Hi guys I hope you like this chapter. I''m taking a little change and I'm going to let Bonnie be saved instead of having to fight so hard for her happiness. The girl deserves it. I hope you like the slight change in direction. Please comment and let me know.
Sarah sat at the table and made three big bowls of ice cream with fresh fruit. She sat one in front of he brother as he excitedly clapped his hands. His dark curls a mirror of her own and his green eyes the same as their mother. "Reni," Sarah yelled.
"I'm coming," she heard from down the hall.
Damon walked through the back door with grocery bags. He sat the bags down and looked at the counter. "When I left I asked you to make breakfast not dessert," he said.
Sarah's blue eyes shined in his direction with mischief and humor. "Well I did my best with what I had to work with. Next time don't forget to buy food to feed your children," she warned.
"Daddy can you sign this," Reni said as she came into the kitchen. Her long brown hair a nest of kinky curls. She picked up her glasses, so they fully covered her green eyes.
"I was preoccupied," he shot at Sarah, "and what is this Serenity?"
"Bad parenting at its finest she mumbled."
"I got lunch detention for something."
"What?" Sarah and Damon asked at the same time.
"Amber made Toby and Noah break Logan's plane he brought for show and tell, so I had to help him…"
"Please tell me you didn't use magic," Sarah groaned.
"She's always getting away with everything," Serenity said getting upset.
Damon picked up his daughter and sat her in front of him on the counter. "Ren you know if you get caught using magic something more serious then detention can happen," he explained.
"No one saw me, I promise. I just called her a bad name, after I fixed his plane. His plane was in the trash when I fixed it. I promise no one saw."
Damon kissed her forehead. "I know you love helping your friends, but next time try it without magic."
"What's the point of having power to help people if I can't use it?" she pouted.
"You don't know what you're doing, and you'll kill someone, most likely yourself," Sarah yelled.
"Not helping," Damon said turning to her. "Ren, what mom and Shelia teach you is to protect you, not for personal gain. Your magic is important, and it comes from nature. Once you lose it, its gone. You need to protect you magic by using it right."
"Right," DJ echoed from behind him.
"Now get your stuff ready so I can get you two on the bus."
"We're ready," Sarah insisted
"Homework done?"
"Yes," the girls agreed
"Is it in your bookbag," he said looking at Serenity.
"I'll be right back," the younger girl said racing up the steps.
"Did you remember your gym clothes?"
"They need to be washed," Sarah smiled.
"Already taken care of," Damon said getting them from the laundry bag.
"Can't you just right me a note again?" Sarah begged.
"No and no trips to the nurse. I'm not getting you unless you break a leg," he warned.
"Urgh," she groaned.
Damon picked up DJ and walked Sarah to the door. "Ren get down here now," Damon yelled.
"Bye daddy," Sarah said opening the door.
"Bye and don't do what I know you're thinking about doing," he said with a knowing smile.
"Wouldn't dream of it," she smiled.
"Bye daddy," Serenity said as she gave him and DJ a kiss.
Damon and DJ walked slowly up the stairs to the master bedroom. "Mommy," DJ said running to the bed.
Bonnie slowly rolled over and smiled at her son and husband. "Where are the girls?" Bonnie asked placing a hand on her growing belly.
"They're off to school already," Damon said placing a tray of food beside her.
"Why didn't you wake me up?" Bonnie whined.
"You and Lexi were on the phone all night doing the name thing again. It's taken a lot of magic for you to do this for her and Stefan. You need all the rest you can get," Damon said in a commending tone.
Bonnie reached over and caressed his face. He loved the way her eyes glowed with love and warmth whenever she looked at him.
Damon downed his fourth drink and contemplated what he was doing. He was in his mancave, hiding in plan sight. He knew the only way to defuse Elena was to come clean. He needed to tell Bonnie and Stefan what he'd done. He was slowly realizing those premonitions he had would never come into fruition. He'd never get to build a family with Bonnie, she'd never be his wife. He royally screwed himself over.
As much as Damon tried to convince himself that those memories changed nothing between he and Bonnie, his gut was doubtful. He always wondered if Bonnie would have confessed her love to Stefan, if he never stole that memory from her. It was clear she felt more for Stefan after that moment, but was it really love?
Damon grimaced. He was torturing himself. Bonnie was his life and there was no one in this or any other world that could change that fact. He'd given her his all, and she'd returned the favor. This was their fairytale and he was going to be damned if he wouldn't end up happily ever after with the mother of his child. Damon threw the glass, frustrated with warring with his doubt.
Bonnie had looked all over town for Damon. It was passed the designated time for his return and no one had heard from him. She tried his cell and again it went straight to voicemail. She heard the front door open and it was Stefan and Lexi. "Any sign of him?" Lexi asked.
"Nothing."
"I'm sure he's just trying to decompress. Damon's not known for his patience."
"I think he killed her and is trying to hide the body," Lexi said.
"I wish. She's been calling Caroline nonstop. Lucy and Abbie are getting things together for her plan, but they don't know if this will work," Bonnie added.
"They did patch the divide that let everyone move freely. There is the slight chance we're stuck with her," Lexi said as she chewed on her lip.
"Then she'll have to except things as they are or leave," Stefan smirked as he kissed Lexi.
BOOM!
"Is someone in here?" Lexi asked.
"No," Bonnie said.
"I'll go check it out," Lexi said as she sped to the basement. She met eyes with Damon. "What are you doing down here?"
"Wallowing in self-pity," Damon replied.
"It went that bad," Lexi frowned.
"Worse."
Lexi sighed. "Come on up Bonnie's worried about you," She pressed.
"I take it Stefan's up there too?" he frowned.
"Yep."
Damon ran a shaky hand through his hair. He had to use the only power he had, at the moment, and that was the truth. Damon needed to make Bonnie understand that he did what he did as a young stupid kid. However, this was his worse nightmare come to life.
Bonnie, Lexi, and Stefan waited for Damon to return from upstairs. Bonnie didn't like the empty look in his eyes as he walked pass her. Damon returned with Stefan's old withered diary. He sat it beside him on the coffee table. "Is that mine?" Stefan asked grabbing it.
Damon looked up at Bonnie and she could feel his anguish. She reached out and gently stroked his knee instantly providing comfort. "I am sorry for what I did to you two. I was young, stupid, and jealous. I didn't mean for things to go as far as they did."
"Just tell us what happened. Keeping it in is causing you too much pain," Bonnie said.
"Stefan was your first, and me and Elena got Luca to spell you two to forget," Damon said. He looked up to see Stefan and Bonnie glance at each other. Then they started to laugh uncontrollably. Damon's anger bubbled. "This isn't a joke. You two were on the verge of confessing your feelings for each other. I took that from you, how is this funny?"
"It's just… such a Damon thing to do. It's so you," Stefan tried to explain. "What else can we expect."
"I'm just pleasantly un-surprised," Bonnie laughed.
Damon was stunned by the response he received. He knew that nothing could change Bonnie's feelings for him, but he was unnerved by how nonchalant the pair was acting. He looked to Lexi. "Tell me I'm not the only one that gets that this is major?"
Lexi chewed on the inside of her cheek and avoided his gaze. "To be honest this isn't the worst thing you could have done. If they want to forgive you why question it?"
"Fine," Damon said and stomped up the stairs to the master bedroom.
Damon lay in bed studying the tile paneling above him. Bonnie entered the room and gingerly lay beside him. She lay on her side looking him over.
"You remember the day we met?" Bonnie asked.
Damon turned and faced her. "When I kicked you in the side?" he chuckled.
Bonnie caressed his hair out of his eyes. "Yep," she laughed. "Seven-year-old me was mesmerized by your eyes. They froze me in place." She slowly traced the side of his face. "I didn't know then how infuriating you were, headstrong, controlling, selfish, childish,"-
-"Not making me feel better," he noted.
"Kind, intelligent, caring, funny, the love of my life. Even if someone else was my first you'll always be the last and greatest love of my life. My heart belonged to you from the beginning you just couldn't see it."
"I saw the change Bon," he said as he grabbed he hand. He skimmed the delicate digits with his lips. "I could feel it in my being. And I know the only thing to get Elena to back off is to take this away. You both have to reclaim that memory," he said studying her green eyes.
"I'll work on it. But promise me something."
"What?"
"When all of this is over we'll never look back, we'll only look forward," Bonnie whispered.
"Always and forever," he promised.
Stefan sat and read over the journal entry. It was very reminiscent of his high school days, however he felt no connect to the words written. Stefan pounder briefly if his feelings for Bonnie would have grown, but that poised an existential question. Could one change fate or destiny? Would Damon and Bonnie manage to end up together in any scenario?
Lexi lay her head on his shoulder and he was sure this moment had purpose. Their love had meaning. "I wish I could prove to Damon that he didn't do anything wrong this time."
"You can't wash away guilt. He will have to deal with it on his own. It's his cross to bear," Lexi said making perfect sense as she often did.
Rudy walked up the familiar path to the huge white house. He knocked three times before the doors opened. The door opened, and he welcomed himself in side. He was greeted by five questioning set of eyes. He poured himself a drink. He raised his glass to his comrades. "Have you made any progress Grayson?" Rudy asked.
"I have the holding cell ready and the serum prepared," he informed the group.
"Were you able to get Elena's whereabouts from Bonnie?"
"She was unsure, but I think Damon knows and it needs to be dealt with," he said meeting eyes with Giuseppe.
"If he knows I'll have her here as soon as possible."
"You're sure about all of this Grayson? I know Miranda wouldn't want to put Elena in harms way."
"We've all witness that she's become one of those monsters. There's only one thing to do. For the greater good," Grayson agreed. "If any harm comes to Bonnie or Sarah the town will be at the mercy of those creatures."
"So, it's settled. We stop at nothing to protect the asset," Rudy announced. He looked around at everyone and they each gave a nod of agreement.
