Chapter 7
AN: Hey guys, sorry about the delay. I've been running my tail off at work, as well as having a situation come up that made me unable to access my computer for a few weeks. Id like to take a moment to answer some of the points made in the reviews. I was reminded of how I handled the issue of a trial for Sirius. I hadn't forgotten, and yeah, Dumbledore shouldn't have been able to do what he did. I plan on showing why he was able to do so when I get into book two of the Harry Potter series. As to Caster and Vivian taking the beatings from Vernon and Dudley, I had to have a plan there. Normally Caster would not have sat there and taken it, Neither would Eucliwood, however, there is a reason they did. For Caster, She knew doing something her normal way would have gotten her on the bad side of the DMLE. Vivian would have been put into Dumbledore's radar sooner for him to orchestrate something to get his hands on her to start brainwashing her. Lastly, I know Snape would not have gotten physical in front of the class normally, but in this case, he was trying to get Vivian to be 'put in her place' as Lucius would say. I hope that cleared up a couple points for you guys. Let's get onto the story!
September 30, 1991 Great Hall, Hogwarts
Vivian stood Opposite of her opponent, Draco, who looked absolutely terrified of what was about to happen. The day had passed quickly and students from all years were lining up to see the duel happen. As one would expect, the headmaster was not pleased. He was hoping to use Draco's plan of getting Vivian in trouble to have reason to call her to his office, ALONE, so he could put her under his control, but the blasted brat had to turn things around and make it an official duel.
As they stood opposite waiting for the start, Vivian carefully held the charms on her necklace. The charms were special. Each one either being enchanted replicas of the weapons used by her sisters, or the ones used by her ancestors. Every time she used them, she got a little closer to the sister that taught her to use the weapon. At the moment, she was cautious to reveal her entire hand, but that depended on her opponent.
"Are both of you ready?" Professor Flitwick called out to the two students.
"Time for you to learn your place, Potter." Draco sneered, but Vivian could tell he was afraid. Vivian nodded her head, Flitwick knowing why she didn't use her words. "Can't use your words, Potter? Is it because your scared?"
"Watch it, Ferret." Jealter growled. "My sister doesn't need her words to beat you."
"That will be all from the crowd, please." The diminutive professor said as he raised the shields around the platform. "I expect a clean duel from both of you. Remember that this is a duel of honor, not one to the death. Competitors, bow to your opponent."
"I am a Malfoy. We bow to no one." Draco spat, making Vivian see that he would be needing to be brought down a few pegs.
"Draco Malfoy, Bow." Vivian spoke out loud. Draco had no time to react as his body bowed against his will. Vivian curtsied as he did so, before silently releasing the hold on him. She then turned and walked to the other side of the platform, her hazel wand in her left hand. Draco sneered as he went to the opposite end from her.
"Begin!" Flitwick yelled as Draco threw the first spell. Vivian merely sidestepped the white stream of magic leaving Draco's wand, and every other spell that left it after.
'This is sad. He clearly was trained by his father, but lacks any restraint. some of these are dangerous.' Vivian thought to herself as she continued to dance around Draco's spells.
"Suck on this, you worthless halfblood. Fiendfyre!"
As Draco reared his wand back, Vivian holstered hers, and summoned one of the weapons from her charms. the weapon of choice was a pole arm with a white banner attached to it, She knew she needed to act fast. Going through the motions she had practiced and rehearsed so much with Jeanne, He chanted the word in her head.
"Oh flag of mine, protect our comrades. Luminosite Eternelle!"
Raising her sister's flag, which shined with light, she blocked the flames, all while using silent casting to cast the strongest ice she could underneath Draco to off-balance him. It worked, causing him to slip and stop the magic in his spell. as the fire died out and showed her unharmed, a blizzard started to form in the great hall. Vivian's Friends, sisters, and housemates could be seen off to the side in snowsuits holding cups of hot chocolate, but that was beside the point. The blizzard was not as harsh as the day before, but the other students, as well as the staff were starting to visibly shake due to the cold. Vivian paced herself as she slowly walked over to Draco, her eyes being the only way you could tell she was mad. As she made it to him, he was sitting up, and trying to back away from her. Deciding that he wasn't worth it, she encased him up to his neck in ice, and walked away, the snowstorm ending seconds after.
"The duel is over. The winner is Vivian Potter." Flitwick called out as the shields fell allowing Vivian to be hugged by her sisters.
"Good job out there, Eu." Jeanne smiled. "I think that's the first time I've ever seen my personal spell used so fast."
"I would have roasted the Ferret for that last stunt he pulled." Jealter said as she glared at the popsicle that is Draco Malfoy. "That was DEFINITELY a lethal spell. He's lucky he didn't have the reserves to keep it going after he slipped." She chuckled as she watched Draco being berated by the professors minus the goat.
"He needed to be brought down a few pegs." Rin said as she entered lecture pose number 2. "Clearly he learned from his father, who has no qualms about dealing with those he views as beneath him in a permanent way. His father is known to run in the Death Eater circles, doing underhanded business practices. His mother on the other hand is a social butterfly who would have been a mediwitch had her husband not banned her from working."
"I think that is enough of lecture mode, Rin." Shirou spoke out. " It's time to head on tho bed. I know how you get when you don't get enough sleep."
"I-I-I don't get like that. Shirou no Baka!" Rin stammered.
"You actually do, Rin. You do have the tendency to not be awake enough if you don't get enough sleep." Jeanne pointed out.
"Well at least Eu kept her calm during the duel." Sakura tried to diffuse the conversation off of Rin.
"I was mad at him when he cast that FiendFyre. It is literally a spell meant to kill and destroy. He will be less of a threat now. This loss will stay with him for the rest of his time here at Hogwarts. Humiliation, especially in public settings, can be a greatly humbling experience." Vivian signed out. "I'm going to bed. See you all in the morning."
"I'm right with you. Good night Eu." Susan said as the group separated into their respective houses before heading to bed.
October 31,1991 Hogwarts
Time flew by after the duel. Classes seemed to be going smooth for Vivian and her friends, except for the daily harassment by one Ronald Weasely. When the day of tryouts for the house team happened, Vivian showed up, but respectfully declined to play as starting seeker, leading to the team to have a reserve team. Under advisement from Both Ravenclaw captain Roger Davies and Hufflepuff captain Roger Davies, Gryffindor captain Oliverr Wood made a reserve team. Having confused Vivian when the two Rogers in the same spot, the two explained how their parents were cousins who thought it would be hilarious to name their children exactly the same name, never mind that they were five months apart on their birthdays, nor looked like one another. As expected, Slytherin captain Markus Flint had no intention of using a reserve team.
Another big change was the addition of Draco Malfoy to the circle of friends. Draco as it turned out was suffering from a lack of female role models in his life, as his mother was practically given no time with him due to Lucius Malfoy not giving her that chance. He sent a letter to his mother when he lost, rather than his father, and asked her for advice, as the advice he had gotten from his father's teachings got him into that mess in the first place. Spending some time with Hagrid, while being very intelligent, Vivian and Hermione figured out what was up with the third floor corridor before Shirou had a chance to even open the door leading tho the cerberus.
Which led to the current issue of defusing Rin from tearing into Shirou.
"YOU ABSOLUTE IDIOT!" Rin yelled at Shirou, who was being held by his shirt collar. "That entire corridor is off-limits for good reason. Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
"Rin-nee, please stop shaking Sempai." Sakura was not enthused as she tried to separate the two. "Eu, please help me stop them."
'Shirou is on his own for this one, Sakura. He was told not to go after Fluffy because the likely hood of the actual Philosopher's stone, and that it was likely designed to be a test for me to please Dumbledore that his plans are going to his design. Not only did he go and get himself bit, he did so while Rin was still waking up and not able to stop him from making a huge mistake.' Vivian signed as she put the finishing touches on the Transfiguration essay she was writing. Susan was once again playing exploding snap with Jealter, the three younger Gryffindors having gotten them done quickly thanks to Hermione. Jeanne herself was looking over Vivian, Hannah, and Draco's work on their Charms essays, as Draco also worked on his Potions Essay.
"It's no use trying to stop her at this point, Sakura. We did say we would eventually end up being dragged in to his messes." Hemione said, not even looking up from her "Lite" reading.
"I have barely gotten to know the two of them, and even I can tell that it is a lost cause." Draco noted as Hannah finished her Potions essay.
"M-maybe i-it isn't a good idea to l-let them fight like that." Hannah squeaked out as she looked up.
"This is normal." Jeanne replied. "Rin just needs to get it out of her system while she can before we let Mother and Taiga know."
"I can handle Caster, but do we really need to let Taiga-nee know?" Shirou asked.
"Shirou, you quite literally tried to face a three headed dog without a plan and got hurt in the process. Not telling them was never an option." Jealter turned away from the game, and paid the price a few seconds later.
"Jealter is right." Jeanne said as she started packing up school bags. "Anyways you all should start getting ready for the feast in an hour. Vivian, Jealter, and I have other things to do."
"Why would you not want to be at the feast?" Draco asked as he packed his bag.
"Please remember what today is, Draco." Jeanne looked a bit forlorn. "Vivian never celebrates Halloween or samhain. Today is the day she lost her birth parents. We know everyone else celebrates the fall of that dark lord on this day, but for Vivian, it is aday of reflection and remembrance. Can you do us a favor and escort Hannah to the Hufflepuff table and deliver a message to Prof. McGonagall?"
"Of course. I will see you tomorrow." Draco said as he left with the others to head to the Great Hall.
Hours past, and Vivian and her sisters were heading back to the common room when they came across a rather bat smell. Before they could wonder what it was, a Mountain Troll came around the corner, its wooden club covered in what looked like blood.
"Eu, summon your bow and stay back here as support. Jeanne, you stay back to guard Eu. I'm going to bring it to its knees." Jealter growled as she and Jeanne materialized their weapons and armor.
"Eu will be fine as long as she stays far enough away. I'm going to cover you to make sure you don't get hurt too badly."
"Fine, Whatever." Jealter rolled her eyes as she and Jeanne rushed the troll.
The troll went to swing its club down on the two, only for it to shatter as a large blast of energy hit it. looking up it saw Eu standing at the far end of the hall with a giant bow floating beside her. Before it could react, it felt pain as its left knee was skewered by multiple black spears. looking about, it saw Jeanne swing her lance to launch Jealter off with enough strength to get her to the beast's head. Driving her sword through one eye, Jealter channeled flames through her blade, ending the beast from inside as it's hide was resistant to magic. As the beast fell over, McGonagall, Sprout, Flitwick, and Dumbledore showed up.
"Miss Potter!" Sprout rushed over to Vivian, who had walked over to Jeanne. "Are any of you hurt?"
"We are just fine, Prof. Sprout." Jeanne answered.
"Why were the three of you not at the feast? And would you care to explain what happened here?" Dumbledore questioned as he looked at the weapons and armor of the two elder girls.
"We were not at the feast as Vivian prefers to spend this day's evening in reflection and remembrance." Jeanne supplied.
"It is still required to attend the feast. We celebrate the defeat of the dark lord today, so spending it out of the hall is not allowed." Dumbledore tried to sound as if he was their grandfather, which did not please Jealter.
Quite the opposite, in fact.
"For Someone who likes to be seen as a great man, you sure do seem to put your foot in your mouth more often than not. You seem to have forgotten that Vivian's parents were MURDERED on this day! You're a damn fool of you think that She's going to be around people celebrating on the day she lost her parents." Jealter raged at Dumbledore. "I ought to rip you a new arse for- ack."
"That will be enough, sister." Jeanne said as she had smacked Jealter with the pole of her lance. "I apologize. We are still a bit tense from having just fought a troll to protect our sister. When it went to hit us with its club Vivian blasted the club with her bow, which uses her own magic to form the arrows. Jealter summoned replicas of her lance to immobilize it by going through the leg before I launched her of my lance to derive her sword through one of its eyes. She then channeled her flames though the blade to kill it from inside as the hide of trolls are magically resistant."
"Did you have to kill it?" Dumbledore did his best to sound like a disappointed grandfather at them killing the troll while he seethes at the fact that the two didn't die in the encounter.
"Considering that if you scan that chunk of the club, you will find blood, we did since it was a threat to our little sister, you goat." Jealter hissed as she rubbed her head. Her other self had some strength to her swings, which was surprising to her as Jeanne was the more defensive of the two while Jealter's attacks tended to hit like a Mac Truck.
Flitwick cast a few charms at the chunk of the club indicated by Jealter.
"Headmaster, it's human blood on the club." Flitwick told them.
"Are you sure, Filius?"
"Positive. I used goblin identification charms. I'm using the same charms to find the body. I'm sorry to say this Albus, but it is the blood of Ronald Weasely on the club."
Albus mentally cursed the dead troll. The one pawn he had that he could rely on to try to control the Potter Brat was dead thanks to the blasted beast. Now he had to rework all his plans. "It is sad indeed that we lost such a promising young man today." He was interrupted by snickering coming from Jealter.
"Promising? Not hardly. The Weasel was an absolute idiot. He never learned his lesson, never turned in his work, and any time anyone tried to help him with his schoolwork he'd tell them to 'sod off'. That boy was the laziest kid I've ever seen, and Mother would have had a field day trying to correct his behavior." Jealter said as she calmed down.
"You should not disparage the dead." Dumbledore chided.
"Had he done something worth being remembered, I wouldn't. Instead, he's been a thorn in our sides. Instead of trying to scold us, how about you get to work on figuring out how the troll got in the school in the first place."Jeanne took hold of Vivian's hand and led her away from the scene.
"Good night Professors,we will see you tomorrow morning." Jeanne bowed her head before running after her sisters.
The next day, classes were canceled. Every student attended a funeral for the youngest Weasely. While she may not have liked him very much, Jealter stood beside Vivian and Jeanne next to Fred and George as they cried for their younger brother. Percy grieved as well, his twin brothers holding him as he lost strength in his legs due to the news. While she and her friends didn't get along with him, Vivian would not have wanted him to die at such a young age.
November 5, 1991 Quidditch Pitch, Hogwarts
Vivian sat in the benches as she watched the Gryffindor/ Slytherin match. She wouldn't exactly call it a match, more like a slaughter. In an effort to take the lions down, Markus Flint first took one of the Beater bats, and hit Madam Hooch with a bludger to get her out of the way for his plan. He then did the same to Oliver wood, followed by another to Wood's left leg. Alicia spinnet and Angenina Johnson were forced into the stands head first by the Sliyherin Chasers. Thankfully the reserve team had been ready to take flight. Rin and Susan had taken up Chaser positions while Shirou took keeper. After the Gryffindor seeker was taken out like Oliver, Sakura flew in to action. When the score hit 150/110 Snakes, a bludger went rogue and flew at Vivian. Jumping to avoid it she summoned her bow and flew on it. Noticing it, she quickly got help from george to knock it away long enough for her to blast it with the bow. While Vivian did this, Hermione spotted Quirrel not blinking, and put two and two together to equal four instead of fish. She quickly made her way to the professor's bleachers and set his robes on fire before he could curse the other one. the game then ended shortly after as Sakura caught the snitch before the Slytherin seeker... By catching it in her mouth.
In an alternate universe
Harry wondered why he had a feeling that someone had copied his performance in his first Quidditch game by endin the game the same way he did.
December 25, 1991 Crawley, England
Vivian, Susan, Sakura, and Hermione were excited when they got home the weekend before the Christmas and Yule Tide season came to its peak. The girls had made the top ten overall for their year group, With Hermione, Vivian, and Sakura making the top three respectively in order. Hannah,Draco, and Neville taking eighth, sixth ant thirteenth, respectively. Augusta had been made aware of her mistake when Caster sat down with her two weeks into the school year about how Vivian had noticed that while Neville got all the wand movements right, his spells were fizzing out. Vivian had him try her wand, and the spells worked perfectly. Holding Neville's wand she learned it was his father's wand, and that the core of the wand was virtually dead. Since Unicorn hair wands bond so thoroughly to their user, the wand lost it's power when Frank Longbottom was rendered insane.
At home, Shirou got the scolding of a life time from both Taiga and Caster. In other news, Caster had to get a new cast iron frying pan. The fact that Shirou had two lumps on his head was beside the point. As the group sorted present, they found one with Vivian's name on it, but no sender. Setting it aside, the the group found a rather large package from Draco, with a letter attatched.
'Hope your holidays are good. Never actually had real friends before, so I had no idea what to send all of you, so I sent some scarves I had my family's house elves make. The red one is for Shirou, the black one for Rin, orange for Susan, blue for Hermione, violet for Sakura and the gray for Vivian.
Happy Christmas, Draco'
"Thoughtful gift, but honestly, why give Sakura one that matches her hair, or Susan one that clashes with hers?" Hermione asked as Rin, Shirou, and Susan traded scarves. In the end, Susan had the black one, Rin the red, and Shirou the orange. Sakura and Vivian traded colors as well.
'Problem solved.' Vivian signed out. 'Next question?' Hermione introduced her palm to her face. Could've had a V8.
Presents were opened in a rather messy way, with wrapping paper ending up everywhere. Every member of the group got a Weasely sweater, along with an assortment of treats from the Weasely family for their support and friendship though their loss. Shirou ended up getting a new bow, two quivers, and a set of tools to take care of the arrows. Rin got a few books on jewelcraft, and a bracelet. Hermione got lots of books, no suprise to her friends. Susan got a couple practice swords, and a book on swordsmaship styles from Japan, the book enchanted to be translated into English. Sakura got a new bow, a couple cook books, and a new apron. The fact that she liked to bake was enough to make her friends aside from Vivian giggle. Vivian got a couple new ribbons, a set of colored pencils, and a sketch book. When she opened the mysterious package, Caster stopped her from trying on the silvery cloth that came out. Amelia Proceeded to remove Several compulsion, loyalty, tracker, and obedience charms from the cloth, all with Dumbledore's signature. Just another nail in his coffin in Amelia and Caster's books. When Vivian was allowed to try it on, she found she turned invisible, which she found could be useful in certain situations. Then she found the note in the package.
'Your father left this in my possession before he passed, it is time it was returned to you. Use it well.'
"Considering we know who sent it, I doubt his plan to use it to get to Eu will work." Amelia said as she looked over the note.
"True, but the question still rises on his sanity. The definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. It's too bad we were unable to fire him from his post as headmaster." Caster said as she took a sip of her wine.
"If he tries to come here to take her, he will lose his head." Okita made her stance known as she brandished her blade.
"Why not just have me sever his core like I did to that one guy?"Miya asked.
"His age would make that fatal to him. He is 115 years old, and I have no need for his soul in the afterlife just yet."
"Sounds like someone is afraid of an old go-ack!" Archer was interrupted by a cast iron frying pan bouncing off her face.
"Please keep the condescending tone out of your retorts, Isha dear." Caster smiled as she caught the frying pan in her hand with practiced ease.
'I can only imagine what is going to happen next year.' Vivian signed as she watched her family start the normal holiday trend that eventually led to a food fight at dinner. She just hoped no one throws Sakura's homemade cheesecake, otherwise, they were going to once again be introduced to the dining room ceiling.
Hey guys, VRDTrio here. Hope you enjoyed this chapter. Once again, I'm sorry about the delay. Between adjusting to a new work schedule, writer's block, and being unable to access my computer for a few weeks when I finally got over my writers block, I got delayed big time. If parts of the story seem rushed, it is because I didn't finally get a chance to work on chapter seven until this week, and only had the chance to finish today, the 24th of December of 2020. I want you to know that I was thinking about this the entire time I was away from my desk. You guys are awesome, and your reviews mean a lot to me. By now I think you guys know what to do. I', Signing off for the holidays, so I won't see your reviews until after the new year. This chapter is my Christmas present to all of you.
