Chapter XVI
Sixteenth session
Kagome turned around, surprised to hear that voice which wasn't only familiar to her, but that her mind had a name already assigned to it. She met his eyes, and these produced inside her all of the things they usually created: surprise, enjoyment, anxiety and a deep heat throughout her body, down to the marrow of her bones.
"InuYasha" She managed to module his name, with more tenderness than she would have liked to allow herself.
"That's me." The drawing of a smile on his features was soft and close.
Kagome put her everything into regaining her composure, before those watchful golden eyes.
"So, has your Thursday's date failed you?" He insisted with the question.
"So it seems, yeah." She tried to sound at ease, and didn't miss the flare that his gaze seemed to release, right before deviating from her to the girl working at the bar.
"That's a shame." He wanted to pass as carefree and maybe a bit ironic.
Hello, I'm Hanako. What can I get you?" They were interrupted by the girl behind the table.
"I want a Gin and Tonic." He asked, and she smiled at him. Kagome considered: too much innocent intent.
Typical of women who seek a long relationship. She thought.
"Want something?" Kagome had to focus on InuYasha's eyes again when he voiced his question.
"The same." She threw a glance towards the girl at the bar, before she went away.
Both of them kept the silence alive for an instant, waiting for the other to give way to conversation, or to some words which connected them in the same manner their skin linked them right now. They weren't even touching yet it seemed as if both of them could feel each other's body brushing against their own.
"And... What about your Tuesday's date?" Suddenly Kagome almost spat, maybe as a way to continue their conversation, or maybe as a veiled reproach.
InuYasha turned to look at her sideways, as she remained in front of the bar. His mind seemed to recall a series of images of Kagome, without stopping at a particular one. He knew the images were turning into emotions, and from there to the soul, there was but a step and he needed to escape from that, for safety; for pure survival.
"I think I've been stood up." He voiced with all the ease of manner he was able to. Kagome stole a glance of him, seemingly wanting to hold back the smile playing on the corner of her mouth, so that it remained out of his field of vision.
InuYasha watched how she introduced her hand inside the purse she was wearing, then placed on the bar the phone he had lost two days ago. Kagome made a soft gesture with her hand, sliding the device near InuYasha.
"Maybe it was because they couldn't reach you." Her voice sounded sinuous, as if her words were on her lips even before being said. For InuYasha it was clear they were playing to seduce, and for a moment he pondered the idea of letting go, take the phone and cut that unhealthy sensation, however... he was an addict, right?
"Maybe" He replied, the same mood she used enveloping his words, and his hand brushed against the side of hers as he pulled the phone closer.
For Kagome It was inevitable to feel every pore of her body expand when InuYasha touched her. She wanted to curse beneath the strength of such sensation, yet she just took a deep breath, trying to conceal it as much as possible.
"Your Gin and Tonics." both heard and paid attention to Hanako.
That gave way to the ritual of thanking and tasting the drink. Kagome felt refreshed, albeit momentarily, of the sensations inside her. InuYasha took it as a necessary pause to cool down the yearning he felt of taking Kagome's hand and get out of there, lost beneath the rain drops.
"Do you come here often?" She asked, attempting to have a more trivial conversation.
"Sometimes, a while ago. I like the place, although it becomes much more cheerful during the weekends." InuYasha understood Kagome's intention and tried to play along. She kept attracting him like a magnet and his mind and gaze were inevitably falling on her on her lips. "And you?"
Kagome turned a bit towards him, almost imperceptibly, yet InuYasha, drinking from his glass, noticed it immediately.
"Yes, I've also happened to be here some weekends. It's strange I never saw you though; I doubt you'd have gone unnoticed to me." With those words, Kagome subtly insinuated all of those things InuYasha was trying not to think about.
"It's also strange I never saw you" His voice was tender, almost whispered despite the background music. Kagome found his gaze so intense she was only able to endure it for a second, maybe two. "Is there a reason you stopped coming?" He wanted to know, and she smiled. Yes, of course there was a reason.
"Are your Gin and Tonics to your liking? Do you want anything else?" The sweet, almost caramel like voice of the girl behind the bar interrupted them. Kagome heard her talk and held back a sardonic giggle which was threatening to become a burst of laughter.
"Do you want anything else?" InuYasha asked, with a clear hidden intent she answered by rising her chin slightly, without evading his gaze.
"Not for now." She parted his lips and sighed very slowly.
InuYasha looked away from her, to thank the girl with a generous smile intended to let her know they were alright, for now. When the girl went away, Kagome spoke again.
"To not be her is why I stopped coming." She pinched. InuYasha made a soft gesture with his brow: wrinkled it, then relieved it in a second.
"I don't understand." He paid her all his attention. Kagome threw him fleeting glances, unable to hold his gaze.
"Nothing, just something dumb." She didn't have the intention of confessing anything. She drank a bit more from her glass.
"C'mon, tell me, I want to know." In that moment she looked at his eyes again, and saw that which she had found so many times before in InuYasha: Honesty.
That unsettled her, throwing her completely off her game. She turned her gaze aside, towards the rest of the place, as if looking for something; maybe something to cheer her up and allow her to count her thoughts, or an excuse not to do it.
"Kagome" He called her. She looked at him.
"Nothing." She wanted to remain silent, like so many other times. If she didn't explain anything, she wouldn't have to expose herself to someone else's judgement. Only she knew why she took the decisions she had made along the way, and how she handled her life. InuYasha didn't stop looking at her, waiting, and Kagome felt how her first defense barrier was being lowered. She clicked her tongue in an act of emotional exhaustion. "Simply, I'll never be a sweet woman which acts perfectly in search of someone to love her for all that she feigns to be."
InuYasha kept a serene expression, without uttering a word, as if he knew there was more, and despite that she waited he never said anything.
"What?" Kagome wanted to rise that barrier again. His mouth, however, didn't move, paying her total attention, and that encouraged her to fill the silence between them. "Men always think we should be like that." She lifted her hand, with the intention of gesturing towards the girl behind the bar, yet she repressed it. "They can fuck whatever crosses in front of them, but a woman has to expect to be loved for virgin, then for devout."
InuYasha opened his eyes a bit more, in a gesture of surprise Kagome didn't want to interpret.
"Wow, all men? Do you know them all?" He joked with that which both of them used as an argument against absolutisms
"You know what I mean." Well-nigh without realizing she had turned towards her companion almost in her entirety.
InuYasha smiled and drank, without answering, watching the girl behind the bar throwing him cautious glances, enveloped in a shyness Kagome saw as feigned.
"See? You are proof enough." She felt her stomach twist.
"What?" He asked, completely surprised.
"Yes, a bambi looks at you and that's it, your attention changes focus and thinks about her for the rest of your life." The string of words had come out of her mouth without being able to stop it.
"The rest of my life?" He smiled again, not without a certain irony. She saw him bit his lip slowly, in a gesture which sought to hold back an even wider smile.
InuYasha understood they were entering a terrain he wasn't sure of being able to handle.
"Yes." Kagome shrugged, as if looking to diminish the importance of what she had just said.
"Do you believe a bambi, like you said, fits my personality?" His gaze fell on her directly, and he even bent slightly towards her, taking advantage of his height to mark his words.
Kagome felt suddenly out of breath. For some reason the heat coming from InuYasha was touching her even if not physically.
"I don't know you that much." She attempted to defend herself from that question, a question charged with a vigor he emanated without realizing.
"I think you know me well enough." Every word was said we rhythm and intent, as if trying to make Kagome feel how her bones melted.
"Did he get even closer?" She couldn't but ask inside her mind, as it tried to process the way in which she felt, over her arms and could be said on her entire body, the heat coming from him, despite the centimeters between them.
InuYasha was witness to her silence and brooding, to the way in which Kagome moistened her lips in a gesture so hers it made him wish to drink from her mouth, one kiss at a time.
"I'm going to the bathroom." She phrased then, as a fluttering idea inside her mind suddenly took over her.
"Alright." InuYasha tried to conceal, in his answer, his total surprise. It was then when Kagome got close, quite close to him and whispered...
"After one minute, you follow."
And she walked away.
Kagome, probably, wasn't aware of how his blood abruptly rushed in his veins before that offer, forcing him to turn around towards the bar, hoping a minute was enough to dissimulate his erection.
Time began to pass, which he confirmed three times; Never a minute had felt so long. When he saw the number change, he also felt the fearful butterflies inside his stomach, knowing that was happening only because it was about Kagome. He drank a big gulp from his glass and left the money on the bar, pointing to it so that the girl saw it. She smiled at him with much more happiness now that he was alone. Then, he began walking towards the bathroom, questioning the insistent unease he noticed and that didn't allow him to retain control of anything when Kagome was concerned.
He stood before the two kanji making clear which one was the men's service, and which one was the women's. He felt thankful about the fact that not many people seemed interested of being near. He pulled to the side the door with the kanji "women" and entered.
Kagome saw him through the mirror occupying part of the wall, she seemed as uneasy as him, yet that didn't discourage her at all. InuYasha watched her walk towards one of the cabins, and had to admit she was a determined woman, despite encasing her heart under seven keys.
He followed her.
He entered the small cabin and both looked at each other. Kagome was standing near one of the thin walls and InuYasha had his back against the closed door. For an instant, looking was all they did, as if both of them were pondering about the moment and the place. He analyzed the space, and what he could do with it, and with her; it wasn't the first time he found himself in similar circumstances, albeit it had always been on a weekend, and after many hours of partying.
InuYasha watched her hand take hold of his belt directly, then pulled him close, guiding him towards her. He got near without any caution, and touched her with all his body. He closed his eyes before the feeling of his sex, imprison beneath his clothes, brushing against Kagome's belly, and got delighted at her barely held breath. Next, he heard the sound of something crystalline between them, which made him stare at Kagome's hands, holding a dark collar with some white details.
"What's that?" The question was completely valid, and the answer was just as clear.
Kagome lifted her hands towards his head, and in a gesture which mixed her head bending slightly and a gaze, asked him to let her do it, and InuYasha accepted. The collar soon found a place on his neck.
"A rosary?" He asked, looking at the part of the collar resting on his chest. She confirmed with a gesture.
The next thing he saw were her hands taking off his jacket through his shoulders and back, leaving him only in a shirt. He could feel her breathing on his chest, through the cloth, and that only flared up his yearning even more.
"You are perverse." He muttered.
Kagome smiled with that mischievous air he knew already. Despite finding that moment quite agreeable, he couldn't but think that sex was just a way for her to get out of a complex conversation, that forced her to reveal herself way more profoundly than what's physical. He became aware of the way she pulled at his shirt, from the edges, leaving only a few buttons to keep it on.
He bent and wanted to kiss her. Kagome turned her head away slightly, as if looking to evade the caress; however, she halted her gesture and came back in search of his lips. InuYasha practically moaned when he felt the healt and moist of their linked mouths. She had given in and couldn't help feeling the caress tasted like triumph. There was desire in that kiss, and even a shimmering hope touching them as neither dared to say a word.
The heat and tension in both their bodies began to ascend in a vertiginously, just as it usually happened to them. InuYasha sought the edge of her dress, sinking his hands under it, tracing her thighs and then holding her by her ass, to stick her close to his body and drag her over his erection. He felt her lift a leg, and never knowing how, hooked his pants loop. InuYasha had to held onto the wall with both his hands, afraid of losing his balance and hurt her, under that act of possession Kagome wielded at heel's point.
"What are you doing?" He asked, meeting her gaze.
"Feeling you." She let out her breath in the middle of her words.
Next, she held his collar between her teeth, stood on the point of foot she still had on the ground and began to brush her sex against his.
"Kagome." He muttered her name over her lips, then hissed when feeling the form of her sex, inviting him to enter. "Crap." He said then, slowly.
"What's wrong?" She asked, almost out of breath. She felt the weight of her blood running thick through her veins.
InuYasha kissed her again, stealing what little breath remained. His hips swayed, slowly yet intense. When he finally allowed her to think again, he voiced his question.
"Do you have protection?"
It took Kagome a second to react to that, mentally going through the staff she had inside her purse. Then, she began to laugh.
To be continued.
