A/N: Hey guys, it's me again. I tried writing this one faster, but again it didn't work too well. I have some of the later chapters already written. I'm great at writing out of order. Anyways, I hope you like this chapter, but I think many of you are going to hate it. Yes she is with Jake right now, but it won't be like forever. It's all part of the story, trust me. Also, I should remind everyone, I don't live in San Francisco, where this takes place, so if I get some details wrong, be easy on me. Enjoy ;)
CHAPTER 6:
My fingers traced the keys not knowing exactly what to type. I had an argument against Anne Wilson piling up, but it was is no way professional. Every time I wrote her name my heart jumped in the worst way possible. Anger from yesterday still flowed through my veins and in my writing. I tried, I really did, to not sound biased against her, but it seemed impossible.
My brain stopped as I had to write about Jake's stabbing. Reliving the moment, I winced and continued as best as I could. Come on Bella. The faster you get this over with the faster you can see him. And it was true. The faster I wrote, the faster I could get to my date. My memories shifted to Jake's contagious smile in the hospital bed. I can't wait to see Wilson in that repulsive orange jumpsuit.
My eyes traveled to the clock hanging on the beige wall. I had been sitting on the same felt-covered seat for 4 hours, and, frankly, I needed to move before both my legs fell asleep. A tingling was making my way up from my foot through my whole leg. Looking down, I realized that I wasn't sitting in the most conventional way.
Deciding to get up, I stumbled, of course. I couldn't feel my entire right leg. The ground flashed beneath me before I felt the familiar arms of Edward.
"You okay there?" My face turned a horrid shade of red that I attempted to hide with my hair. But before I got caught up on hiding my blush, my eyes met his. There were dark circles under his bright green eyes.
"My foot feel asleep."
"Oh okay. Be careful." His arms slower slide away from me, while I watched him move towards his desk. His eyes were full of worry, but his face held his usual calm facade.
Before turning to go to the break room, I looked at his desk. He had a fresh cup of coffee in his hand and three other empty cups in the trash. He typed effortlessly with complete concentration, still he looked off. A pang of guilt hit. He stayed up to help me, he let me sleep in, and he was doing work so that I wouldn't have to…and it was hurting him. He was going to deteriorate if he continued this. Then, I made the decision to hide away some of my feelings. I didn't want to become a burden.
My mind running with concern over him as my feet carried me into the break room. I heard the recognizable tapping of Jasper's foot on the carpet. Filling up my own cardboard cup, I peered at Jasper. His eyes were zoned out, clearly deep in thought. Before I could ask how he was, his pocket buzzed and he flicked his phone out.
Walking back, I overheard Jasper franticly trying to calm someone down. From the tone he was using I assumed it was Alice. I tried to leave them privacy as I sipped my coffee.
Sitting back at my desk, I started the arduous task of completing the last page about the interview. A pain grew near my temple. I could hear my heart pound in my head as the headache started to control my thoughts. The bright screen in front of me wasn't helping.
My phone vibrated in my pocket and suddenly the heat from the headache evaporated. It was Jake. A smile graced my lips as I read the test.
See you in two hours ;) - J
I bit my lip in excitement. I knew this day had to have at least one positive. Picturing Jacob standing next to me with his hand in his hair, I stared into space. Only one hour before I could go home and another one until I got to see his brilliant face.
—
Standing in front of my apartment, the sun shone on my skin leaving warmth. My eyes looked for cars on the street, wondering what he could possibly be driving. Leaning against the back wall, I began two people watch.
A couple in the cafe across from my building were in the middle of an argument. The woman's hands were making large gestures and the man's eyebrows were knitted. His hands clenched around the arms of his chair. As the woman had enough and motioned to leave, I felt a tap on the shoulder.
Turning around too quickly, Jacob steadied me by putting his arm around my waist.
"Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you."
"You didn't. You just startled me."
"You ready?" I looked for his car, but nothing was parked on the street. That's when I looked at the helmet hanging loosely in his hands. My eyes scoured the street for a motorcycle. I stopped at the black Harley that was parking on the other side of the street. The sun reflected in its smooth paint job.
"Here, you're going to need this." He handed me the plain red helmet and helped buckle it on my head. His hands lingered, but, honestly, I wanted them to linger longer. Bella, slow the hell down. You barely know him.
He took my hand as we crossed the street, which made my heart soar. My hand felt tiny compared to his, but I loved the warmth. Sprinting across the busy road, he was ahead of me and pulled me into his chest as a car sped by. I could feel the wind from the movement, but I disregarded it because his arms were wrapped around me, and that felt more important.
Motioning towards the bike, I awed at it. I had never ridden a motorcycle, but I wan't to for the longest time. The adrenaline rush would be welcomed.
"You feel okay about this?" He actually looked nervous.
"Okay?" My face lit up, "this is the best beginning to a date ever. I've always wanted to do this." He's smiler widened even more, if that was possible.
"Well hop on." He put his leg on the other side and I joined him. My arms wrapped around his waist. Well, this isn't too bad. I smiled. Any reason to be close was a good one.
Hearing the roar of the engine, I braced myself for the ride. As soon as we started to move, the wind played with my hair. I pressed my face up against his back, feeling the muscles beneath the leather. Turning to the right, I squeezed harder around his waist. The movement was thrilling.
Before I could look up we came to a smooth stop. Looking around, we were parked in a blank lot. We both got off and then I got a better view. I thought he said something about water. The area was covered in trees but I definitely didn't see any water.
"You look confused."
"I am." I looked at him in suspicion. "Where are we?"
"I guess you'll just have to find out. Give me a second I have to grab something."
I watched as he made his way to the pathway and picked up something laying in the grass. Fishing rods? That's definitely not what I expected. He walked closer to me, trying to hide the polls behind his back.
"Guess what we're doing?"
"Fishing?" I laughed. This date was truly one of a kind.
' "You laugh now, but you'll see. It'll be fun." I could already picture the lake in front of us and the small ripple of the water as we casted our rod. My thoughts traveled back to the summers I spent with my dad. I missed my dad so much. All the Sundays fishing came back to me. I always thought they were a waste of time, until I no longer had them.
Caught up in my own head, Jake nudged me to bring me back into reality.
"So this was your grand plan?"
"Do you not like it?" His face dropped faster than I've ever seen.
"Of course not, I love it." I gave him a quick peck on the cheek.
"I'm glad because, well, it took some effort and a tad bit of humiliation."
"Humiliation?" There was no way the man in front of me could ever be humiliated.
"Yeah I got a couple of chuckles when I used my motorcycle to tow those things here," he gestured toward the poles. And then I pictured it. A muscular dude, who is so good-looking that he could pass as a model, was riding a black sleek motorcycle carrying fishing rods.
"I guess that does sound odd. But I think it will be worth it." I grabbed his hand, pulling him towards the path. His hand intertwined with mine effortlessly.
Leading me forward, the green trail became a wooden bridge that overlooked the lake. I was stunned at the beautiful blue water and the green vegetation that surrounded us. Obviously not paying a lot of attention, I almost face-planted when he stopped suddenly.
Looking down, there was a basket filled with picnic items and a red and white checkered blanket. It was perfect. The food was laid out in such a particular way that it looked nice enough to want a picture. And then another thought popped into my head.
"How'd you get the basket down here?" I chuckled.
Biting his lip, he responded, "It took a couple trips to get all this stuff down here."
I was blown away by the effort that he put into this. Even my high school boyfriend of 3 years, Mike, had never done anything close to this. This had to have taken hours.
"You really didn't have to do all this."
"I wanted to."
I smiled, "But next time let's take all this stuff in my car." His loud laughter filled my head with joy. It was the most raw laugh I had ever heard, but it was still mesmerizing.
"Let's fish." He handed me the pole after he set up the bait and the line. With one hand securely holding the pole, I leaned back to lay on the dock and let the sun's warmth envelop me.
I basked in the sun's rays. Opening my eyes, my vision was blurred for a moment. Once it cleared, I stared at Jake's smile. It was almost close to a smirk.
"What are you smiling about?"
"Nothing," he laughed. Closing my eyes once again, I noticed that the fishing rod was no longer in my hand. A second later, I felt the ground leave from beneath me. Strong arms held me above the ground.
"What are you doing?" I opened my eyes to see his lit with excitement.
"I thought you should cool off." He laughed and dumped me into the clear lake water.
The water rushed around me as I worked my way up to the surface. The cooling temperature felt lovely against my skin. But, I wasn't going to let him get away with this.
Getting out of the water, I looked ridiculous. My clothes were soaked and stuck to my body in unflattering ways. Thankfully, I remembered the water tip and wore a bathing suit underneath.
"Thanks Jake," I smirked back at him. Pulling my top off, Jake diverted his eyes momentarily. He stared off into the distance while I changed behind him. And that's when I saw where our fishing rods went they were sitting. There was also a fish in the cooler next to it. When the hell did that happen? I must have fallen asleep.
I changed and walked towards him. Going to push him in, he got up and ruined my plans. I was just going to nudge him into the water, but he was too tall to get him in this way. Trying my best, I ran at him and stopped once I hit his rock hard body.
"Ugh."
He smiled and wrapped his arms around me, "Did you really think I would let you push me in?"
Looking up at him, I smiled, "I bet I can do it." If anything, he underestimated me. I was used to people looking at my small stature and thinking I couldn't take them down. Of course that wasn't my goal with Jake, I just wanted pay back.
I got closer and started talking about nonsense to distract him. With my body only an inch from him, I could feel his radiating warmth. I smiled for a second before I kicked his legs out from under him. Trying to move away from him, I felt arms around my waist.
What I wasn't expecting to happen was for him to grab me and take me down with him. His body held me straight against his. I could feel his muscular physique. The cold water touched the side of my arm as we fell side ways. Even under water he didn't let go of his clutch on me.
The water rushed around me as I tried to find the surface. I noticed that he was pushing us up. Gasping for air, I heard his musical laughter.
"Did you really think you would get away with that?" He winked causing a grin to appear on my face.
"Are you going to let me go?" I teased as I wrapped my legs around his waist.
"Would I really let you drown?" He smirked. Looking into his brown eyes, I watched the gold flecks sparkle. He leaned into me; his lips only an inch from mine. He paused making he think that he was asking my permission. My lips pressed into his. My grip on him tightened as our lips continued to collide.
Coming back only for air, I relished in the feeling. The kiss was passionate and all I wanted to do was continue. But, he had been treading water for the both of us for a while, so we had to get out.
Pushing on the dock to get up, I watched Jacob get up and pull me to him.
"Hungry?"
"Starving?"
Letting the sun dry us off, we dug into the picnic basket.
While a bite of food still in my mouth, I spoke for the first time in what seemed like ages, "So Jacob Black, tell me about yourself." I tried to be alluring, but I failed miserably.
"Well, as you know, I'm from New Mexico. I came here on vacation, but I seem to like the place pretty well so I'll probably move here."
"I already knew that Jake," I said nudging him. "Tell me something more."
As the sun started to set Jacob packed up the picnic. In the course of two hours, I had learned so much from this wonderful man beside me. His voice was like honey and it was impossible to not listen. Even when we debated about nachos for twenty minutes, I never got bored. His smile was intoxicating, scratch that, his whole presence was intoxicating.
I learned that he traveled, everywhere. Hong Kong, London, Paris, New York, Rome, and more. He loved to cook. His favorite show was Chopped which seemed appropriate considering the picnic he packed was nothing short of amazing. He had no siblings, like me, but always wanted one. These were just little things I remember, but overall I was falling hard for Jacob Black.
He made a pile of stuff to take home later, which I insisted that I take with my car, butt he refused.
With a kiss on the cheek, he helped me onto the motorcycle. Gripping his jacket, the wind played with my hair again. I was going to miss this feeling the second I stepped off.
I felt the motorcycle slow and then come to a stop. Getting off, my mood was sullen. I didn't want to leave him. But I knew, no matter how much time I had with him, it would probably never be enough.
"Why are you sad?" His eyes searched mine for answers.
"Because I have to go home."
"Silly, I'll see you again. I'm only one call away." His smile brightened my spirits.
"I might just take you up on that offer."
"I hope you will." He gave me a quick chaste kiss on my lips.
"Bye Bella."
"Bye Jake."
I leaned against the wall watching him drive off into the city. Looking up, it was starting to sprinkle and worry filled my stomach. Was it safe for him to drive in the rain? Before I could consider it more, my back pocket buzzed.
"Bella, Bella, Bella! You went on a date! Yesssss. I've been waiting for this," she paused for a second, "Why didn't you let me dress you?" I could hear the hurt in her voice.
"Alice calm down we went fishing, not to some elaborate restaurant."
"Fishing," she sounded disappointed.
"Don't say it like that. It was amazing Alice. Absolutely perfect."
"Start from the beginning."
A/N: So we made it through the first date. My friend suggested fishing after I tried to wrap my brain around a unique idea that somewhat fit the story. Also, I've never been on a date so I don't know if this is really how it's like. Again, I'm so sorry this took so long, but I hate writing these scenes. Regardless, I hope you all enjoyed it. Remember to comment :)
PS. If anyone's wondering I'm using the song "Fool For You" by Snoh Aalegra to write this.
