Chapter 1
Olympus

"It's a sniper on the right! Move!" Yelled a disembodied voice to a woman of average stature. Her bright blue eyes looked towards the right and saw a fully armored man aiming a sniper rifle at them. Realizing what model it was, she yelled at her teammates, a brown-haired man, and a robot, to duck while she aimed her own sniper at the sniper.

Trusting their teammate, the two ducked as she fired a shot at the sniper, scoring a headshot and taking them down.

"We're clear for now but keep your guards up." Said the woman as she swept a few loose strands of her black hair away from her face as she looked at her surroundings for more enemies.

"No kidding. C'mon, Wraith. We've been at this for years." Said the brown-haired man as he looked at his only female teammate with a wide grin on his face. "No need to tell us basic stuff." The now-named Wraith just rolled her eyes before replying back.

"And yet I have to remind you of even the most basic of things while we're working together, Mirage." Said Wraith as she looked at her tanned teammate, who just spluttered indignantly. The robot, meanwhile, just made a happy face on a screen on his body.

Before people get confused about what's going on, some back story. These three are Wraith, Mirage, and Pathfinder. All three are competitors in a blood sport called the Apex Games.

The Apex Games are run by a criminal enterprise called the Syndicate, which controls a few star systems on the outer fringes of colonized space. The Syndicate hosts the Apex Games to not only acquire money for themselves but also to entertain the masses, who suffered greatly from a war between rebels and the military forces of a mega-corporation.

Anyone can compete so long as they passed the entrance exam, which all three competitors did. In fact, they worked together in order to pass as that was the exam. To see if people can work reliably in a team of three without being a hindrance to the other two team members for the Syndicates top analysts believe it'll give the Syndicate the most money if people saw squads of three fighting as one unit, working together.

After passing that exam and becoming Legends, people of particular renown in the Apex Games, the three become friends. Somewhat disjointed and unorthodox friends, but friends all the same. And right now, the three were participating in another Apex Games, working together to win. If they win, they gain a large cash prize and whatever else they want from the Syndicate within reason. If they don't, well, them living is a consolation prize because the Apex Games have a high mortality rate befitting a blood sport.

"This is most enjoyable friends!" Exclaimed the robot before giving them both a thumbs up. "But we should focus. I think that shot attracted other teams."

"What makes you say that, tin-man?" Asked Mirage, though with no malicious in his voice. Before the robot or Wraith could reply back, they heard the sounds of gunfire coming from where Wraith shot the sniper.

"Alright, let's third-party those chumps! Its about time I third party someone instead of the other way around!" Yelled Mirage with excitement as he brandished his assault rifle in hand. The robot also looked excited at the prospect of doing a third party, but Wraith wasn't sure.

Third-party could end badly if not done correctly. She lost a few matches because of a bad third party, but if coordinated right, they'll get some valuable loot with minimal losses on ammo and supplies. Thinking quickly, Wraith agreed and went in with her team towards the fight.

"Careful, guys, this may backfire on us." Warned Wraith as she brandished a submachine gun in hand, having swapped out her sniper for it.

"Relax, Wraith. We got this." Said Mirage as the three charged up a hill towards a firefight. From the sounds of gunfire, it seemed another team joined and it was starting to get messy. As they got closer to the fighting, Wraith began hearing more and more voices in her head, telling her to stop and retreat. Gritting her teeth, she ignored the voices and charged with her teammates, intending on staying with her team.

Having been experimented on by the IMC, the mega-corporation from before, she received abilities no other humans have. Wraith can move in and out of dimensions as well as hear voices that help her avoid danger. While they were powerful abilities, they came at the cost of occasional migraines and sleepless nights. They also came at the cost of her not remembering who she was on account of the experiments done to her. It was only recently that she knew of her name, Renee Hope Blasey, and what the experiments were about. And all that information only left her craving for more. She participated in the Apex Games to not only receive the money to support herself and her goal of figuring out more about herself but also because the Apex Games frequently visit areas where the IMC used to hold a presence on. As a result, she stayed as a competitor in the Apex Games.

During that stay, she made friends with many other Legends. Two of them were her teammates along with another Legend called Natalie Paquette, who goes by Wattson in the Apex Games. The other legends she's on speaking terms or just barely tolerating, which was only really one. As her mind went to Wattson, she hoped that she wouldn't be facing her today as she didn't really like the idea of fighting her friends.

Upon arriving, her hopes were answered as Wattson wasn't there, much to her relief. That relief, however, soon went away when she saw what was awaiting them.

Turns out, the fighting they heard was a massive four-team fight that was soon restarted when a fifth team arrived to mop up the survivors. And that team is composed of two of the most dangerous legends in the Apex Games and all the Legends.

One of those Legends was a masked warrior by the name of Bloodhound. A veteran of the Apex Games, they held the highest win rate out of all the Legends by a good margin due to their superior tracking skills and sniping abilities. As they finished off a survivor with an ax, another was being finished off by a red-headed woman with a triangle-shaped object on her back.

This woman was Dr. Mary Somers, a scientist that was stuck in a black hole that left her stranded in time for eighty-seven years. She joined the Apex Games to earn money to invest in Time Travel so she can go back in time to reunite with her son. Though a skilled fighter for a scientist, she wasn't the other dangerous legend. No, that went to the robot that was currently snapping the arms of a woman that was close to reviving herself with a special syringe.

This robot was called Revenant. A human assassin turned robot that held over three hundred years of combat experience, surpassing most other Legends in combat proficiency. He held a distinct hatred for all organic life and has violated basic human rights multiple times since his entry to the Apex Games, all of which were ignored or written off by the Syndicate on account of the ratings that Revenant brings whenever he fights in the Games.

Enjoying the screams of pain from the girl he was tormenting, Revenant finished her off with a bullet to the head before looking at the new prey that arrived.

"Well, well. More skin bags to kill." Said Revenant as he tossed the corpse away. Though he was unable to smile, Wraith knew that he would be smiling right now if he could. "Here's hoping that you skin bags can offer more of a challenge than the others." While Wraith just narrowed her eyes at what Revenant said, Mirage was probably pissing himself as he was scared of Revenant and Pathfinder was blissfully unaware of the threat to their lives.

"We'll see about that." Said Wraith before engaging Revenant's team with her own. And so the fight was on.

Realizing that the terrain favored Horizon's preference of gaining the high ground over her opponents with her various gravity and thruster gadgets on her, Pathfinder went after her. Mirage, having an advantage over Bloodhound with his various holographic decoys, which they can't tell the difference between the real thing, went after them. This left Wraith to confront Revenant.

Firing her SMG at Revenant, Wraith tried to keep moving so as to avoid Revenant's built-in launchers that were attached to his arms. They couldn't fire the various types of grenades available to those that compete in the Apex Games, but they were still dead in the fact that they can prevent her from using her abilities, mainly her ability to phase in and out of dimensions and create portals for her and her team to escape firefights. Thus, she had to keep herself from putting herself in a corner, where his grenades can be deadly against her.

Taking cover behind a prefabricated building, Revenant soon returned fire at Wraith with his assault rifle, a Flatline model from what she could see. Knowing its high caliber bullets can shred her body shield with ease, Wraith kept dodging, though she had to avoid a few clear shots at Revenant in order to do so.

Meanwhile, Pathfinder was busy keeping Horizon pinned down with his machinegun.

"Sorry, friend, but I have to help my other friends in achieving victory." Said Pathfinder as he kept Horizon pinned down under some pipes and a supply crate. Grunting as Path's suppressing fire was keeping her from doing anything, Horizon grabbed a cylindrical object painted red, twisted it, causing it to expand, before throwing it at Pathfinder's general direction. Seeing the object coming at him, Pathfinder quickly moved out of the way of the object. Using his arm-mounted grappler, Pathfinder got out of the way of the object before it exploded, releasing a horizontal line of flames where Pathfinder used to be.

Though he didn't get hit, it did give Horizon enough room to move to a better position. Using her jump jets, small triangle-shaped objects that generate thrust, Horizon landed on top of one of the support pillars for a large machine with a portal in the middle of it. Smiling a bit, she fired at Pathfinder with her submachine gun, who was forced to go behind some crates in order to avoid Horizon's return fire. With the tables now turned, Pathfinder wondered what to do to help his team win now.

"There is no need to hide, Mr. Witt." Said Bloodhound as they tried to locate Mirage through a series of prefabricated buildings. "Come and face me honorably. I assure you that we will have an honorable comrade."

"Uh, yeah, considering you're a lot better fighter than me, I would pass on that." Said Mirage as he sent out a decoy to try and fool Bloodhound. Unfortunately, Bloodhound was long used to Mirage's tricks and thus was not fooled. Instead, he looked to where the decoy came from and thus tossed a grenade there. Seeing the grenade coming his way, Mirage sent out multiple decoys at once and went invisible, and ran from Bloodhound, who followed the decoys and the real Mirage outside, where everyone else was fighting.

As the six legends continued on fighting, they all failed to realize that from behind the scenes, a man in a trench coat and green glasses was watching them all from afar with a smile. With all six Legends distracted, he can get commence his plan. Pulling out a small remote from his trench coat, he pressed a button, and soon the portal machine that the legends were fighting at started to blare out alarms.

As soon as they all heard the alarms, the legends stopped their fighting and looked at the machine.

"Danger! Get out of there!" Yelled the voices in Wraith's head causing her to wince at their intensity. Before she could question them, she instinctively tried to follow their directions only to be trapped in when several barriers blocked her path and trapped the legends with the portal machine.

"What in the name of the gods is going on?" Demanded Bloodhound as they looked at the portal machine going haywire and popping out various crates and supplies. Without answering, Horizon went over to one of the terminals that controlled the machine to try and figure out what was going on. The moment she went over to the terminal, however, she was instantly attacked with a surge of electricity and sent flying towards Mirage, sending both of them to the ground. Concerned for their teammates, Bloodhound and Pathfinder went over to help them up, ignoring the fact that they're supposed to be killing one another. As they did so, the machine above them started to spark and go out of control. It even started to go on fire in certain sections.

Upon seeing this, Wraith yelled at her team to get to safety when Revenant started to laugh.

"This all seemed staged, don't you think, girly?" Asked Revenant as he looked at Wraith, seemingly uncaring about what was going on around him. "Who do you think would do this, eh? Lobo by any chance? Or perhaps the Syndicate's new boss? The one that idiot helped get in charge." That comment, combined with Revenant's nonchalant stance on everything caused Wraith to glare at him. Before she could do anything, however, the machine exploded and created a cloud of dust and fire that any surviving combatants of the current game saw, including the one that pushed the button that caused all this.

Smiling a bit, the trench coat man soon began to formulate plans on how to spin this for his own benefit.

Wraith

Groaning as she tried to get up, Wraith found herself on a cold metal floor. Feeling a migraine course through her head, Wraith held her head a bit before the migraine started to subside. Once it did, she looked around her surroundings and found it was completely dark.

As she wondered how the hell she was still alive, recalling a massive explosion that engulfed her and her team, she remembered her team, and they were caught in the explosion as well. Concern filling her, she yelled out Pathfinder's and Mirage's names.

"I'm here, Wraith!" Yelled Pathfinder as his joyous voice permeated throughout the dark room. Relief filling her, Wraith found the robot above her with a smiley face on his chest screen. She was then about to ask where Mirage is when Mirage yelled out.

"Wraith, I'm here with Bloodhound and Horizon. No idea where the scary robot is though. Hopefully, he's gone?" Said Mirage as his voice permeated somewhere below Wraith.

"*Scoffs* You wish skinsuit. I'm still alive and kicking." Said Revenant as his glowing orange eyes gave everyone a source of light besides Pathfinder's screen and own orange optics. Seeing that everyone was still alright and fine, Wraith spoke out.

"Where the hell are we?" Asked Wraith as she wondered where the hell they were. This place wasn't Olympus that's for sure. Even its darkest of places had enough lights to help people see. It was Bloodhound that gave her the answer.

"We appear to be on a ship, Wraith." Said Bloodhound as they walked over to a terminal. Having a mask that held a night vision goggles, Bloodhound saw that they were in some sort of ship. Though what makes, he had no idea. Going over to the terminal, Bloodhound tried to activate it for a few minutes, struggling to do so initially, before figuring out how to do so. Upon booting it up, the entire ship seemed to come alive and suddenly the room was lit up, revealing they were in some sort of engineering bay.

"Oh great, just booting up a terminal made this place come to life." Said Mirage nervously as this all happened. "And this is the part where the creepy zombies come and eat our brains." Rolling her eyes at that, Wraith told Mirage to keep it together before looking at Pathfinder, who used his grabble to come to her and Revenant.

"Hmm…this engineering bay doesn't match any used by the Syndicate or those used by the IMC or Militia during the Frontier War." Said Pathfinder as he observed the bay. "Perhaps it's a civilian model."

"I don't think so, Pathy." Said Horizon, having went over to Bloodhound's terminal to see things for herself and what she found got her a little nervous. "There's some terminology and schematics here that don't match anything used in the Outlands. Heck, there's stuff here that don't match anything that I've ever seen in my entire life."

"What are you saying?" Asked Wraith as she heard this, having a bad feeling about this. Horizon just sighed before asking Pathfinder to tap into the terminal himself. After the robot gleefully granted her request, Horizon asked everyone else to go and take a look at their surroundings.

"Be a dear, darlings, and find out where we are." Said Horizon as Pathfinder looked at the terminal to find a port for him to connect with. "This may take awhile and I don't want you all getting bored. Plus, it'll help us figure out where we are." Agreeing with Horizon, Wraith asked Bloodhound and Mirage to come with her before glaring at Revenant, who just scoffed.

"Keeping an eye on me, girlie?" Asked Revenant rhetorically as he eyed Wraith as she glared at him. She was still armed with the weapons she had on her when that whole explosion occurred at Olympus. Having never liked Revenant because of his criminal background and the fact he intended on killing everyone if he ever got the chance, Wraith kept a very close eye on him whenever the Legends were out at public events. Though the Syndicate kept a close eye on Revenant as well, their security personnel weren't exactly top tier and they stood no chance against a hyper-lethal killer like Revenant, so Wraith kept a close eye on Revenant whenever possible. "*Scoffs* You need the bodies anyway. Not like any of you can take me on one on one." Wraith rolled her eyes at that before waiting for Bloodhound and Mirage to meet up with them. Once they did, the four left to find out where the hell they were.

Later

"Okay, this has to be the bridge, right?" Asked Mirage as the four Legends were inside a large room with various monitors and terminals the size of large flatscreen T.V.s. The ones found in football stadiums. "Look, there's even a captain's seat in the middle that looks over everyone. It's just above two seats that are uncomfortably high up."

Looking at the design of the bridge, Wraith wondered who the hell thought this was a good design. She wasn't an engineer, but the middle seating didn't exactly look safe. If the captain was truly supposed to sit in one of those seats, they could easily fall off and snap their neck or something and that's really bad for a crew. Perhaps this ship was a civilian vessel? Before she could ponder on this more, they suddenly heard Horizon's voice over the ship's intercom, having found a way to access it.

"Dearies, I found our answers on where we are and you're all not going to like it." Said Horizon over the intercom. "I'll meet you all at the bridge with Pathy. You're all will want to hear this. Even Revenant." With that she hung up, leaving the four wondering what she meant by not liking the answers.

"I wonder what the answers will be." Said Bloodhound as they wondered what knowledge Horizon held that they didn't.

"Whatever it is, it can't be good." Said Wraith. If she said that even Revenant wanted to hear it, then it must be something big."

"Oh please, after what we had today, surviving an explosion and whatnot, I think we can handle anything she had for us." Said Mirage with a confident smile. "I mean, what's the worse that can happen to us? We get transported to another dimension or something?"

Later

"Okay, I'm sorry, what?" Asked Mirage as he held his head in confusion while everyone was in shock at what they heard, even Revenant looked a bit perturbed with what Horizon just said. "We've been transported to another dimension?"

"That's exactly what I mean, darling." Said Horizon as she ran a hand through her red hair. "Pathfinder searched this ship's database and he found a lot of interesting stuff. Stuff that doesn't exist in our dimension."

"Correct!" Said Pathfinder, taking over. He then started to show them a picture of a blue planet and a massive space station shaped like an O'Neill cylinder design. Even though all of them have never seen it or been on it, they all knew from the history book that it's Earth, humanity's home planet. "For example, humanity has never achieved space travel, thus restricting the only habitable planet for humanity to be its homeworld, which is Earth! As a result, to diffuse an inevitable overpopulation problem that will arise from only being able to inhabit one planet, the humans in this dimension made orbital space colonies positioned and created to simulate Earth's gravity, thus making it feasible for people to live in space without no detrimental effect on their health."

"Interesting." Said Bloodhound as they heard all this. This was all interesting to hear, but Bloodhound wanted to know if there was a catch to all this and how they can get back home. "But if I may intervene, how will we get back home? My people need the money that I earn from the Apex Games to survive. I must return to help them."

"Yeah, and I got a lot of fans, you know." Said Mirage, voicing his agreement with the question. "I don't want any of them thinking that I'm dead when I'm really not. Although that may raise my approval points and popularity a bit if I do a sudden back-from-the-dead thing. Hmm…"

"That's the bad thing, dearie. This dimension doesn't have the tech needed to even theoretically do so." Said Horizon as she took over. "This dimension is very barebones compared to what we're used to. FTL travel is an obvious one, but things like communications, robotics, and even energy production are at the low end of things. And that's all because, in this dimension right now, we're in the century after the 21st century, meaning tech isn't nearly as advanced as our home dimension. Though this place isn't as low tech as thanks to a certain particle that I find most interesting." She then showed them all a picture of some sort of particle, to which Pathfinder began explaining.

"This here is something called a Minovsky particle. It not only powers most of the technology in this dimension, but it also hinders radar and communications." Said Pathfinder.

"What do you mean, Path?" Asked Wraith, curious.

"The Minovsky particle has near-zero rest mass and can carry either a positive or negative electrical charge. However, when scattered in open space or in the air, the repulsive forces between charged Minovsky particles cause them to spontaneously align into a regular cubic lattice structure that this dimension calls an I-field. This is where things get interesting, my friends." Explained Pathfinder. "When Minovsky particles are spread in sufficient enough numbers in the open air or in open space, the particles disrupt low-frequency electromagnetic radiation, like microwaves and radio waves. They also interfere with the operations of electronic circuitry and destroys unprotected circuits due to their high electrical charge which acts as a continuous electromagnetic pulse on metal objects. As a result, radar systems and long-range wireless communication systems become useless. Infra-red signals are diffracted and their accuracy decreases, and visible light is fogged. This thus caused communications systems to be hardened as a necessity and also radar and long-range communications to not be given the research necessary to develop them further beyond twenty-first-century technology."

"Well, that's most interesting, but I fail to see why we can't go back home." Said Revenant, now getting bored. "Unless I failed at school, communications doesn't matter much for dimensional travel. After all, we got living proof of that." Wraith glared at Revenant at that, insulted. Before a fight can start between the two, Horizon spoke up.

"It matters because it their most advanced piece of tech." Said Horizon as she glared at Revenant, not liking him much either because of his general attitude towards…everyone. "It could be our ticket out of here and back home, provided I get the funding and technology to figure that out."

"And how long will that take?" Asked Bloodhound.

"Depends on when I get some advanced facilities and a lot of money in a quick manner. And how much of both." Said Horizon. "This is science dearie. And science takes time." That caused Bloodhound to sigh along with Mirage, their spirits down. Seeing this, Pathfinder spoke up.

"Don't worry friends, I have a way to get us a good start in achieving our goals!" Yelled Pathfinder with his chest screen showing a happy face. "What we're on is not a ship at all! Rather a space station for a terrorist group!"

"Say what?" Asked Mirage upon hearing that as all eyes looked at Pathfinder, both confused at what he just said and how it was going to help them.

"You see, this space station belonged to a group of terrorists called the Delaz Fleet. They used to be part of an official government called the Principality of Zeon that fought against the current regime called the Earth Federation in a war called the One Year War. But the Principality is defunct now, so the Delaz Fleet is now just a group of terrorists. Or should I see was now that they're all gone? They did some very bad things to this government after the One Year War and now they're all gone, but their stuff isn't all gone. If we can find the Earth Federation and sell them the Delaz Fleet's stuff, we can get so much money and other stuff from the Earth Federation. Then we're one step closer to our goal!"

Upon hearing all that, everyone looked at each other and shrugged.

"Guess it's the best we can do." Said Wraith as she looked at everyone. "So, everyone in on selling what we can find here and selling it to this…Earth Federation?"

"If it means we can find our way home quicker then I will gladly fight beside you all." Said Bloodhound as they nodded at Wraith's suggestion.

"Well, so long as I get fame here too, I'm all for it." Said Mirage with a cocky smile.

"Tch, just as long as I get to kill some skin suits along the way." Said Revenant as he looked around their surroundings.

"Yeah! My suggestion worked." Said Pathfinder as he danced, causing Horizon to chuckle.

"Alright, dearies. Pathfinder and I will be researching more about this dimension we're in. You all go find some stuff here. Hopefully, we'll be able to find a working spacecraft, or else we're in a pickle." Said Horizon, causing everyone to nod in agreement. Once the four other legends dispersed, Horizon looked at Pathfinder and spoke. "Well dearie, let's go and do some more studying about this dimension. I'm quite curious to know more about this Minovsky particle and this One Year War, even though it sounds bloody."

"I also would like to know more. Yeah!" Yelled Pathfinder in excitement. Chuckling at his child-like enthusiasm, Horizon grabbed Pathfinder and led him to a nearby terminal for them to work on.

If anyone has a better name for this fic, I'm all ears. Also, if you want other Legends to show up, please give a review or PM so I know that you want another Legend here, though it'll likely just be the current six for a while.
