Chapter 3: Earthbending Style

Sorry for the long wait, hope this makes up for it.

My New Years Resolution for 2022 is to publish new chapters on this site. Hope I fulfill this promise.

The four time travelers, along with the gang, were preparing to leave the barn when Katara came bursting into the building.

"They took him! They took Haru away!"

Aang, in a surprised voice, said, "What."

Sokka asked, "Who? The Fire Nation."

Katara nodded and said, "The old man turned him in to the Fire Nation. It's all my fault, I forced him to do earthbending."

Ian asked in concern, "When did this happen?"

"Last night when we were asleep." Katara said.

Susan and Barbara walked over to Katara to comfort her.

"Katara, I'm just as much to blame as you since I also encouraged Haru to save that old man with his earthbending." Susan said compassionately with tears forming in eyes from her own guilt as well.

Barbara comforted and said, "Susan, you and Katara had no idea that the old man would turn on Haru."

"We should be lucky that he didn't turn those soldier on us as well." The Doctor said, in the commanding voice whenever there was a tense situation.

"The Doctor's right." Sokka said, "We should just pack up and leave." He then turned to the time travelers. "I recommend that you guys do the same as well."

Katara said one word, "No."

"What." Sokka responded.

"Were going to free Haru." Katara said.

"And how are we going to do that? We don't even know where Haru is." Sokka stated.

"Because they are going to take me to him."

"And why would do that?" Aang asked.

"Because they are going arrest me for earthbending." Katara said with vigor.

"And we'll help you." Susan said, tears no longer in her eyes.

"Absolutely not my child!" The Doctor yelled in concern, "Chesterton. Mrs Wright. We're leaving."

"No Doctor." Ian said, "We're staying for now. What the Fire Nation is doing, it's basically what Haru said yesterday. They are thugs who bully and take away from those who are not like them."

Barbara then joined in, "Besides Doctor. This is no different then what was happening on Skaro with the Thals and the Daleks."

"Please grandfather, we traveled to help fight the evil of the universe, not observe it." Susan pleaded.

The Doctor conceded her point and sighed, "Oh, very well."

Susan cheered with joy, while the two teachers nodded in approval.

The gang were watching the conversation and wondered if these so called time travelers were real or were suffering from mass delusions because of the war. But they also knew that it didn't matter and these people were there to help them.

The Doctor then walked to Katara and said, "Well child, what is your plan exactly on how to find Haru?"

Katara smirked.

"I thought you were crazy at first Katara, but this might work." Sokka said, slightly exhausted.

He, Ian, Barbara, and Katara were at the mine pushing a boulder above an air vent. It took a while to find one light, but big enough to pull a convincing act.

"There are ventilation shafts throughout these mines." Sokka explained as the boulder was put in place, "All Aang has to do is send an air current from that vent to this one right here. The boulder levitates and ta-da. Fake earthbending."

From a distance the Doctor said, "Quite a genius plan coming from a young woman like you."

Katara was flattered by the comment and said, "Aang, you got all that."

But Aang was distracting himself by practicing his airbending on a butterfly and said, "Sure, sure. I got it."

"Do you remember it?" Ian asked.

Still distracted, Aang said, "Yeah, yeah. Just relax. You're taking all the fun out of this."

"Young man!" The Doctor, who was annoyed at Aang being distracted, sternly said, "Do you want to be taken by a group of soldiers that can control fire and most likely imprison you. Like they did to Haru."

Aang then realized his mistake and embarrassingly said, "Sorry sir."

Susan then ran up to the group and said, "Soldiers are coming."

Barbara said, "Everyone get in your places."

As soon as everyone got in their places a group of Fire Nation soldiers appeared doing their late morning patrol.

Ian and Katara were one side, while the Doctor and Sokka were on the other.

Ian was pretending to be a miner carrying a heavy bucket of coal with Katara helping him, while the Doctor and Sokka were just two passerby who just happen to run into the other two causing the coal they were carrying to fall off of the bucket and onto the ground.

The Doctor was the first to 'react', "Watch where you two are going! Clumsy miners."

"Yeah, get out of way pipsqueaks." Sokka added in.

"Clumsy!" Ian yelled, "If wasn't for you two our mornings gain wouldn't have been all over the ground!"

The soldiers watched, being bored of their morning routine. Besides an argument between a couple Earth Kingdom peasants was a good form entertainment from time to time. So they watched, waiting to see if one of them threw a punch so they can intervene and discipline these savages.

Katara argued to Sokka and yelled, "How dare you call us pipsqueaks! You giant eared cretin!"

"What did you call us!" Sokka yelled 'defensibly'.

"Giant-eared cretin! Look at those things! Do herds of animals of them for shade!?" Katara 'insulted' to him and leaned towards her brother.

Barbara, who was hiding behind a rock with Susan and Aang, just sighed. She thought Katara and Sokka's acting was, well… the Coal Hill drama department were much better at acting than those two. Susan just giggled.

"You better back off!" Sokka yelled to Katara, "Seriously, back off." He muttered to his sister, who was leaning a little too close.

The Doctor then said, "Back off my friend child! The youth today have no respect."

"Respect!" Katara yelled in her hamminess, "I'll show you respect! EARTHBENDING STYLE!"

On cue, Aang airbended into the vent and a rush of air went to the other side, where the boulder was. Katara went into a basic earthbending pose and raised her arms up. The boulder folded in midair.

The soldiers were awe, but not for the reasons the group thought.

"That lemur! He's earthbending!" One soldier said in awe as Momo was in meditation pose on the other side of the vent.

The Doctor just slapped himself in the forehead, while Sokka said, "No you idiots, it's the girl."

"Oh, of course." The soldier said embarrassingly. His commander slapped him in the back of the head.

The Doctor and Sokka went up to Katara to 'restrain' her.

"We'll hold her." Sokka stated to the soldiers. He then whispered to his sister, "You've got twelve hours to find Haru. We'll be right behind you."

The commander then motioned two soldiers to arrest the 'earthbender'. Ian was thinking though. This young girl, while clearly brave, he didn't want her to be in danger alone. So as the group of soldiers were walking away he threw a couple of pebbles at them.

"Hey! Why did you do that for you!" One of solders yelled.

"Yes, I did it. With my earthbending." Ian proclaimed.

The commander then turned to Sokka and the Doctor and said, "Did you see this man earthbend?"

The Doctor, quickly realizing what Ian was doing, responded, "Yes, I saw him earthbend."

Sokka caught on and chimed in, "Yeah, he defied the rules of the Fire Nation. Two earthbenders in a day, what a catch."

So the soldiers restrained Ian, who to put up a false fight to appear as convincing of resisting.

One soldier punched Ian in the stomach and arrogantly said, "What kind of earthbender can only bend a couple of pebbles?"

"More like a pebblebender." One of his colleagues said, both laughed as well as rest of the soldiers, who both took Katara and Ian away.

The Doctor, Aang, Susan, Sokka, Barbara, and Momo looked on, and glad that the first part of the plan was a success, with an extra step.

The two prisoners were taken to a Fire Nation building near a harbor, where the two were changed into brown prison uniforms. Then they were placed into a dreary prison barrage with other prisoners that went out to sea.

As the boat was going out to prison, Ian said in concern to Katara, "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine." The Southern Water Tribeswoman said, "It was stupid what you did, but also brave."

"Thank you, I just didn't want you to be alone in this prison. I know that you'll most likely find Haru in this prison, but still it's better that I came with you. Besides I served some time in National Service in Cyprus and Malaysia. Plus I've fought the likes of Daleks and travelled the Silk Road during my time with the Doctor. Believe me, this will be a piece of cake compared to what I have faced with the Doctor before." Ian said with determination, "Besides Katara I believe that you would have become a good student if you were a part of my science class at Coal Hill."

"Thanks, but we'll have to wait and see." Katara said with zeal in her voice.

High above the prison boat, covered by clouds, the Time Travelers plus Aang, Sokka, and Momo were on Appa following their two friends.

"She'll be fine Aang." Sokka said to comfort his friend, "Katara knows what she's doing."

"I know how you feel Aang." Barbara said in the same tone as Sokka, "I'm worried about Ian as well."

"Thanks." Aang said, "Ever since I was freed from that iceberg by Sokka and Katara they've been pretty much my only friends since most of everyone I knew is now dead."

"Do you want to talk to me about it?" Barbara asked, having asked students who were in similar moods.

"No, but thank you for asking anyway." Aang said, not wanting reveal much to everyone with the current situation."

"Now is not the the time. We need to be prepared for what's ahead of us." The Doctor said sternly, focused on the task at hand.

Then it came on the horizon. An ugly, intimidating sea rig came into the groups field and most likely the prison barrage as well.

The bending prison.

Anyway, hoped you Whovians and fanbenders liked the latest chapter.

I know it seem fanfic cliché to have things be mostly the same with the exception of Ian accompanying Katara to the prison.

All that I'm going to tell you is that I do have plans for butterflies in my series.

Tofa and see you next time.
