Alex was released from the hospital a few days after she had woken up. Kelly had been right be her side the entire time.
Kelly opened his apartment door and Alex followed him inside. He set her bag down by the door and threw his keys into the bowl next to the door. "Well this is it."
Alex looked around at the open floor plan that had a corner of the apartment closed off which if Alex had to guess was the bedroom. "Simple. I like it."
Kelly let out a breath of air that he hadn't realized he was holding in. "Good. Good." They took a few more steps into Kelly's apartment. "You can have my room and I'll take the couch and then when a two bedroom opens up we can move into one."
"Kels you don't have to do all this. I can just stay above uncle Hermann's garage." Alex felt like she was imposing on his life and that it would just be awkward with her being there.
"No it's totally fine Lex." The honest truth was Kelly knew she couldn't go back there. The memory of what Mason had done to her would haunt her dreams. Hermann was still trying to clean up the place, a contractor recommend just gutting it and starting fresh.
Kelly led her the rest of the way through the apartment and showed her the bedroom. "Well I'll let you rest. Big day tomorrow."
Alex put on a weak smile and nodded her head. Kelly let the room closing the door behind him. Lex laid back onto the bed and sighed. His room felt so cold and distant. It felt as if she shouldn't be there.
Alex pulled out her phone and started to text her old partner back in North Carolina.
Alex: Hey
Aurora: Hey girl! how are you doing?
Alex: I'm alright. I'm staying with Kelly.
Aurora: You sure that's a good idea? I just remembering you telling me how you guys left things.
Alex: I wasn't given much choice. Uncle Hermann practically packed me into Kelly's car.
Aurora: Do you want to be there?
Alex: I don't know. I still have feelings for Kelly but I know he's never had any for me and I just know this ends in heartache.
Aurora: Then leave. You're an adult Alex. Or are you hoping suddenly Kelly will have feelings for you?
Alex: Ughhh I don't know. This whole coming back to Chicago has been a complete mess.
Aurora: Only you can decide you own happiness and what that happiness looks like.
Alex: You've been eating fortune cookies again haven't you?
Aurora: I have no clue what your talking about.
Alex was getting ready to respond till she heard talking coming from the living room. She listened closely and realized it was Kelly and another females voice.
Kelly walked out of his bedroom and sat down on the couch turning on the black hawks game. This moment truly being the first he has been able to relax in. Alex was safe and in his room. Mason was no where to be seen.
There was a knock at Kelly's apartment door, so he sat down his almost empty beer bottle to answer it. When he opened the door his eyes connected with Stella's
"Stella, hey. what are you doing here?"
"I came to see you. Heard you were home finally." Stella walked right past Kelly and into his apartment. She took note of the game being on a couple empty beer bottles.
"I'm sorry Stella. Everything with Lex has just been such a head spin."
"That's okay." Stella took a couple steps towards Kelly and placed her hands on his chest. "Is there anything I can do to help relieve some of your stress?" She went o kiss his cheek was he pushed her away.
Stella was hurt and stunned. Kelly Severide had never pushed her away before. "It's not a good time Stella." Kelly couldn't bear the thoughts of Alex walking out and seeing them two having sex on the couch.
"What? why?" Stella folded her arms and looked Kelly up and down.
"Lex is in my room resting. She is going to be staying with me for a while."
"I'm not seeing the problem."
"Because she is healing and doesn't need to see us having sex on the couch!"
She placed her hands on her hips, looking Kelly up and down. "Then come to my place?"
"I can't Stella. She needs me." Kelly was sure by now Lex could hear the two of them as their voices were rising with each word that was being said.
"She's not a child Severide. She can handle herself!"
"Stella you just…" Kelly was yelling but then heard footsteps moving towards them. He looked over and sure enough there was Alex.
"Kel she's right. I should just go stay somewhere else. I'm not 15 any more. I don't need protection." Alex moved towards the door to grab her keys and her duffel bag.
"Lex don't go." Kelly pushed past Stella and chased Alex to the door.
"Kelly stop. It's fine. I'll be okay." Alex turned around to face her best friend. His blue eyes were turning into an ocean as tears threatened to fall. "I promise." Alex placed a kiss to Kelly's cheek and then left the apartment.
Kelly watched as the girl he has been in love with since they were teenagers walked out the door, again. "Stella please leave."
"Kelly…"
She went to protest but was cut off by Kelly. "Leave Stella." The words came through gritted teeth as Kelly did his best to not yell and scream at Stella.
Stella quickly left Kellys apartment without another word. He then slammed the door behind her and locked it. He laid his head against the cold door and closed his eyes. Something always came through and messed things up. He should of just confessed his love for Alex when he had the chance.
Kelly pour himself a glass of whisky and sat back down on the couch trying to calm his nerves. He sent Lex a text but she didn't respond, if he had to guess she was probably ignoring him.
