Sven's attachments to the sled, "Jump Sven!"

Sven jumped on to the next bank, Kaoru and Kimiko remained on the sled as long as they could, before jumping onto the bank. Kaoru made it safely on the bank, Kimiko managed to hang onto the ledge.

Kimiko looked down at her sled, "And to think, I just finished paying off the damn thing." She started to slip, "Uh-oh…" She tried to pull herself up, but kept slipping. Her ice pick and a rope were thrown at her.

"Grab on." Kaoru yelled to her. She did so, and he, Haruhi, and Sven pulled her up. They ran over to her, as the sled at the bottom of the mountain below them, "Whoa." Kaoru looked down at her, "I'll replace your guys' sled and everything in it and I understand if you don't want to help me anymore." He walked away.

Haruhi looked at him and then at Kimiko, "So?"

"Of course, I don't want to help him anymore." Kimiko replied, "In fact, this whole thing has ruined me from helping anyone ever again."

"He'll die on his own." Haruhi told her.

"I can live with that." Kimiko replied.

"But we won't get our new sled if he's dead." Haruhi pointed out.

"Sometimes I really don't like you." Kimiko told her, before yelling to Kaoru, "Wait up, we're coming!"

Haruhi grabbed Sven and they went over to him. They continued on to the north mountain.

"I never knew winter could be so beautiful." Kaoru commented when they came across a frozen lake with a waterfall and forest around it.

"Yeah, it really is beautiful, isn't it?" They heard someone reply, "But it's so white, you know? How bout a little color? Maybe some crimson or chartreuse? How about yellow? Wait not yellow, yellow and snow don't mix. Complete no go. How about pink? I like pink! Pink would be a good color for here." The person asked, walking towards them. Kaoru, Kimiko, and Haruhi look down. It was a little, walking, talking snowman. "Am I right?"

Kaoru freaked and kicked his head off. Kimiko caught the head.

"Hi." The snowman greeted him.

"You're creepy." Kimiko stated tossing the head to Kaoru.

"I don't want it." Kaoru replied, tossing the head back to her. She tossed it to Haruhi, who tossed it back to her.

"You think I want it?" Haruhi asked her.

"Please don't drop me." The snowman told them as Kimiko threw his head to Kaoru, "I think we got off to a bad start."

Kaoru tossed the snowman's head back onto its body. The snowman got up; its head was upside down.

"Wait what am I looking at?" The snowman asked, "Why are you hanging off the world like a bat?"

"Wait a second." Kaoru told him and put head the way it should be.

"Now I'm perfect!" The snowman exclaimed.

"Almost." Kaoru replied and shoved a carrot through his head, so he would have a nose.

"I love it!" The snowman exclaimed, "I've always wanted a nose." He smiled, "Let's start over. Hi everyone, I'm Hunny and I like warm hugs."

"I'm Kaoru." Kaoru introduced himself.

"And who's the dark haired one?"

"Kimiko."

"And who's the funny looking donkey over there?" Hunny asked.

"Sven." Kaoru replied.

"And the reindeer?" Hunny asked.

"Sven." Kaoru repeated.

"Oh, okay." Hunny nodded, "That makes things easier for me."

Sven tried to bite his nose.

"I like you too." Hunny told him.

"Hunny, did Hikaru build you?" Kaoru asked him.

"Yeah." Hunny nodded.

"And you're alive?" Kaoru asked.

"I believe so." Hunny replied.

"Do you know where he is?" Kaoru asked.

"Yeah, why?" Hunny replied as Haruhi took his wooden arm curiously.

"Do you think you could take us to him?" Kaoru asked.

"How does this work?" Haruhi asked before getting smacked with the arm, "Ow."

Hunny took his arm out of Haruhi's hands, "Stop it Sven, trying to focus here." He looked back at Kaoru, "Yeah, why?"

"I'll tell you why." Kimiko told him, Hunny turned around to face her, "We need Hikaru to bring back summer."

"Summer?" Hunny asked, "I don't know why, but I've always loved the idea of summer, and sun, and all things hot."

"Really?" Kimiko smirked, "I'm guessing you don't have much experience with heat."

"Nope." Hunny shook his head, "But sometimes I like to imagine what it's like when summer does come. I don't know what snow does when it's hot, but I can see myself with a drink in my hand with my snow up against the burning sand, getting a gorgeous tan in summer. Imagine how much cooler I'll be in summer!" He smiled widely, "Winter's a good time to stay in and cuddle, but put me in summer and I'll be a happy snowman!" He looked to the four of them, "The sky'll be blue and you guys'll be there too when I finally do what frozen things do in summer."

"I'm gonna tell him." Haruhi commented.

"Don't you dare." Kaoru replied.

"Yeah, just leave him be." Kimiko told him.

"C'mon!" Hunny told him going forward, "Hikaru's this way. Let's go bring back summer!"

Kimiko, Kaoru and Sven followed Hunny to find Hikaru.

"Somebody's gotta tell him…" Haruhi said before following after them. They managed to find their way to the ice castle.

When they came to the doors, Kaoru stopped.

"Why isn't he knocking?" Hunny asked the others, "Do you think she knows how to knock?"

Kaoru knocked on the door and it opened.

"That's never happened before." Kaoru said in surprise, he turned around to the girls, "You guys should probably wait out here."

"What?" Kimiko asked.

"Last time I introduced him to a girl, she froze everything." He shrugged.

"But it's a palace made of ice!" Kimiko objected.

"Ice is our life!" Haruhi agreed.

"Bye Kimiko." Hunny waved, "Bye Sven."

"You too, Hunny." Kaoru stopped him, "Just give us a minute." He went inside and the others sat down on the stairs. The doors shut behind Kaoru. He looked around in amazement, it was like nothing he had ever seen or even imagined. "Hikaru?" Kaoru called for him, "It's me, Kaoru." He slipped on the ice catching himself before he fell.

"Kaoru." Hikaru said in surprise. He didn't expect Kaoru to come after him.

"Whoa, Hikaru, you look different." Kaoru commented, surprised by his twin's appearance, "It's a good different and this place is amazing."

"Thank you." Hikaru replied, "I never knew what I was capable of."

"I'm sorry about what happened if I had known, I never would have done it." Kaoru told him, "I would have-"

"No, it's okay really." Hikaru interrupted him, "You don't have to apologize, you didn't know and you should probably go."

"But I just got here and I came all this way to talk to you." Kaoru replied, "I want to start over Hikaru, take you back."

"Back?" Hikaru replied, "No, I belong here, where I can't hurt anyone."

"Hikaru, we were so close, we could be like that again." Kaoru walked up the stairs.

"Go home, Kaoru." Hikaru turned away from him.

"Hikaru, we can fix this." Kaoru chased after him, "We can head down together and fix everything together."

"Kaoru, go back home." Hikaru replied, "I know you mean well, but it's best if I am left alone."

"You need to go back." Kaoru told him, "The kingdom's frozen over, you kind of set off an eternal winter everywhere."

"Everywhere?"

"It's okay, you can just unfreeze it."

"I don't know how."

"Sure, you can." Kaoru replied, "I'm sure if you try, you can find a way to figure it out."

Hikaru started to panic. He didn't mean to freeze everything and now he had no way to undo it and the whole point of this was to keep Kaoru safe. He had failed and had no way of fixing any of it. Kaoru tried to calm him down, but Hikaru's panic caused a blizzard in the room.

"Hikaru, we can fix this!" Kaoru called to him, "You can unfreeze everything if you figure out how."

"I can't!" He yelled at him, sending an icy blast to Kaoru's heart accidentally. Kaoru slowly fell to the ground in pain. When Hikaru saw him, he gasped shocked, realizing he had hit him. Kimiko, Haruhi, and Hunny rushed to him.

"Are you okay?" Kimiko asked him.

"I'm okay." Kaoru said as they helped him stand, "I'm fine."

"Who are they?" Hikaru asked, "Nevermind, it doesn't matter, you have to go."

"No." Kaoru objected, "I know we can figure this out together."

"How?" Hikaru asked him, "What power do you have to stop this? To stop me?"

"Kaoru, I think we should go." Haruhi told him.

"No, I'm not leaving without him." Kaoru told her, before looking back to Hikaru, "I'm not leaving without you, Hikaru."

"Yes, you are." Hikaru replied and conjured a monstrous snowman to throw them out of the castle. The gigantic snowman threw them all out.

"It is not nice to throw people!" Kimiko yelled at the snowman, grabbing a snowball.

"Calm down feisty pants." Kaoru pulled her back.

"Don't do anything stupid, Kimi." Haruhi replied. Kaoru let her go.

"I'm cool, I'm fine." Kimiko replied, before turning around and throwing the snowball at him.

"See! Now you've made him mad!" Haruhi exclaimed.

"You guys run, I'll distract him" Hunny told them.

They ran. The snowman chased after them. Kaoru managed to wack him with a tree to delay him a bit before they reached the cliff.

"It's a hundred foot drop." Kaoru said, looking down.

"Two hundred actually." Kimiko corrected, she tied the rope around his waist and hers. Haruhi and Sven had separated from them and were going to find a way down on their own.

"What are you doing?" Kaoru asked her.

"Building a snow anchor." She replied.

"Okay." Kaoru nodded, "What if we fall?"

"There's at least twenty feet of fresh powder down there, it'll be like landing on a pillow." Kimiko replied, "I hope." She attached the rope to the snow anchor. "Okay on three."

Before she was finished counting off, a tree was thrown at them, missing by a couple of feet.

"Three!" Kaoru jumped off the cliff, pulling Kimiko with him. Luckily, the snow anchor caught them.

"Well, that happened." Kimiko commented.

The snowman pulled them up. "Don't come back!"

"We won't." Kaoru replied, cutting them down. They fell to the snow bank below.

"Hey, you were right." Kaoru said when they landed, "Just like a pillow." He tried to get up but he was stuck.

"Here." Kimiko helped him up, "You okay?"

"Yeah." He nodded, "Thanks."

"So now what?" She asked them as the others made it down.

"Now what?" He asked, and then he realized he had no plan now, he panicked, "Now what? What am I gonna do? He threw me out. I can't go back with the weather like this. And then there's your ice business."

"Don't worry about the ice business." She replied, "Haruhi and I'll figure it out." She saw his hair starting to change color. "You should worry about your hair. It's turning white."

"What?" He looked up and pulled his bangs down a bit, so he could see them. His hair was turning white.

"It's because he struck you." Kimiko guessed.

"Does it look bad?" Kaoru asked.

"No." Haruhi hesitated.

"You hesitated." Hunny pointed out.

"It's different, it doesn't look bad." Kimiko told him, "Kaoru, you need help, c'mon."

"Where are we going?" Hunny asked.

"To see friends of mine and Haruhi's." Kimiko replied.

"The love experts?" Kaoru replied.

"Yeah." She nodded, "Don't worry; they'll be able to fix this."

"How do you know?" Kaoru asked.

"We've seen them do it before." Haruhi answered.

"I like to consider myself a love expert." Hunny told Kaoru.

Meanwhile, Hikaru paced back and forth in his ice castle.

"Get it together." He told himself, "Control it!" He yelled, before repeating, "Don't feel". Jagged ice built around him on the walls and pillars. "Oh, this isn't good."

When Kaoru, Kimiko, and the rest of the group got to Kimiko and Haruhi's friends, Kimiko warned Kaoru about their friends.

"So about our friends, well actually they're more like family, when we were kids, it was just the three of us until they took us in."

"They did?" Kaoru asked.

"Yeah." She nodded, "I don't wanna scare you, but they can be kind of, okay maybe very, inappropriate and kind of loud. They're also stubborn and a little overbearing, but you'll get it, I mean-"

"Kimiko," Kaoru put a hand on her shoulder, "They sound nice."

"Okay then." Kimiko nodded and walked towards the rocks, "Meet our family." She said before she and Haruhi started to greet the rocks.

"They're rocks." Kaoru commented surprised.

"They're crazy." Hunny commented about Kimiko and Haruhi, "I'll distract them while you run." He told him, before greeting the rocks.

"Okay, this was uh, weird and interesting, I'm gonna go now." Kaoru told Kimiko and Haruhi. He turned around and started to go.

"No, Kaoru, wait." Kimiko said to him.

The rocks started to rumble and turn into trolls.

"Kimiko's home!" One of the female trolls exclaimed.

"So is my Haruhi!" One of the male trolls exclaimed.

"Haruhi?" Hunny asked. One of the other female trolls nodded.

All of the trolls gathered around them and inspected them, until they noticed Kaoru.

"It's great to see you all, but where's Kyoya?"

"Sleeping." The first female troll to speak replied, "You know how he is."

"Trolls…" Kaoru smiled, "They're trolls." He couldn't believe it. He didn't think they existed, but here they were right in front of him. It was really remarkable.

"Hey, they've brought a boy home!" Another female troll exclaimed.

"My Haruhi?!" The first male troll said, "Brought a boy home?! Daddy doesn't like that! Daddy doesn't like it at all!"

"He could be with Kimi, moron." The first female troll retorted, "Not everything's about Haruhi."

"Let's stick to the brighter side of things," A different female troll told the two, "They've brought a boy."

"Yeah." A taller male troll agreed.

"A boy!" All of the trolls exclaimed. The trolls carried him over to the two girls.

"What's going on?" He asked Kimiko.

"Just roll with it." Kimiko replied, "That's all you really can do. Explanations don't really make sense when it comes to them."

The trolls started to inspect him.

"He'll do nicely for one of the girls." One of the female trolls told one of the males. All three of them objected.

"That's not why he was brought here." Haruhi told him.

"Yeah, um we're not-" Kimiko started.

"It's not like that." Kaoru told them.

"He's engaged to someone else, so it really doesn't matter either way." Kimiko told them.

"We need to see Kyoya." Haruhi told them.

"I'll get him." The first female troll said and turned to go, but Kyoya was already walking towards them.

"No need, I sensed something was off." Kyoya told her, before looking to Kimiko and Haruhi, "Bring him here." He told them. They went over to him. "Kaoru, your life is in danger. You have ice in your heart placed by your brother. If it's not removed, the solid ice will spread and you will freeze forever."

"What?" Kaoru asked, "No."

"You can remove it, Kyoya, can't you?" Kimiko asked.

Kyoya shook his head, "Only an act of true love can thaw a frozen heart."

Kaoru fell back into Kimiko, getting colder and his hair getting whiter.

"I'd better take you back to Renge." Kimiko told Kaoru, "Haruhi, you stay here."

"Got it." Haruhi nodded. Kimiko, Hunny, and Kaoru got on Sven and went back to the kingdom.

Meanwhile, Princess Renge and several others had found King Hikaru's ice castle. Hikaru locked the doors and the giant snowman fought as many of them as he could. Two soldiers slipped past the snowman. Hikaru ran up to the tower, the soldiers chased after him.

"We got him." One of them said when they reached him. Both pointing their crossbows at him.

"Hey man, I haven't done anything to you." Hikaru held up his hands, "Put it down."

One of the soldiers fired at him. A wall of ice came up and caught it instead of having it hit him.

"This side." The other soldier told the first one. They moved to Hikaru's other side.

"Stay away." Hikaru blasted ice towards them. They dodged the ice and kept trying to fire at him. Every time they did, Hikaru would fight back with his powers, until he had a soldier on either side of him. He looked from one to the other. He stuck one of them up on the wall with jagged ice picks, with one of the picks coming dangerously close to the solider's throat, and the other, Hikaru had an ice wall about to push him through the doors and off the balcony.

"King Hikaru!" Renge called to him to get his attention, "Don't be the monster they fear you are."

Hikaru stopped and looked at Renge. The soldier on the wall took the opportunity to shoot Hikaru. Renge moved his aim to the ice chandelier over Hikaru; he tried to move out of the way, but fell and was knocked out.

Hikaru awoke later in a cell.

"How did I get here?" He asked himself getting up. He tried to go to the window to see exactly where he was, but his hands were gloved in iron and chained to the floor. "You've gotta be kidding me." He moved around the chains and looked outside, he was back in the kingdom and everything was completely frozen over and getting even colder and worse by the second. "What have I done?"

The cell door opened, he looked back to see who came in. It was Renge.

"Why did you bring me here?" Hikaru demanded.

"I couldn't just let them kill you." Renge replied.

"I'm a danger to the kingdom and everyone in it."

"And that's why you have your new fancy gloves."

"Get Kaoru."

"He hasn't returned." Renge replied. Hikaru looked back at the window concerned. "If you would just stop the winter, bring back summer, please."

"I can't." Hikaru replied, "You have to tell them to let me go."

"I'll do what I can." Renge nodded and left.

"What did I do?" Hikaru sighed, "I've frozen out the only friend I'll ever know. There's no way I can win, but I wish that I had been there for him long ago." He looked down and noticed the iron gloves were turning to ice.

Meanwhile, Kimiko had just gotten Kaoru back to the castle. She helped him off Sven and to the guards.

"Are you gonna be okay?" Kaoru asked her.

"Don't worry about me." Kimiko smiled at him. The servants rushed to Kaoru and brought him inside the gates. "Get him warm and find Princess Renge immediately."

"We will." The male servant told him, "Thank you."

"Make sure he's safe!" She told them. Kaoru looked back at her as they closed the doors. Kimiko sighed and looked down, "C'mon Sven, it's time to go home." She turned away from the doors and started to walk away.

Kaoru was brought to Renge. She rushed to him.

"Kaoru." She said in relief.

"Renge, you have to kiss me." He told her.

"What?" She asked him.

"Now."

"Slow down." She told him as the servants and dignitaries left. "What happened out there?"

"Hikaru struck me with his powers."

"I thought you said he'd never hurt you."

"It was an accident. He was upset and panicking and it burst out." He replied, before he felt a surge of cold and pain rush through him. Renge helped him to the couch by the fire. "He froze my heart and only an act of true love can save me."

"True love's kiss." Renge replied in understanding, before going to kiss him, stopping short, "Oh Kaoru, if only there was someone out there who loved you."

"You said you did."

"I say a lot of things." She smirked before closing the curtains on the window, "As thirteen in line in my own kingdom, I didn't have a chance. I knew I'd have to marry into the throne somewhere."

"What are you talking about?"

"As heir, Hikaru was preferable, of course, but no one was getting anywhere with him, but you, you were so desperate for love, you were willing to marry me just like that." She poured water onto the fire, putting it out, "I figured after we married, I'd have to stage a little accident for Hikaru."

"Renge, stop." Kaoru pleaded, trying to get up, but fell onto the floor, "Don't do this."

"But then he doomed himself and you were dumb enough to go after him." Renge shook her head, "All that's left now is to kill Hikaru and bring back summer."

"You'll be stopped." Kaoru told her, pushing himself up, "You're no match for Hikaru."

"No, you're no match for Hikaru." She retorted, "I, on the other hand, am the heroine who's going to save this kingdom from its frozen destruction."

"Hikaru will stop you." Kaoru told him, "You won't get away with this."

"Oh," She smiled at him, opening the door, "I already have." She shut the door and locked it behind her. He tried to get to the door and call for help, he managed to get to the door, but when he called for help, no one could hear him, his voice was too quiet.

"I can't believe I was so reckless that I couldn't see, so desperate to be loved that I only ever thought of me. I wish I saw things clearly, I guess I'm just not the sort. Now all I know is life's too short" He closed his eyes and rested his head on his knees.

Meanwhile, Hikaru had managed to ice the room over and break himself out of the iron gloves and the cell. By the time Renge and the guards had gotten to the cell, he was gone.

"He can't be too far." She told the guards, before going after him angrily.

Meanwhile, Kimiko had managed to get up the mount towards her home, but was stopped by Sven.

"No, Sven, we're not going back." She told him, "He's with his true love."

A cold harsh wind blew towards them. Kimiko looked down towards the kingdom to see a huge blizzard forming over it.

"That's not good." Kimiko commented, and then her eyes widened in realization, "Kaoru!" She ran back down the mountain. Sven chased after her, when he caught up with her, she hopped on him and they rode back towards the kingdom to save Kaoru, who wasn't doing well.

Kaoru was lying on the floor, freezing to death. The room was getting colder and icing over by the second. The door opened and Hunny came in.

"Kaoru, you look terrible." Hunny told him, "Just one second, I can fix this." He went to the fire and started it.

"Hunny, no." Kaoru told him, "Get away from there."

"So this is heat." Hunny said in awe, "I love it." His hand caught on fire; he waved it out, "Don't touch it." He helped Kaoru to the fire. "So, where's Renge?"

"I was wrong about her." Kaoru replied, "She wasn't my true love. "

"But we ran all the way here." Hunny said sadly.

"Hunny, you can't stay here, you'll melt." Kaoru told him.

"I'm not leaving until we find another act of true love to save you." Hunny sat down next to him, "You have any ideas?"

"I don't even know what love is." Kaoru replied.

"That's okay." Hunny told him, "Love is putting someone else's needs before yours, like how Kimiko brought you to Renge and left you forever."

"Kimiko loves me?" Kaoru asked him confused.

"You really know nothing about love, do you?" Hunny asked him.

"Hunny, you're melting." Kaoru told him.

"Some people are worth melting for." Hunny replied, "But maybe not this minute." He added before the window blew open. "Don't worry, I got it." He rushed over to the window. "We're gonna get-" He started but then something caught his eye. "Wait, I'm getting something." He pulled off an icicle and bit of its point, turning it into a telescope, "It's Kimiko and Sven! They're coming back this way!" Hunny exclaimed.

"They are?" Kaoru replied hopefully, realizing his feelings for Kimiko.

"Yeah. She's really moving fast too." Hunny replied, andthen thought about the example he gave to Kaoru about love, "Huh, I guess I was wrong. I guess Kimiko doesn't love you enough to leave you behind."

"Help me up, Hunny." Kaoru told him, "I have to get to Kimiko."

"Why?" Hunny asked confused. Kaoru looked at him pointedly. "Oh, there's your act of true love! Kimiko!" Hunny helped him up and grabbed his hand as the room started to be self decorated with jagged icy spikes. "Time to run."

Hunny pulled Kaoru out of the room. Icicles surrounding them, they're only way out was through the window. As he literally froze to death, he tried to find his way to Kimiko, who had just managed to get on the fjord herself. She got off of Sven and looked for Kaoru, the blizzard made it rather difficult. Hikaru wasn't haven't much luck himself. The blizzard made it hard for him to find his way out. He was stuck on the fjord. Renge found him though.

"Hikaru, you can't run from this!" Renge called to him.

"Just take care of my brother." Hikaru told him, there wasn't much else he could say now.

"Your brother?" Renge asked, "He returned from the mountain weak and cold. He said that you froze his heart."

"No." Hikaru gasped.

"I tried to save him, but it was too late." She told him. His eyes widened. "His skin was ice, his hair turned white. Your brother is dead because of you."

"No…" Hikaru knelt down in sorrow and grief.

The blizzard stopped and the fjord was clear. Kaoru could see Kimiko coming towards him and he could see Renge with a sword about to slay Hikaru, who didn't see it coming at was almost practically frozen. If he had waited, Kimiko would have gotten to him and he would have been saved, but when he saw Hikaru, his only brother, his twin, about to be killed in cold blood, he couldn't let that happen, he rushed to Hikaru to save him, instead of saving himself, knowing he'd probably die. He ran in front of Hikaru and stopped Renge's sword as he completely turned to ice, freezing Renge's sword and breaking it in the process.

"Kaoru!" Hikaru cried, holding him. He was the only one who would be able to touch Kaoru, anyone else who would try to would be frozen to death. Hikaru, who was the only person who couldn't touch him or hold him before, was now the only one who could. "I'm so sorry, Kaoru. I'm so, so sorry." He cried.

Kaoru slowly unfroze.

"Kaoru?" Hikaru asked hopefully.

"Hikaru." Kaoru hugged him.

"You sacrificed yourself for me?" Hikary asked him amazed.

"I love you." Kaoru shrugged.

"An act of true love will thaw a frozen heart." Hunny smiled.

"Love will thaw." Hikaru said, thinking about the words, "Love." He realized how to bring back the summer and turn everything back to normal. He unfroze everything and brought everything back to normal.

"I knew you could do it." Kaoru smirked, "Now all you have to do is keep him from melting." He pointed to Hunny. Hikaru gave him his own little flurry, so he wouldn't melt, just as Renge climbed onto the ship. "I've got this." He told them and walked over to Renge.

"Kaoru?" Renge asked, "But he froze your heart."

"The only frozen heart around here is yours." Kaoru replied, pushing her off the ship. Kaoru went back to Hikaru and hugged him. Renge was eventually fished out of the water and sent home.

"C'mon, you have to see this!" Kaoru said, pulling Kimiko, who was blindfolded, through the crowd. "Okay, here we are." He pulled the blindfold off her. His surprise was a new sled and madele. Haruhi and Sven were all dressed up and standing by it.

"Are you serious?" Kimiko asked him.

"Yes!" Kaoru smiled, "And it's the latest model."

"No, I can't accept this." Kimiko replied.

"You have to." Kaoru replied, "King's orders. No take backs, no exchanges. He's named you and Haruhi the kingdom's official ice mistresses and deliverers."

"That's not a thing." Kimiko told him.

"Is now." Kaoru shrugged, "And it even has cup holders."

"Fancy." Kimiko nodded.

"Do you like it?" Kaoru asked her.

She hugged him, "I love it! I could kiss you!" She let go realizing what she said, "I mean I'd like to, I mean if you want to, I mean could we, may we, um-"

He kissed her cheek, "We may." He told her, before kissing her. They went back to join Hikaru.

"Are you ready?" He asked everyone. They cheered. He turned the inside of the castle gates into an ice rink and created a snow flurry. Kaoru skated toward him, stumbling slightly, Hikaru caught him.

"I like the open gates." Kaoru told him.

"We are never closing them again." Hikaru stated, smiling. He turned his brother's boots into ice skates.

"I don't skate." Kaoru told him.

Hikaru took his hands and pulled him, "C'mon, you can do it." They started to skate around the fountains.

End Dream

I shook my head, waking up, "I've been spending too much time around Hunny-Senpai."

"Go back to sleep." Kaoru groaned. I shook him, he looked up at me, "What?"

"Do me a favor."

"It's three in the morning, I'll do it tomorrow." Kaoru yawned.

"Never get involved with Renge."

"What?" He asked confused, "Why would I ever go out with Renge?"

"I don't know, just don't." I replied, "It won't turn out well. Trust me."

He looked at me like I had lost it, "I don't want Renge! I want Kimiko back!"

"Yeah, good luck with that." I nodded, "You really screwed that up."

He glared at me.

"I appreciate that you chose to help me, but I think there was probably another way to go about it." I sighed, "I like Kimi a lot. I think she's great and fits in with us, in our world. I know you care about her. I know you like her. I don't think you appreciated her as much as you should have. I didn't realize how much she could be till recently, but I don't think she ever knew how much you really liked her. I know I'm not the most mature or observant between the two of us, my moral compass doesn't point due north, but if I say something's there or something's wrong, something is."

Kaoru looked at me perplexed. I stared back at him.

"What do I do?" He asked, "I tried Yuki's ideas and they aren't working this time."

"Be you." I told him, "That's who she fell for. I know you did something stupid to help me, and I will help you as much as I can, but the best way for you to fix things is to show her how much you care for her in your own way."
