Chapter Twenty Two – Honored Visit

Rory looked over the new books which she had purchased for her classes. She was going to do what she always did and prove anyone wrong who doubted her ability to study and engage in things leading to a well-respected career as a journalist whilst she was pregnant. If only distance learning were more widely available, she wouldn't have to have anyone know that she was pregnant if she could just do it all on the internet. Then again, Yale wasn't like that. Yale had strict guidelines and that was what made it Yale.

She looked over an interesting part of the textbook that dealt with pay differences and was surprised to learn that even mothers made less than single women in some companies because the people who ran these organizations believed that the mother was just going to leave when the child was older. She sighed and her eyes went over to the bag of junk food that was more tempting than ever for her. Logan was aware of her bottomless pit of a stomach, wasn't he? He wasn't going to think differently of her if she devoured that whole thing.

She checked the time on her phone before allowing herself a soft smile, it wasn't night in London yet, she could still playfully text him.

What would you think of me getting fat?

She waited a few moments before hearing the specific alert she had assigned to Logan. She moved the textbook to the side and sat with her phone feeling that she was a young girl once again who had to hide information about her secret crush. She smiled as she let her finger run down the side of the phone and cast her eyes onto his reply.

Is this a challenge, Ace? How much are you wanting to eat because I'm always surprised at the Gilmore ladies' eating skills.

Rory closed her eyes as she thought about all of the food that she and her mother had eaten together. Okay. She was overthinking the idea of just stuffing that food into her face especially when she thought about how she and her mother loved Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, a film that fetishized candy.

I'm just wondering if I would fit into the Huntsberger family were I to expand enough to portray a character from Fat Albert

She saw the mark that he was texting her back and her breath caught in her chest for just a moment as she saw the response.

Screw that stupid idea of the Huntsberger family. We're going to start our own family. I love you. Gain as much weight as you want, I'll still love you, Ace.

Don't give my family a second thought. You're beautiful to me, Ace.

Actually….you should give my family one thought but I'll have time to call you later on that particular issue. Love you, Ace

Rory smiled as she looked over the messages. It seemed that Logan was more worried than she was of facing them despite the fact that both of the Huntsberger parents made her quiver and feel panicked and nauseous. If she wasn't right for the family then what did that mean? Should she seek comfort in the way that Logan's words made it sound that he would protect her to them. That made her feel better but there had to be something bothering him and that last message made that clear to her. She shouldn't spend too much time on it.

Getting up from where she had been seated, Rory stretched her arms up over her head and took a deep breath in. She had to focus her attention elsewhere, she had to decide what to do with her day that would actually be beneficial to her. All she could think of was the bag of snacks and the words from Emily Gilmore about proper nutrition when you're pregnant.

Rory looked over the books that she had bought from the bookstore and her eyes lit up in interest as she saw that already there were some different school events happening. The sporting events only interested her to an extent. Those weren't things that she wanted to go to without her grandfather or without Logan or without being assigned to do that piece for the paper. Still, at one point she had enjoyed the arts and even though that ballerina had taken out a license to kill, seeing people express themselves might make her feel connected.

She looked down at the paper as she saw that in a couple of days there would be a summer arts show. Maybe that was worth checking out. Nobody would know that she was pregnant there.

She laughed weakly, maybe it was worth investigating. She was about to grab her planner to pencil in the event when she heard a couple of taps on the front of the door and then the doorbell ring several times. She froze. Who even knew she was here? Had someone organized another delivery for them? If it was Logan then he would have just unlocked the door and that would thrill her but it wasn't him.

Rory smiled weakly before going towards the door, she took a deep breath in before opening it only to find the older Huntsberger sibling there, Rory grinned but before she could say anything, Honor was pulling her into a hug. Rory could only think about how gorgeous she always looked and how effortless it was for her to find the right clothes, the right accessories, the right makeup. Well, things worked out like that if you were wealthy. Still, Honor was nice and sweet and she genuinely meant well, she wasn't plastic.

"Hey, there," Honor smiled to her as Rory noticed the way that Honor was glancing at her belly before switching her gaze to Rory's eyes. "Mother to be," she said. "How are you? I wish that I could have brought him back with me but he's become such a stiff person - I mean, in all good ways. He's working hard to get back here."

"Logan is…" Rory smiled glad that Logan was still working hard but she wanted to encourage him to show the baby his true self. She could do without his jumping out of helicopters and making risky business ventures but he was still fun-loving and open minded and he did have a love for living. "Doing the best that he can for me and our new baby."

"Well the best aunt in the world is here," Honor declared and Rory smiled feeling a little unsettled that Logan hadn't told her about Gigi. Sure she was only young and she was only Rory's half sister but that didn't stop her from being an aunt to the child. Rory placed a hand on her belly.

"You should meet my younger sister, maybe one day," she said and Honor's eyes widened.

"Yes, absolutely," she said seeming a little flustered that she might have done something or said something upsetting without realizing about it. She put a hand on her heart and Rory smiled, laughing still and wanting to see her at ease. "I promise that I will be the best aunt on my side of the family. That baby will be so spoiled and they'll be a great older cousin."

Rory nodded, "Of course, you're -"

"Not yet," Honor laughed as she shook her head, smoothing down the fabric on her dress that covered her torso, "But you know it is in the plans, I already have my man, I have my marriage, I just need to discuss with Josh when the right time would be." Honor's eyes widened and she shook her head again. "Not to say that you and Logan picked the wrong time or that you have to be married to have a baby, not that -" Honor bit her top lip and shook her head. She knew that Logan wanted to keep the engagement a secret, she was going to do her duty as his older sister and hide the fact that she knew even from his soon to be bride.

"Honor," Rory smiled, "How do you feel about some coffee?"

"I'd love some," Honor nodded. "You know how to make it at this really intense strength and I just came over from the hotel. I must still smell like the airplane. I was just so excited to see you. I mean, I don't want to put you out or -"

"Come in," Rory gestured as she led the way to the kitchen. Honor kept looking around the house and Rory connected with the look in her eyes. She was planning on how to decorate it. That had been the same look in her grandmother's eyes as well. There really must be something about having a lot of money and wanting to redesign every place that you came into. Logan had always promised her though that he wanted this to be a place where they had the deciding say in how to dress it up.

Rory went over to the coffee and then to the espresso machine. She took out the beans and measured them. She bit her top lip. Honor had said that she wanted to experience a strong tasting cup of coffee but did that mean that it was Rory's strength or a little lighter, it was better to go lighter just in case. Her mother might reject coffee not to a certain strength but then she had been trained in the fine art of coffee drinking since youth.

Honor watched her future sister-in-law before her eyes caught hold of the paper that Rory had been looking at. "An art show?" she asked as Rory's eyes widened and she smiled with a nod. She had just been a little surprised that Honor had been interested by the same event that interested her.

"Yes," Rory looked at her, "Honor, how long are y-"

"Why don't we go together," Honor suggested and Rory started the machine, she nodded and sat down opposite the older woman.

"I'd like that," she said not knowing how just attending this art show would have a huge impact on the following year at Yale.
