Goodnight and Good-bye
"I want a divorce," she said firmly.
Draco's world shattered at those four simple words. After all they had been through during the past two years, she was just going to leave him. He couldn't stand.
"Why," he managed to get out while trying to regain his composure. "Haven't I been a good husband? Why all of the sudden are you sad? Did I do something wrong?" he paused, "is there someone else?"
He read her face desperately for an answer. He searched in vain, there was nothing on her face but the sadness she had already spoken to Draco about.
"Draco," she said, "there isn't anyone else."
"Then why," Draco cut in.
"I'm unhappy," she sat down and looked Draco squarely in his gray eyes. He wouldn't stand to see her so hurt like that. She looked so vulnerable. Draco had everything he could possibly want before she was wedged into his bachelor life. And now, he couldn't live without her. There was no way he was going to let her leave.
"Why- How could you be unhappy," stammered Draco, "I've given you everything. You've never had to want for anything. It's not like we're going to go broke anytime soon. I've provided a good life for us. What can you possibly have to be unhappy about?"
Still her face showed that one emotion.
"I didn't want this life for us, you did" she said fighting back tears, "this isn't the life I imagined myself having. I wanted. . . I wanted a husband that would always be home. I don't need a mansion! I want a family to come home to, I want kids Draco! A house in the suburbs, a happy. . ." her face fell, she caught her breath and whispered, "a husband."
Draco couldn't believe what he was hearing. He didn't had enough time to process everything she was saying. She got up and knelt in front of him.
"I'm sorry Draco," tears were freely streaming down her cheeks, "I love you, really I do. But, in the past two years that we've been married. I've seen you a combined three months."
She let that sink in.
"What kind of marriage is that," she sobbed into her hands.
Draco slid off of his seat and onto the floor to join his wife. He wrapped his arms around her and whispered comforting words into her ears.
After several minutes of crying and comforting. She finally sobered and broke free of of Draco's hold. She got up and wiped the tears away from her face.
"Draco I'm sorry," she said in a broken voice, "but I need to be alone for a while. I need some time to think. . . about why I married you."
They stared into each other's eyes for the longest moment. With one last long breath released, she turned and walked out of the manor.
That night, Hermione Granger, left Draco Malfoy, and her marriage behind.
