Another chapter of my not-so-good fic.

Subaru was left alone in the dining hall. His thoughts turned to the state of his current situation as he sat in the same chair as before.

'Shoot! I used the copy thingy without thinking. I still have a lot of questions about this ability. Can't you just tell me everything ghost-san?! No more than 2? I can copy 2 abilities within intervals? Or is it using only two abilities at the same time? Arghhh! '

Subaru stood up and walked towards the door. As he exited the room, he noticed the pink-haired maid standing beside the door. The maid turned around and looked at Subaru. She started giving him a cold glare which made him uncomfortable.

"Err…Ram? That's your name right?" Asked Subaru as he scratched his head. It was getting more and more uncomfortable for Subaru as time passed. The maid, Ram, continued to stare without replying.

"Ha…Haha... I guess I'll take my leave now." Said Subaru awkwardly.

"You will be working as a guard for the time being. Patrol the manor until tomorrow morning. Protect the mansion even if it costs you your life. These are direct orders from the lord of the mansion. Consider this as a part of your test." Said Ram without letting Subaru ask her even a single question. She bowed and left Subaru at the door of the dining room. Subaru just stood there with his mouth wide open. All he could say after this was

"Whaaatt?!"

—-

"So, now I am a guard. No weapons. No rest till tomorrow morning. Isn't this a bit harsh? Is this how you treat the savior of a royal candidate?"

Subaru's mind wandered as he walked in a random direction through the mansion's corridors. He had no idea where he was, what he was doing, and why he was doing this.

"Does the patrolling of the mansion include all of the rooms?" Subaru questioned himself. He chose a random room to enter. He approached the door, opened it, and examined the room he had just entered. He deduced that it was a storage room based on what he saw. The room was crammed with stuff. There were buckets, mops, a few boxes scattered about, a few spare vases, a few paintings, and an object covered in black cloth with a small piece of paper on top of it and-

'Woah Woah, hold on a sec'

Subaru looked back at the object covered in black cloth. He walked towards it and examined the paper on top of it.

"This..this is…."

Subaru picked the paper and read it.

To Subaru,

From Ghost-san

It was written in Japanese.

'From ghost-san? Where did he come from? How did he get this huge thing here? Why keep this here? What even is this? Wha-' There were hundreds of questions Subaru wanted to ask. But he just kept those questions at the corner of his head and looked at the object covered in black cloth. He lifted it, expecting it to be heavy but

' Light. It's light, light as a feather '

He unwrapped it to take a look at the thing given to him by none other than ghost-san.

'Oh boy….'

There was a sword in it. A long sword. (Is this accurate?)

"...okay….thanks? I guess. I need a weapon. But this is…" Subaru picked up the long sword and examined it.

He unsheathed the sword and held it with his right hand. It was a long, curved single-edged sword, with a long enough grip to accommodate both of his hands.

'Isn't this a katana?'

Subaru's mood lightened up upon holding a katana in his hand. 'Man I always wanted a katana! And now I am holding one in my hand'

Subaru swung the sword in a random direction, admiring the design and perfection of the katana.

'Hmm…. let's name this beauty, now shall we.'

The sword's grip was a combination of orange and black, matching his tracksuit perfectly. The scabbard was black, all black, with an orange metal tip.

'What should I name it? What should I name it?...ahh…Ummm…'Subaru paused for a moment to think. He had a few names in mind. He finally settled on a name after weeding out the ones that didn't sound cool.

"Enma" said Subaru aloud. As Subaru spoke the name of the katana, the lower part of the blade shone brightly, blinding Subaru for a few seconds. As the light faded, he noticed something written on the bottom of the blade.

'Was that supposed to happen? Was this inscription always there? I can't read it. Is it written in the language of this world?'

There was something written on the scabbard too. But Subaru couldn't read it. The letters were similar to the alphabet he saw in the shops of the capital. So he assumed it was written in the language of the new world he is in.

'Maybe naming this sword after a sword from anime was a bad idea…but at least it sounds cool'

Subaru sighed. There was no explanation for the sword, why it just shone brightly, or his copy ability. It was becoming more and more puzzling and complicated.

'…but why would ghost-san give this to me?' thought Subaru as he sheathed his katana.

He left the room, holding the katana in his right hand and the note in his left. The sun was setting and it was nearly dark outside. He kept patrolling while examining the note. When he flipped the note over, he noticed more writing on it.

'There is more?!'

He read

This is a useless piece of junk from my trash can. You can have it.

Good luck

Subaru came to a halt and stood motionless after reading it.

'Piece of junk?'

"...you…you.."

"DO YOU EXPECT ME TO USE GARBAGE FROM YOUR TRASH CAN?" Subaru yelled, "YOU SON OF A MONKEY!" as he threw the katana as far as he could. It landed at the end of the corridor, far away from Subaru. Subaru was enraged. He crumpled the note he was holding and tossed it away as well.

Subaru screamed, "How dare you?!" He walked in the opposite direction after turning around. He walked faster and faster, allowing his rage to consume him, but he came to a halt when he felt something. He felt as if he was being watched.

*clank* *clank*

A few seconds later he heard a sharp, hard, nonresonant sound, like that produced by two pieces of metal striking, one against the other. As time passed, the sound became louder.

Subaru didn't like how he felt. He took a step back, away from the clattering. But fortune was not on his side. He staggered backward and fell.

'Shit' Subaru looked back to the spot where he had thrown his sword.

'I need the sword! Where is it?!'

The sword was at the far end of the corridor. The text on the scabbard was gleaming. It began to vibrate and...float in the air. It flew straight for Subaru's hand, but it was too late.

'I need it right now-'

*squash*

The last thing he heard was the rattling of chains.

Ahem…I don't know whether you like this fic or not, thanks for reading anyway.

It's short, so sorry.

The name of the sword...I searched 'good names for a katana' and picked a random name. haha..haha
