Chapter 6
Hey guys. I have been trying to get my ideas flowing easier, but I keep managing to stump myself with my Greater Good Dumbledore. Surprises in this chapter, hope you enjoy it.
Amelia and Caster sat back in the DMLE directors office after the trials. It had been a rough day, what with having to blow one of their trump cards to overturn Dumbledore's control of the judicial side of the government. The tow were laughing about their success when a tall blonde man walked in.
"Ah, Regent Potter. just the lady I was looking for." He said.
"As you clearly did not knock, I'm going to assume you believe yourself above simple courtesies. What ever may I do for such a rude man as yourself." Caster frowned as she looked at the man.
"My name is Lucius Malfoy. I believe we can benefit mutually by betrothing our children together." The air turned sour as he sneered. "Only the finest will do for such an esteemed figure in our world, and who better than a member of the Most Noble house of Malfoy."
"Denied."
Lucius puts a hand on his cane while narrowing his eyes. "It was not a request. With the next bill to be passed, all heiresses of Noble or higher ranked families will be required to be betrothed."
"Not a chance. Do remember that as I am Regent to both Pendragon and Le Fey, I can veto any bill, and the one you just mentioned is top of my veto list. I already know what you are trying to do. You want to have my daughter married into your family to both give your master easy access to her, and to get her wealth and titles. You may be the first to try this, and won't be the last. I have already set up a ward that redirects any and all marriage contract offers to our fireplace, which proceeds to burn them on account that I would rather see Vivian marry for love." Caster stated. "You and your ilk who took that mark need to learn that all you did was brand yourselves with a slave brand when you took his mark. That is also not mentioning the fact of why your family is banned from France. I am well connected, respected, and honest with those I speak with. the same cannot be said about the family of 'Bad Faith.' You, Lucius Malfoy, are wanted dead or alive in five countries, with only the British Minister of Magic vouching for you. I would reconsider who you wish to use a name to threaten. Just one of my daughters could beat your allies in the Dark Lord's ranks by themselves."
"You would best be to learn your place, Woman. Under the heel of men who are your betters."
"I do believe we are done here. See to your family's well being before threatening me and mine. I shant warn you again."
Lucius left sneering, as Amelia and Caster stood.
"That man always gets on my nerves." Amelia rubbed her head as she sighed. "If it were not for you keeping the Auror Department from having budget cuts due to the public knowing you support us, we wouldn't have the manpower to be ready for when You-Know-Who returns."
"Call him by his actual name, Amy dear." Caster motioned as the two walked to the Floo ports in the ministry. "He is not even a real lord. Do remember that Eri is able to speak with the spirits of the deceased. Thanks to her and the Goblins, we know his birth name is Tom Marvolo Riddle. While I would love nothing more than to send Eri out to search for his soul shards, she is tied down at her library job. She did say that she will be teaching Eu how to commune with the spirits by the time she enters fourth year. At that point we should be able to send her out to find the remaining shards."
"True enough. You said you had a meeting with Arthur and Molly Weasley?" Seeing Caster nod, Amelia continued her thoughts. "Your meeting should go well. Arthur is a good man. I will see you at home, Caster." The two parted ways, with Caster looking to see the damage she would need to undo.
September 4, 1991 Burrow
Caster arrived at the Burrow ten minutes ahead of schedule through the floo to be geeted by Molly Weasley.
"Regent Potter, I wasn't expecting you just yet. Please come in. Would you like some tea?" The stout mother of seven offered.
"Water is fine. I prefer to be early as it lets those who are waiting on me to not have to worry if I will show or not." Caster noticed the clock on the wall. "I must say, that is a nifty clock you have there. I need to get one of those for my family."
"Oh that silly thing? Arthur made it for me so I would be able to know what my children are up to. Keeping up with six boys and a girl is not easy." Molly placed a glass in front of Caster.
"We do have one bit of common ground at the moment." Caster took a sip of water. "We are both mothers of multiple children. Where as I see one set of twins for you, I have two. Jeanne and Jealter couldn't be more opposite. Eri and Isha are roughly the same, but on better terms with each other." Arthur came in through the front door at that moment.
"Molly, I'm home. Oh, Regent Potter, was that meeting today?" Arthur put his briefcase down. "I was sure it was next week?"
"No Mister Weasley, it was today. We spoke about it last week."
"Ah yes, do forgive me for forgetting." He sat down at the table with his wife and Caster. "So what can I do for you?"
"Would it be alright if we used first names? It would make our meeting go so much faster. Do feel free to call me Caster."
"Of Course, please call us by name. If you feel it will make this meeting go faster, we will do so."
"Thank you Arthur." Caster nodded. "Now the purpose of this meeting has multiple points. Please do not interrupt me as I would like to get home sometime today and it has already been a long day. The first point is that there was an illegal marriage contract written up for Vivian and Ronald by Albus Dumbledore. What made it illeagal is that Arthur and I are the only two who can legally sign a contract for our children. That point is null and void as I will not sign one for Vivian. Her birth mother wanted her to fall in love on her own, not be forced into a contract. The point I am here for, is more to do with the charms and potions that have been fed to you, Molly. They are making you fanatically loyal to Dumbledore, and Lily noted in one of her journals that the only reason she didn't like you, was because you were not being yourself."
"You believe Molly is under charms and potions to make her loyal to the Headmaster?"
"Preposterous. You are out of your mind." Molly raged.
"Not so. I have been looking you over for some time now, and I can assure you with accuracy that you are being charmed and potioned. the one who made the potions is now dead, so Dumbledore will have to outsource if he wants to keep her under his thumb that way." Caster took another sip of water. "I know you won't believe me, so I scheduled and paid for an appointment with the healer that handles all of Vivian's medical check ups. She will be in tomorrow all day. Tell the receptionist that Regent Potter sent you to see Healer Abbot, and they will get you taken care of. I have looked into many things over the years, and you are not beyond being saved Molly. I want to help you for your children. Vivian and her friends have taken quite the liking to Fred and George, so I will do what I can to see their mother helped out. Ronald on the other hand is too far into Dumbledore's pocket. I don't see him changing even if all three of us were to try to steer him in the right direction. My part has been said, and I will leave you with this food for thought. Do get yourself checked at the same time Arthur. It may do you some good." With that said, Caster stood and left through the fire place before anyone could do much to dispute her words.
September 29, 1991 Hogwarts
Vivian, despite her annoyances with the headmaster and two of her Slytherin classmates, was enjoying her time at Hogwarts. True to form, people tried to befriend her for her titles once it was revealed she was Heiress of the lines of Pendragon and Le Fey. She turned down many people for that reason, as she could tell by looking at their eyes what their intentions were, or by reading their body language. She laughed internally as she tought of the apology she got from the matriarch of the Weasley family. Turns out, Molly and Arthur took Caster's advice, and found they were both under charms and potions to make them fanatically loyal to the headmaster. Caster told Vivian that Amelia had added the reports to the ever growing file of Dumbledore's misdeeds.
Thinking of her classes, she wore a small smile. Vivian loved most of her classes, except for history and defense. Binns, the ghost professor, never called her by her name, instead called her Lady Hellscythe, which would have made most try to find out who that was, if the person Vivian received that title from hadn't stayed so far out of history books that there was nothing known to the public about her. Aside from that, he never taught anything that wasn't about the Goblin wars. Quirell, her defense teacher, was an absolute joke. Not one of his classes could be understood fully due to his stuttering.
Her other teachers loved her. Prof. Sprout always had a joyfull heart when Vivian helped her fellow student, not limiting her help to her housemates. Prof. Flitwick nearly jumped out of his seat when she put Jealter on the ceiling for trying to start a fight with Jeanne on the day they were to learn the light charms of Lumos and Nox. Prof. McGonagall would have given her points for a perfect example of spellwork, if she hadn't turned the youngest Weasley into a Popsicle once again when he told Hannah once again to drop dead.
She'd thought he would have learned the first time. Apparently, she gave him too much credit.
Today they were set to have their first flying lesson. Vivian would have worn a bright smile if doing so wouldn't put those around her in danger due to her overflowing amount of magic. She looked at her friends to gauge their reactions. Susan, was happy, though the fact she was playing exploding snap with Jealter while they waited for their teacher was another story. Jeanne was currently trying, and failing to calm Hermoine down, as Sakura and Hannah sat beside Vivian.
"Doesn't this remind you of that time we flew to Italy that one summer?" Sakura asked as she pointed at Jeanne and Hermione.
"It does, if only because we all know how Mione is about heights. Don't forget that everyone is entitled to their own fears. Susan has her fear of thunder, Mione is afraid of heights, you and dark rooms, and me losing control of my magic. Though all of you also are afraid of me saying one word out loud."
"We don't talk about mine, Eu." Sakura pouted adorably at Vivian. "You and I both know what was in that room, and I would prefer not to have to remember my time there."
"What are you talking about, what room?" Hannah tilted her head as she looked at Sakura.
"It is a bad memory, and that is all I am going to say on that matter. Eu knows better than to bring it up." Sakura sighed as she calmed down. "I'm sorry, I don't normally lose my temper like that. Normally the hot-headed member of our circle of friends is Susan."
"Hey, I am not." Susan looked away from her game, and got punished for it by getting the exploding part of the game.
"My win, Red. Sakura does have a point though, you normally are the first in the group to lose your temper, except when death is brought into the mix, then it is Eu that does so."
Before more could be said, Madam Hooch walked into the courtyard. "Good afternoon class. Welcome to your first Flying lesson. Translators, please step back to Miss Potter's side." Jeanne and Jealter did as instructed. "Well, what are we waiting for? Everyone step up to your brooms." She waited as all the students got nest to a broom. She noted the nervousness in both Hermione and Neville. "Now, everyone raise your right hand over your broom and say up."
"VIVIAN/EU DON'T SAY UP!" Six voices shouted out before anyone could say a word as Jeanne grabbed Jealter's arms.
"Are you crazy, Teach? Are you trying to put all of your students, yourself, my twin and me into orbit?" Jealter growled at Madam Hooch.
"What do you mean?"
Jeanne spoke up. "What my twin means is that by telling Vivian to say up while we are outside the castle is a quick way to find people floating into the sky to never be seen again due to her magic empowering her words and emotions. It is why we are here as translators for her to use sign language."
"I was told by the headmaster that having her speak was a must and that everything would be fine."
"The old goat has been trying to set Vivian up to become known as the next dark lady ever since Mother got him fired from two of his positions. He likes to control things like a chess master, and Vivian is the pawn he wanted to play to his tune." Jealter frowned in Hooch's direction.
"Take that back, you dark bint." Ron yelled at Jealter. "Dumbledore is a great man, the greatest wizard in the world. Everything he does is for the Greater Good. Opposing him means you are evil. Vivian shouldn't be hanging out with the likes of you, so get lost you bint."
"Sixty points from Slytherin, and detention for the next three weeks. You have been on thin ice all year so far, Mister Weasley, and the ice is melting." Hooch was having none of Ron's attitude.
"Hmph, you think I care? All who don't follow Dumbledore are dark, and should just do all us light side followers a favor and die."
The temperature around Vivian dropped thirty degrees, as a flash blizzard started. Vivian looked at Ron, a GLARE visible on her face.
"Jeanne, get between Eu and that idiot!" Jealter flared her flames around everyone else. "Eu is enraged! We need to calm her down!"
"The only ones who were able to do so when she got like this were Eri and Mother." Jeanne hollered back before she ran to Vivian and wrapped her arms around her. "I know you are angry, Eu. His words are hurtful, and he doesn't quite understand the grave nature of those words, but you need to reign in your anger."
A voice called out from above. "Hey, Look out below!" Two figures dropped from the sky fast. one landing fine, the other crashing into the youngest male Weasley. "Ow, why do I almost always crash land when going that fast?"
"Because you are an idiot, sis." A blonde looked about the scene. "Ah, no wonder I felt I needed to be here today." The blonde walked over to Vivian and looked her in the eyes. Silence took the area as the blizzard died down to a light snow dusting. "There, there. No need to get so worked up. Let me guess, someone said others should leave the realm of the living, didn't they?" Vivian's nod was all the answer she got as she took Vivian from Jeanne's arms and held her. "Shhh. It's okay, Eu. No one here is going to be joining the land of the dead just yet. It's okay." Vivian wrapped her arms around the blonde.
"Perfect timing, Eri. A few more minutes and my flames would have been put out." Jealter walked over to Ron and grabbed him by his shirt collar. "You are a complete idiot, Weasel. You have been turned into an icicle multiple times, all for saying that people should die around Vivian. She has seen death up front. She knows how painful it is to die thanks to her magic letting her feel it. She nearly lost all control over her magic due to you and your big mouth."
Draco mouthed off at that moment. "As long as those losing their life are those mudbloods, it doesn't matter any one important."
Jeanne slapped him on the back of his head. "I would show a bit of appreciation to the fact that Eri got here when she did. If Isha hadn't brought Eri, the entire castle and all in it would be suffering from a blizzard that would only end when Vivian's rage had been quelled. Vivian hates losing her emotions like that. Your opinion on this matter is to be kept quiet for the rest of your time here at Hogwarts when you are anywhere near Vivian."
'He should be honored to be left alive after touching me." Isha popped off. "Normally I would demand payment for touching me."
"Not the time for that Isha." Eri pulled out of the hug she had with Vivian. "Feeling better?" Vivian's nod was once again all the answer she needed. "Don't hesitate to use the black notepad if you need me. I'm just a few minutes away." She stood back up. "Isha, I need to get back to the library, my lunch break is almost over."
"Fine, fine." Isha had her giant bow float down so the two could get on. "See ya!" With that the two were gone.
Hooch looked at Jeanne. "What was that thing they were sitting on?"
"It is Isha's bow. Isha's magic lets her float in mid air, as well as control her bow with a thought to send out blasts of magic from it. She also uses Jewelcraft, but that is neither here nor there. May we continue the lesson?"
"Yes. Everyone, retake your positions. Miss Potter, you may pick your broom up. Everyone else say up." once the brooms were in their hands, Weasley's having smacked him in the face. "Now, mount your brooms. On my whistle you will push off the ground, hover for a moment, then lean forward and touch back down. On my whistle."
She never got the whistle blown as Neville's broom shot off like a bucking bronco, slamming him into the side of the castle. HE fell off the broom and landed on the ground, losing consciousness. Hooch and Jeanne ran over to him.
"Oh dear, a broken wrist and a concussion. I want all pf you to keep your feet on the ground. I f I see a single broom in the air the one riding it will be out of Hogwarts before they can say Quidditch." Hooch carried Neville to the hospital wing.
Draco saw something and picked it up. "Look what the squib dropped. Bet if he had given this a squeeze, he'd have remembered to fall on his fat arse."
'Give it here, Malfoy.'
"No, I think I'll leave this somewhere for him to find." Malfoy took flight. "How about on the roof?" Most of the Slytherins cheered for him.
Vivian looked about as she made a plan. she took note of one of the snowbanks created by her blizzard before she took flight, and noted that it was directly under Draco. Che mounted her broom before Hermione started in on her.
"No you don't. You heard what Madam Hooch said, and besides, you don't even know how to fly." Vivian looked her dead in the eyes, and pointed to the snowbank. Hermione followed her indication. "But what about what Hooch said?"
"McGonagall is already on her way here. I plan to stall Malfoy long enough for him to not realize that she is on her way."
"Don't get yourself expelled."
Vivian took flight, looked Malfoy dead in the eyes. He apparently got her message as he flinched, and threw the object he had picked up off the ground. Vivian used her ice magics to weigh Malfoy down enough to cause him to fall into the snowbank. She quickly turned around and chased the the spherical object as it flew towards the castle. With inches to spare, she caught the small glass ball, and stopped herself mid flight before she hit the wall. Upon landing, she took note of the flabbergasted McGonagall.
"Young lady, I hope you have an explanation as to why you were flying when I know Madam Hooch told you not to?"
'I was getting Neville's Remembrall back from Mister Malfoy after he took it to hide on the roof.'
"It's true Prof. McGonagall. Neville dropped it when he slammed against the castle wall. Malfoy picked it up, and tried to hide it. He is currently in that pile of snow." Sakura said as she pointed to a pile of snow which held a bottom sticking out.
"That leads to another question. Why is the castle grounds covered in snow when it is not yet winter?" McGonagall looked directly at Vivian. "Didn't I say to not use your Ice magic against your fellow student?"
"You can blame the Weasel for that one, Teach." Jealter spoke up. "He has been told countless times not to say anything about death around Vivian, but he still did so. His words made her actually glare at him, meaning she showed emotion."
"Has Madam Hooch dealt out a punishment?" At the nods, she continued. "Very well. The rest of you are dismissed to go inside and get some hot chocolate. Mister Weasley, go directly to MY office. Miss potter, you and your two sisters are to follow me."
Following Professor McGonagall, the three were led to the potions lab.
"Wait here." McGonagall stepped into the room. When she stepped back out, she had a boy Vivian recognised as a sixth year in her house. "Vivian, this is Roger Davies. Mister Davies, I know you are holding tryouts, later this week, but I want you to have Vivian try out for the Seeker position. I will talk with Professor Sprout to see if we can't get that rule about firt years joining the team lifted."
Davies looked Vivian over. "You ever played Quidditch, Potter?"
Jeanne answered first. "She never flew a broom before today. She was amazing though, catching her God Brother's Remembrall mere inches from the castle walls."
"If you had to guess, how many inches did you have to stop before you hit the wall?"
'I stopped an inch from, and caught the Remembrall two feet from the wall.' Vivian wrote out. 'From what my mom found out about my birth family, flying is in my blood. My dad was thought to have been able to go pro if he hadn't decided to join the aurors.'
"I see. Well, tryouts are at the end of the week. I expect to see you there. Thank you for informing me Prof. McGonagall." Davies said a quick goodbye and went back to class.
"I hope you do take him up on the tryouts. Even though the head of house for Slytherin is now someone I can trust to not abuse their authority over the students, I still need to keep an eye out for the students that are going to ignore the change in favor of their habits." McGonagall said as she turned away from the door Davies had entered. "You three are excused to go to the Great Hall for dinner. I shall be heading to speak with your head of house about these events."
Leaving the professor, Vivian, Jeanne, and Jealter walked to the Great Hall to meet up with the others. Once inside, they met with the others at the Hufflepuff table.
"Eu, are you in trouble?" Sakura asked as Vivian sat down.
'Only for the snow covering the school grounds.' Vivian signed back. 'Sorry about making it a winter wonderland out there.'
"It's okay, Eu." Hermione replied with a smile. "While it is true you lost control for a moment, you did so because of Weasley not learning to keep his mouth shut."
Rin took up one of her patented lecture poses. "In this case it is a matter of discipline. While I would like to not have to wear my winter coat just yet, it is my belief that one must own up to their mistakes. The youngest of the Weasleys sees it as the world owes him for being the youngest son, he blames his faults on his peers."
"Beat me to the punch line there, Naps." Jealter laughed.
"Hey, let's go make snow angels after dinner!" Susan piped out.
"That sounds fun." Hannah chimed in.
A cough from behind Vivian caught everyone's attention. Turning around, the group saw the other of Vivian's constant problems, Draco Malfoy.
"Enjoying your last meal here, Potter?" He sneered. Vivian signed out to Jeanne.
"Mr. Malfoy, how may we help you after you got my little sister an invitation to try out for her house team?"
"What?" Draco wasn't expecting this.
"You may have been trying to get her in trouble, but she was instead offered an invitation to try out for the house team, all thanks to your attempt to hide her god-brother's property." Jeanne continued before he could complain.
"Hmph. I challenge you, Potter, to a duel. Midnight tonight, in the Trophy room."
'I, Vivian Eucliwood Potter, accept your request for a duel. As the Challenged party, I reserve the right to decide the venue and time of the duel, and I choose the Great hall after dinner tomorrow. So I say, so mote it be.' Vivian held up her note pad, as a flash of light surrounded both Draco and Vivian. As soon as it faded, Draco had a visible face of shock. 'I do so look forward to seeing what you are able to do, Mr. Malfoy.'
And that's all for now. I'm sorry about the delay on this one. I had been stumping myself and trying to figure out what would be a good gift to you guys for your support. I hope I did okay. Like always, please leave a review of what you thought about this chapter, and I'll try to not to stump myself again next chapter. Keep being awesome, guys.
On a side note, which of the Servants do you think Vivian has learned the Personal magic/ Noble Phantasm of?
