Law was no longer running on empty. He could finally slow down now that Cora-san was saved. They successfully navigated their way out of Minion Island and away from the North Blue. He stole his devil fruit from the pirate crew on Minion successfully, surprising Cora-san when he arrived back at camp with it. He left in the middle of the night and slipped onto the ship, silencing anyone who happened to notice him— it was surprisingly easy. Law washed off the blood from his blade before heading back and wiped himself down but Cora-san still noticed the blood behind his ears when he came back that night. He frowned but said nothing as they hurriedly packed their belongings and narrowly escaped an encounter with the Pink Flamingo as Lu called him, because as usual he couldn't be bothered to learn someone's name properly.
Days later, Cora-san remarked, "Law, I'm happy you have the fruit now, you seem so adept at it, almost like you've had it for years."
Law grimaced and said, "It's not that hard to decipher its uses, I'm a surgeon, these things come naturally to me," he concluded and then immediately realized he made another slip-up, how Luffy of him he thought amused, smirking internally.
"A surgeon, huh?" Cora-san questioned and then laughed. "Aww, Law, you're gonna be a great surgeon one day, you nag like the best of doctors, already!" he said, ruffling his hair. Law pretended to hate it and had to cover his face because he was trying not to smile. Cora wisely pretended not to notice.
A couple weeks later
Law would occasionally wake up in cold sweats which had Rosinante greatly concerned. Law would attribute it to the white lead amber disease but Rosi knew it ran deeper than that. Law would mutter different names in his sleep, names he never heard of, certainly never encountered while he was a pirate or a marine. Except for one,one that worried him deeply. Rosi wondered what the connection between the two of them was. Was it the pirate that Law knew? For surely there were other men named Marco?
But what sealed the deal was Law muttering one night, "Fly Marco, please, you have to fly, please," in a high desperate voice, Rosi had never heard before and woke up with a gasp. He forgot all of Law's previous rejections and immediately went over to comfort him. He made tea and wrapped him up in another blanket. He even hugged him for a few seconds before Law pushed him away. He asked Law if he wanted to talk about it and he looked up, not really all there, and croaked out, "I have brothers. One day you'll meet them." I fell over in shock and Law chuckled weakly. Rosinante stayed with him all night until Law nodded off into a fitful sleep again but Rosi couldn't sleep.
Marco was the name of a fearsome pirate on White Beard's crew, the second in command, what in the world was Law doing muttering his name? And brothers? This was the first time he heard about brothers. Rosinante had traveled with Law for well over a year but even now Law could still surprise him. Rosi began biting his nails silently and stayed awake to watch over Law making sure none of his older brother's goons found them. But tomorrow–tomorrow, he would ask Law about Marco and get to the bottom of Law's mysterious brothers.
