Elena tries to survive the next weeks at school, at the same time it seems like she may have made a friend out of someone after all.
Ch 4: Imp Friend
(Heart's POV)
After that day at school, Elena still wanted to go the next day. I was honestly surprised. At the same time, I was happy to see that the girl was showing that she didn't want anyone to know she was weak. That she could put up with whatever they tried to do to her. That next day she lasted the whole day. She told me the teacher had moved the room around to after that day. The kid who apparently picked on her was moved, but so was the whole class to make it look seem suspicious.
Elena said that the kid wasn't happy to be moved around because of that day. The teacher just lied and said she wanted to move the seats around to try something new for the new week. I was just happy that my girl didn't have to sit next to that bully kid. Made me feel better when she had to go to school the rest of the week.
For the rest of that school week Elena was fine. She was happy and that is what I wanted to see and that made me happy as well. I didn't like to see her upset like that. She also was telling me more and more about this Imp girl that sat next to her in class. I think her name was Sam, she called her. I was glad that someone was at least becoming friends with her.
Although Alastor kept that extra precaution and had his shadow stay with the girl at school now to. Just for that week though to be sure everything was going ok. To keep an eye on the girl for both of our sakes since we were both so shaken up. It was his main shadow too. The Radio Demon could look out for himself, but his main concern would always be his daughter. So, he needs to make sure she would be ok when he isn't around.
After the week of school, that weekend I took Elena to get looked at by Dr. Talon. It was her normal checkup anyway. After she turned five the scientist wanted to see her every year. I actually moved her appointment up a little bit because of what happened. Her scrap on her arm was healed but I wanted him to be sure nothing else was wrong.
Thankfully, she was ok, and it made me glad to hear. Dr. Talon was glad Elena was ok too. I know that he can get worried too. Marcus thought of the girl as a granddaughter even though she actually wasn't. He cared about her a lot so when I told him about what happened at school, he was also worried. The wolf demon was glad that the young demon was ok.
Almost everyone at the hotel was worried. Especially Charlie too since I told her why I had to leave and informed her of everything as well. Plus, the Princess was almost like an Aunt to the girl and Elena even called her so. It made me happy that there were some that enjoyed the girl so much once this all happened.
The next week was starting for school and I was glad that Elena was willing to go back. She was up in my room again waking me up and wanting it to get ready for school. I was working at the hotel again today, so I was able to pick her up if need be.
Elena got off my bed and left the room. I stood up and got out of bed, but I felt arms wrap around me and pull me back into the bed. I let out a little squeal from surprise and looked up to see Alastor looking down at me.
"How dare you leave the bed without a kiss darling. How rude of you." Alastor said with a slightly hurt tone.
I gave a chuckle from his actions, "Sorry love, guess I was caught in the moment. Lot on my mind."
Alastor's smile went a little smaller as he knew what I meant. "It's a new week darling. The little fawn will be ok. You want my shadow to go and watch her today again?"
I took a moment to think if that was the right decision or not. Alastor watched her all-last week, but this was a new week. I didn't want Elena to think we couldn't trust her in school or have her think we will always be there for trouble. Even so, just today wouldn't be bad, I think.
I gave a small sigh. "Maybe...just for today."
Alastor must have saw my hesitation "Actually, why not after she has lunch? I think the beginning of the day will be ok for her. From what I saw last week, during class she is ok."
I nodded. "Ok, that does make me feel a little better at least." I closed my eyes and just relaxed for a moment.
Soon I felt a kiss being placed on my forehead. I opened my eyes to see Alastor's face close to mine. "The little fawn will be ok darling. I promise."
I smiled up at him and took my hands to his face and brought him down to give him a small kiss on the lips. "I love you Alastor." I breathed out once we separated.
Alastor chucked, "I love you too Heart." He rubbed his nose against mine for a moment. "Now we better get up so we can go take care of the fawn before she does anything."
Chuckling, I stood up from the bed and got ready. I took a quick shower before I got dressed and headed downstairs. When I got down there, I didn't see Elena in the kitchen, I went down the hallway and to her room. I knocked first before opening it. I saw that girl trying to get a shirt on, but it was stuck on her antler.
"Hold on baby, let me help you." I said as I went over and unhooked the shirt. The girl was able to put it all the way on but then I noticed she had it on backwards. "You have your shirt on backwards." I said with a chuckle.
Elena sighed and her ears went back. "I just wanted to try and dress myself for once."
I smiled at her. "You did pretty good on you on little one. Just have this backwards is all." I told her and helped her with fixing the shirt.
Once her shirt was on right I patted her head.
"Thank you, mommy." She thanked.
"I'm always here for you pup." We headed out of her room and to the kitchen. "What do you want for breakfast today?"
"Actually, it's been a while since I had daddy's French toast. Think he can make breakfast today?" Elena asked.
"You know it's been a while for me to. Let's ask him when he comes down." I answered her.
It was an honest truth, Alastor doesn't' make much of his French toast at home. It was mainly at the hotel. That's because it was simple and he could do many at a time. Elena and I sat down at the kitchen table while we waited for Alastor. In the meantime we shared an apple that I cut up for us.
Footsteps could be heard coming down the steps and Alastor walked into the kitchen. He looked confused at us for a moment. Elena jumped from her chair and ran over to Alastor to give him a hug.
"Daddy. Daddy. Can you please make us your French Toast? I am really in the mood for it today. Mommy wants some to." Elena told him.
Alastor smiled. "Of course, my little fawn. I would be happy to make them for you."
Elena bounced with excitement and jumped up and down around the deer. "Thank you, daddy!"
Alastor laughed at the girl's reaction and went ahead to the oven to start to make the food. Elena stood next to Alastor as he worked and he was ok with her watching. He was just glad the girl was her normal self today. I know I was happy as well to see her so excited.
Once Alastor had them all done we all sat at the table and ate. Even Alastor sat and ate one as well. The morning was silent as we ate. Was nice and enjoyable with all of us around the table. Plus, Elena was excited to go to school again.
When we were done, the table was cleaned off and things were in the sink. We all headed out and into the car for the day. Elena remembered to grab her backpack and I put her lunch inside it and we were off. We got to the school and Alastor walked the girl to the door again. I gave a sigh of relief from it as Elena headed into school with no problem.
When Alastor got back into the car I gave him a kiss on the check. He looked to me and leaned over to give me a kiss on the lips.
"Do you have some time before you go to the hotel?" Alastor asked as he had a grin.
"Yea why do you-" I looked and saw the grin on his face. "Alastor no. Not today."
"You know it would lighten your mood as well as mine a little bit since we've both been stressed." He pointed out to me.
I sighed as he did have a point. Although, that honestly didn't sound too bad since it's been about a week or more for us. "Fine. Ok, but nothing for too long ok."
"I promise." Alastor said as he kissed my check again.
Shaking my head with a smile I started to car and we made our way over to Alastor's radio station.
(Third Person POV)
Elena was doing ok in school for that day. Nothing major had happened. Even at lunch it was pretty calm. Even so, she noticed CJ giving her some looks from his new spot across the room. She wished she could understand him. Why he had such a problem with her.
Mrs. Argo had switched the room up a lot since that day last week. She had everyone in groups of two now and moved a lot of kids around to see who worked best with who. Plus, the teacher was tried to keep CJ away from Elena since they were on opposite parts of the room now.
Elena was paired with Sam and to her surprise the two got along well. Elena almost wanted to consider her a friend but didn't want to put that label on the imp just yet. She didn't want her to be uncomfortable with her. Even so the Imp girl didn't seem to have a problem with her at all. Unlike some of the kids. The young demon was happy that she didn't need to worry about Sam doing anything to hurt her.
The two talked during lunch time as well, even though Elena was still a little shy. Although, Sam was a talker for sure. She went on and on about stuff and Elena was happy to hear. Usually, the young hybrid was a talker herself, but since the Imp was still new to her, she kept to herself. She was just happy to sit and listen. Sam seemed to enjoy her company at least.
Unknown to the girl that her father's shadow was watching over her. As Alastor promised he sent the shadow to go look after the girl after lunch time. With Alastor being able to see through the eyes of his shadow now and then, he could see how happy his daughter was in class. Plus, how well the girl got along with the imp she sat with.
The rest of the time when they sat at their desks Elena was helping Sam understand some of the lessons. The girl was smart for her age, but her parents made sure she could understand some things, so it gave her a small advantage. In the long run she was helping out Sam the best she could.
Today was an art day for them and that was something Elena was excited about. If there was anything the girl enjoyed, it was to draw. There was a separate teacher that came to their room and they would learn things at their desk. It was enjoyable and since this was their first day of art class, the teacher let them have free rein on what to have the kids draw.
Giving Elena freedom to draw what she wanted meant that her imagination could go wild. She decided to draw Rufio since she hasn't drawn her hound friend in a while. Sam seemed to watch her draw and wasn't focused on her own drawing.
"Elena how are you so good at drawing?" Sam asked.
The girl didn't look up as she answered, "I draw a lot at home. I've been drawing since I was a baby. I love to draw."
Sam's eyes lit up. "You're really amazing. You got some real talent there. Should make it job."
Elena laughed softly and looked up at the imp girl. "Maybe one day. I honestly don't know what I want to be when I'm older."
"Well...your dad is the Radio Demon, right?" Sam made sure.
Elena's ears went to the side a moment. "Yea, but what does my dad have to do with anything?"
"Wouldn't you want to follow in his footsteps?" The young imp wondered.
Elena paused to think a moment. Sure, she loved her dad, and she didn't question anything he did because she knew he did it all for the wellbeing of his family. Even before then she didn't know much about her dad's past. Her dad didn't find her ready to tell that story to her yet. Unless she discovered it on her own. Even so, she looked up to her dad a lot.
"I'm not sure. I know my dad is an overlord, but I don't think I want that. Who knows if I'll even get powers." She answered with a small chuckle.
"You're just a late bloomer. Don't worry too much about it. I'm sure your dad will also show you when he thinks you're ready." Sam said.
Elena nodded. "I guess." The hybrid shrugged.
She wanted to learn to use her powers. She wanted to show CJ that she just wasn't some normal demon. She wanted to take her powers and rub them in his face. Maybe one day she will.
When time was up, the kids gave all their drawings to the teacher and she looked over all of them. Saying how lovely they were. When she got to Elena's she said she was very impressed with her skills.
When art class was over. Mrs. Argo came back and was doing another lesson with them. When it was getting closer to the end of the day. It was time for recess again. Elena was worried as she was that first day. They haven't had recess since last week since it's thought of when someone is in trouble than everyone else is too. It's been a week so now they get to go out again and have a break and have fun.
The class headed out to the yard of the school and the kids all went off to play. Elena saw some chalk left behind that was on the small corner of the cement lot. Some kid was drawing there but they were just line and stuff. The girl walked over to the chalk and grabbed a pink one and started to draw with it.
The shadow watched the girl from the darkness of the building and it smiled as the girl drew but at the same time sad that she was all by herself. The shadow wished it could go down and play with her, but his master needed it to stay hidden.
The young wolf managed to make a flower and color it in with the chalk. When she went to reach for a yellow one, someone stepped on it so she couldn't' grab it. When she looked up...it was CJ and his small group of boys.
Elena tried to act cool in front of them, she didn't want to show fear. "Just keep smiling my light. You need to show them how you shine." Her dad's voice rang in her head. She took a breath and smiled. "Hi there CJ. Did you come to color with me?"
CJ raised his eyebrow at her and then laughed. "What? Color with you? No. Not with you, Gryaznaya krov." The hellhound spat.
Elena tried to be strong as he called her names and not be fazed. "Well, that is ok. Maybe next time we can play. What is it I can do for you and your friends?" She sat up more and put her ears up.
CJ let out a huff, "I want you-" He then pushed her back and she fell onto her butt. "-To stop breathing."
The shadow watched as the boy pushed over Elena and it wasn't happy as it let out a hiss. It wanted to show its master what was happening. When the image went to Alastor, he still tried to double task by talking still. Even though the grip on his desk was making deep gashes in the wood. The shadow wanted to act, but Alastor wanted it to stay still. See what happened.
Elena's fake facade then breaks as her eyes filled with fear at the boys standing over her now.
The girl went to cover her face, but she never felt anything as she then heard a voice not far off. "Hey, leave her alone. Didn't you already do enough."
Elena looked over and she saw Sam standing being the group of boys. For a small imp, she sure had a lot of spunk.
The other Hellhound of the group growled. "Get lost pipsqueak. This doesn't deal with you."
Sam laughed, "Actually I think it does." She said as she stopped her laugh dead. "You deal with her; you deal with me too." She said as she pushed through the boys and to Elena.
The imp held her hand out to her. Elena was unsure at first but took the smaller demon's hand and she helped her to her feet. The wolf brushed herself off and stood next to Sam as they stood in front of the group.
CJ growled. "Let's go. This isn't worth it." He turned and then walked off.
The other three watched him go. They looked back to the two but then turned back to follow CJ. The two girls watched the group walk off.
The shadow had calmed now when the imp girl had arrived. At the same time Alastor had calmed to. He was grateful for the imp that came to his daughter's side. With the bullies gone, the shadow stayed where it was and still stayed to watch over the girl.
Elena let out a sigh of relief. "Thanks, but why did you do that?" She wondered.
Sam turned to the wolf and smiled. "Well because you're my friend. I see you as a friend anyway. So, I wanted to help you. That's what friends do."
"Friend?" Elena wondered with a tilt of her head and her one ear went down. "You actually consider me one?"
Sam giggled. "Well yea. You're pretty awesome in my opinion. Plus, you are really smart. You helped me. So, I'm grateful for that too." The young imp told her.
"Wow." Elena then turned her gaze to the ground. "I've honestly never had a friend before." The more the girl stood there and thought about it the happier she started to feel. Her tail started to wag, and a smile came onto her face. She looked back up to the girl. "Thank you, Sam. I consider you a friend too."
The imp smiled wide and held her hand out to Elena. "Shake on it then? It's just my way of doing things."
Elena gave a giggle. "Sure." Elena reached her hand out and took the imp's smaller one in her own. It was just a friendly shake and it made both girl's chuckle.
They let go of their hands and Sam sat down to play with the chalk too. The two were left alone the whole recess after that. The two girls left in their own world as they drew on the cement. Elena had never been happier to enjoy the time.
Before they knew it, recess was over and they had to go back inside. They finished the lesson they were learning and then it was time for them to leave. The teacher gave them a worksheet to work on for homework. Elena got all her stuff together and put her backpack on. When she walked out of the classroom, Sam was standing in the hallway.
"Want to walk out together?" Sam asked once she saw Elena.
"I think that will be fun. Yea." Elena answered as she smiled, and her tail wagged behind her.
The two walked down the hallway together and chatted. CJ watched them from behind and growled, angered that the Imp was now in his way. He didn't want it to get to him though. He would deal with her...eventually.
Heart waited in the parking lot of the school. Waiting for Elena come out and greet her. She stood outside the car and in the front of it so Elena would see her. She was honestly glad she didn't get a phone call today from the school. She hoped nothing still bad happened either way.
When the bell rang, Heart pulled her attention to the doors of the school so she could watch for her daughter. She watched as kids started to pour out of the building. Soon she spotted Elena, but there was someone walking with her. At first, she was concerned but then she noticed the two were talking and it seemed that they both were laughing.
All the women did was smile as she watched her daughter walk out of the school with the imp next to her. She was glad that...maybe she did make a friend. It warmed a little to see the girl laughing and happy as she walked out of school.
Elena stopped a moment to look into the parking lot. She saw her mom and waved to her. Heart waved back. The girl turned to Sam. "Hey would you like to meet my mom? She's here to pick me up."
"Sure, I'd like to meet her." The girl answered and she followed along.
Elena smiled as she led the imp over to Heart. As she got closer to the car and started to walk a little faster until she went up to her mom and hugged her.
"Hello Elena, did you have a good day at school today?" Heart asked.
The girl nodded. "I had a lot of fun today." She then looked back at Sam who stood a little way away. She went over to the imp. "Mom, I wanted you to meet my friend, Sam."
Heart smiled and looked down to the imp. "Oh, so you are Sam. Elena has mentioned you before. It's nice to finally meet you."
Sam smiled in return. "It's nice to meet you as well." The imp then took a pause. "Elena's mom, can I ask you a question?"
The woman chuckled at the name but nodded, "Of course dear. What's on your mind?"
"Is it true you're married to the Radio Demon?" The imp girl asked.
Heart's eyes went wide a moment. She wanted to take a guess and say that this girl was pretty blunt with things and was straight to the point. Even though she was surprised by the question she still answered. "Yes, that is true."
"So he isn't big and scary as they say?" Sam wondered as she put a hand to her chin.
"Only when he has to be." She answered the imp with a soft smile.
Sam was definitely excited. "Does he-" But she got interrupted.
"Sam! Get over here! We have to go!" A southern feminine voice called off.
The girl flinched a little and gave a sheepish smile. "Sorry. That's my mom. I have to go." She looked to Elena. "See you tomorrow." She waved to her and then ran off.
Elena waved as well, watching her go. She turned her attention back to her mother and just had a big smile on your face.
Heart patted the girls head, "We have to head back to the hotel ok. I have a few things I need to finish up. We can wait for daddy there and have dinner."
"Think Aunt Vaggie can help me with my homework again?" Elena asked as she walked to the back door of the car.
"Only if she isn't busy." Heart said sternly as she went to help her.
Helping the girl into the car and buckling her up, Heart got into the driver seat and set off back towards the hotel.
Heart was glad that her daughter had finally made a friend in school. Hopefully with a friend by her side things might be a little easier for her. It was honestly a sigh of relief. Plus, Sam seemed like a very nice imp from what she saw. Very energetic and curious. As long as Elena liked her then that was fine with her. She saw them having a good friendship.
Heart finally got to the hotel and got Elena out of the car. The two headed inside, Elena more so skipped into the lobby. She went over to the once couch and sat down. Next to her was Nifty and the two sat and chatted a moment. Heart asked the cyclops demon to watch her daughter while she needed to finish up a few things. Nifty happily agreed and Heart went off.
After all was said and done, Heart and Elena stayed at the hotel until Alastor was done with his broadcast for that day. When the deer arrived, the young girl ran up to him and wanted a hug from him. The Radio Demon picked up his daughter and hugged her as she hugged him around the neck. He walked into the lobby and stood by the couch to see Heart and Vaggie sitting there helping with her homework. Alastor put the girl back down and looked to his wife on the couch.
"My love, my I talk to you for a minute?" He started.
Heart's ears went to the side a moment as he said that she could hear the seriousness in his voice, "Sure, Al. How about we go into the kitchen?"
"That will suffice." Alastor agreed and held his hand out to her.
Heart took his hand and stood up. She turned to Vaggie. "Help her with the rest of that question. I'll be back."
Vaggie nodded and Elena just looked at the two a little concerned but went to try and focus on her homework when the moth tried to talk to her. Alastor and Heart headed into the kitchen and she went to go sit on a stool.
"What is on your mind honey?" Heart asked right away.
The deer demon had his arms crossed as he leaned against the counter. "I had my shadow watch Elena after lunch today." He paused.
"And?" Heart wondered as she was now curious about what he had to say.
Alastor took a breath in. "There was a boy at recess, with three others." He let out a sigh. "They tried to hurt Elena."
Heart's ears went back, "But I didn't-"
"Let me finish please." Alastor interrupted.
Heart just sat back with a small whine.
Alastor didn't like that reaction from his wife and went over to her to pet her head, "Don't worry darling. She was fine. You know why?" Heart calmed at the touch and just looked up at him. "There was this little imp girl with her and she told them all off. Once she entered into the picture, they all backed away and left them alone. They enjoyed the rest of recess without problem." He then had a smile. "Never seen anything like it."
Heart let out a sigh of relief. "I'm so glad she was ok. I guess that explains why Sam and Elena walked out together today."
"Sam? Is that the imps name?" Alastor asked.
Heart nodded. "I met her today. They walked out of school together. It made me happy to see her so happy." She smiled and her tail wagged.
Alastor gave a chuckle. "I'm glad the fawn has someone that can help her. Maybe she won't need us."
Heart looked at him sternly. "She'll always need us Al. Just can't have us in school." She wrapped her arms around his waist. "I guess you don't have to have your shadow go to school with her anymore."
Alastor just continued to pet his wife's head. "Well, maybe every now and then I can send it to be sure. Other than that, I feel she'll be ok."
Heart nodded. She looked up at him. "She'll be ok."
The deer demon smiled as he leaned down to give Heart a kiss. Soon the separated from their small hug. "Ok, I need to get to work making dinner."
"Can I help you?" Heart asked with a small bit of excitement.
"Make sure the fawn is ok with Vaggie first. Then you can help." Heart nodded and ran out of the kitchen.
Alastor shook his head and got to work. He let out a sigh of relief. He was just glad to know his daughter would be ok in school. All his worry hopefully will be lifted from his shoulders. Even so there was the slight anger towards the boy that wanted to hurt his daughter. No action was going to be taken...at least...not right now. Elena was safe and that's what mattered.
I actually had more planned for this chapter, but I decided to move it since the chapter ended up being so long. Hope you still enjoyed it.
