Chapter Ninety-Two: Island Vacation
Sumi's POV
"Any idea when they're supposed to get here?" I asked Takashi. He heard more from everyone than I did.
"Only Kyoya, he's supposed to be here this afternoon." He answered tiredly.
"That's not surprising, he doesn't wake up before noon on a weekend if he doesn't have to."
"Neither do we if we don't want to." Takashi suggested.
Kissing him softly, I moved from the bed, "Not when we don't know when everyone else is coming. If we were home, I might have taken you up on that. I'm gonna go shower, if you want I can wake you back up when I'm done getting ready."
"Okay." He yawned.
By the time I had finished showering and getting dressed, the doorbell rang. I looked down at my phone to check the time, it was only quarter to nine in the morning. Groaning, I walked back into the bedroom to wake up Takashi.
"Takashi, someone's here. You're gonna have to get up." I told him, pushing against his shoulder. He groaned and slowly got out of bed. "I'll go see who it is, show them to a room."
"Okay…" He agreed before wandering into the bathroom and closing the door behind him. I walked down to the front to answer the door.
On the other side of the door were Kaoru and Tamaki. Both had a duffle in one hand and pastries in the other. Letting them inside, I greeted them with an awkward, "Hey."
Kaoru replied with a soft hey and let me know that Hikaru and Kimi would be here this afternoon. Hikaru had taken Kimi to breakfast. I was surprised at how well he had been taking how much time the two spent together. There was no trace of awkwardness or bitterness in his tone, he was genuinely happy that the two of them were spending time together. He also let me know that Carmen and Haruhi had plans to be here this evening. Tamaki, however, skipped the greeting entirely, complaining about how Kaoru knew about Haruhi and he didn't.
Rolling my eyes, I commented dryly, "Maybe because he's a friend in her class and sees her more than you do. And no offence, but unless things have changed, you have a habit of acting like a raving jealous lunatic around her. We all get you have a thing for her, but chill. She'll be here this evening, you can obsess over her then." It was too early in the morning to deal with his nonsensical obsession, especially when that wasn't what he was supposed to be here for. Although it really shouldn't be surprising that that was his focus, I just thought what happened over summer vacation would have taught him something. Deciding to change the subject instead of standing in silence, I spoke up again, "I'll show you guys to the kitchen so you can set those down and then to the rooms you'll be staying in for the night."
After leading them to the kitchen, I had them set the pastries on the counter and showed them each to a room to set down their things before going back to the kitchen to make a pot of coffee for them and Takashi and herbal tea for myself.
"Who was at the door?" Takashi asked as he wandered into the kitchen.
"Tamaki and Kaoru." I answered, reaching up to the cabinet to pull down mugs, "They brought pastries. I put some coffee on for you guys."
"I can get those." He offered. Accepting his offer, I backed away from the cabinet. He was a foot taller and would have an easier time than I would trying to reach up to grab them on my toes. "Do you remember what clues we're supposed to give them to find?"
"No, I was kind of gonna have them do whatever on their vacation." I replied, "I've already left the letters for those who haven't gotten theirs yet in their room."
"Are you going to tell Kyoya where Yuki is?"
"At some point." I answered. I'd give him the opportunity he and Yuki gave me, an option to have a life different from my own.
"Is there something you're waiting for?"
"Him to ask."
"So what'll happen with the scavenger hunt?"
"Renge will do whatever she wants with them if there's anything left."
He nodded as he poured a cup of coffee for himself. He asked if Tamaki or Kaoru had mentioned when the others were coming and I provided him with the answer that Kaoru had given me as I threw away the tea bag that had been steeping in my mug.
"Is that real coffee?" Kaoru asked, seeing the pot.
"Yeah, it's Caribou Coffee, I found it online." I answered, "I have creamer if you want any."
"Any milk?" He asked.
"Only coconut."
"That's fine." He replied, taking the coconut milk and non-dairy creamer out of the fridge, "I'm just happy to see real coffee."
"Getting tired of instant?" I asked him.
He nodded reluctantly, "A little."
"I can talk to Kimi about different coffee brands that aren't too expensive, if you want." I offered, "I've found quite a few online."
"I'd say yes, but Tamaki still seems a little stuck on the instant."
"He's not the only one in the club." I pointed out, "If anyone else wants coffee, just let me know and I'll put in an order for you guys."
"I'll talk to the others." Kaoru replied, before changing the subject, "How's Hana doing?"
"She's good." I answered, "Reiko and Hunny are watching her for the weekend."
"She liking school?"
"No." Takashi and I answered together.
"Why?" He asked us.
"Why what?" Tamaki asked as he walked into the kitchen.
"Why Hana doesn't like school..." I told him, before answering Kaoru,"There's a long list of things she doesn't like about school, but the main three boil down to her uniform, her classmates, and her teachers."
"So the whole school experience." Kaoru commented.
"Basically." Takashi nodded.
"We're looking at other options for next school year." I added, "It really depends on how a few things pan out."
"Like with the baby or the business?" Kaoru asked.
"When are they due? Do you know the gender yet?" Tamaki asked.
"Both." Takashi answered Kaoru.
"They're due around the beginning of May." I answered Tamaki, "We decided to wait to find out the gender until they're born."
"You didn't want to know?" Tamaki asked.
"Not really." I responded, "We're happy either way."
"So have you guys picked out any names?" Kaoru asked.
"We like the name Izumi." Takashi responded.
Kimi's POV
As we walked out of the cafe, we talked about our plans for the rest of the weekend. We knew we'd end up at the island villa at some point later today, but that didn't mean we couldn't do anything before then.
"So you wanna go see a movie or something?" Hikaru asked when reaching his car.
"I think we've seen everything I've wanted to see, but there's an art festival not too far from here."
"Indoor or outdoor?"
"Outdoor."
Hesitantly, he replied, "It's supposed to rain, but if you want to go, we can."
"The festival's gonna be around for the next few weeks, we can always go next weekend."
"Yeah, we could pair it with the cooking class that we have next Saturday."
"Okay, do you remember what this class is?" I asked as we got into the car.
"It's a Peruvian cooking class, thought it'd be cool to try something new." He responded, "So, you want to go somewhere?"
After thinking for a few moments, I answered, "I can't think of anything that isn't outside."
"We could go back to my house, put on Netflix, hang out on the couch…" He suggested.
Raising an eyebrow, I asked, "Are you suggesting Netflix and Chill?"
"My parents are gone for the weekend. I know you've been meaning to see Merlin, I thought maybe we could hang out and watch it."
"We're supposed to be going to that island villa later today with the rest of the club." I reminded him.
"We could always skip it." He replied, "We have our letters. It's not like we won't have the chance to go again. What do you think?"
"I'm thinking we should go to that gourmet popcorn place we went to last weekend and pick up a few bags of popcorn."
"Two savory and one sweet?"
"Ranch, Dill, and Carmel."
"No cheddar?"
"Not unless we want to pick up another bag."
"We can pick up another bag." He replied, "We should get some ice cream too."
"Rocky Road?" I suggested.
"Yeah, we could pair it with the caramel popcorn. We could also pick up some m&ms and some other ice cream toppings."
"Oo yeah, we should order a pizza later too."
"You know that candy shop down the street from the popcorn shop sells butterbeer, we should get that while we're getting the ice cream toppings."
"Sounds like we've got a plan." I smiled, "We'll have to let the others know we're not coming."
"I'll text them when we get home."
Kyoya's POV
After my conversation with Allan, I did everything I could on my own to find Yuki and try to reach out to her, but I couldn't find anything. I attempted to speak with Renge to get the information out of her. She wouldn't tell me anything. The best chance I had was to see if Sumi would tell me anything.
Picking up my bag, I made my way down the stairs. As I made my way to the door, I heard Akito ask, "Where are you headed? We have an event to be at this evening."
"You'll have to give Father my apologies, I have other plans." I responded, not turning around. There was nothing he could do that was worse than what he had already done.
"I was hoping to take my fiance, however she's been unreachable as of late." Akito continued, "Have you heard anything from her? From what I remember, you two were quite close before she was betrothed to me. Close enough for Father to almost consider her to be a match for you until I talked him out of it."
Unable to help myself, I asked stoically, "Why would you do that?"
"She's beautiful, independent, and spirited, thought I'd enjoy the challenge." He answered, "If you have any contact with her, let me know. She missed the dinner arrangement that I had made for us."
"I haven't heard anything from her." I told him, opening the door, 'And you're the last person I'd tell if I do.' I walked out, closing the door behind me.
Reiko's POV
"So, after breakfast, we'll go to the dojo, so that you can start the lessons you promised." I started to list off, "You talked to Sumi and Takashi about that right?"
"Yeah, if Hana likes it, we'll make it a weekly thing." Mitsu answered, "Did you get the tickets for the aquarium?"
"I did." I nodded, "I've also got reservations for a cat cafe to have tea and snacks for later this afternoon. Did you want to go out for dinner or get takeout?"
"Takeout, we could do pizza or something." Mitsu responded, "We'll have to see what she feels like."
"I was thinking we could take her to the movies tomorrow." I suggested, "Hotel Transylvania 2 is still playing. We could watch the first movie tonight with dinner."
"We could go to the mall after."
"Okay, we could probably get her a few new things like some toys and clothes."
"How long did you want to let her sleep?" Mitsu asked about the still sleeping Hana.
"If she doesn't wake up in another hour, we'll wake her up, if she doesn't wake up before then."
"Okay." He stood, "Do you want any more coffee?"
"Sure." I handed him my mug, "Do we have any more cherry danishes?"
"Yeah, we have a couple left, I'll get you one." He lifted my plate and walked over to the counter. As he was coming back with the coffee and danish, Hana sluggishly wandered into the kitchen.
"Hey sweetie, you want something to eat?" I asked her. She answered with a soft okay and Mitsu got her an apple danish. He then sat down with his own cup of coffee and a cheese danish. Mitsu started to tell her about the different things she'd be learning at the dojo this morning. It was really sweet watching her eyes light up as he talked. Here and there she'd ask him questions about the different types of martial arts and if he could teach her certain things. A few of the things we'd have to talk to Takashi about due to them being kendo techniques. It might be good for them if he taught her what she was interested in when it comes to kendo.
Takashi's POV
By the time we had finished breakfast, it had started to rain. Sumi showed Tamaki to the home theater while I showed Kaoru to the game room. As we walked to the game room, Kaoru was silently looking down at his phone, texting.
"Hikaru and Kimi aren't coming, they decided to stay home." Kaoru commented as we reached the door of the game room.
"Might be best with the weather." I told him, "The storm is supposed to be headed that way."
"Yeah, I'm gonna let Carmen and Haruhi know to stay home." He replied, "I was looking at the forecast, it's supposed to get pretty bad. Any word from Kyoya?"
Looking down at my phone, I checked to see if I had any messages from him. There was one from about a half an hour ago, saying that he was on his way and that he'd be here in a few hours.
"He's on his way." I answered, Kaoru nodded. "Just let me or Sumi know if you need anything."
"Will do."
After Kaoru walked into the game room, I left to go find Sumi. It didn't take too much searching, she had been in the second room I had looked in: the library. I sat down on the couch next to her, wrapping my arms around her. She shifted slightly so that she was leaning against my chest.
"What are you reading?" I asked her.
"It's a book about cults, thought it'd be an interesting read."
Nodding, I asked, "You looking into another charity?"
"Into helping a program that rescues and deprograms people who have fallen under the influence of cults." She answered. Her answer wasn't surprising, Sumi had wanted to use her wealth to help people in as many ways as possible and I was fully behind her in that decision.
"Is there anyway I could help?"
"Sure, if you want."
