Hey everyone I hoped you all enjoyed the last chapter. As some of you have noticed this story is going into a different light concerning the Aldmeri Dominion. It's refreshing to see that people have interest on how the story will unfold.
So please, enjoy chapter 5 of Dova.
(Side note, I have updated the description of the story as it was or the original idea that has morphed over time.)
Snape was more than annoyed with the task at hand given to him by the headmaster. Today was going so well. He had his favorite meal all set up, a chilled glass of exotic wine that he had saved for the better part of the year and a new alchemist wizard weekly featuring the newest information in potion making. Soft music from the composition of Beethoven's Symphony was playing in the background as he had won a trip to the potion academia in Greece to be a part of the summer discussion of the effects of a new potion. There was not classes to teach, nor were they any thundering idiotic decisions made by them.
Then the phone rang and it all went downhill.
"Dam that old man." He cursed as he appeared in an alleyway. He was sure that the headmaster was doing this to get back at the winning streak his house was having. And it wasn't his fault! It was Sprout who had taken away the most Gryffindor House points this year after the twins had wrecked the Hufflepuff dormitories with their fart pranking devices that set the place up in stench heaven. Not to mention Ravenclaw was only 10 points from beating his slytherins if not for that accident involving the librarian and a book being destroyed.
Walking up the steps Smapes paused to straighten his tie with the reflection of the window. He never understood why so many Wizards did not keep up with the times of muggle fashion. If they wanted to blend in then in what universe did bright pink pants and a dark green shirt go together in London? Unless it was to stand out to stay invisible like that strange comic book character Superman and his glasses. The American's were odd like that, always taking complicated solutions instead of simple ones and it showed the selective bias of humans.
"Sir?" Snape turned to see a young male caretaker. The young man nodded his head towards the doorway where Snape was standing, blocking the way. "Can I help you?"
"My sincere apologies." A cultured response was adequate as while he had no great fondness of muggles he did not wish to make a that could cause issue later on. "I was told that I could find an old acquaintance of mine here."
"I see." Snaoe could hear the disbelief I the man's voice. "And the name of this… friend?"
'I am going to kill Dumbledore one day.' Snape thought to himself as he felt his blood pressure rise. Just where was the old man?
"And you have sherbet lemon tarts in super size!?" And excited Dumbledore question the store employee who was wondering who the heck the old man was doing in his bathrobe around his business suit.
"Yes sir…"
"I'll buy every box and jar!"
Tolan stared at the duo before him who were sitting on the chairs on the other side of his desk. He had faced armies, assassins, thugs and Daedric cult members. Now he was facing the most horrible thing imaginable.
"You wish to adopt Harry? Today?"
"Yes I said that. Is there a problem Mr. Jones of me doing so?"
Tolan felt a brow twitch. "Other than breaking the law?"
"How is being adopted breaking the law!" Harry shouted. Why was it he couldn't go with Faethar?
"Harry… there are rules and procedures that have been given to orphanages concerning the adoption of a child. I know you like miss Faethar but-"
"NO! It's always but this and that! Please sir, every time someone comes to adopt and says that they'll look into adopting me they lose interest after a day." Harry clenched his trousers tightly. "Please… isn't there anything you can do."
"My hands are bound to the laws of England, set down by her majesty and Parliament. You know this as well along with all yours peers." Tolan sighed as Harry began to sniffle. He was right and the old blade knew it. He couldn't prove it but an old man named Dumbledore had an interest in preventing Harry from being adopted and had invested serious capital into the orphanage and stock. It was a breach of interests for a stockholder to prevent a child from finding a home but if it wasn't for the money they would have had to scatter the children cross the Isle of Britain into other orphanages.
"Is there truly nothing you can do to let me adopt Harry?" Faethar asked slowly, display an air of calm. However she was anything but.
'I was expecting a simple extraction of the prince to be taken to Summerset, not some custody battle! Thankfully I bought a home out in the countryside of this land in cause something happened but this…'
"Perhaps she could fill out form eight sir? For a trial run with check ins to see if it a good match Mr. Jones?" Three pairs of eyes swiveled over to see the young woman who had followed Harry and Faethar earlier. Tolan had forgotten she was in the room as well. She nervously shifted foot to foot. "It isn't fair to them both if they really want this and Harry has been waiting for so long."
"So have many children and youths in our care. Some even longer than Harry or never and have become independent adults."
"That's just it sir, they had no one. Harry has had so many chances that have failed so please sir, please."
'Now why is it I'm the bad guy here?' Groaning Tolan leaned back in his chair. She was right and he cursed the impossible postion he was in. He rapped his knuckles against the desk before opening a filling cabinet within reach. "Are you sure about this Harry?"
"I am." Was the simple reply as Harry watched in anticipation and disbelief that this was really happening. As the paper slid over to Faethar Harry held in his breath. Was this final the moment he'll be adopted?
The silence that filled the air was shattered as sirens split the air. Harry, being closest to the window watched as two squad cars stopped near the candy store down the way. There was an old man in his bathrobe around a suit holding a large jar of candy running down the sidewalk. Getting up he walked over to get a better view as the old man threw his prize at an other man in a suit who was then tacked by a cop.
"Something the matter Harry?" Mr. Jones asked as Faethar read the form. Getting up he walked over to the window in time to see the second man start yelling at someone as he was placed inside the squad car. Groaning he ruffled Harry's head. "That's nothing to worry about now. Come away from the window."
Yes sir." Harry mumbled as he took one last look at the squad car leaving the scene. The hairs on the back of his neck were tingling but it was probably because he was getting adopted.
"Excuse me Mr. Jones, but was is this about Harry going to a private school in a year?" Harry looked to see Faethar pointing at a tan sheet of paper the lady caretaker had given Faethar to read.
"Ah, Harry's parents wanted him to attend the school they did once Harry came of age. It is a condition of their will that the lawyers were instructed on. While I do not have access it was looked over by three different lawyers who said it was legally binding."
"I have to go to school?" Harry's face fell at the news.
"No, not until next year Harry. The courts are clear on this however and the contents of your inheritance comes from you attending this school and coming of age. Until then you have an entire year with your schoolmates and your friends here alone with spending the year with Miss Faethar."
"Don't worry Harry, we're gonna have loads of fun." Faethar said as she reach out and gave his shoulder a squeeze. She then handed the completed forms and stood up. "Is that everything?"
"Yes. Now run along Harry and collect your things. Miss Faethar and I have one last thing to discuss then you can say goodbye to this old man." Tolan said slowly and cracked a grin as Harry raced out with the care taker following.
"Such a lively child." Faethar spoke softly as she glazed at the man in front of her.
"He is… To be honest Miss Faethar, why did you want to adopt him at all?" Faethar smiled and Tolan shivered for a moment even with his Nord blood.
"Oh, you can call it a hunch I had." Standing up Faethar turned to leave. As she walked pout of the office she paused paused a moment in hesitation before looking back at Mr. Jones. "Forgive me… but have we met before?"
"Excuse me?" Mr. Jones asked, the desk hiding his hands as he griped his sword hidden under the desk top lip. "I would think I would recall meeting you miss Faethar."
"... Perhaps I was mistaken. Good day Mr. Jones."
"Good bye madam. Watch out for Harry, he's a good child."
Nodding her head Faethar exited the room closing the door behind her. There was something about that man that made her adventure instincts tingle. And there was something about the way he held himself and the accent…
"No… the Dominion made sure to cover my tracks to get here. " She muttered as she made her way to the main hall.
"Ah miss Faethar my friend! I hope everything went well. Tell me, did you find what you seeked?" Faethar sighed as one of her companions leaned against a railing to the stairwell.
"Ra'Aneshi you were ment to wait outside." Faethar hissed at him. If it wasn't for the magical artifact he was wearing she was sure the Khajiit would have caused a disturbance as there were no beast folks anywhere other than in the stories of the cultures here.
"I was but I got bored. But are we going home soon?" Ra'Aneshi asked as he rubbed his hands together. His face fell as Faethar shook her head.
"Not yet. It seems that this Harry Potter parents have it made he will attend a school they did from age 11 to his late teens."
"Ra'Aneshi is confused. Can't we still take the boy?"
"No… It's better this way. If his mother was the princess then she might have left something useful to her child. Something that is of importance." Faethar paused and looked up for a moment. "He is a chance for us all Ra'Aneshi. A chance for every citizen of Nirn for peace. Only a person who has dragon blood of Auri-El can hold the throne and keep the peace. Those who are not of Auri-El have always lead Nirn to misery and suffering to all when they sit on the ruby throne. If the Aldmeri Dominion is to rule then we need an anchor to the devine and a way to pacify possible disconsent."
"Some say what we are doing madness."
"Too many have died Ra'Aneshi. If Nirn is to be stabilized we need an empire. One where we rule and-" Faethar hesitated. "No… one where those of worth rule with blessings of the gods. Not because of wealth or family, but by virtue and strength born of justice."
"Legends are good and all my friend, but he is just a child. He cannot rule until he has grown up."
"Faethar smiled at looked up and watched as Harry came their way with his bags. "I know. That is what the scrolls have foretold."
"Hmmm. Well, this one will go get the car ready." Nodding his head the in disguise Khajiit walked out of the building. Shaking her head Faethar went to help Harry.
Tolan watched as Faethar drove off with Harry with narrowed eyes. Turning around he walked over to a cabinet and unlocked the door. Reaching in he took for himself an ale to help with the headache that was forming.
"Dam high elf." He cursed as he took a swing. Walking over to his desk he started on the paperwork that needed to be composed. Just when he was comfortable there was a knock at the door. Sighing he hid the bottle. "Enter!"
"Mr. Jones sir!" Theodore nearly was shouting as he entered the room. "What's this about Potter getting adopted!?!"
Mr. Jones groaned. This wasn't going to end well.
