Rin's first few classes came and went rather quickly. Her teachers were much better here, and she was better able to understand the material. This made the lessons much easier, and a smile formed on her face when she realized that there was a fairly good chance that she would finish these classes with a high 'A' after all. Creative writing was extremely fun so far. Today, her teacher had re-discussed a project that the other students were currently working on: a fictional story set in the feudal era. It had to contain the genre of fantasy, and Rin was already brainstorming a fantastic idea for it.
She thought of a story in which a mighty dog demon, injured from battle, was nursed back to help by a little human girl. This girl became his friend, and she traveled with him as he sought out a mighty foe who mocked his power. Rin wanted to include a few dramatic moments between the two, but they definitely would be separated after a few months of traveling, and the demon would meet the human years later when she had grown into a beautiful woman, and they share a forbidden love together. The idea flushed her cheeks, but a large grin crept onto her face. It was absolutely brilliant...
After the first three periods of the class, it was now time for lunch, and Rin wasn't sure where she was going to sit. Sure, that Kagome girl and her friends would definitely offer a spot...if they even had a spot. That was her worst fear—their table would be filled, and Rin would have to awkwardly scoot away. She knew that it wasn't a one hundred percent fact that that would be the case, but the fearful thought lingered within her mind.
A larger student accidentally shoved Rin through the cafeteria doors—almost as if they decided her fate for her. She stood awkwardly next to the wall, eyeing around the room. There were so many different groups of students, and she could easily make out the snobs right away. They were the loudest and most expensive appearing. Eventually, her eyes settled in on Sango's face. Kagome was nowhere to be found, but she did see the familiar girl along with her boyfriend and the back of someone's white-haired head. Due to the lack of dog ears, it definitely was not InuYasha.
Quickly, Rin shuffled over towards the table, immediately calming down when she noticed Sango's bright grin. "Rin! I was about to send the guys out searching for you."
She smiled slightly, "It is a bigger school than what I'm used to, so it took me a few minutes to figure out how to get here."
"That's understandable! Oh, you don't have any lunch. Are you too scared to go up there by yourself?"
"Oh, uh...no, I just...I forgot my lunch money is all," Rin blabbered out with a deep blush coating her entire face.
The white-haired man glanced up, and Rin nearly gasped when she recognized him as the guy she gave her flower to, "I will buy you lunch."
The other three gaped at the demon with wide eyes. For Sango and Miroku, they never heard their friend's older brother willingly speak to someone—much less offer to buy them something. For Rin, she was offered lunch by a dog demon who's attraction level easily soared through the roof. The last thing that she wanted was unneeded attention...
"O-oh, it's okay! I'm not really hungry, but thank—"
"Hn, predictable. You really are afraid of the line."
A light blush coated Rin's cheeks, a tad embarrassed that he caught on to the truth, "I-I guess you're right. It's just that it's a new school, and I've never been in a cafeteria this big, and—"
Her words were cut off when the dog demon stood from his seat, keeping a silent stride as he made his way through the line. Rin and the rest of the group observed as he selected the more expensive options, paying for it as if it were nothing. When Sesshomaru returned to the table, he set the tray of sushi and steamed veggies next to him, sitting down.
Rin stared at the empty seat next to him, unsure of what to do next.
As if he could physically feel her eyes roaming his back, his shoulders huffed outward slightly as if he sighed, "Sit."
Taking a huge gulp, the young girl sat next to her intimidating…acquaintance? School peer? She wasn't quite sure, but the food that Sesshomaru picked out for her certainly looked delicious. A lot of the richer kids attended this school, so she was sure that the parents aided with some extra funding, and that seemed to include better quality food. The school lunches at her old school looked nothing like this.
Taking a small bite, Rin couldn't help the small smile that appeared on her face, "This is delicious."
Sango giggled, "Of course it's amazing! Principal Inujoō is Sesshomaru's mom as you know, and she expects nothing but the best for her son."
Rin smiled slightly, but on the inside, her stomach constricted a bit. Was Sesshomaru a spoiled brat that could simply have whatever he wanted? Or perhaps…was his mother merely suffocating him with unwanted attention? Whatever the case, she knew that she wouldn't bug the demon next to her about it. Based on the slight narrowing of his eyes, he clearly didn't enjoy the mentioning of his mother.
The young girl ate quietly yet quickly since she didn't enjoy eating in front of others that she wasn't that familiar with. It also didn't help that Sesshomaru continuously glanced down at her. It confused Rin greatly that this powerful dog demon had become so interested with her on her first day here.
"So, Rin, have you been enjoying your time here at Feudal High so far? I know that it's only been half a day, but I'm sure that you've noticed the positive differences. I used to attend the private school around here, and I even found this place much better."
She smiled at her fellow female, "Oh, yes. It's much better here."
Miroku smiled, "But of course. A pretty thing such as yourself deserves nothing but the best education!"
A blush almost coated Rin's face until she witnessed Sango's nightly slap across Miroku's cheek. Even Sesshomaru was glaring at the guy, a deep rumbling emerging from his chest. "What was that about?" Rin wondered to herself.
Not paying any more attention to her new group, she grabbed her bag and stood up, "Thank you all for the company, but I should be heading to my next class."
"Of course! Meet us in the parking lot after school—over by the red pole. We'll give you a ride h—"
"She'll be riding with me."
Sango and Miroku gaped at the demon sitting across from them. Rin's head snapped upwards towards him, "Um…you don't have t—"
"If the monk is going to push his perverse ways onto you, then it will be more comfortable to you if I were the one to drive you home."
Rin thought about it for a minute. Miroku was kind of creepy, but not in a terrible way. He simply was a teenager who's hormones took control way too often; however, something about Sesshomaru eased Rin's mind. She wasn't sure how or why, but being around him brought about a strange comfort.
"I will ride home with you, Sesshomaru," Rin stated, giving him a small smile before she left the cafeteria.
—
The rest of the school day passed by rather quickly, and Rin's nerves were going to be the death of her. How could she so willingly agree to ride home with the eldest son of her Papa's boss?! Sesshomaru could easily buy and sell her if he wanted to!
As she exited the school, she immediately noticed the gang hanging out by the large red pole—Sesshomaru included.
"Rin! Are you ready for us to drop you off at your apartment?" Kagome called out, waving for her.
She smiled and made her way over, bowing in thanks, "I must decline. Erm…Sesshomaru wants to take me home."
InuYasha gave his brother a side-eye, "Why the hell do you want to drop Rin off? What's been in your pants recently?"
"Enough. I simply feel obligated to protect the girl from…perverted males."
Kagome gushed with twinkling eyes, "Awe, how adorable! Well, fine by me. Say, Rin? This weekend, we're planning on going to the movies. Would you like to come with us? We're still deciding on what movie to watch, so maybe you can help us pick it out over the week."
"I would love to," Rin said, providing her new friend with a small smile.
"Wonderful! I'll leave you to Sesshomaru. You kids behave," she winked as she and the rest of the squad began filling into InuYasha's car.
Rin awkwardly glanced upwards towards Sesshomaru, "So uh…where's your car at?"
"It is parked in the faculty parking lot. Young males are too careless, and I wish for my car to not be scratched," he explained, leading her around campus to the larger parking lot for all of the school employees.
Her cinnamon eyes widened at the sight of his car. It seemed extremely expensive. "No wonder he doesn't want any scratches on it. I wouldn't either!"
"It is unlocked."
Nodding, Rin climbed into the passenger side, buckling her seatbelt in as her newfound friend climbed in and started the engine. Her lips flipped upward into a large grin at the thundering sound of his engine, "This is so cool!"
A slight smirk crossed his face, "I know."
Sesshomaru backed his car out of the driveway and onto the road, "They informed me that you reside in the same complex and the leech. Is that correct?"
Rin nodded, well aware of who he was talking about, "Yes, I live in the same apartment complex as Miroku."
"Hn, I hope your father is protective of you…"
"Yes, he is very protective of me," she immediately said, nervous to bring up a specific fact about her father, "he…he works for your father, you know."
"A lot of humans and demons work for my father…"
A bright blush flushed her cheeks. "Of course! How stupid of me!" she thought to herself.
"He's the head assistant…Jaken Hanasaki?"
Sesshomaru's eyes widened slightly,"Yes, I know of him. He tends to my needs quite often. I didn't know that he had children."
"I'm adopted, technically. He adopted me when I was three."
"Hn…what's your favorite class?"
"Creative writing! It is the best class I've ever taken. We're already working on a fictional story section, and I have the perfect idea for mine!" Rin gushed, excited to write said story.
"I want to hear it."
Rin blushed at the idea of telling him, but she braved through it, "It's uh…it's about a dog demon…and a little girl. He's injured from a battle, and she nurses him back to health. They form a friendship, and he protects her from deadly foes…and…when she reaches an adult age, their friendship becomes more."
Sesshomaru thought about the story for a minute, "I like it."
"That's good. I'm glad that it sounds decent."
"Hn…"
The two rode in silence for the remainder of the ride, but it didn't take much longer before they reached Rin's apartment complex.
"Thank you for the ride, Sesshomaru."
"You will be riding to and from school with me from now on," he demanded.
The statement had shocked Rin, but she tried her best to keep her composure, "If that's what you want."
"It is. Until tomorrow, Rin."
She watched as the dog demon drove away, a blush once again forming on her cheeks.
"What's wrong with me?"
