*So...I lied! This short is not Hawaiian Vacation. That comes next. This one shot comes a year after Jessie and Buzz's wedding, only a few weeks after the gang arrived at Bonnie's, so I'd say more like a week since they arrived (I know, the timeline between stories doesn't make sense, I'm sorry for that!) Basically, it's before the events of Family reposted. It's about Woody not getting over the events at Sunnyside.*
Woody was running, from what he had no idea. But he was running like his life depended on it. When he got to where he needed to be, he looked around and saw discardedtoy parts. But when he looked closer, he saw that they weren't just any toy parts, but parts that belonged to his friends. He saw Bullseye's body and legs ripped apart to the right of him. To the left were chopped up pieces of Mr. and Mrs. Potato head. Hamm was broken in two, Slinky's springs had been stretched out and tied in a knot, and the aliens were all squashed flat. Horrified, Woody kept waking forward and saw in the center of the room, his sister ripped to shreds. He ran to her and lifted her head.
"Jess? Jessie! Can you hear me?" He asked.
"She's gone, Woody." Woody got up and turned. He gasped when he saw his best friend, Buzz, his arms and legs torn out of their sockets. Just his body and head were still intact.
"Buzz! What happened to you?" He cried, holding his friend.
"You. You, did this. You left us. Left us all to die!" Buzz said before gasping and falling limp in the cowboy's arms.
"No. No, this is not my fault. I didn't do this!"
"Oh but you did, Woody." The sheriff turned around once more and saw Lotso. "You left your family, after promising them they would all stay together. You broke promise and left them to die. You killed your friends and you killed your daughter!"
"My, my daughter?" A light flicked on and Woody turned a third time to see Rosetta, her arms and legs broken off, her cloth body ripped open and her head cracked. Woody jumped back in horror and began to fall backwards, landing in piles of chopped up trash. He was in the incinerator again. He tried to climb up, but kept slipping. He heard a sinister laugh and looked up. Lotso was looking down on him, as well as the ghosts of his family.
"You left them, Woody. Now you must pay the price." The fire behind Woody began to grow in size, ready to swallow him whole.
"NOOOO!" Woody screamed.
"No! No!" In the corner of Bonnie's room, Rosetta woke up to the sound of screaming. Looking up, she saw her father curled up in a ball, holding himself and screaming. She thanked god Bonnie was at her grandma's this week, or else she would've heard him.
"Daddy?" She said softly. Getting up, she went over to him and shook his shoulder. "Daddy wake up."
"No. No, please. Please. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. Don't leave me here!" Woody continued to yell. Rosetta looked around the room and saw Buzz and Jessie sleeping on the bean bag chair. Rushing over, she shook her uncle's arm.
"Uncle Buzz, wake up." She said. Buzz woke up and looked at her.
"Huh? Rose? What's wrong sweetie?" He asked.
"It's dad. He's having a nightmare and I can't wake him up." Jessie heard and sat up.
"Oh no. Do you think it's about what happened at Sunnyside?" She asked.
"One way to find out." Buzz said. They jumped down and went back over to Woody. By now, rest of Andy's toys had woken up and were all surrounding Woody.
"Can you please shut him up? I was having a good dream." Potato Head said.
"Show some compassion, honey. The poor dear is having a nightmare." His wife said. Buzz went over to Woody while Jessie held onto Rose.
"Woody? Woody, wake up. It's Buzz. Can you hear me?" Woody kept his eyes closed.
The fire formed into a monster and dove down towards Woody. It began to wrap around his legs like two tentacles and started to pull him down closer and closer to the flames.
"No! Let me go! Please let me go. Guys, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. Woody cried. I didn't want to leave. Please help me!" He saw each of his friends float away, leaving him to die. "No! Please don't leave me!" No!"
"WOODY!" The cowboy felt strong hands grasp his shoulders and slam him against the wood floor, causing him to wake up. He opened his eyes wide and saw Buzz looking down at him. Woody looked left and right and saw his friends looking at him, terrified.
"What, what happened? Where am I!?" He asked, gasping. He sat up, frantically looking around. Buzz held onto him.
"Calm down, buddy. You're okay. Buzz said calmly. You're in Bonnie's room, remember? The little girl that took us in? Andy passed us onto her?"
"I'm, I'm not at Sunnyside?"
"No Woody, you're not. You're safe." Woody looked at him, and then looked at his friends. When it finally clicked that he was indeed safe, he pulled his knees to his chest and broke down, hyperventilating.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." He said over and over.
"Woody, you have nothing to be sorry for." Jessie said, sitting down next to him, taking Rosetta in her lap.
"Yes I do! I l left all of you! I left you all to die!" Jessie gasped softly and looked at Buzz.
"Oh boy." Potato head said quietly, looking at Woody, concerned. Buzz placed a hand on his friends shoulder.
"Is that what you were dreaming about? That we were all..."
"Yes!" Woody cried, not looking up at anyone. "I saw all of you, broken and disfigured and dead! And it was my fault!"
"Woody that's not true. Who even would tell you that?" Jessie said. Her brother snapped his head up to look at her.
"Buzz." He turned to look at the space ranger. "In my dream, you told me that I killed you, that I killed all of you! Because I left! I left you there to die! And then Lotso told me I killed all my friends and my daughter, and Rosetta too was in pieces, dead! Next thing I know, I'm back in the incinerator, looking at your ghosts, and your all watching me get pulled down by a fiery monster. And I keep calling out, saying 'Don't leave me!' and you ignore me!" He begins to hyperventilate once more and puts his head down. All of his friends look at one another, shocked.
"Wow. That, that was, a lot." Hamm said. Potato Head stayed quiet and grasped his wife's hand. Slinky went over to Woody and lay his head down by his feet. Rose got up off Jessie's lap and touched his arm. Woody stirred and looked down at her. Dropping his knees, he crossed them and pulled Rosetta into his lap, holding her.
"I'm sorry, for waking you all up. God I feel so embarrassed." Woody said quietly.
"No need to, bro. We know what happened at Sunnyside took a toll on you. Jessie said. It affected all of us, but you got the brunt of it. Plus it's only been a week since it happened, it's only fair that that the nightmares are happening to you now."
'You, you all know I wouldn't have left you there to die though, right? I would never do that, to any of you."
"Of course we know that, Woody. Buzz said. But remember, you didn't leave to spite us, or anything like that. You left to remain loyal to Andy. We were the ones who wanted to stay. We were the ones that didn't think Andy was going to want to keep us. It wasn't your fault. You put yourself between us and Lotso, taking all the hits so that he wouldn't hurt us. You protected us. If you hadn't, then maybe yeah we would've...You know what, I'm not going to say that. The point is, you are not to blame for what happened at Sunnyside and we are all here because of you. No one is going anywhere, you hear me? We are here, we are together, and there is nothing on earth that will ever break us apart." Woody looked at him and a small smile formed on the cowboy's face.
"Thanks Buzz." Woody said. Buzz reached over and placed his hand on top of Woody's.
"We've got your back, partner."
"Till the very end." Jessie said, placing her hand on top of theirs.
"Forever." Rosetta said, putting her hand on top.
We second that." Slinky and Rex said.
"Us too." Hamm and Potato Head said. They all put their hands on top of Woody's, as well as Mrs. Potato Head, the Aliens, and even Bullseye put a hoof on top. Woody's smile grew bigger. He kissed Rosetta's forehead and looked at all his friends.
"I love you guys, so much." He said. They broke hands and Jessie hugged him, as did the rest of them. They spent another hour chatting before they all fell back to sleep around Woody, never leaving the cowboy's side.
*Okay, I apologize for how graphic I got during the nightmare, but I wanted to get a lot of detail into it just so you could see how much it affected Woody. I may do another one to counteract the events from Family Reposted. Hope you enjoyed it. Till next time!*
