WARNINGS - TRIGGERS - VIOLENCE
Jane doesn't know where she is, but wherever it is, it's like a never ending maze. Corridor after corridor that seems to go on forever. There are no signs, no markings to indicate where she is meant to be going. The only illumination to help light her path in this dark and hopeless place are strip lights, blinking intermittently, making it difficult to see.
Trying to navigate this seemingly impossible maze, stopping she thought she heard a noise.. At first nothing, then she hears it again. Deciding against her better judgement, she creeps closer and closer towards the sound. Her heart starts to beat faster in her chest as she thinks she sees a friend. Cameron! She thinks to herself. "Cameron" she nervously calls out.
Creeping closer to Cameron she sees he isn't facing her. As she nears she slowly places one of her hands on his shoulder to turn him around. "OH MY GOD!" she almost screams out.
The sight of Cameron is awful, his skin is deathly grey, his pupils are white. And across his throat is a horrible deep incision. Blood is pouring out of it. The only thing he says is a garbled "RUN!".
Fleeing down the maze of corridors in fear as hopelessness and panic starts rising inside of her. Turning a corner Jane realises she's hit a dead end. "FUCK!" she screams. Turning around to go back the way she has just come. There is a body of a naked woman laid on the ground. Getting nearer she recognises its Maddie. "Oh God No!" Jane cries. "Not you too" she says. Crouching next to the young woman. Jane is reminded of the similarities between Gail Yeager's body and now Maddie's. Unable to stop the tears falling freely, "I'm...so...sorry" she says "This is all my fault".
Maddie's body suddenly sits upright, knocking Jane off her feet and backwards onto the floor. Feeling absolute fear, Maddies arm rises and points at Jane. "Everyone you love will die" she says. Scurrying back desperately trying to get away from this frightening sight. Regaining some sort of momentum Jane is back on her feet and running once more. Feeling like her heart is going to burst out of her chest as it's pounding so fast. Then she is plummeted into total darkness as all the lights go out. Nothing but an eerie silence descends, only being broken by Jane's panting.
After what feels like an eternity standing in the darkness with only the noise of her heavy breathing for company. The lights come on and in front of her is her own personal evil incarnate... Charles Hoyt, "Did you miss me?" he says with a smirk, quickly seeing the gleam of the scalpel reflect the lights. But he's too quick for her to react, effortlessly slashing Jane's throat. Instinctively she grabs her throat, feeling the warmth of her own blood on her hands as she wraps them around her neck. Unable to stop the never ending flow of blood, she feels her life ebbing away. Falling to her knees trying to somehow keep fighting, she can feel that Hoyt crouches down next to her. Feeling his breath on her ear, "I'm gonna kill everyone you love...one..by...one" he says with a snarl. "Then I'm coming for you Janie" and with that he plunges the scalpel into Jane's heart.
Jane's thrashing her legs and arms that much, that she doesn't register the hard surface she makes contact with. Have I just fallen off of something? She thinks to herself before quickly brushing it aside. HOYT! Remembering him killing her. Making sure to thrash out harder in case he's near her. Feeling the overwhelming urge to try and burrow herself as far as she can into the corner of wherever she is. Hearing a clattering of what sounds like maybe metal or something falling onto the floor. SHIT! He's Coming! Needing to push away from him until she feels a hard, solid surface against her back making it impossible to escape any further. Think Jane! Think! She says to herself like a mantra. Still feeling confused and overwhelmed. The last thing she was expecting was to feel someone touching her. Her head is telling her it's Hoyt so she tries to hit out at a last attempt to try and hurt him. Fighting with every last ounce of energy she has slowly feeling it fade away, until she starts to recognise the voice. It's Maura.
"Jane Baby, come back to us" she hears someone say. Trying to focus her vision, squeezing her eyes shut as if almost erasing the horrible images of her head friends. The face in front of her becomes more clearer and recognisable. Feeling her body start to relax and her breathing more under control. "Maura" she eventually manages to get out.
The smaller woman in front of her throws her arms around her and envelopes her in a hug. Feeling the urgency in the touch, feeling like Maura is going to squeeze her to death. Gently releasing herself from her wifes grasp, trying to make sense of everything. Looking at Maura, Jane slowly starts to scan the room. She knows she's in some sort of medical room, but doesn't remember how she got there. Scanning the faces around the room, she can see various people dressed in white. Assuming they are doctors, nurses maybe even orderlies'. But the looks on their faces and their body language is telling her they are ready to pounce. Scanning the room for her first attacker her eyes fall on the one holding a syringe. Is that for me? She thinks to herself. Feeling her body tense getting ready to fight her eyes see the familiar old face of the man whom she always thought of as a father. But his body language is telling her one of hopelessness or even loss. Looking into his eyes which are filled with sadness and concern etched on his weathered face. "Korsak?" she says hoarsely, feeling her pulse starting to quicken at the anxiety starting to rise in her chest. What the hell is he doing here? She thinks.
Stepping forward Korsak kneels next to Maura. "Yeah kiddo, what are you doing on the floor?" he asks, trying to lighten the mood.
What! Jane is confused about what he means. Then she catches sight of her bare legs and feels the cold tiles beneath her. Please don't let me be naked! Please don't let me be naked! Relief washing over as she notices the hospital gown and then the bed. So that's why my arse hurts, she thinks. I fell out of bed. Next to the bed, lying on the floor is a little table with a pitcher and a cup, realising that during her 'fight' she must have knocked it over which caused the clattering noise earlier.
Gently placing a hand underneath Jane's arm, Korsak slowly helps her get up off the floor. He can read the brunette's face wondering why he is here. "Maura called me Jane, I came as fast as I could" he says trying to hide the sadness in his voice. Once he has helped her walk over to the bed he lets Maura help her wife get back into it. Once she has made sure she is comfortable, the blonde notices that the room is now emptying of all the medical staff. Carefully she asks "Jane, sweetheart, what do you remember?" she says whilst brushing a stray strand of hair behind her wifes left ear.
"I remember being at home with you….then there was knock at the door...Jane says feeling her cheeks start to flush at the memory of trying to have sex with her wife before they were interupted.
Seeing Jane flush, Maura knows at which memory and tries not to show any embarrassment "And then what?" she asks. Studying her wifes face as she sees no recognition and then fear.
Jane sees the looks that both Maura and Korsak are giving her. She can see the concern in their eyes. "I…..I can't remember….why can't I remember?" Jane says, starting to feel agitated and scared by the lapse of memory. Clearly something bad has happened, yet she feels fine in herself physically. So what the fuck has happened?
Maura can see the panic starting to rise in her wife. "Ssh Jane...It's going to be ok" she says whilst rubbing Jane's leg to calm her. Once she sees that it is working she continues "Something terrible has happened" she says. Swallowing the lump that is forming in her throat trying to get the words out.
Korsak can see that his friend is finding this difficult, placing his hand on the blondes arm to indicate he's got it from here. "Jane...I'm really sorry but Cameron is dead" trying to read her expression he continues "and….Maddie is missing".
Hearing this only confirms her nightmare was true. "Maddies dead too" Jane says solemnly.
"Jane...you can't know that," Korsak says, trying to be hopeful but in reality, all his years as a homicide detective told him she's probably right.
Looking at her old friend with sadness in her eyes. "I do ...Hoyt showed me," Jane says.
Maura turns to look at Korsak, displaying the same level of concern on his face. Fearing that Jane's mental stability has been pushed too far and is starting to unravel. Turning back to look at her wife "Jane...sweetheart….Hoyt is dead" she says ever so softly.
Jane can't explain it but the anger seems to come from nowhere. And before she can stop herself it bubbles to the surface. "I FUCKING KNOW" she shouts "I was the one that put a scalpel into that bastards chest" she says.
"Please Jane...Calm down" I'm only trying to help" Maura says feeling helpless but also on the defensive as she doesn't deserve to be Jane's emotional punching bag.
This just makes Jane feel even more angrier. "Don't tell me to calm down…..my own fucking personal monster is out there...yet again...after I ended him...killing...again" she says through shortness of breath. She feels like she can't breath, her chest is tightening in her chest.
The blonde looks at the older man and he understands that she wants him to leave the room to try and save her wife from letting anyone see her like this. "Sweetheart...take slow breaths...focus on me" she says. "You're having a panic attack...tell me how many fingers you have" Maura asks.
Through shallow breaths Jane follows her wifes instructions "Ttten...ten..fingers" she managers to get out.
"Good" Maura says "Now arms"
"Two…..two arms" Jane manages to stammer out. Feeling like her jaw is locked in place.
Maura can see that Jane's breathing is slowly returning to normal. "Now eyes" she commands.
"Two" Jane says clearly. Controlling her breathing and bringing it under control.
Leaning forward, Maura comes close to Jane's face "And beautiful they are '' she says before planting a delicate kiss on her wifes lips. Then placing her forehead onto her wifes and they stay like that for what feels like forever. Nobody speaks until the silence is broken by an apology.
"I'm sorry" Jane says, sounding guilty and ashamed of herself for taking out on her wife.
Breaking the contact Maura looks directly into her wife's eyes "It's ok, I'm not going nowhere" she says.
"I don't know what to do….I'm scared" Jane finally confesses to her wife.
