The plan is started but things are already going awry and Azrael pays another visit to Michael.

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Chloe sat in her car staring at the villa before her. When she had shown the address to Lucifer, he had immediately recognized it as one of his own properties. He had looked at her just as confused as to why Michael would be staying on Earth but admitted that it made sense to him why Michael would choose one of Lucifer's own properties. He had even chosen the one that Lucifer hardly ever used and had even thought about selling at one point. It was a smart choice all things considered.

"This is stupid." Maze grumbled from her spot in the passenger seat.

Chloe sighed. "Yes, it probably is."

Lucifer had insisted that if she was going to visit Michael then she needed back up. He had agreed that it would be best for her to appear to go alone in the initial stages as Michael did seem to be warming up to her. Chloe had agreed as long as Maze stayed by the car unless she needed her. She knew it would be suicide for her to go completely alone. After all, there was still so very little they actually knew about the Michael of today other than his desire to ruin Lucifer's life. They had no idea of the lengths he would actually go. Chloe herself did not think Michael would truly harm her at this point but wanted to ease Lucifer's mind.

"Then why are you doing it?"

Chloe looked at the demon next to her. "Because if there is anything to be salvaged, they deserve the right to try."

Maze grumbled more under her breath but Chloe just shook her head getting out of the car. Maze did as well settling herself upon the hood. Chloe glared at her and only received an eye roll and shrug in return.

Chloe sighed mildly annoyed. Really she should not be surprised by now. "Remember, stay put unless I call you, okay."

Maze waved her off with another grumble. Chloe took another deep breath before making her way to the front door. Her pulse raced and her hands felt clammy from nerves.

"Come on, Decker. You are confident and strong. He can smell fear so buck up." She mumbled under her breath before raising a hand to knock.

"I can smell fear, huh?"

Chloe jumped swinging around to find Michael chuckling merrily at her. She glared at him, only making him smirk, as she got her breathing back under control.

"You enjoy doing that, don't you?"

"What? Making you jump?" Michael stepped closer leaning into her space. "Of course." He winked at her.

Okay, what was happening here? Just the other night Michael was a grump and rough around the edges. Today he seemed playful, too playful if the jitteriness of her insides was anything to go by, but no sense of wrongness cropped up. Michael stepped back keeping his smirk in place motioning toward the door.

"Coming in?" He said opening and walking through himself. The door remained open for her.

Get a grip, Decker. Chloe scolded herself. She resolutely ignored the butterflies in her stomach from his being in such close proximity.

Chloe looked around the space as she shut the door behind her. It was sparsely decorated, though Michael had only been here a few days, maybe a couple weeks at the most, and Chloe honestly didn't see him as being the decorating type. She spotted a book resting on the center table in front of the couch. Perhaps he was reading before she came.

"I only have water or milk at the moment."

Chloe followed his voice around the corner to the kitchen. She smiled to find him waiting for her response. "Water, please." Michael filled a glass for her. She chuckled softly when he handed it to her. "Look at you, being the perfect host."

"I do have manners, Chloe." Michael huffed, turning to get something for himself.

Chloe took him in while he did. Michael wore his normal slacks and turtle neck, a dark brown this time, which fit him remarkably well. He obviously preferred the more comfortable 'smart' look. He was also barefoot. Chloe would not admit that it did something for her.

Michael settled across the bar from her leaning on his elbows. "What can I do for you, Chloe?"

The way he was looking at her. Chloe shivered and drank some of the water he gave her to wet her suddenly parched throat. She had the feeling he was playing with her. Well, two could play that game. Maybe he needed a little reminder. Chloe leaned forward making sure to make eye contact with him.

"I'm just checking in to see if you had thought about my offer." She dipped her voice to an almost teasing manner.

Michael smiled a smile that told her he knew exactly what she was doing. He met her challenge head on. "Which offer would that be?"

His voice held a timber to it that made shivers race along her spine. This game was going to backfire on her but she was determined not to let him win.

"My invitation to come along on cases." She took a chance and traced a finger along his wrist. "Have you decided?"

His eyelashes fluttered and his hand twitched under hers. Chloe smiled coyly. Michael visibly swallowed.

"You are playing a dangerous game, Chloe."

Chloe paused. Her eyes observed him closely. His features were tensed and restrained. Oh my. The playfulness was gone replaced with something dark and enticing that drew her in like a moth to a flame. Suddenly, it was gone, and his mask was firmly back in place. Chloe felt it before her eyes registered the change. Michael pulled away from her with a calculated look.

"I should let you know that I know Mazikeen is outside. What are you up to?"

Chloe shivered visibly and shook her head to clear it. "I'm not…"

"Please." Michael scoffed at her and looked at her expectantly. "Come on now, Chloe."

"You have worse trust issues than Lucifer does."

Michael narrowed his eyes. Heat and anger flashed behind them. "I have my reasons."

Chloe sighed. She really had come to see if he had given her offer any thought. "Look, we both know you can't lie to me. Have you thought about it or not?"

Michael moved around the bar toward her moving like a predator stalking its prey. Chloe braced herself for anything. Michael suddenly looked very dangerous and he wasn't lying about it either.

"That is another thing. How do you do it?" He continued toward her forcing Chloe to step backwards. This was going downhill fast but she wouldn't call Maze; not yet. "It is rather annoying. Perhaps I should get rid of you. Two birds, one stone." Michael had her pinned against the wall now.

Chloe met his cold, calculated stare with one of her own. She knew he was bluffing; knew it down to her very bones. "Do it then." She dared.

Hands slammed onto the wall beside her head making her jump with a sharp gasp. He was trying to scare her on purpose. But why?

It was like he wanted us to hate him.

"I'm not afraid of you." She said firmly not breaking eye contact with him.

Michael looked her up and down before smirking. "You're right. You're not afraid of me but you are afraid of what I do to you." He leaned closer to whisper darkly in her ear. "I could really hurt Lucifer. Right here. Right now."

Michael lowered a hand along her side to rest on her hip. Chloe shivered and felt heat settle in her core despite herself. Her mind raced. Michael wasn't lying. This would be the perfect way to hurt Lucifer. Chloe focused on what her body was telling her other than the obvious signs of arousal coursing through her as the angel ran his nose along her jawline breathing her in.

Michael was lying; just not with his words. His body screamed anger and yet…some puzzle pieces clicked into place. Michael didn't want Lucifer angry because Michael wasn't angry.

Chloe shivered as Michael gently kissed behind her ear. Oh, he had some serious seductive skills when he put his mind to it, not to mention smelled delightful. His scent was very similar to Lucifer yet very unique at the same time. If she could just mix those two smells…No, she had to focus.

"What did he do to hurt you?" She whispered hurriedly.

Michael jerked from her as though she had burned him. He stumbled back a few steps staring at her with something close to fear and pain. Chloe breathed deeply getting her body back under control watching him carefully.

Michael's breaths were fast; too fast. Chloe stepped forward suddenly feeling concerned for him. Michael stepped away.

"You're not angry. You're hurt." She had been right. Fight or flight. Michael had backed away but he had, and would, ultimately chose fight.

"Get out." Michael growled through gritted teeth.

Chloe knew better than to push further than she already had. Michael had reached his breaking point. If she pushed further, he would hurt her, emotionally, physically, maybe both. He obviously had no true wish to hurt her or he would have already; that Chloe was certain. Slowly, as to not startle the archangel in front of her, Chloe reached into her pocket to pull out a phone. Michael narrowed his eyes almost daring her to call Maze. Chloe shook her head moving to lay it on the small table sitting against the wall between them. Michael looked at her no less upset but curious.

"It is already activated and programed. My number is in the contacts." Chloe stepped away toward the door. Michael watched her wearily. It felt odd to see something so powerful be so weary of her. "I'll text you the next case I have. You can decide if you come or not."

Chloe was not stupid enough to mention that the phone had actually been Lucifer's idea. He had even been the one to pick it out and activate it. Chloe did not even have to ask. At least Lucifer was going to try. She had been hopeful they could get Michael on board but that hope had dimmed with this recent display. Michael was hurt deeply; so deep he ran from it and blocked it out instead of facing it head on. What could Lucifer possibly have done to hurt his twin this bad?

Maybe Chloe should leave it be now. She had been right to assume Michael would be unpredictable in how he would react to things. Chloe had given him a source of contact. It was now his choice whether he came to them or not. Chloe could only hope she had not screwed everything up.

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

"It's not funny, Azrael."

Michael fussed at his sister but she appeared to not hear him as she chuckled. He rolled his eyes turning his attention to the phone resting on the side table beside the couch. It had been almost twenty four hours since Chloe had left it with him. No texts had come through, not that he was honestly expecting any. He would be surprised if she actually held up to her word.

She had been frightened when she left and for good reason. Michael had been actively trying to scare her to get her to leave him alone. She invoked feelings in him he wasn't fond of. He hated how she made him feel; all warm and liked. He felt joy from teasing her and wanted to keep her eyes on him. If that irritated his brother even better; Michael would have his attention too. And wasn't that the irony of it all?

He had made the mistake of getting too close to her once again. The little miracle just kept drawing him in. The closer he got to her, the harder it was for him to back away. Michael had lost a bit of his control when she had whispered to him, but the feel of her breath against his ear had been completely drowned out by her words.

What did he do to hurt you?

Michael admittedly had reacted badly. There was no way she could have known and yet…Chloe Decker scared him. Michael could admit it to himself. No one had ever seen through him like she did. He had hid everything so well behind his walls of anger and jealousy that no one questioned it; except her. Chloe had been the only one to see to the hurt and the pain.

"But it is, Michael." Azrael smiled at him amused bringing his attention back to her. She sat upon the center table in her death robes. Azrael really had come straight off the job. "You are all nervous because of one human. I never thought I'd see the day."

Michael mock glared. "Don't you have a job to be doing? What are you bothering me for?"

"The girls will call me if anything big comes up that they can't handle." Azrael watched him the smile staying on her face. "I wanted to check on you. See how things were going."

"Swimmingly." He drawled out sarcastically making her giggle at him some more. Really? This was what he had to put up with?

"It can't be that bad."

"It is that bad." Michael groused. "She is going to keep digging. I might have scared her off for now but she has proven to be very tenacious. It won't be long before she figures things out and I can't have that." He felt his pulse speed up at the very thought. His stomach twisted uncomfortably.

Azrael sobered up giving him a soft look. "Would that really be so bad?"

Michael looked disbelieving at his little sister. She knew. She was the only one that knew because she was the only one that had known where to find him when everything fell apart. She had been the one that put him back together as skewed as that was. Michael had tried alienating her too but of course his spirited little sister just kept coming back. "No one can know, Rae."

"Michael…"

"No one!" He snapped angrily to hide the fear.

Azrael huffed angrily right back at him. "Well if no one ever knows then how can anything change? What if Lucifer…"

"Don't."

"He might…"

Michael stood sharply quickly moving away from his sister and into the kitchen. He had no desire to hear 'what ifs' and 'maybes'. They didn't exist. Lucifer had made that very plain.

"Michael…" Of course Rae had followed him. "You can't keep doing this. Either you need to talk to him, actually talk to him, not fight, or let him go."

Let him go? No, he couldn't do that. He had been forced to long ago and looked what it did to him then. Perhaps Rae had a point though. Look what it did do to him. Michael looked down at slightly shaking hands. All this and all he wanted was his brother; a brother that had no more use for him. Michael squeezed his eyes shut and his hands into fists.

"You know, hurting Lucifer, will only hurt Chloe as well."

Hurt Chloe? No, he didn't want to do that. None of this was Chloe's fault. Sure, she was convenient and the best tool he had to hurt his twin and yet Michael found he hesitated more and more with her. Bitterly, he knew that if he could take her away from Lucifer he would. That wasn't going to happen though. Sure, he could force her but that wouldn't get him anywhere near what he actually wanted.

"The more I think about it, I have to wonder about Chloe."

Michael turned to his sister confused. "What do you mean?"

Azrael shrugged. "There just seems to me that there is more to her than we actually know."

"What more is there?" Michael scoffed. "She's one of Father's miracles. One he made for Lucifer."

"Or so we all think." Azrael looked contemplative. "It does seem obvious. The timing and the fact that she is immune to his powers, they lead to her being made for him. Then there is you."

"Me?" What was she trying to get at?

"Yes, you. She can see through you, Michael, in ways no one else can. Any lie you have, be it with words, actions, emotions, what have you, she can see it for what it truly is."

"And that is?"

"Fear."

Michael scoffed a laugh. "You can't be serious."

Azrael eyed him intently. "Your powers deal with fear. What if instead of being immune to your powers, like she is with Lucifer, she can use yours against you?"

Michael stared at her as though she was insane. That was ridiculous. There was no way…

You're not angry. You're hurt.

Chloe had voiced the very thing he had wanted no one to know. The very thing he had been trying to scare her away from. Could she really use his own power against him? No, it was a fluke.

"Michael, you are so afraid of anyone finding out the truth, I bet, if anyone else could use your power, and asked you what your true fear was, that would be it."

Before Michael could say anything in response, the phone on the side table vibrated and let off a soft ding. They both turned to look at it; Azrael with a soft smile, Michael like he felt it could reach out and bite him. Azrael looked at him expectedly.

"What are you waiting for?"

Michael grumbled at her moving closer to the phone eyeing it with suspicion. It vibrated and dinged again. Another message. He slowly picked the phone up, swiping across the screen to unlock it. Sure enough, there were two messages from Chloe. One saying there was a case. The other gave him the address. Michael turned to Azrael as though completely unsure. He had honestly not expected anything and here it was. Despite him trying to and succeeding in scaring her, Chloe was reaching out, just like she said she would.

"Would it really be so bad, to give things a chance?" Azrael asked him softly understanding in her tone.

Another soft ding and the phone vibrated in his hand making him startle. Michael looked down to read the newest text.

-Will you come?

Michael stared at the wording. The exact phrase rang through his mind from many, many years ago.

Will you come?

Where to?

Come with me and find out.

The words had been said with eagerness and amusement at the time; every time honestly, but one memory hit Michael harder than the rest. Lucifer had wanted to show off his stars and had taken him to the top of a mountain where the sky was clear and unobscured. There had been one spot left empty; one spot that Lucifer had…

Michael shook his head vehemently as sharp pain settled in his chest. After a breath, he reopened his eyes to once again take in the words of the text.

-Will you come?

It was Lucifer reaching out, of that he was sure. Lucifer was reaching for him again. Michael swallowed. Azrael rested her head against his bicep in a silent show of support.

"What will you do?" She asked softly.

Michael was sure he would regret doing this, and yet, he couldn't let go.

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Mikael groaned in slight irritation. Why were they climbing? They had wings for crying out loud. Couldn't they just fly? When he had grumbled his question toward his brother the other had simply laughed.

"Seriously, Mike, a little climbing is good for you."

"Speak for yourself, Sam." Mikael grumbled but continue to steadily climb after his twin. Just what was so important?

They finally reached the top. Mikael huffed a bit shifting the dark wings on his back. Samael was looking at him with excitement clear on his face. The angel was almost bouncing on his feet while his white wings vibrated brilliantly behind him. Mikael rolled his eyes good naturedly as he stepped closer to his mirror image.

"What has you so excited?"

Samael looked up quickly before continuing to grin at him. "Look."

Mikael chuckled before looking up to appease his twin. He had thought it had been getting brighter as they climbed but he had not been expecting the brightness that shined forth above him. Little lights twinkled brightly in various shapes and patterns. Mikael blinked rapidly.

"Did you…"

"Yep. All me." His twin beamed at him.

Mikael chuckled. "Don't be so proud, Sam. You'll get in trouble."

Samael waved him off. "Father hasn't said anything yet."

Mikael shook his head. True, Father never did say much to Samael even when he technically should be in trouble; like now. It got irritating but Samael often saved his hide so he tried not to think anything of it.

His attention was grabbed by a small ball of light as it formed in his brother's hands. Mikael watched avidly. Sure he knew his twin could gather up energy for light but he had never seen it. He stared at Samael in surprise when he held it out to him.

"What?"

Samael smiled softly. "Take it. It won't hurt you."

Mikael swallowed nervously letting Samael rest the small light in his hands. He stared at it in wonder watching the different swirls of colors dance through it.

"What do you want me to do with it?" He asked looking up at his twin confused.

"Throw it."

"Throw it?"

"Yep." Samael nodded before pointing up. "See that blank space there?" He waited for Mikael to nod before continuing. "Think of anything you like. Aim there and throw as hard as you can."

Mikael looked at the other like he was crazy. "This is how you did all this? You just threw random balls of light into the sky?"

Samael shrugged. "Best way to get random patterns. Course not all is random, obviously, that's why I told you to think of something." The white winged angel waved his hands at him impatiently. "Go on already."

With a deep breath in, Mikael closed his eyes to imagine the first thing that came to mind, opened them, and then threw the light in the direction Samael had directed him to. The light disappeared for a moment, Mikael had a brief moment to wonder if he had done something wrong, before it erupted into multiple little sparks that danced in swirls and circles before settling into place. He watched entranced by the display.

"See not so hard." Samael was smiling at him when Mikael looked back at him. He looked up then back to Mikael with a tender expression. "You sap."

Mikael blushed but settled into the wing that wrapped around his own. Together they watched the newly made stars, the Twins, twinkle merrily above them.
