To onedivinemisfit, even though it's only been about a month, it feels like forever since I last updated this story. (In the mean time, I realize that it's going to be about double the length in chapter count than what I'd thought when I'd first begun writing it. I guess, we're in for the long haul.) I hope that you enjoy this chapter. I think it's a bit longer than normal, but I can't quite tell. And the roles are somewhat reversed! This time, Shirayuki's full of the questions. I hope that you love this chapter too, and that it puts a smile on your face as well. Have a very lovely day!

It's one of those quiet days, the kind where her grandparents are napping, instead of moving much, a kind of day that leaves her restless as if she's still charged up on kitten energy, though she's long since grown past the hustle and bustle that were a steady part of her kitten years.

It's only now that she realizes that perhaps denying him his request, might keep her new kitty friend from visiting today, but when the thought comes, she brushes it off, with the idea of him telling her that he'll be seeing her. Either that meant he figured, she'd leave the quiet comforts of her home or it meant that he'd be visiting again. Shirayuki's positive that it means he'll be visiting again; she doubts that he considers alley life as a much better alternative to apartment life.

It's after finally laying down in front of her window and trying to practice stillness there, as if she is absorbing all of the calm of her home, that she spots him, sauntering out of the same alley as always, and it occurs to her, that perhaps not all alley cats are so used to routine. Obi lives and breathes it, as if it's as much a part of him as his four paws.

"Obi?" She calls before he's even halfway towards her, because today is just too quiet, and she's restless.

"Miss?" He's already half towards her, and she realizes for a moment that he's never called her by her name or anything else really. Does he even still remember it?

"Miss?" She repeats, as if trying to recall hearing such a cute nickname before, but it's still not her name, and she wonders. "Do you remember my name?"

"I do." He answers, all kitty swagger melting into sudden stillness outside her window, as if he isn't used to being just a shadow outside, as if he should still be moving.

"Why don't you say it?" She tries instead, because she isn't going to call him out by accusing him of only pretending to remember her name.

"Names are interesting things." He lays down, and all of his fur almost looks soft to the touch, "On the street, we seldom go by them." His golden eyes look more amused than serious right now.

"But I'm not from the street." Shirayuki corrects as she lays back down, trying to be as relaxed and calm as he looks.

"I know that too." He's still amused, "You're not an alley cat. You live with your grandparents. We are different." It's like a little reminder, and yet like an explanation for why he won't call her, "Shirayuki."

"If I were an alley cat, would you call me by my name?" It's like a switch has been flipped, and she's wishing that she knew what her name would sound like, spoken by his voice.

"Who knows?" He's all lazy, cat grin, and she wonders for a moment, if his life is lonely out there. He never travels with anybody that she sees, and he clearly does not have a human family.

"Okay, Obi." She tries to not let him see just how curious his lack of answers make her, and how coupled with the quiet of today, a sort of agitation pops up, like an annoying itch, just the desire to know what he won't tell her.

"But I really can't stay." He's all giddy, as if he can read her curiosity at his lack of answer, and he's more amused and happy at seeing it than she feels he should be.

"'Bye." Shirayuki sighs; he never stays long, and already she's wishing that today wasn't so quiet, and her newfound friend would talk to her more, maybe admit to whatever his life is like, just as she's told him of hers.
