"You should've seen it," Miranda laughed. "My father was mortified; His natural redhead child mistakenly turned jet black," Andrea leaned against the cold wall, listening intently to the older woman, getting lost in her voice as she wove stories about her youth. What felt like only minutes had turned into what had to have been hours of them swapping stories. It had seemed the pair had almost forgotten where they were until Miranda began a story about her girls. "Oh, Andreá," The editor's eyes filled with tears. "We have to get out of here… What if, whoever did this to us goes after my bobbseys." She broke down, putting her head in her hands. The police officer moved closer to the older woman, wrapping her arm around her pulling her close.
"Miranda, listen to me," She gently grabbed the woman's hands and pulled them away from her face, swiftly wiping away the strayed tears. "The department hasn't heard from me in hours, they are going to come looking for us." Miranda looked up at her with red-rimmed eyes. "Your daughters are safe with their father in another state."
The editor wiped at her own eyes and sat up straight, untangling herself from the younger woman. "We need to make a plan for when he comes back. You can't attack him alone."
The officer thought for a moment. "I have a plan."
The antsy women waited for the man to return for what felt like an eternity. Just when they thought they had lost their opportunity, footsteps became evident outside the door. "Are you ready?" Andrea mouthed and the editor nodded silently in reply. They hear a key jam into the lock as they assume their positions; Both watching the knob visibly turn and as soon as the man enters the room the pair charged, effectively knocking the assailant down. The brunette put her training to use and pinned the man down. "Run, Miranda- Now!" She screamed. The editor ran through the door and up the stairs to another door whilst Andy fought off the man.
Miranda got to the door to only be met with another locked exit. "Fuck!" She yelled. "It's locked!"
She turned around to see the brunette was now struggling to fight off the large male. She watched in horror as he pulled out a handgun. "Andrea watch out!" She ran back into the small room and jumped on the man. Just as she did this the man fired a shot at the police officer. He threw the editor off his back and onto the hard cement floor. Andrea hollered out in pain, grabbing her now bleeding inner thigh. Miranda scurried across the floor to the younger woman. "Oh, God!"
"Stupid fucking cunts. He's going to make you BOTH pay for that." The man left the room, slamming and locking the door behind him.
In a panic Miranda took off her Prada blazer, pressing the fabric on the wound in an attempt to stop the bleeding. "I'm so sorry," Tears pricked at her eyes. "I got you into this mess." The editor tried her best to pull herself together; This time it wasn't as easy as the last. Tears fell onto the officer as she held the blazer to her leg. Andy felt defeated and weak, she looked up to see the frantic older woman over her attempting to wrap the blazer around her bleeding leg. "Miranda," Andrea grabbed the woman's hands, "Stop, honey- I've got it." She grabbed the blazer from the older woman, tearing it with the last bit of strength she had, wrapping it tightly around her upper leg, making herself a tourniquet. "Fuck," She screamed out in pain, the pressure sending pins and needles down her leg. The officer looked to see Miranda had turned white as a ghost. "I need you to take a few deep breaths for me, Miranda." She instructed the editor, who was about to hyperventilate. "Breathe, honey, "I'm fine. Just calm down."
"I-I'm so sor-"
"Shh… Come on, breathe with me… In.." Miranda listened to the younger woman and followed her breathing. "Out…" They repeated this a few times before the editor finally calmed down. Andrea collapsed onto the wall, she was feeling weaker by the minute.
"He just shot you.." Miranda choked out. "I watched him just-"
"Miranda you are in shock, which is understandable; I don't need you worrying about me. I'm going to be just fine. It won't be long now, someone will come looking for us." The officer wasn't so sure of that last statement. She knew how these things went- Investigators and police would be put on the case. If they can get ahold of any witnesses they'll gather information, search teams would be sent out, and forensics if they were lucky enough to have found the car they were kidnapped from. In all honesty, there was no telling when the department would find out where the women were, she just didn't want to further alarm the editor.
The pair sat there in silence Andy spent a long time taking deep breaths, trying her best not to focus on the pain- She didn't want to pass out on Miranda. The editor just curled into herself and leaned against the cement wall. She felt like pacing, adrenaline coursed through her frame, but she didn't trust her legs enough to stand. Not after what she just witnessed. She couldn't imagine what the man would do when he came back.
