Chapter Thirty-Three: A Nephew and a Grandson

Logan stretched as he finished up the work that he was doing that afternoon. They hadn't told anyone about the appointment yet but he knew that once Rory had taken a nap she would want to call her mother. He didn't want to rush her especially since it seemed she needed rest. He smiled as he saw a few messages appear on his computer from Colin and Finn who were interested in knowing what they could get for their baby depending on the sex but he wasn't going to tell them.

He had also ignored a few phone calls from his mother who also seemed desperate to know. Somehow Logan couldn't stand spoiling this day by hearing all about how this boy was going to be the next heir to the Huntzberger estate after he had inherited it. He didn't want to think of his son having the same type of upbringing that he had.

Yet, as he sent the Powerpoint presentation to his father, he leaned back. He wanted to tell somebody, it was an important and exciting thing to do. Logan's eyes lit up as he saw Honor appear online, perfect.

He grinned as he selected her name and sent over the picture of the ultrasound.

'Hi, Auntie' he wrote and sat back waiting for Honor to reply.

He smiled as he took in the picture all over again, that was his son, his little boy. Yes, it would still be a while until he actually welcomed him into the world but this was his son and as hard as it might be, he didn't want to hand over the parenting responsibilities to anyone else. This boy wasn't going to get confused on who his parents was, he was going to experience the level of closeness with both his mother and father that he had lost out on.

'They're so adorable, little bro' Honor wrote back. 'Does the picture mean I'm going to have a nephew.'

Logan chuckled as he saw that and quickly replied, 'Yes. A little boy. I'm going to have a son. I hope that I can actually be an example to him.'

'Don't worry, you're going to be a better father than we had, not that I don't love Dad.'

Logan looked away. Yes, his father wasn't completely awful and he definitely cared and loved both him and Honor but he wasn't the storybook father that he attacked Chrstopher at the dinner for not being. Logan sighed, he really hoped that his father could offer more to the young boy than explanations of how the Huntzberger family worked, how the office worked. He could imagine Rory's dad trying to encourage any interest that the boy had but he couldn't think the same thing about his father, in fact, Richard Gilmore might serve as a better great grandfather than his dad as a grandfather.

'Names?' Honor said.

'None yet,' Logan replied before looking in the direction of where Rory had been napping in their bedroom. He hadn't actually had that conversation about what she wanted to name him, he had some ideas about names that he liked but that was one of the joys of being in a relationship, the discussion about things like that.

'Don't worry. You'll think of something. So, trust yourself and you're going to be a great dad. I can't wait until Josh and I can come see you.'

'Hopefully you can have more of a hand in our wedding plans than Mom'

'Trust me. I can give you and Rory plenty of input. Have to go though, I actually cooked tonight and I don't want it to burn though I'm betting Josh'll still say it's good. Give my best to Rory.'

'Will do. Tell Josh I say hi. Take care of yourself, Honor'

'Take care of your future wife, little bro.'

As he saw Honor log off he smiled glad that he was able to share the news with someone else. They had already let the cat out of the bag when it came to their engagement and so were fielding questions about that as well. They were planning to get married just before the birth despite the fact that Rory would be pregnant and then Logan definitely was planning on a vow renewal one year after so that Rory could feel a proper wedding without the impact of her pregnancy.

He sat back and closed his eyes for a few moments before hearing the sound of the bedroom door and looked to the door of the office. He grinned as he saw Rory in a looser maternity dress. "Hey, Ace. You manage to recharge?" he grinned.

"I wish that I could be a robot, a robot probably wouldn't be dealing with these pregnancy symptoms. Was I out of it for a while?"

Logan smiled, he stood and walked over to his fiancée. Sliding a few strands of hair behind her ear, he kissed her, tilting her cheek up and grinned at her. "You can sleep for as long as you want, Ace. I'm always going to want to wake you up with true love's kiss."

"Cheesy lines, Huntzberger," Rory laughed as she put a hand on her belly. "I'm going to take a drive. I want to tell my mom but it doesn't feel right to just call her up and tell her."

"Well I've just finished the presentation and sent it off to my dad, I have a few hours of free time so do you want me to go with you? I haven't seen The Dragonfly Inn in its entirety and would love a tour of it."

Logan was reaching for his keys and jacket when he heard Rory hesitate, he turned back to her and waited. "What is it, Ace?"

"I want to get my mother's fully honest response to this. She's always going to think about how she reacts if you're there with us. I promise to give you all the details."

"Be sure to write down notes…in code," Logan said as he tossed the keys down and went to kiss her again. "Tell her that I don't intend on letting the boy get away with everything. I can be disciplined if needed even if your mother doesn't think that about me."

"Code, hmm?" Rory smiled, "I'll try to omit any 'Es'" she teased and Logan chuckled.

"Glad to know you remember our first date, Ace," he teased and she shook her head with a roll of her eyes. That was not their first date but it was also a moment that she wasn't going to forget about. She would have no idea how she could have recovered from all the life problems she had encountered so far if Logan hadn't been with her. He had even helped cheer her up when her relationship with Dean had ended.

Rory parked her car right next to her mother's Jeep. She knew that Michele had told her off for parking there before when he wasn't able to but sometimes it felt good to annoy him a little bit. Rory took a step back and looked at the Jeep and remembered all the times she had spent with her mother in that car. If anyone clung to nostalgia it was Lorelei Gilmore.

She looked to the inn and noticed some people walking in with their luggage. The inn had been really profitable and both Suki and Lorelei were excited with how it had turned out. Christopher kept trying to add things to it but Lorelei was happy that she and Suki had created it together.

As Rory entered the inn she heard the buzz of activity and allowed herself to relax. Her mother had really been successful and hopefully soon Rory would have that same success in her own life. She looked around as she came to the main desk and saw that Michele was there.

"Hi," she grinned as Michele looked up. "How's it going?"

"Not that well, it seems that people are ultimately boring, you think you have found a good topic with somebody and it turns into a monologue about the weather," Michele looked at her and frowned. "Besides, your mother didn't say you were coming here to be a bother, little Lorelei."

"I didn't tell her," Rory replied, "So Michele…"

"She's out back attending to the horses but considering that you've put on some weight I wonder if you wouldn't prefer to do some other type of recreation-"

"I'm pregnant," Rory cut him off.

"With a baby? I don't like babies, too messy, too loud, cry all the time," Michele commented and Rory laughed weakly.

"You must be relieved that this isn't your baby then," she joked and saw Michele's face turn into one of disgust. "Anyway, is Suki in the kitchen."

"She is, do you want me to get her for you? Of course that would mean stepping away from the desk, stepping away from doing my job which of course I get paid for and -"

"No. I can go through," Rory replied and Michele rolled his eyes and shook his head with an exasperated exhale. "Oh, Michele," Rory said as she saw him turn to her. "How's the weather?"

"And don't you dare drop that!" Suki yelled after a waiter who was carrying a tray with about four different dishes on it. Suki turned and smiled as she went back to a large bowl where she was preparing a salad. "It's exciting isn't it! Don't you hear all those sounds of the kitchen!"

"Sure do," Rory said as she slowly approached the chef. Suki's eyes widened and she let out a gasp of delight as she went to Rory and hugged her.

"Rory! Come on, take a seat," she said as she grabbed one. "You need to take care of yourself mommy-to-be and I heard that you're going to be a wife as well. Lots of exciting things. Did you bring Logan with you, I really wanted to get to know him since you know, the whole town is like family."

"I'll let him know that," Rory laughed, "hopefully it doesn't scare him off."

"Why would it?" Suki giggled happily. "Anyway your mother was outside but I'm sure that since I've just brewed some decaf coffee she'll be in here. It's strange seeing her off the caffeine but she found the energy elsewhere."

"That scares me," Rory said before looking at Suki. She hadn't known that her mother had given up caffeinated coffee when they weren't together as well. The Huntzbergers didn't seem to want to make any type of sacrifice but coffee was like her mother's life blood. It made her feel happy and loved.

"Cletus is definitely having some plot to take over this inn," Lorelei said as she entered and her eyes widened to see Rory and she grinned, dancing over to her. "So, you know, you said you'd know, you said that you'd call but you must know, right?"

"Yes," Rory nodded, "I know."

"You know? There's something new to know?" Suki asked and Rory put a hand on her belly. She reached into her bag and handed her mother a copy of the ultrasound. "Ooooh, I know what this means. A little boy."

"I know that you were hoping for it to be a girl," Rory said and Lorelei tried hard to stop the tears from filling her eyes.

"Are you kidding with me, I don't care what they are. This is my grandson." She looked to Rory, "I really want to meet him. I'm going to do my best to learn how to take care of boys and be the best grandmother I can be."

"You're a really great mother," Rory said and Lorelei blinked back more tears. "Of course you'd be an amazing grandmother."
