Here's an early chapter because my brain won't shut off!
Welcome back. Honestly, I didn't expect 12 of you to see this, let alone 47. Not to mention the 34 favorites. Seriously, thank you.
Also, this chapter is a tad bit shorter than the previous. It only looks big because of a text wall of an end note.
Enjoy
Over the last few months Izuku had been focusing on a high intensity training regimen for his body. Almost every day he would run circles around the city, followed by calisthenics, weights and (on weekends) would meet All Might at Takoba beach to clear out the garbage that made it a landfill.
At first he found it grueling, waking up early to run across a city from one end to the other, lifting small weights until his body burned in pain. It's always the first time that feels the worst, but as he repeated his process it became easier over time. Before, he could only run a quarter of a quarter-mile before halfway out of breath. Now he could the full mile and still have some energy left.
'It would all be worth it' he told himself, and he truly did believe it. It was all for a purpose, for something dear to him. A quirk.
Izuku had always been told by his peers he would amount to nothing due to his quirklessness. He had been told that he was weak, pathetic, a loser and so much more. It's how he earned his infamous nickname.
Deku.
What made the nickname even more worse than it already is, was that it came from a kid he thought to be a friend. He still does consider him a friend, even though he would relentlessly bully him, harass him, even kick down his hopes and dreams. He didn't know why his friend did this, but for some reason he did. It hurt to think about it.
To add to it, his mother's words on finding out of his quirkless nature were "I'm so sorry". He knew she didn't mean anything by it, but Izuku couldn't help but feel put down. As if she was sorry that he could never be a hero. As if she was confirming what his peers had told him. That he is nothing. That he would be nothing.
Izuku's only ability to distract himself from thinking to hard on his past was to keep his eyes forward. He had a goal in sight and nothing could stop him. Not even Bakugo.
He was on his daily run. Half-filled sidewalks and busy roads, he didn't have to worry about too many obstacles in his path. Izuku smiled as a gentle breeze swept across the busy street.
The sounds of cars driving by provided a natural ambience. It was things that kept his focus, and, in parks where no cars were present, it would be birds chirping in the distance.
Izuku paused for a moment. Normally his focus would be on what's in front of him, but his attention was torn away from him. Just to his right hand side was a sidewalk TV display. The news was on, going over an event that happened some months back.
He let the news go on for awhile, staying even up to the point where they brought up the their topic.
"I remember that," the blue eyed news anchor answered the question that slipped past Izuku's ears. "That's when that sludge villain took a middle school student hostage."
Izuku knew he would be late, but his focus was elsewhere at the moment.
"Yeah," the other anchor, a man with hardened skin resembling scales, started. "Pretty much every hero was completely useless in that scenario."
"Except the kid," the other one said with a snicker. Izuku cringed, shrinking into himself as the anchors went on. "He has guts, but he would've gotten himself killed. I can't even imagine myself doing that."
"He's lucky All Might showed up when he did, or that would've gone down badly." Izuku shrank even more. "Still, his desire to save his friend is admirable. I wish we'd see more kids like that."
"Really. He'd make a good hero with an attitude like that."
That much surprised Izuku. His body tensed, not in shame, but in stunned awe. For the second time in his life he was told he could be a hero. And by some complete stranger that was behind a television screen no less! If only they knew he was quirkless. At the time he was anyway – hell, he still is! But that won't be the case for long.
The first person that said anything along those lines about him was actually his childhood hero. His (and everyone else's) favorite pro-hero: All Might. And it was for the same reason the news anchors said.
He had acted when none else were able to. He had jumped into the fray, regardless of whether or not he would die, to save his friend. As a result, All Might gave Midoriya a helping hand. All Might revealed to Izuku the true nature of his quirk, and asked if he would inherit it.
"You too can become a hero." Izuku remembered upon his words warmly.
Izuku smiled again, grateful for any words of encouragement to come his way. He turned away from the display, picking up his run where he left off. It was nice to finally hear some form a positive reinforcement, even if it was from a man who wasn't there.
Izuku would never let that feeling go. That feeling of support, of encouragement. 'He'd make a good hero'. Those words rang in his mind like a song. The uplifting nature of those words distracting him somewhat, as he narrowly missing a speed sign lodged towards the roadside of the sidewalk.
He was supposed to meet All Might at a local shopping center, not too far from where he was now. Apparently they were to run some errands before their beach cleanup session.
Izuku slowed down his pace, ready to make a sharp turn just ahead. The moment he made contact with the sidewalk corner, he swiveled with moderate grace.
The shopping center was only a half kilometer ahead in a straight line. He should should make it there in no time.
It was definitely surprise to see that same girl from a week ago out and about. She was in surprisingly better condition when he last saw her.
Her hair was about at ears length, the bottom folding outward shaking out to be like cat's ears. Her skin had less bandages and gauss wrapped around it, showing more of her dark skin, and the stitches in her forehead were completely gone, letting her eyes open fully instead of resting halfway open showing dark golden eyes; they way they looked made Izuku feel as if his soul could be touched.
Now that she was without crutches, a plastic medical boot encasing her right foot, he could finally see how much shorter she was compared to him.
She wore a pale blue shirt with a picture of a white rabbit on it that looked to be for boys, grey colored sweatpants that were tightened around her waist and a shoe that looked to be a half size too big on the opposite side of her boot.
Next to her was the doctor who introduced them to her, Kaneko-san, if Midoriya remembered correctly. Just a little taller than himself, matte black hair and steel colored eyes.
She seemed to be chatting with Toshinori, in an almost familiar sense. Still no given names with all the honorifics attached, but she was speaking to him as if they had met before (which, to be fair, they have).
"A-are they joining us All- Yagi-sensei?" Midoriya's voice snapped the trio's attention to him.
"Oh, you're here. No," Toshinori stated, looking at his quirk's heir. "This was just a strange coincidence. You came prepared?"
"As prepared as I can be," the young boy returned.
"Good. You're gonna need a lot of water because we have a long day ahead of us."
"I can only carry so much. Will we be getting more while we're out?"
"Of course!" Yagi answered. "They don't have fountains out there."
"Thank you, Yagi-sensei!" He turned to the other pair that was standing just in front of him. "H-hello," he began with a stutter. "My name is I-Izuku Midoriya. J-just in case you m-might not have remembered, I mean. I don't think I even introduced myself, I-I'm pretty sure Al-Yagi-san-sensei who introduced me to you. I-I hope you two have been fine!" He ended it with a bow, panicked and rushed.
"Seriously, are you sure you're okay?" It was the younger one to ask. "I know shy people exist but your a stuttering mess. Yoruichi, just in case you forgot."
"I-I didn't! I did remember your name! Unless that's kind of creepy then I'm sor-"
"Just relax," Yagi requested, his voice loud enough to grab Izuku's attention.
"R-right. Sorry." He sighed, a heavy breath followed to calm his nerves. "So, what brings you out here?" Finally, he managed to speak to a girl without stuttering. It was a joyous feeling, really. His chest warmed up and tightened, hoping he didn't creep her out with the question.
"Clothes," Yoruichi answered. "I'm almost fully discharged, no one's come in looking for me and what I'm wearing is from donations because... you know." She turned her pockets inside out, forcing a small piece of paper that hit the ground.
It landed at her doctor's feet. She picked it up. "A short stranger will enter your life with blessings to bear," she read aloud. "Fortune cookie."
"Yeah, I'm broke," she announced with a laugh.
"Which is why I'm paying," Fuyuko cut in. "Just don't go overboard, Yoruichi."
"Don't you have to work?" Yagi asked, intruding on the conversation.
"I took an early lunch. We should be back in about an hour or so." She quickly explained, Yagi nodding in understanding.
"Anyway, relax, I'm not about to drain your wallet," Yoruichi spoke out, drawing the conversation back on course.
The doctor replied with a half-relieved sigh. "Actually it's the commission's budget. I'm paying, yes. I'm just using their money. And even then, that doesn't mean you can go crazy with the spending. Clothes aren't the only thing we're getting today."
Izuku and Toshinori watched an uncomfortable look come across Shihouin's face. "Still don't like having to go with them."
"Neither do I," Kaneko agreed. "I don't hear too many good things about them. Aside from Hawks, I mean. Still, I watched an interview about him where he bashed the commission." Yoruichi's mouth curled up into a happy smile.
Toshinori decided to speak up before the conversation became uncomfortable. Not many people can talk about the commission for long without feeling the need to stop after a few minutes.
"Well it was nice catching up," Yagi chimed in. "It's time we go now."
That much Izuku was happy about. He doesn't follow the commission a whole lot. In fact, he hasn't even once considered looking into them despite the controversies that follow them. He remembered following Endeavor during their mess with their firstborn, even with Captain Celebrity and his scandalous allegations. But the commission was something wholly untouched by him.
Shaking these thoughts from his head, Izuku turned his attention towards the shrunken version of All Might. "So where do we stop first?"
...
"He's strange," Yoruichi said out loud, watching the two walk off in the distance.
"Just a bit," her doctor agreed. "Seems like a nice boy though."
"I guess?" Yoruichi added, not sure if she agreed or disagreed. Really, he seemed like a nervous wreck. Not to say he's a bad person, but not someone she'd trust leading a group.
"Do you have any stores in mind?" Kaneko asked.
"Does it matter?" Yoruichi asked.
"Not particularly. We need clothes, bedding, toiletries and some other essentials. There are a handful of stores for each of them, so feel free to choose."
The pair walked further down the lane, though Yoruichi walked with a noticeable limp due to the large plastic boot attached to her lower leg. It was irritating, really it was. She missed being able to walk normally, without the need of a massive ankle brace that went up to her knee.
She missed Orihime. This would have been completely fixed in less than thirty seconds had she have been the one to reach her fir- oh right! She couldn't even reach the Soul Society, let alone Orihime. So why would Orihime be able to reach her?
Yoruichi still cursed herself for discarding her Zanpakuto. She would have been home by now if not for that. Yoruichi couldn't help but mock her past self, thinking she no longer needs her sword because her Hakuda and Kido were superior.
You want to know what Hakudo and Kido couldn't do? Open the Dangai. Even Kisuke needed an elaborate set up to achieve that and she wasn't Kisuke.
"Is something bothering you?" She heard her doctor ask, breaking her trance.
"It's nothing," Yoruichi said, stuffing her hands in her pockets. "At least nothing you need to worry about."
Her doctor continued to press on. "Did you remember anything?"
"No, I haven't remembered anything." Not that she would need to. She remembered everything. But as long as she can, somewhat, seemingly blend into this world she'll tell whatever lies she needs to. Unless it's the detective, that guy just gave off the vibe that he wouldn't buy it.
"Is it the commissions-"
"Hey, look at that store!" Yoruichi pointed out a random outlet with a clothes hanger encompassing its name like a triangle. Anything to stop the oncoming barrage of questions. Her doctor gave a look, noticing the blatant attempt to get her to stop. She relented.
The logo was a mix of Roman and Japanese letters and characters that oddly enough blended in seemingly well enough. She could read the Japanese characters well enough given it was her native language, but Roman might as well be a shot in the dark.
The base of Yoruichi's knowledge of western languages was that the vast majority of them were derived from either Roman or Germanic characters. Sometimes Greek. That's it. She had no clue if the neighboring language was in English, French, Spanish or Italian.
"Nana Hana's?" Fuyuko read aloud. "Interesting choice."
"We going?" Yoruichi asked, not meaning to sound impatient.
"Sure"
When they approached the store from the outside they could maybe three or four other people inside. They could expect to be in and out within ten minutes, maybe eleven maximum.
Upon entering the shop they got a better look at the stock. Most of it seemed to be casual wear with a small mix of street wear closer to the front. Boys and girls clothes were separated onto two different sides. Yoruichi saw some clothes she liked, others she didn't, some were just underwhelming. Overall she would probably find a few things in here worth buying.
The two saw an employee walk up to them, a cute smile attached to a pretty face, hair that reached her shoulders and a medical eyepatch on one of her eyes.
"Hello, can I help you two in any way?" Yoruichi barely spent any time in the human world, but could already spot the signs of 'please say no, I'm only asking because I'm being paid to'.
"We're fine, thank you for asking," Yoruichi answered before her doctor.
An almost physical burden seemed to be lifted from the girl's shoulders. "Okay, you two have a wonderful day!"
"Why'd you go and do that? She could have helped us find something in our budget."
"We'll be fine. How much money do have to spend anyway?"
"250,000."*
"See, we have plenty."
Barely satisfied with her response, Kaneko rolled her eyes. She still gave the girl a smile, just to not seem annoyed.
Walking through the store, they wound up in the underwear section. Yoruichi picked out a random assortment, not caring for any colors or patterns. When done with that, they moved onto casual wear for her to look through and choose.
Now in the girl's section, they started looking through the options. Some good, some not so much, others just looked uncomfortable to wear. One set looked so tight it looked like it would pop Yoruichi like grape, and it was labeled as medium.
Eventually, after five more minutes of browsing, Yoruichi found a set that caught her eyes. One pair of black colored sweatpants, one set of lounge pants also at the same size and color, with one red and white lounge shirt with the kanji for 'tree' printed on the front, and the last one to be an orange and black colored tee shirt with no print attached.
"I'm good with this."
"Alright. Do you want to browse in the other sections or a different store?"
Yoruichi thought about it for a moment before making her decision. "I guess we could take a look."
That made her doctor smile. The less hopping through other stores she had to do, the quicker this would be. Not to mention that this store was selling decent quality clothes for a cheap price. Doubled with the fact that she noticed a discount that Yoruichi unknowingly participated in. Two sets of clothes for a combined half price.
Now wandering into the next section, Yoruichi immediately set her eyes on something she noticed. A hooded, orange colored sports jacket with black accents. On the left shoulder of the jacket was the number 41.
While Yoruichi didn't shoot to it like a manic child, she couldn't help but admit that she liked it. The price, about what she expected. Not expensive, but not cheap.
Just on the rack beside it was a white sports t-shirt with various Japanese lettering scattered on the shirt. It was smooth and loose fitting. She looked at the price and saw it was closer to the cheaper end.
Lastly was a pair of black shorts that reached the middle of her thighs. It was made of a similar material to her shirt while also being more tight fitted.
"Quite the haul," her doctor said. "I got you a pair of sandals, but I'm paying for that out my own pocket. It's only a 1,500 yen." (12 dollars)
"Thanks for that."
As odd as it was to say, Yoruichi was having fun. Is this what it really felt like to be a young teenage girl in the human world? It was safe to say she could easily convince Matsumoto to do this with her, maybe Rukia. Soi-Fon on the other hand, she would be a challenge. It was always fun trying to get that stubborn girl to relax. Almost as fun as teasing Kurosaki.
Maybe when she's able to she should drag the other Shinigami girls to this place. Even if Soi-Fon has to come at Yoruichi dragging her by the arm. She found herself smiling at the thought.
"Like it?" Kaneko asked.
"Yeah. I like it." Yoruichi still found herself smiling, thoughts focused more on nostalgia than what's in front of her.
Her doctor gave her smile and they walked towards the counter.
The total came out at around 19,000 yen. It took out a small chunk and would have taken more if not for that discount. Which, apparently the girl did see but just decided to not say anything.
Next was a food stall because the two had become hungry. Yoruichi had only spoken up when she heard her doctor's stomach growling like a ravenous wolf.
Apparently Fuyuko had missed out on breakfast because her alarm ran out of battery in the middle of the night. She had to rush out of bed, barely had time to throw on the right clothes, brush her teeth hastily and hop into her car doing morning traffic. She made it into work four minutes late.
With the Shinigami being her fourth patient to check in on during the mornings, she had entered the room just in time to see the Heroes Commission agents leave her young patient's bedside. When they left, she held the door open for them, being as polite as a doctor should be to guest and patient, then sighed when the door closed behind her.
Admittedly, this wasn't the first time she had to deal with the Heroes Commission speaking to a child patient without the consent of their doctor. Last time this happened it was to a little boy who's only parent passed during a violent car crash. When they found out the boy had a quirk, they immediately investigated. When they found out it was quite a powerful quirk, one revolving around manipulation of earth, they pounced.
Kaneko knew that not all of those in the commissions were hungry predators, but those that were gave the department a bad reputation.
It's no surprise they arrived to see Yoruichi as fast as they could, even with their backed up schedule. The girl was blindingly fast; she was able to disappear one second and in that same second show up towards the other end of the room.
Yoruichi would have no end of fun messing with her doctor. Kaneko would often come into an empty room, see an open window and Yoruichi on the other side of the hospital window that was parallel to hers. The first time it happened to her she almost had a heart attack. At least seventy-five meters crossed in a flash.
Shihouin couldn't stress enough enough how it wasn't teleportation. She would always describe it like taking a few steps.
Fuyuko thought on it. Taking a single step and disappearing a flash to appear on the opposite side of an area.
"Shunpō," Kaneko thought out loud.
Yoruichi nearly choked on her food. "E-excuse me?"
"Oh, don't mind me. Just... thinking out loud."
The two got dango from a small stall with a short line. Yoruichi took another bite out of hers before questioning her doctor. "What's this about shunpō?"
"I was just thinking about your quirk," the doctor admitted. "You take a step and disappear in a flash. Shunpō."
"Wow," Yoruichi answered anxiously. "Never would have thought about that." She was more concerned that a human unfamiliar with hakuda or hohō would correctly guess the name to her technique without even meaning to.
"It's an accurate description though. Am I wrong?"
"No, no. You're right, it's very accurate." Yoruichi took another bite of her food, finishing off the second dango ball on her stick. "You said quirks can evolve, right? Sort of like a... I think Pokémon evolution was the way you described it?"
Her doctor nodded. "That's right. If you're asking what potential your quirk might have beyond speed?" She paused for a moment, thinking of the possibilities. "Hmm... maybe electrostatic? Perhaps not a direct evolution, but a sort of side-effect of your quirk. With all that friction in the air and whatnot."
"So no turning into a cat or breathing fire?" Yoruichi asked, doing her best to appear to be joking. The woman apparently bought into it, even letting out a small laugh.
"No, none of that." This told Yoruichi she needed to be more careful than she initially thought. She'll have to shelve her cat transformation for now.
"Maybe I can control lightning?" Yoruichi implored, keeping up the façade of a joke. "You did mention an electrostatic after effect after all."
The doctor chuckled again, taking a sip from her drink to wash down her food. "Actually, maybe." That was all the confirmation she needed. "Maybe electricity is the source of that godlike speed of yours."
"In what way?"
"I don't know. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. I wouldn't bet on it though." Yoruichi couldn't help but internally laugh. She was going to bet, and she will win.
"So you can teleport?" Yoruichi inquired, changing the subject in hopes that her doctor wouldn't catch on. "How's that work?"
"It works by... how do I say this without loosing you?"
"Just say it."
Kaneko sighed. "So do you know what a worm hole is?"
"I read something on the internet about it."
"Recently?" Her doctor asked.
Yoruichi nodded. "About two days ago, public library."
"Who took you?"
Silence.
"So about your quirk?" Yoruichi implored, attempting to shift the subject off herself.
Her doctor did not look happy, but obliged the girl nonetheless. "So it works a bit like a wormhole. Wormhole's are theorized to be when the universe folds itself and a hole appears, allowing for travel to to opposite ends of space and time. Instead of the universe, I just fold the space between two different places."
"How far can you go with it?"
"Only if the path is clear and it's a straight line, so typically as far as my vision can see."
"With something like that, why a doctor? You could've been the worlds fastest mailwoman."
Kaneko snickered. "So could you." Yoruichi would admit, she herself up for that one. "As to why a doctor? I just like helping people. Also I did want to be a hero at one point, but decided to go into the medical field."
"Why the change of heart?"
Kaneko paused. "Was that a pun?"
Yoruichi's face went dull, putting the dots together before her face lit up. "Oh... I guess it was."
The doctor laughed again, this time in disappointment than in actual humor. "My change of heart came about when I failed the entrance exam. Honestly, I think this is my calling. I can get to patients in need much faster than my other colleagues and that tends to be a boon when someone's going into cardiac arrest or having a seizure."
"It's funny really," Yoruichi commented, "how some lines of work benefit from powers you would never think to see in that field."
"It really is," her doctor agreed.
The next store they visited was a bathroom supplies store. Not much needed to be bought there. Only toothpaste, a toothbrush, a razor, a hair comb and general hygiene products.
Yoruichi couldn't wait for this day to be over. Though if she was going to deal with those commission agents again, she'd prefer to wait in line as she was right now.
While their intentions may appear to be noble, the words they spoke were rolled off the tongues of snakes. It was like dealing with Central 46, but instead of executing people they tried to mold children into the perfect display pieces. It was disgusting and many of this countries residents seemed to agree.
It didn't take Yoruichi long to realize she was screwed when it came to those guys. Of course she could say 'I remember I have a family now', but then they'd ask for more details and she had no doubt in her mind they'd get that detective involved.
Not to mention when they were making no progress, they'd start to question her. They'd probably lock her up and interrogate her like in those shitty cop movies from Hollywood. Then what? Tell them that she is a god of death? How well would that go over? They'd probably put her in a padded room. Of course she could escape, but then she'd become a wanted person.
How would she even tell them that with a straight face?
Still, she wasn't about to let the commission agents use her like a toy. She would make their jobs a living hell for as long as she could.
The line made a single step forward, actually making progress. Surprisingly her and Fuyuko were only second in line. From how long it took the man who just left, now carrying three bags out of the store, she could have assumed that there were at least five other people in front of them.
Luckily the next person in line should be quicker. The woman only had two items, both already checked out and being put in the bag. Yoruichi watched the woman's hand sift through her pockets, quickly pulling out a wallet and grabbing a few coins. When she finished placing them on the counter she watched the cashier count them.
Soon she was out of the store with a single bag, letting Yoruichi and her doctor up to the counter.
"Did you find everything you needed?" He asked, quickly reaching for the first item placed on the counter.
Yoruichi nodded, incentivizing the cashier to proceed.
They had only grabbed a handful of items, each small enough to fit in the same bag. Alongside what Yoruichi saw her doctor pick for her, she saw the items she chose for herself pop up: body-wash, shampoo and conditioner. Up until this point she had been using what the hospital had given her and evidently were used in their showers.
Five days. Five days and she would be out. The commission agents had explained that she would be given her own apartment, all utilities, water and electrical paid for by them. Once every week she would have a supervisor come out to check on her. Honestly, the only ill issue she had with the terms was the supervisor. When she asked about it they mentioned that if she proves to cause little trouble the visits from her guardian would be moved to once every two weeks. It was of little consolation, but it wasn't like she had much of a choice... legally speaking.
Yoruichi had contemplated the thought of just hauling ass the moment she was discharged, but eventually decided against it. She was stealthy and hard to find when trying, but some of the quirks that these heroes had might just prove to be something she would have trouble counteracting. She could hide anywhere she wanted, but so long as there might be a quirk that allows for tracking her location she was against the idea, even if she could evade them indefinitely.
The cashier finished ringing them up, a single bag sitting idly on the counter. She watched Fuyuko scan the card, the transaction being accepted and her picking up the bag.
Yoruichi thought on it more. What would she do? Sure, she vowed to make their lives a living hell, but would that actually beneficial in the long run? Sure, it would be fun, but could also spell hell for her if she goes too far or even does it at all.
She'd think more on it later. Right now, she just needed to move onto the final store.
"This looks cute!" Kaneko commented on the twin sized bed set. It was white and yellow, with cyan highlights. Yoruichi didn't think it looked terrible, but the color scheme just wasn't something she could get along with.
"What about this?" Yoruichi replied, asking for an opinion on the set she had spotted. A tan colored bed sheet with a plaid pattern to it. The stitching to it was a light colored grey that matched the pillow cases.
"You don't want anything... I don't know..."
"Colorful?" Yoruichi added, helping her doctor find the forgotten word.
"Yeah!" Kaneko exclaimed in revelation. "That one just seems to be a bit more boyish, you know?"
"So?" Yoruichi asked. "I mean, don't get me wrong I like color, but it's cheap."
"I suppose so," the doctor agreed. "So are you done? Nothing else we need to grab?"
Yoruichi let out an exhausted yawn. "Yeah. That should be everything."
Yoruichi pulled the small set off the shelf and put dragged it off to the front. After waiting in line for a short few minutes, she had the set scanned and was out of the store.
With all of their purchases in their arms and their ride sharing service stationed just outside the mall, they were gone in minutes.
Four Days Later
There was a knock on her door. Yoruichi was fully healed aside from a small surgical scar that was produced on her leg to push a bone back in place, but that was two weeks ago and the scar itself was almost gone. She sat up in her cot, eyes to the door and called them in.
"Who is it?" She asked.
"It's me," the voice replied. Yoruichi recognized the voice of one of the nurses who would check up on her, Aoi. "I also have guests who'd like to speak with you."
"Do I have a choice?" Yoruichi asked, partially joking.
"It's the commission," her nurse announced, clearly not in the mood for jokes.
Yoruichi suppressed a groan. She shouldn't be surprised they were here; she gets discharged tomorrow.
"Send 'em in!" She announced.
Aoi opened the door letting in two men with suits, one grey and one blue. The entered the room with a friendly greeting before sitting down in two guest chairs they had dragged over from the opposite side of the room.
They introduced themselves by name, but that much easily escaped Yoruichi's ears as she was being engaged by people she'd rather not deal with. Even though Aoi had already announced that they were with the Heroes Commission, they still felt the need to repeat that information themselves.
Yoruichi could already tell how blue-suit didn't want to be there. He spoke quickly and straight to the point, in a position where he was ready to stand up the moment he could leave. His counterpart in the grey suit seemed to be indifferent, neither in a rush to finish their meeting nor did he seem to care how long they took.
She was familiar with grey-suit as he came in with a different partner awhile ago. Even back then she couldn't be bothered to remember his name.
She didn't really like either of them, but disliked grey-suit the least given he seemed to be the least aggressive of the two.
"So as you know," grey-suit started, his speech calm and matter-of-fact, "you will be discharged from the hospital tomorrow. On your discharge you will be guided to the front desk where you will be checked out and be handed off to one of us. After which you will be driven to your apartment.
"Already in your apartment is a bed, fridge and microwave. Any such things like televisions and dressers will need to be obtained alone, or by your guardian-"
"Speaking of, is he or she here right now?" Yoruichi asked.
"No, we haven't chosen a legal guardian to check in on you yet." Grey-suit sat upright in his seat. "Back on topic... things such as the aforementioned will need to be purchased on your own time, with your money or the money of your guardian. You will, however, be given cellphone to keep in contact with your guardian, and your apartment already has closets in the bedroom and entryway."
"Can we hurry this up?" Blue-suit cut in. "I have to pick up some from the airport."
"I'm just making sure she gets all the information she -"
Blue-suit cut him off, leaning in to talk to the girl. "You'll get all the essentials and have enough space to store your clothes which are already back at your apartment. If you want you can spend the last night here or you can leave early and see where you'll be living early."
The man clearly didn't want to wait. His eyebrows were raised, awaiting a quick response. "I suppose I can leave early; rip the bandaid off, you know."
"Alright then," Grey-suit commented, slowly standing up. "If there's any goodbye's you'd like to make, I'd do them now."
Yeah, there were a few. She didn't hide the fact she got close to the hospital staff in her somewhat short time there. She felt especially close to her doctor, but not close in the same sense as Ichigo or Urahara. Orihime or Soi-Fōn. Not even little Byakuya; she still laughed at that.
Granted, she didn't even think Byakuya would be that thrilled to see her. She'd be surprised if he even showed up for her funeral, if they had one for her at all. Maybe everyone thinks she's dead. Maybe she did die. Yoruichi shook those thoughts from her head.
Whatever they were doing up there, it didn't matter. Yoruichi couldn't get home so she doubted they would be able to find her. Even her hopes could only go so far until they reached the realms of fantasy.
Standing from her cot, she lead the two commission agents out of the hospital room and into the halls. To her surprise, Fuyuko was already rounding the corner. She looked surprised to see her, as if the agents had gotten here early.
"Yoruichi!" She sounded happy to see her. Looking behind the Shinigami, Fuyuko saw the blue-suit standing behind her and grey-suit closing the door. She could easily put two and two together, her eyes dropping a bit. "You're... leaving early."
"Yeah," Yoruichi answered, sounding a bit guilty. "Thought it would be best to get it over with. So I guess this is goodbye."
"So it is," the doctor noted. "Goodbye Shihouin-chan." Yoruichi felt her forehead stretch. The doctor did that on purpose, and the way her cheeks touched her eyes showed it.
"Bye," Yoruichi replied. "Maybe you'll get to see me again. I might get into another bind that got me in here."
"Don't," Kaneko firmly replied, still acknowledging the weak jest from Yoruichi.
The two waved each other off, giving a parting glance as they rounded the corner and split away.
The ride to her new apartment was surprisingly long. Granted, blue-suit requested to be dropped off at his home. By the time they reached Yoruichi's residence, forty minutes had passed from when they left the hospital.
She stood just outside of her apartment door with grey-suit (who she still didn't remember the name of). Key in hand, he unlocked the door and- a squatter was in the apartment. Half-naked, only in a pair of boxers and a wife-beater, he yelled at the two, which grey-suit immediately slammed the door shut only after covering the girl's eyes. As if it help because she had already seen.
Grey-suit quickly locked the door and pulled out his phone and dialed 110* into his phone. Quickly the police arrived on scene, entered the apartment and arrested the man.
Unfortunately, due to the fact a squatter was living in the apartment, it had to be sanitized thoroughly. Without utilities being paid for and a man having been in there for an unknown amount of time, who knows what inside it.
Yoruichi should have stayed the extra night.
The sun had reached its highest point of the day. It was beaming down on All Might and Izuku who were halfway done with the beach. It was a long process, but the fruits of their labor would pay off in the end.
Toshinori, currently in the form of All Might, sat atop a refrigerator that Izuku was forced to pull. He was doing considerably better than he was the first time they did it. Still, there was room for improvement.
All Might was distracted though. Instead of watching the work of his apprentice, he was currently having a conversation over the phone. Izuku was too distracted to eavesdrop into the conversation, so All Might felt safer talking about certain topics while still being vague enough to not warrant Izuku's attention. The kid would have to wait for those details.
"Are you sure this is a good idea?"
"Look, I'm not saying that she is. It's possible that I'm wrong, and I honestly hope I am-"
"You just explained all the reasons why you think she is under the wing of this guy. And honestly it makes sense."
"I know... it does. But if I'm wrong I can't let the commissions ruin her!"
"That sympathetic heart of yours will be your downfall, Toshinori."
All Might sighed. "I know. But it's also my greatest strength."
"I'll secede that much."
A quiet hung over both ends of the phone. Neither of them were sure where to pick up next. Still, All Might felt the need to speak.
"Please, trust me on this. Even if she is, I doubt she has any idea what she's gotten herself into-"
"You want to turn your enemy's weapon against him?" The other man on the phone queried.
"And if that's not the case, we gain a potentially powerful ally. She just needs training and guidance."
"With that first sentence, you almost sounded like the whole commission."
All Might laughed at that. "I suppose your right."
His friend huffed before responding. "So you put me in as a recommendation to be her legal guardian so I can push her into going into U.A?"
"Correct!"
"And if she refuses?"
"You're still her guardian. Make sure to watch her closely. Monitor where she goes, watch who she talks to, stay out of sight."
Another sigh from the other end of the phone. "You make it sound easier than it is."
"I know it's a lot to ask, but can you do me this favor? I have my hands tied as it is."
"Yeah, yeah I know. You found a successor but refuse to tell me who."
"You expelled an entire class last year. I'll tell you when the boy passes. And if he's in your class."
"You better, or I'm just going to assume."
"I will. See you in a few months."
"Likewise."
The cellphone beeped and the call ended. Toshinori pocketed his phone and looked at the progress he made. Without even realizing it, Toshinori had found himself at Izuku's end goal and the boy already down at the beach hauling a dishwasher.
All Might smiled. The boy had promise and heart. He was glad he found him when he did, or his potential would have been wasted otherwise.
Toshinori couldn't help but think he made a good choice.
...
AN: So the reason I gave them well over 200,000 yen was because at the time of writing that part of the chapter (I did look this up) 1jpy was equal to 0.0077USD (1usd = 129.82). So giving them 250,000 yen was equal (or should be equal) to 1925.78usd. Because I'm shit at economics and math and can't calculate what the equivalent of 1usd will be to 1jpy two centuries ahead.
So I'm playing devil's advocate and saying it will stay the same. Because I'm not doing math.
• Extra Note 1: I'm planning to at least have the entrance exam to happen by either chapter 4 or 5. But don't get your hopes up because plans change.
• Extra note 2: The casual outfit for Yoruichi is inspired by a picture on the account of LoveAnimeFan on r/Bleach. The source is not him but can be found in the comment's section.
• Extra Note 3: 110 is the emergency phone number for police in Japan.
ONTO THE REPLIES:
YodaManKoda: Thank you for the kind words! I always wanted to do one with Yoruichi and messed around with several ideas. I finally settled on this one after a few months of thinking.
Darkrudy35: Yes she will be keeping her car form. She won't be using it often though, at least not at first. I'm not sure how I'm gonna reveal it yet, but the thought will come along at some point.
Necrogod: Don't forget Bakugo!
ThousandCuts: Thank you for saying that! It means a lot. I do my best to keep everyone in character and I give the same effort to the pacing, but sometimes it can get ahead of me. Though primarily in regards of OOC characters, I feel you. It never sat right with me having a Gigachad Izuku who's so alpha male that even Bakugo wants to sit on his dick.
Guest: I wanted to do that, but could never find a way to make it happen.
That's all for now!
