Chapter 13: Egg Race
"This season on Totally Epic, 14 contestants came from all over the country to California to compete in a series of challenges. Some were simple, some were crazy, gross, scary, and even a perhaps a little fun. But now it's down to the finale, where our last two contestants will battle for the $1 million." Monica started.
"There's Yasmine a shy girl from New Jersey, and Dixie a cowgirl from Alabama. Who'll win find out now on Totally Epic!"
That night, Dixie and Yasmine talked about their situation.
"I can't believe I'm in the finale." Yasmine said.
"Neither can I." added Dixie.
"What do you think they'll have us do?"
"I don't know, but I think I can take it."
"I hope I can."
"Come on, you've made it this far."
"Dixe does have a point." Yasmine told the viewers. "I mean I've been through a lot since I got here. I could win this thing."
"It's so exciting to be in the finale." Dixie informed. "I wonder what it would be like to win $1 million?"
Then something came to Yasmine's mind. "Hey, Dixie?" "Yeah?" "You'll play fair during out last challenge right?" "Oh don't worry, I'm no cheater." "That's a relief. Well we better get to sleep." "Yeah, big day tomorrow."
And they both went to the trailer and fell asleep.
The following morning, after breakfast the girls were ready. Monica met them in front of the mess hall.
"Hello, ladies and congratulations on making it to the finale." she told them.
"Now before we get started I have a little surprise for you two."
"What kind of surprise?" asked Yasmine.
"Hailey." Monica called.
Co-hostess Hailey came with some interns wheeling in a TV screen.
"You each get 1 minute to talk to your families before starting the challenge."
"Seriously?" Dixie questioned.
"Yep, Dixie you're first."
Co-hostess Hailey turned on the video screen, and a man and an older woman appeared on it.
"Hi, Daddy, hi Grandma." Dixie greeted happily.
"Hi, Dixie." said Dixie's grandma.
"How you doin' sweetheart?" asked her dad.
"I'm fine, Daddy."
"No one's given you a hard time have they? Because I can take care of them for ya."
He then pulled out his shotgun.
"That's not necessary, Daddy. Everything's fine."
"You be strong now." her grandma advised.
"Yeah, you've made it this far."
"But no matter what, we love you and we're proud."
"Thanks guys." Dixie replied.
Then the screen went black.
"Okay, Yasmine your turn." Monica instructed.
Yasmine excitedly went up to the screen, and her family appeared. It consisted of a man, woman, two girls, and a boy.
"Hi, Mom, Dad. What's up guys?"
"Hi, sweetheart." greeted her mom.
"Congratulations, Yasmine." her dad told.
"You can win this thing, sis." encouraged her sister.
"Yeah." agreed her brother.
"You just got one more challenge, you can do this cuz." said her cousin.
"Thanks, I just hope I don't embarrass myself."
"You won't Yasmine, just know we're proud of you no matter what." her mom told her.
Yasmine smiled, then the screen went black.
"All right, ladies are you ready for the final challenge?" Monica wondered.
"We're ready." the two declared.
"Then let's get started."
Monica then led them away.
They came to the edge of the woods, there they saw the previous eliminated contestants.
"Finalists, meet your cheering section: Joshua, Madgalena, Jaime, Zachary, Benneth, Destiny, Sabine, Bo, Madison, Conrad, Caleb, and Hayley." Monica introduced.
The others teens waved at them.
"For this challenge, you'll be competing...in an egg and spoon race."
"Sounds simple enough." replied Dixie.
"Don't be so sure, Dixie." Co-hostess Hailey told her.
"The rules are simple, it's like a regular egg and spoon race you have to try not to drop your egg, and if you do you simply pick it up and put it back on. But here are the obstacles." Monica told.
A screen then showed what lied ahead of the girls.
"First you'll have to walk across a water pit filled with snapping turtles, then you'll have to maneuver around some rust snap traps, next you'll need to walk through a couple bee farms, and lastly you have through a snake pit."
Yasmine and Dixie looked at each other nervously. Co-hostess Hailey, then gave them each a metal spoon and a hard boiled egg.
"So are you ready?"
"We're ready." the girls said.
"Then on your marks...get set...go!" Monica announced, and blew her whistle.
And with that, the girls were off.
"Go Yasmine!" cheered Madison.
"You can do it, Dixie!" Conrad chanted.
The girls hurried into the woods, making sure not to drop their eggs. Then they came to their first obstacle, walking across a water pit filled with snapping turtles, and their bridges were just some wooden boards.
"Oh boy." whispered Yasmine.
And the started to make their way over the boards. They tried to keep their balance, as they heard the snapping of the turtles. Dixie was carefully making her way, when she wobbled, and fell into the water!
"And there goes Dixie." announced Monica, as she and the others watched the scene on TV.
"Oh boy." replied Jaime. A
s Dixie got herself together, she felt the turtle snapping at her.
"Ow, ow ow." she cried.
"Sorry, Dixie." Yasmine told her, and she continued on.
Dixie quickly got her egg back on her spoon, and continued on.
"Yasmine is now in the lead."
"You can win this Yasmine." Bo cheered.
"I did feel bad for Dixie, but it felt good being in the lead." Yasmine told.
Yasmine reached the next obstacle first, with Dixie following behind her. Next up was the rust snap traps.
"This is gonna be a doozy." Dixie said, as she carefully walked on.
"You can say that again." agreed Yasmine.
They were managing to avoid the traps, even though some of the snapped shut when they brushed past them. Then Yasmine tripped on one, and fell to the ground.
"Ooh, that was bad." observed Destiny.
Yasmine opened her eyes, and looked for her egg that had fallen. She saw the egg, unfortunately it had landed right in the center of one of the traps.
"Of course." she complained.
Being smart about the situation, Yasmine reached for the egg from the side of the trap, and managed to grab it.
"See you at the finish line, Yasmine." Dixie called as she left the snap traps.
"Not if you see me there first." Yasmine replied, as she got up and followed.
"And now Dixie's in the lead." Monica observed.
"Keep on going, Dixie!" encouraged Magdalena.
Next was the bee farms.
"Please don't string me bees." Dixie hoped.
She then walked into the bee farm with many bees flying around her. Yasmine caught up, and tried to avoid the bees. Each girl gently swatted bees away with their free hand as they walked. Suddenly, a bee flew on Dixie's nose.
"Shoo."
She tried to swat it off, but then another bee flew in her face, surprising her, causing her to fall back.
"And Dixie's down!"
"Oh, drat." she complained.
"Excuse me, Dixie. Coming through." Yasmine told.
And she left the bee farm.
"And Yasmine takes the lead again."
"Come on, Yasmine." cheered Destiny.
Dixie got out of her daze, and got back up. She put her egg back on her spoon, and continued on.
"I can't believe I let those bees scare me." Dixie admitted. "I'm tougher than that."
Then came the last obstacle, the snake pit. When Yasmine came to it, she froze. The snakes slithered and hissed.
"Hey, Monica these snakes aren't poisonous right?" she asked.
"Not to worry, these snakes are completely harmless." Monica announced.
"That's a relief to hear." Dixie said, coming up behind her.
The girls then pushed forward. Yasmine froze when she felt a snake slither across her foot. When it was gone she stepped forward careful not to drop her egg.
"Nice snakes, good snakes." Dixie told, as she carefully walked over them.
Then she wobbled, and almost dropped her egg.
"Oh boy." awed Conrad, as he saw the scene on screen.
Luckily Dixie managed to stop herself just in time, and she continued on. And Yasmine followed close behind.
"And now they're neck in neck. Who'll be the winner?" Monica wondered aloud.
The teens cheered, and the two made their way to the finish line. They both began speed walking, being careful not to try and drop their eggs. The finish line was only a few feet away, and it could be either of their win.
Suddely, Yasmine tripped over and rock, and fell to the ground. Dixie passed by, while she scrambled to get back up. And just when she got close enough...Dixie crossed the finish line first!
"And Dixie wins Totally Epic!" Monica announced happily.
The teens who were rooted for Dixie cheered in delight.
"I did it, I won!" Dixie squealed.
Yasmine stepped forward. She looked disappointed at not winning, but not really sad.
"Congratulations, Dixie." she told her.
"Thanks. Sorry you didn't win, Yasmine." Dixie replied.
"It's okay, second place isn't too bad."
The two then shook hands.
Later on, Monica and Co-hostess Hailey met the teens by a stop.
"Here you are, Dixie. It's all yours $1 million." Monica said.
Co-hostess Hailey gave her a metallic briefcase that contained all the money.
"Thank you." Dixie replied.
"Don't spend it all in one place." Co-hostess Hailey told her.
"And thank you all for competing in my show. It was an honor to work with you all." Monica mentioned to the others.
They all gave kindly replies. Then Dixie boarded the bus, and all the teens were on the way home.
"And that was Totally Epic. Thanks for watching, this is Monica Striker, out."
The End, thx for all those who let me use their OCs.
