Chapter Thirty-Six : Those Other Women

36.1

Honor smiled to her younger brother as they sat in the kitchen of their house. Jess was speaking with Rory in another room and Honor had to admit that she was surprised to see how he handled this situation. She laughed as she thought about what would happen with any bullies that messed with his son. No, that might not be the best thing to think about, she didn't want to imagine Logan being that violent but a little girl…

"He's a jerk, I'm sorry he said that to you," Logan sighed and rolled his eyes. What was Rory thinking? How long had she been in touch with that ass? Since her mother wasn't marrying Luke anymore and she had moved away from Stars Hollow, why was he even part of her life?

"He's her ex-boyfriend?" Honor asked. "He's an idiot. Anyone knows not to treat a girl they don't know like that. Thank you for protect Honor's honor," she joked and Logan laughed at that. "You're curious to know what they are talking about aren't you?"

"Trying to resist spying on them, yes," Logan nodded before sighing. "I guess by the fact that I haven't done anything to him it means that I'm growing up."

"You don't have to grow up all the way," Honor said as she took his hand and squeezed it in support for him. "Anyway, mother wants to throw you some surprise party before Rory attends her first class, it'll be next weekend and I was supposed to keep it a surprise but when it comes to our mother."

Logan laughed again.

Honor gestured to the living room where Rory and Jess were talking privately. "You don't think that we should invite him, right?" she joked. "Or that Rory would?"

"Rory has too much sense to do that," Logan nodded. "She knows my feelings about him and besides, she knows that he hates me."

Jess looked over Rory's body and looked away with a roll of his eyes. "So, you've just decided to screw up your entire life now," he said before gesturing to the kitchen, "and with that guy. You told me that you were done with guys like this and yet here you are with this loser."

Rory exhaled deeply and shook her head, "Logan is not a loser," she told Jess. "He has a college degree, he's working hard as a business leader, he's committed to both me and our son."

"Yeah, you should have waited until you were out of college to get pregnant," Jess said bluntly. "I can't even believe that elite schools like Yale will let you take classes when you're pregnant. At least you haven't dropped out again."

"I can't help being pregnant," Rory frowned and Jess shrugged.

"That's not completely true. I mean you could have abstained from sex or you know, abortion, or -" Jess proposed and Rory gave him a challenging look.

"Why would I abort my boyfriend's baby? My boyfriend who I love and who is now my fiancé. Why wouldn't I want to have a family? Besides, my mother didn't get rid of me and I want to be able to love any child I have as much as she loves me," Rory said and Jess rolled his eyes.

"Are you really marrying him? I asked you to run away with me and maybe I don't have this big house or all of his money but I have true love and yes, it'd be hard but I can love this baby because they'll be you, they'll have Ro-"

"Are you insane?" Rory asked as she sat on the sofa with a mostly bored expression on her face. "You're asking me to leave the man I love and take our baby with me to go on some Jack Kerouac adventure with you, should I load some books and some clothes into a knapsack too?" she asked him before placing her hand over her unborn child.

"I am happy here," she told him. "I know that I haven't seen Luke very much or at all since everything that happened with my parents and him but if he's going around saying that the pregnancy is a mistake then maybe it's best that I've moved on with my life."

Jess stared at her and groaned, "You're going to regret it when he leaves."

"What?" Rory asked as she stood up and closed her eyes before gesturing to the front door. "I'd like it if you could leave now. I need some time to calm down after this but then maybe when I've forgotten about this evening we could get some coffee or some ice cream or - I'm really craving some coffee."

"Then have some, what is this guy telling you that you can't have coffee or something?" Jess said and Rory looked at him firmly.

"The caffei-"

"Rory, do you think you're the only woman who either has or is having a baby with him. He probably goes from wo-"

Rory looked at her hand where she had slapped him and took a step backwards. She glared at Jess and placed her hand at her side. She hadn't meant to slap him but the way that everyone seemed to speak about Logan frustrated her but the way that Jess had said it in that moment was the worst. Hadn't she expected that from him? No. No. She hadn't thought that he would bring up Logan being a baby daddy to other girls and she really wanted to see the rebel she had fallen in love with all those times before.

"See how he turned you into!" Jess yelled and Rory was sure that they could hear that in the kitchen. "All those other girls that -"

"Will you just leave?" Rory asked as she felt tears in her eyes and she put a hand to her belly as if protecting their son. She wanted to sit down and feel something comforting. She didn't realize that Honor had her arms around her protectively and Logan was standing there and facing Jess with a raised chin.

"Jeff," he said and Jess frowned at how he had purposely called him the wrong name, a name that might appear as a typo in many stories, "Jeff, get out." He said firmly as he pointed to the door. Jess stared at him and then tried to see Rory who Honor was holding.

"You too-" Jess began but Logan stood there with a firm expression.

"The door. Do you know how to use it? I've heard that you're quite a genius with your books so you must know how to go out of a door," he said with the anger shown through his eyes but he also showed a great control of it as he channeled his father in that moment.

"Are yo-"

"I didn't tell you to speak. I said leave. Leave, Jeff, or I'll get the authorities to throw you out of our house and impose a restraining order on you with me and my family. Leave." He said and Jess looked away from him before shrugging and leaving. Logan turned back to Rory with a sad smile.

"Are you okay?" he asked and Honor nodded.

"Just feeling a little sleepy," Rory said and Logan looked at the Chinese takeout that Rory hadn't even touched yet. He knew that she would eat the majority of it anyway but going to bed without eating was so rare for her. Only when she had been really sick or sad had she done so and that was rarely. Maybe there had been a period before he had known her when she had difficulty eating but eating disorders often had disastrous results on metabolism and so that didn't seem likely.

As Rory went to the bedroom, Logan turned back to Honor.

"Did you want to stay in the gue-" he asked her and Honor shook her head.

"I've got a hotel room around here and I'm looking forward to raiding the minibar and checking out what kind of hot men I can find and not tell Josh about on the TV," she said. She looked in the direction of the bedroom and then turned to Logan. "Call me if you need anything," she insisted. "I'm the only paternal aunt that baby has and I need to tell him some embarrassing stories about his dad."

"Are you okay, Ace?" Logan asked as he gently placed his hand on her shoulder and squeezed it in hopes of making her happy. She looked up at him and it was obvious she had been crying. He kissed her and then moved into the bed with her, wrapping his arms around her and kissing her numerous times. He sighed. "You're so beautiful, Ace."

"I didn't invi-" Rory said but Logan hushed her and started kissing the back of her neck and her shoulders.

"I know," he said honestly and Rory closed her eyes sadly. "I don't know what is wrong with men," he attempted to joke with her. Rory laughed but held onto his hand. "I mean, I'm no prime specimen myself but -"

"Nobody is perfect but you're the one that I want," Rory told him and bowed her head. "I know that you're not going to leave us. You're going to be there for me and our son and any future children and you're going to help them with their homework and be able to discipline them and have fun with them and do all kinds of things together."

"We need to start thinking about names soon," he said and Rory laughed softly.

"Do we have to consider the feelings of everyone else or should we just pick a name that we like?" she asked and Logan hugged her close.

"I think it should be left to us to decide. Did you want to hyphenate the last name?" she asked and Rory turned to look at him.

"I was thinking that he would be Huntsberger and I would be Huntsberger-Gilmore?" she asked and Logan smiled at her and nodded. He wasn't going to take away her decision to be a Gilmore girl if she really wanted to.

"So unless we really like the name, can we eliminate anything that starts with an H," he said and Rory smiled as she looked at him, now with her usual confidence returning. He kissed her and pushed her hair back lovingly.

"I can smell something," Rory said and Logan winked before handing Rory some eggrolls and dipping sauce.

"I thought you would want some, the rest I can either bring in here or it's out in the kitchen," he said and Rory sat up with him and let her head rest on his shoulder.

"So, not Hamlet?" she joked and Logan laughed.

"I'd prefer not," he grinned.

"Thanks, Bartleby," Rory rolled her eyes as she reference the old story.

"You know what, Ace," Logan smiled as he kissed her again. "You're the one that I want too and I'd even get a flying car to prove that to you," he kissed her another time.

"Ooo-oo-oo," Rory laughed before beginning to eat. Suddenly food seemed like such a good idea.
