Two weeks before the end of the term, the sky lightened suddenly to a dazzling opaline white and the muddy grounds were revealed one morning covered in glittering frost. Inside the castle, there was a buzz of Christmas in the air. Professor flitwick, had already decorated his classroom with shimmering lights that turned out to be real, fluttering fairies. The students were all happily discussing their plans for the holidays.
To everyone's delight, there was to be a Hogsmeade trip on the very last weekend of the term.
Harry saw Fred and George were turned away hiding something.
Harry made it disappear and reappear in his hands. Harry hid himself in the shadows as he looked at it.
He realized it was a map of Hogwarts that tells what everyone is doing.
Harry teleported it to his trunk's bedroom compartment.
On Christmas morning, Harry was woken by Draco throwing his pillow at him.
Harry looked through the semi-darkness to the foot of his bed, where a small heap of Presents had appeared.
Mrs. Weasley had sent him a emerald sweater with a Slytherin snake knitted on the front; also a dozen home baked mince pies, some Christmas cake, and a box of nut brittle. As he moved all these things aside, he saw a long, thin package lying underneath.
"What's that?" Said Draco looking over.
"Dunno . . . " said Harry.
He ripped the parcel open and gasped as a Magnificent gleaming broom rolled out onto his bedspread. Draco jumped off his bed for a closer look.
"I don't believe it," he said.
It was a Firebolt. It's handle glittered as he picked it up. He could feel it vibrating and let go; it hung in midair, unsupported, at exactly the right height for him the to mount it. His eyes moved from the golden registration number at the top of the handle, right down to the perfectly smooth, streamlined birch twigs that made up the tail.
Harry put it in his trunk in the office compartment.
At lunchtime when they went down to the Great Hall, to find that the House Tables had been moved against the walls again, and that a single table, set for twelve, stood in the middle of the room. Professors Dumbeldore, McGonagall, Snape,Sprout, and Flitwick were there, along with Filch, the caretaker, who had taken off his usual brown coat and was wearing a very old and rather moldy looking tailcoat. There were only three other students, two extremely nervous looking first years and a sullen faced slytherin fifth year.
"Merry Christmas!" said Dumbeldore as Harry and Draco approach the table. "As there are so dee of us, it seemed foolish to use the House tables. . . Sit down, sit down!"
Harry and Draco sat side by side at the end of the table.
"Crackers!" said Dumbeldore enthusiastically, offering the end of a large silver noisemaker to Professor Snape, who took it reluctantly and tugged. With a bang like a gunshot, the cracker flew apart to reveal a large, pointed witch's hat topped with a stuffed vulture.
Dumbeldore swapped it for his wizard's hat at once.
"Dig in!" He advised the table, beamed around.
As Harry was helping himself to roast potatoes, the doors of the Great Hall opened again. It was Professor trelawney, gliding toward them as though on wheels. She had put on green sequined dress in honor of the occasion, making her look more then ever like a glittering, oversized dragonfly.
Harry ignored her and continued eating.
When he finished he left.
