Memory
A Yû Yû Hakusho fan fiction by Sir Psycho Sexy
A/N: A translation of "La memoria" into English. Satô Kuroko remembers her life. Het; mentions a teeny bit of yaoi. Dedicated to María and Kuwa-chan.
Satô Kuroko sat in an old brown chair, mixing ice and cognac in a shotglass. While she drank a bit of the cognac, she looked through a photo album that showed various stages in her life.
She remembered the figure she had when she was younger; the other children called her "fatty fatty two-by-four" and names of that sort. She believed that nothing good would come along in life, but her life was anything but ordinary after discovering that she had spiritual abilities, and that Koenma, Prince of Reikai, wanted her to become a Reikai Tantei.
Her new job carried many risks, but Kuroko loved it. She didn't think of the consequences of killing demons; it was something she had to do to maintain a perfect world for humans. But she felt bad for her younger co-worker, Sensui Shinobu. The young man always looked sad, quiet, and intense, and, slowly, she began to fall in love with him and tried to flirt with him. But she discovered his romantic situation, and felt worse than ever. Her crush on Shinobu was only a crush, and not true love.
Kuroko drank more of the cognac, and turned the pages of the album. She and her husband had gone all out for their wedding, first in traditional Japanese clothes, and then in a tuxedo and a white wedding dress. Kuroko remembered the day she got married happily; she got married to a special man, a man who returned her love, not like her stupid so-called "romance" in her youth when she had fallen for a homosexual. While she ate the cake with her new husband, Kuroko knew the future was secure.
Another page was turned, and Kuroko saw her beautiful children as babies in the hospital. When she gave birth to her children, the ex-Tantei knew that her life as a human being, as a woman, was complete. A perfect life, as a mother and a warrior at the same time…
Kuroko's memory always persisted. Her mind arrived in the future, when her children would be the protectors of Ningenkai, and in the present, when she thought about the incredible power of Urameshi Yûsuke, the perfect mixture of human and demon.
Kuroko closed the album and finished off the cognac. Time would always be time, and she, as the first Reikai Tantei, knew it better than anyone.
