Chapter 2: Journey to the past

Go Ha Jin

It was Saturday morning, Ha Jin climbed the stairs of the quarry to reach the lagoon. It's almost 3 years since her drowning accident, 2 years since her coma and a year since she regained her past life memories. Her family and friends couldn't understand why she was coming here every weekend for the past year. Often she wanted to give up on her quest, but she couldn't give up on him. This is her last chance before she hopes to join him in their after-life.

According to history, today is when Gwangjong died a thousand years ago. She was walking with a bottle of soju and a paper cup. She was getting ready to feel disappointed and frustrated, but she also wants to pay respect to her lover. Goryeo exhibitions were closed after a week. All paintings were taken across the world to show Korea's rich history and heritage to other countries. She decorated her apartment with a copy of his paintings and read every day about the Gwangjong empire. He was a great empire, and people lived happily during his reign.

Many people were preparing to leave as the rain clouds were rolling in. The forecast didn't mention rain, but a sudden change in the weather was making people earlier than usual.

Ha Jin walked to the secluded corner where she met Ji Mong for the first time in her lifetime. She was dressed in all black. Her highness favorite color and she came to mourn for him on his death day.

She sat down near the stairs, set the cup poured soju in the container for him. She started drinking straight from the bottle. As time pass by, the clouds began to turn from grey to black. It occurred to drizzle slowly, getting more massive. She reached the edge of the platform as she was preparing to leave the world. There was a person who was blocking her path.

"It's been a long time, Ms. Ha Jin." a voice which made her look from her drunken stupor.

"Perhaps I should start calling Lady Hae Soo." he continued.

Finally, he is here, after a year and a half. He was dressed like a Grim reaper but with a black umbrella. His presence meant only one thing that it was time for her to back to her lover.

"It's been a long time, Mr. Ji Mong" she replied

"Is it possible for me to go back?" She continued

"Yes, but…."

"I won't return here, right?" she finished for him.

"Yes, my lady."

Ha Jin left her belongings against the stone wall. She removed her slippers. She wants to make it look like a suicide. She carried her suicide note whenever she succumbs to her urge to meet him in their after-life.

"Well, I am going ahead. See you soon. Thank you, Mong."

"Have a safe trip, See you on the other side, My Lady."

It was raining heavily at least this time she wouldn't feel cold as she was drenched already.

Choi Ji Mong

Last time, he did many unspeakable things to keep them separated. This time, he knows he will help them because Ji Mong doesn't believe in anything other than his stars and visions. He saw her leaving her belonging with a goodbye.

She ran towards the lake and jumped into the water.

"I am sorry, my lady. It was because of this coward subject. You suffered a heartbreak. This time, I will promise you that you will find your happiness."

It wasn't just her soul that was moving towards another time.

Wang So

Wang So drew his last breath in his chambers. He was surrounded by his people. His Son, His daughter/niece, his grandkids, and his living brothers Baek Ah and Jung. Compared to the previous king's death, Gwangjong wasn't alone. Little did they knew, Gwangjong was lone in his heart, which can only be filled by her presence.
