"I'm sorry you're sister wouldn't come with us to see you off," Mrs. Evans said, looking to the backseat were Lily was.
"It's fine, mom." Lily replied. She and her sister, Petunia hadn't been getting along very well ever since Lily found out she was a witch. Which was seven years ago.
"Are you sure? Because I can call her so you can talk to her."
"Mom, I'm good. Really." Lily said. "Petunia's free to what she wants." Which was true, considering she was nineteen years old.
"Positive? I'm sure she would want to say bye to you," her mom insisted.
"I said 'Bye' to her at the house, mom. And I'll see her again at Christmas." Lily said, as her dad parked the car.
"Okay," her mom sighed, as they got out of car and unloaded Lily's trunk.
They walked along Kings Cross Station, stopping between Platforms nine and ten.
"Bye," Lily said, hugging bother of her parents. "I'll write to you."
"Every day?" her mom asked.
"Whenever I have the chance," Lily promised.
"Have fun," her dad told her.
"I will, dad. Katie and I have big plans for this year. Seeing as it is our last."
"Well you two behave yourselves," he replied, as she hugged them both once more.
"Bye, I love you." She said, running toward the wall, then disappearing into it.
Lily looked up and saw the Hogwarts Express blowing steam. She smiled, happy to be heading back to school, then went to look for her best friend Katie Daniels.
As she walked through the crowd she noticed people looking at her funny. She just half-smiled at them and kept walking, secretly wondering whether there was dirt on her face or something. But the looks people gave her were more sad, like they pitied her.
Then James Potter, who had been bothering her and asking her out for as long as she could remember, came up to her.
"Are
you okay?" he asked. He was acting nice, not at all the way she
remembered him.
"..Why wouldn't I be okay?" she asked.
"Oh, Lily…" he said. Why did he seem concerned about her? What had happened that she didn't know about. "Lily, last night the Death Eaters got into another house.."
Okay, Lily thought, What does this have to do with me? Why is he telling me this?
"They killed the whole family," he said quietly.
Why do his eyes look so sad and gentle.
"It was in the Prophet this morning.."
Okay, I don't get the Daily Prophet..
"Lily.. It was- It was Katie's family."
What?
"Wh-What are you talking about?" Lily managed to get out.
How could this happen. Katie was at her house just yesterday. She had stayed for dinner. They planned to outprank the marauders this year. Katie wouldn't do this to her, would she?
"Lily, I'm so sorr-"
"You're lying." She screamed. "Why would you tell me something like that! It's not funny!" People were staring at them, now.
"Lily, it's not-"
"Shut up, James!" She was crying now, and everyone was looking. They were staring out the windows of the train. "I was with her yesterday! She helped me pack!"
Barely anyone was left on the platform, yet they were all still watching the scene.
"She's coming!" Lily yelled. "I know she's coming." she added quietly, ignoring the tears that were rolling down her face.
James came and put his arm around her, and they silently walked toward the train.
Everyone in the hallways moved out of their way, and James led them into an empty compartment. Lily stared out the window at the platform, silent tears running down her cheeks.
When the train started to move, she turned to face James.
"W-Why didn't she come? She- she promised me.."
James took her hand and they sat down together.
"We had pl-plans for this year.." She said, burying her head in his shoulder.
"She was supposed to come.. Why didn't she come, James? Why.. " Lily cried until she fell asleep.
