Chapter Eighty – Seven: Hooked on a Feeling
"Miss Suoh, this is Carmen Santiago." One of the office members introduced me to a 4'11, caramel skinned, brown eyed girl when I got to the office, "She's transferring into Class 2-A for the year. You are to show her around and get her situated. She is still learning Japanese."
'That's why I'm here.' I nodded.
"Mi español no es muy bueno, qué les hablas otros idiomas?" I asked Carmen.
(My Spanish isn't very good, do you speak any other languages?)
She nodded, "Hablo Inglés y alemán."
(I speak English and German.)
"Tal vez podríamos hablar en Inglés y vamos a trabajar en sus japonesa hasta que su cómodo?" I asked her.
(Maybe we could speak in English and we'll work on your Japanese until you're comfortable?)
"Me gustaria eso." She replied.
(I would like that.)
I showed her around the school, giving the whole tour in English. The last stop I left was showing her the Host Club. If she was going to be around me for a while, she would be around here quite a bit. My first job, though, is to introduce her to Kaoru, his English was flawless and he was in her class. Since he also was a native speaker, so all three of those things combined he'd make a better tutor than I would, but if she wanted to stay with me, I would tutor her of course. She would do better with someone in her class, who would be able to divide their full attention to her than me who would only be able to divide up free time. I told Isbel to sit down while I went to go talk to Kaoru.
"Who's she?" Kaoru asked confused.
"Carmen Santiago, she's here for the year in your class and her Japanese isn't very good, her English is though and since your English is flawless, I thought you might be able to help her out." I told him, "If things don't work out, I'll work with her in my free time, but I think it'd be more effective if you helped her."
"No one else can help but me?"
'Many could.' I thought before shaking my head, "No, you're the only person I can think of."
"Alright, I'll try." He agreed.
We went back to Carmen and I introduced her to Kaoru. When they started to talk, I left them be.
"Kaoru's got a vistor, who is not to be charged." I told Kyoya, sitting down next to him.
He looked up from his laptop, "Why?"
"Because she is in his class and he is teaching her Japanese."
"How-"
I cut him off, knowing what he was going to ask, "Transfer student, here for a year."
"Where is she from?"
"A lot of places." I replied blankly, she had spouted off so many it was sort of hard to pinpoint one particular place where she was from.
"Why Kaoru?"
"I don't know." I replied honestly, "He speaks English and Japanese, and they're in the same year."
Kimi's POV
"I know her."
I looked at Hikaru and then looked back at the girl, "Who is she?"
"Her mom collaborates with ours, I met them once a few years ago." Hikaru replied, "She was kind of boring, we didn't really have anything in common."
"Neither do you and Haruhi-"
"But that's different."
"How so?"
"Because Haruhi, much like yourself, sparks my curiosity with how different she is." Hikaru explained, "Carmen was too ordinary."
I nodded.
"We still on for that movie next week?"
"I don't see why not." I smiled, "While we're out, maybe we could get dinner as well."
"Yeah." He nodded.
Okay, dinner and a movie is usually a date. I knew that, but I've known Hikaru for a while. Although I would be open to dating Hikaru, I have more in common with him, I am not ready at the moment nor would I make the first move toward doing so.
Hikaru's POV
I stared at Kimi softly as she started talking about the movie we were going to see. She was so excited and had read so much about it. Thing was, I wasn't really interested in seeing the movie at first. The more she talked about it though, the more I wanted to see it. It wasn't a movie I would pick for myself, but she wanted to see it and I wanted to spend more time with her. If I were to date her, I don't want to take it as fast as Kaoru did… The faster things go, the more miscommunications happen. I'm just gonna take my time, maybe something will happen, maybe something won't, but at least I know I'm getting to know her the way she deserves.
