Later the night, Iolanthe bounced through the sliver skies and listened to her walkman, continuously playing the pleasant music by Björk through the skyline. The songs she would occasionally play always mentioned someone, about a "he". Who is he? The words seemed lovely and filled with emotion that Iolanthe could not grasp just yet and this was just a dull understanding. There was always meaning in the music, a meaning that remained obscure.
Every night was a breath of fresh air although this night wasn't clear, it was shrouded by the veils of clouds. This circumstance dimmed her power source directly but it was still strong that it was evening time.
Now and then she would get bored of fooling around with unsuspecting humans and their repetitive reaction of fear. Iolanthe decided to do something a bit fresh and wanted to find her victims and stalk them individually instead of whoever came close to her.
She traveled not too far and found herself in an area where a large base of water was. There laid a structure that seemed abandoned and ruined yet still kept above the water. There was warm energy coming from it, a familiar yet unspecified aura coming from it. Even though she had no direct contact with this person, the faraway galaxy guided her, nevertheless. Iolanthe took her moment before striking, closing in on the location, and attempted to hear any sort of sounds and she managed to find some; something striding, some sort of automated thing advancing within the wooden structure.
The curiosity made Iolanthe giddy with excitement, eager to pursue and toy with her new victim.
Her back was arched like a cat, climbing top of the unstable set of the wooden canopy. Her heavyweight was starting to result in noise, causing a creaking sound against the canopy and it was ruining the tension. She managed to find a big enough hole to peep through and could see a moving figure under the wood planks. With enough confidence, she raised her violet orb and orchestrated it on its own to pursue the observation for her.
Just like an angler fish, she led the glowing orb inside the contour where she began her jumping point. The glow twinkled the dark ruins, finally causing attention to whoever was a presence there. Slowly, Iolanthe continued to move up on the roof and ultimately aimed at who was there.
Her eyes scorched even brighter at the sight of it; someone so bizarre, someone that had made her feel utterly fascinated with appetite. The man with the mechanical arms took notice of the strange purple orb floating in thin air, causing him to cease his activity.
With her violet sphere in direct eye contact with the man, they fell into a trance just like how she had anticipated. She stood up and instantly pounced through the air, aiming closely at the bewitched man.
In a split second, one of the mechanical arms shifted suddenly and rapidly darted towards Iolanthe, grabbing her by the torso, slamming her against the floorboards.
She let out a raw groan from the unexpecting attack as her violet orb powered down due to the onslaught. The man was no longer stricken by the trance and immediately driven his focus on the unrelenting attacker that invaded his space. The arms lifted her like a weakened vermin on a stick.
He brought her closer to him, his eyes squinted at what he was exactly looking at her. An ordinary humanoid girl with tan skin, messy jet black hair, and an old, worn dress. The arms turned her around and finally, he noticed something abnormal. A long thin tail with a white tip that was shaped like a blade.
"What are you...?" He said with bafflement.
She didn't like this at all and abruptly drew her orb of light in front of him, causing a blinding light to his eyes. Although staggered by the blinding glint, his mechanical arms remained around her and squeezed even tighter. Iolanthe let out a maniacal squeal of discomfort, admitting defeat for this moment.
"I said, what are you?" His tone was deep and stern, utterly curious at what he managed to ensnare. She just grinned and said, "Can you even comprehend the answer?" giggles passed through her words, as the tightening squeeze continued.
"What is this?" One of his mechanical limbs managed to clasp the violet orb in its palm: It that was her main power source and Iolanthe's expression changed from euphoria to shock.
"How? —You can simply— hold it?" Said, Iolanthe, her eyes widening in astonishment.
"You're not human, not at all. Let me repeat this one more time. What exactly are you?"
Rolling her eyes, she couldn't help but be conflicted, "I am a part of the ... universe. I fell so heavy through the earth and I'm here now. —I learn, I seek and I toy with humans all around!" She chortled immensely through all the tightness of the compression.
"You're an... alien?" He said.
"Alien? Is that the word you call me?"
"You say you're from the universe. What else are you?" He answered back.
"This is the most talk I have spurred. And you are kinda interesting too." The pain was starting to numb her body, her voice slurring with bliss.
The man released a harsh exhale and then decided to put her down, releasing his arms around her. She was dazed and stunned at the sudden motion.
"Why? You let me go? Like that?" Said, Iolanthe.
"I think you've become my new point of interest and maybe you'll prove useful..."
"You think I will do whatever it is you need doing?" she giggled, "So naive."
"Not as naive as you think." He turned around as one of his mechanical arms grasped tightly onto her violet sphere. It was her source and heart. "Seems important. I can simply crush it if you'll like."
Her expression changed from light to dark, a harshness careening her expression. Then she growled, a heat of wrath soon coming down to the shore.
"You do that and I'll- I'll cut your mushy flesh off!"
He didn't reply, he took admiration of the glowing orb and decided to grasp the orb tighter. It made Iolanthe wince, the body she was in was beginning to collapse into a violet framing around its shape, like a ghost resisting to escape its shell. The man just observed the reaction and appeared laboriously inquisitive in what he had discovered.
"How exactly did you obtain a human form if it didn't belong to you in the first place?"
Her gaze dimmed but her pearl white eyes illuminated even brighter, "... I consumed the body and core of a girl I followed, and I now own it." She smiled weakly. Ultimately, she found herself defeated,
"...—You ask so many questions..." She muttered, now laying her body against the floor.
This somewhat concerned him, gradually realizing that she was weakening. He picked her up with one of the limbs and suddenly, she tried to claw at him with fierce hostility and all he did was smirk at her attempt.
"What exactly was your purpose here? To kill me..?"He almost seemed amused.
She pursed her lips at him and replied, "Yes, but no. Just to have some fun. It's just... Most of you humans die so easily, I can't do much of anything. -I'm bored."
After a moment of silence, he softens the grip around her body to a more natural state, "What could I even call you? Does someone like you have a name...?"
She raised her head at him with surprise and thought about the answer.
"Mmh... My... Name- my name Isobel!" She didn't have a human name at all, and the only thing that she could think of was giving herself the name after the song she remembered listening to constantly.
"Well, Isobel. I'm thinking of using you for my project."
"Project?-" Isobel murmured.
"This thing, it seems just as powerful.—Perhaps..."He holds her violet sphere in his palm, Beginning to mutter to himself, pacing around as his mind was trying to speculate. Meanwhile, Isobel looked at his overall appearance, trying to decipher what exactly he was and how his self-regulating arms pertained to his body.
"Tell me... - erm. Human. What are you?" Isobel titled her head like a curious dog.
"Human? My name is Dr. Otto Octavius." He scoffed, looking over his shoulder at her.
"That is... a long name. Dr. Otto Octavius."
"It's my full name. You're welcome to call me: Otto."
Isobel stared at him with wonderment, this was the most time that she ever interacted with another being; this time he was beginning to be more mellow with his words even though he was legislating her orb.
"Why do need my star?" Isobel started to pout, utterly curious for his obscure intentions.
"Your star?"
She moaned and tried to form a sentence, "I have watched the earth grow from far away and I always -yearned for what it was like. To experience everything you humans do."
She pointed at the violet orb with her head, "You have my dark star, my heart, my core." Once she explained herself, Otto lifted the star above his head, glimpsing at the star with awe. "This can help with my fusion reactor..."Says Otto. Isobel lifts a brow in confusion,
"Your... fusion... -What? Why?" Her sense of knowledge and was limited to her own and yet, she didn't fully comprehend the overall intellect of what he was trying to create.
"I aim to create what was destroyed. My fusion reactor; to have the sun in the palm of my hand."
Isobel then becomes unamused by his ambiguous ambition, "The sun? The sun is beyond your span. Your little mushy body won't even touch it!"
"You haven't seen it. I've brought it here before. I just need it to happen again..."
Isobel sighed and contemplated for a moment and said, "Fine. - I could... Possibly help you."
He turned around and closely steered her to him, face to face. "Help me? I've done it before, why would I need your help?"
" You say...-it was destroyed before? Because your understanding of the universe is so tiny!" Isobe's smile shimmered with mockery.
"I'm a man of science. I've studied this for years. You don't know what you're talking about." He was beginning to become aggravated but something was holding him back. Isobel was getting tired of talking and just stayed silent for now.
Finally, he released her, setting her down gently along the floorboards. With freehands, Isobel clenched his hands and drew energy towards her violet sphere, bringing it to her with ease. Otto was utterly confused and stunned at the easy gesture, simply taking it out of his grasp.
"You could've done that from the beginning?!"
Isobel smiled, "Yes. - I just wanted to see how far this would go..."
Feeling humiliated, he struck an arm towards her but swiftly evaded them, promptly swivelled her hands through the air where the gravity began to affect him greatly, causing him to lose equilibrium. Isobel just began to giggle like a mischievous imp as she watched him float in the air.
"Stop this!" He yelled in irritation. Otto attempted to thrust his mechanical tentacles at her but they fell limb.
"I can stop it... Maybe if- if I can stay here!" Said Isobel with enthusiasm.
"What?!"
"I'll help you if you let me stay here with you, is all."
He thought about it for a moment, nodding rapidly out of frustration, "Fine! Just stop this!"
With a gesture of a hand, Isobel ceased the gravity bubble and Otto fell against the hardened wooden planks. Isobel looked over to him to ensure he wouldn't do anything tricky but overall, finally, she had a moment where she didn't have to defend herself from being apprehended like an animal.
