Holly definitely did have the flu. By the time Gail had driven her back to Rachel's place, Holly was feeling miserable. Holly had to quickly dash into the house, and made it to the bathroom just in time before being sick.

Gail made her way into the house after calling Oliver to let him know that she wasn't going to be able to come back that afternoon because she was taking care of a sick family member. Oliver couldn't help but question which family member she was actually willing to help, and then couldn't help but tease her more when she admitted it was Holly. Let's just say the phone call ended with her simply hanging up.

As she let herself into the house, she couldn't help but wonder if Rachel would approve of her being there. They had met briefly when Holly and Gail were first dating, but never really got to know each other much. But now wasn't the time to worry about it. She would just have to ask for forgiveness later if it doesn't go well. All she knew was that she wasn't going to leave Holly the way she was. She took off her coat and hung it on the rack in the front foyer before making her way into the bathroom.

"No, no, go away. You can't be here," Holly said between heaves.

"Why not?" Gail said as she searched the cupboard for a facecloth.

"I don't want you to get this."

"Well, it's too late for that. We just spent the last thirty minutes together. If I get sick, I get sick," she said as she ran some cold water over the cloth.

"But I don't want you to see me like this either," Holly cried before heaving again into the toilet.

"I'm an officer, Holly. I've seen worse. Plus, I actually like you and don't mind helping you. These other people are a totally different story," Gail said as she came up behind Holly and rubbed her back gently. She passed Holly the wet face cloth.

"Thank you" Holly said meekly before wiping her face.

"Are you ready to move or do you want to stay here for a bit longer?" Gail asked in the most caring tone Holly had ever heard.

"Um…can we just sit here for a moment?"

"Of course we can. Here is a towel I found in the closet. You can wrap it around yourself. I will go and get you something to drink. I will be right back," she said, leaning over and kissing Holly on her forehead before turning and walking out of the bathroom.

Gail was only gone a few minutes. She returned to see Holly leaning against the cupboard, the towel wrapped around her shoulders, her eyes closed. "Hey sweetie, I have some water for you, and a couple of pills you should take," she said, kneeling in front of the doctor.

Holly slowly opened her eyes. She smiled weakly as she accepted the water and took a sip. "I hate being sick," she said as she handed the cup back to Gail.

"I don't think anyone likes being sick, honey," Gail smiled as she placed the cup on the counter and settled down in front of her.

Holly simply pouted.

They stayed there for a while longer. Gail gently held Holly's hand in her own and made comforting circles on Holly's palm with her thumb. Holly wasn't sick again, but needed to regain some of her composure before moving to a more comfortable spot. "Okay, I think I am ready to move," she said, opening her eyes again.

"Okay, okay, that's great!" Gail said, jumping up from her spot. "Let me help you," she said, reaching out and holding Holly's arm, easing her off the ground. "Where do you want to go?"

"Can you just take me to my room?"

"Of course, of course. You just tell me where to turn," Gail smiled as she led Holly out of the bathroom.

Once in the room, Gail helped Holly slip into some pajamas and into bed. This wasn't exactly how Gail pictured being back in Holly's bedroom, but she was glad she could be there to help her. "You get some rest. I've put some water right here for you. There is a trash can right here on the floor if you think you will be sick again. I'm just going to run out and get you some soda crackers and ginger ale since I couldn't find any in the cupboards. I will be right back," she said, kissing Holly's forehead once more.

"You don't have to," Holly said quietly.

"That's not the point," Gail smiled. "I'll be right back." And with that, Gail left Holly tucked into her bed, sleep quickly overcoming her.

Gail was quick. She used Holly's keys to get in and out of the house. She knew exactly what she needed at the store and where to find it. She was quite pleased with herself that she was gone for less than thirty minutes. She placed the food in the kitchen before quietly sneaking upstairs to check in on Holly.

She silently walked up to the bed. She was relieved to see that Holly was fast asleep. She turned and made her way back downstairs and into the kitchen.

She had just finished boiling up some chicken noodle soup when Rachel walked in.

"Hey, Gail," Rachel said as she plopped her purse down on one of the kitchen chairs. "It's nice to see you again. Where's Holly?"

"Oh, hi Rachel," Gail smiled as she turned, "Um, Holly is upstairs in bed. She's got the flu," Gail said.

"Oh no, is she really sick?"

"Thanks. Um…well, she's slept all afternoon after throwing up everything she ate today," Gail shrugged.

"That's disgusting. I probably didn't need to know that," Rachel joked.

"Sorry," Gail laughed. "I just made some chicken noodle soup to take up to her, did you want a bowl? There's plenty."

"It smells delicious. I don't mind if I do," Rachel said, grabbing a couple bowls from the cupboard. "Do you want one?" she said, holding up a bowl.

"No, I'm good. Thanks though," she said, accepting one bowl from Rachel and putting a few scoops of the soup into it for Holly. "Um, I'm just going to take this up," she said before turning to head back up the stairs. She paused for a moment and turned to look at Rachel. "I hope it is okay that I am here."

Rachel smiled a sweet smile. "Gail, of course it is okay. Now go get some soup into that woman," she laughed. Gail smiled back in return before turning and heading up the stairs.

She quietly entered the room, and placed the bowl down on the bedside table. She gently sat down on the edge of the bed, and placed her hand on Holly to wake her up. "Hey sweetie. It's time to get up. You need to eat a little something."

Holly grunted and shifted slightly. Slowly her eyes opened. A small smile spread across her face when she saw Gail sitting there. "Hi," she said softly.

"Hi," Gail said in return. "Feeling any better?"

"No," Holly pouted.

"Okay, well, sit up and have some soup. That will help you start to feel better."

Holly did exactly as Gail asked and actually ate more soup than Gail had expected. Holly laid back down when she was finished and Gail went and got a cold cloth from the bathroom. She sat on the edge of the bed and gently placed the cloth on her forehead. She sat there for a while until Holly fully fell asleep before making her way back downstairs.

"She's sleeping again. I gave her some more tylenol. I don't imagine she will be up much today, so I'm going to head out," Gail said to Rachel who was sitting at the kitchen table, reading a book, the empty soup bowl in front of her.

"You don't have to go just because I came home. You are more than welcome to stay."

"No, I should go. I've got to head back to the precinct anyways. I appreciate your offer, but I don't want to overstay my welcome either. But please feel free to call me if you need anything."

"Okay, if you insist, but it was really nice seeing you again Gail. I'm happy you and Holly decided to give it another go. She really adores you."

Gail couldn't help but blush. "I adore her too."

"And I know that we never really got to know each other much last time, but perhaps we can change that."

"I'd like that," Gail smiled, and with that, Gail grabbed her coat and headed out the door and back to the precinct to get her things before calling it a night.

"Hey, Gail. How's Holly feeling?" Oliver asked as she made her way to the locker room.

"Oh, well, she's got a pretty bad case of the flu," she shrugged. "Thanks for letting me take the afternoon off," she said as she continued to walk to get her things.

"No problem. It was pretty quiet here," he called after her. "Your mother did stop by though looking for you."

Gail stopped dead in her tracks and swiveled to look at Oliver. "What did you tell her?"

"I just said you were looking after Holly," he shrugged. "Is that a problem?"

"Um…well…" just then Gail's phone began to ring. She pulled it out of her pocket and looked at the caller ID. "Speak of the devil…Hello Mom…" Gail answered.

"Who is Holly and why does she need looking after?" Elaine questioned.

"She's just a colleague. She came down with the flu here at work and needed someone to drive her home. That's all," Gail said as she rolled her eyes. She continued walking towards the locker room, hoping to seek some privacy there.

"Since when do you care about your colleagues? Oliver said you were looking after her, not just dropping her off."

"Well, she is a friend too, Mother. I couldn't just leave her without knowing she was okay. She's pretty sick," Gail tried to justify. "Why are you calling anyways, Mother?"

"I just wanted to remind you about our family dinner this Sunday," Elaine said as a matter of fact.

"That's still a week away, Mom. Plus, I'm not twelve anymore. I can remember these things."

"Oh, that's funny considering you have missed the last four family dinners."

"Well, I can't help it if I am called out, plus, Holly might still be sick and I might have to help her, so no promises this time either."

"So Holly is more than just a colleague that you drove home?"

"I never said that. Stop putting words in my mouth."

"Darling, you forget that not only am I your mother, I am also the superintendent. I didn't get here simply by my good looks."

"Yuck mom."

"Well if this Holly is feeling better, you should bring her too. I expect to see you on Sunday." And with that, Elaine hung up the phone.

"Great" Gail said to no one in particular as she flopped down on the bench.
