Chapter 2
Ups and Downs of Relationships
The time was eleven o'clock when Harley and Ivy got ready for bed. As Ivy watched her girlfriend, she noticed Harley sitting on the bed looking down at the floor, so she made her way to the edge
"Are you ok honey?"
"Yay I'm fine," the woam reassured her, trying to hide the sorrow in her voice.
"Harley, you know you can always tell me if something's bothering you," Ivy said putting a hand on Harley's shoulder.
"Do you think people still only see me as Joker's ex?"
"Of course, they don't. They see you as Harleen Quinzel, one of Gotham's most feared, smartest, and sexist rogues."
"It's... it's just that I feel like everyone remembers me as that wired girl who was madly in love with him." Harley shamefully admitted.
"They know you're more than that."
Harley slightly looked up for a second with a small smile, but it faded, and she looked down again.
Ivy suddenly had an idea, so she walked to the wooden dresser and then returned to the other side of the bed.
"I know what will cheer you up," Ivy said in a lusty voice.
Harley turned around to Ivy laying on her right side in the same revealing green bra and knickers that the redhead had worn on the night they first had sex. Ivy gave her a kind smile with one hand on her thigh.
"Thanks, Red."
Ivy's smile widened a little as they dove under the covers. Pamela gave Harleen a quick peck on the lips before turning off the lights and begin their real fun.
In their small, Barbara and Kara began looking over a sheet of paper with a colored sketch of a new batgirl outfit. Over the past two months, Barbara had been considering changing her suit. They had been working on a new design, which was A violet suit that garnered yellow boots, gloves, decals, and a short cape. The shoes' soles were black with matching-colored bats at the top. The cowl's neck and eyes were black and had an opening in the back for her hair to flow out of. Below her tool belt was reinforced black fabric that started at her belly button and ended at the top of her thighs
"What do you think?" Kara asked.
"That's it's that's the one."
"I can wait to see it on you," Kara teased, causing the redhead to giggle.
When they made their way to bed, Barbara looked at the picture of her and her father on the desk. She left out a quiet sign before falling asleep.
The next day, Kara said her goodbyes on her way to the train station. Meanwhile, Barbara was called over to the Wayne manor.
It was nine o'clock when Kara arrived in Metropolis. Although it was quicker to fly she decided to take the train, mostly as she had agreed to meet up with Jimmy Olsen at the station.
She made her way to a small cafe in the station where Jimmy was waiting for her at a table with a coffee cup. Jimmy waved and got up to greet her.
"Hey Kara, great to see you again."
"It's great to see you again too, Jim," Kara said. "So, how have things been here?"
"Same old same old."
"And you?"
"Great. I managed to get a front-page story on ACME's pollution crimes," Jimmy revealed.
"Well, congratulations!"
"Thanks, so how have you been?"
"I've been good," Kara responded.
"And Barbara?"
"She's doing well but you know what it's like for her at this time of year."
"Yeah and with her dad not being there for her too," Jimmy sympathized.
"Yeah. At least their talking to each other."
"That's good. How does he feel about you now?"
"Um, he's getting used to me."
"He still doesn't accept you?" Jimmy asked as he put his empty cup in a bin. He earned a brief nod "Well, at least he's been nice to you."
"True, unlike someone we know."
Back in Gotham, Barbara arrived at Bruce's house.
"Good morning, Ms. Gordon," Alfred greeted once he opened the door.
"It's nice to see you again, Alfred." She found her way to the living room where Bruce was waiting.
"Thank you, Alfred," he said.
Alfred left the room as Barbara took a seat. "So what is it you wanted to talk about?" she inquired.
"Tomorrow I'll be on a business trip out of Gotham for a month," he informed her.
"Ok, I'm sure Kara and I can look after Gotham," Barbara said confidentially.
"I can't risk that with Joker on the loose," Bruce said.
Barbara begrudgingly nodded at his statement. She knew that since losing Harley, Joker had gone on a rampage ending with him once again breaking out of Arkham only two days earlier. She and Kara had targets on his back since putting him in there.
"I've asked Superman to look after the city unit I come back."
"Why didn't you ask Zee?" Barbara asked.
"She's on a magic show tour for the next two months." Brace said.
"Ok. Well, good luck with your trip." Barbara said.
"Thanks." Bruce said.
Back in Metropolis, Kara and Jimmy were at the Daily Planet chatting to each other when they saw Lois walking toward them.
"Hello, Lois," Jimmy said.
"Hello," she greeted before turning to Kara "Dyke."
Kara glared at her. When Lois found out about her being gay, things between they had gotten worse. Lois never liked queer people and didn't hide it at all. Kara had tried her best to be civil but Lois was always vicious to her.
"Hi, Lois."
"So, how's Barbie?" Lois Lane asked rhetorically.
"Her name is Barbara."
"Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize that you actually named your sex toy," Lois smugly retorted.
Kara's face turned to pure anger. "You're such a cu-"
"Kara." She turned around to see Clark giving her a stern look. "Can you to my office for a sec."
"You could at least try and be nice to her," Jimmy told Lois who just rolled her eyes and left.
Kara sat across from her cousin at his desk. "You heard what she said."
"I know but that doesn't mean you can call her that. There's something I need to tell you," Clark said in a cram tone.
"What?".
"Bruce is on a business trip for the next month and has asked me to help look after Gotham."
"So, who's looking after Metropolis?" Kara asked.
"The Green Lanterns. However, I'm bringing Lois with me."
"What! Clark no!"
"I know, I know. You two don't get along but I could only get the time off in Gotham if we got some stories there."
"But..."
"No buts Kara," he sternly commanded. "I'll talk to Lois about her problem but she's still coming."
"Fine," she agreed.
Barbara was getting the apartment ready for her father's visit. She made sure her new batgirl outfit was put away. Just as she finished there was a knock on the door, so she opened it to see her father.
"Hi, dad."
"Hello, Barbara," Jim greeted as he came in.
"Can I get you anything?"
"Um, no thank you."
They sat on the sofer. There was an awkward silence for thirty seconds.
"Nice weather we've been having," Barbara said. Jim nodded.
"So how are things?" he asked.
"Good."
"I was wondering if you would like to go out for a movie night? I know how much you liked those."
"Could I bring Kara with me?" Barbara nervously. Jim didn't answer he just looked away.
"She can come with us," Jim said.
"Thanks Dad."
As night came to Metropolis Clark and Lois were getting ready for bed.
"You know I don't appreciate what you said to Kara today," Clark berated as he put his glasses on their bedside table.
"Hey, she's a freak."
"Why can't you just accept her for who she is?"
"We've been over this, they're unnatural, abnormal," she defended.
"Superman isn't normal and you like him," he tried.
"At least Superman is straight and doesn't steal my stories," Lois bit back.
"Just play nice, for my sake."
"Fine," she said begrudgingly.
Clark turned off the lights as they fell asleep. When he put his muscular arm around Lois, she elbowed him to stop, so he removed his arm and turned his back to her.
