AN: As I've written on other chapters and/or other fanfics that for my own peace of mind I'm trying to do one large update at the end of each month but I have a problem with being patient so sometimes I might break it like today. I have a master list of chapters that I'm going to be updating based on information collected on an Excel document and updated at the end of each month. So therefore the number of unique views for each of the latest chapters of my fics determines which fics I write and what order (with a few exceptions). Anyway. I hope you enjoy either way.

Chapter Forty – A Future Father's Fear

Honor sat in the hospital waiting room whilst Rory was being looked over by the doctor. She had told Logan to come here as soon as he could and she had never heard her younger brother sound so terrified about anything. She couldn't go with Rory because she wasn't family but she hoped that she would see her future sister-in-law at any point now. Honor took a deep breath in, she knew that if this was a miscarriage or a complication with the pregnancy then it would destroy Logan and she didn't want that.

She turned her phone in her hands before hearing loud footsteps and looked up to see Logan standing there. He was out of breath with wide eyes and a frightened face she hadn't seen since he was a child and she would be the one to comfort him, she did a better job than either of their parents.

"Honor, do you know anything? Where's Rory?" he asked as he tried to remain as calm as he could but there was that fear of the unknown in his eyes.

"I don't know. I'm not considered family so I'm not allowed to know what is going on. Do you think that contacting her mother would work?" Honor asked and Logan looked around for where the front desk was. He could ask them, right? He was her fiancée. Yes, it wasn't technically married but he was also the father to their baby, their son.

"If I can't see her, yes but…" he froze as he saw Rory exit with an exhausted and yet relieved look on her face as she carried her coat and a few pieces of paper. Honor stood up as she turned towards her. "Ace," Logan said with a relieved exhale. "Are you okay?"

"I…they say that we're okay," Rory promised him as she saw how panicked Logan was still was. She walked over to him and placed her hands on his shoulders. "We're okay."

"What was it? It's too early for false labor pains, right?" Logan asked, the fear could still be heard in his voice despite him wanting to try to be the strong and capable one. He also worried that his mother had something to do with this since Honor and Rory had been with her when this had happened. Maybe he should have gone with them. Despite him not caring about place settings or table linens and finding those things tedious and annoying, he knew how his mother could get and Rory couldn't be overstressed or overstimulated when she had another life she needed to take care of.

"They said Braxton Hicks," Rory said and Honor smiled slightly as Logan nodded.

"Okay. Okay. I've heard of that," he said as Rory touched his face and felt how sweaty and clammy he was. He really had been terrified about losing the two of them. Rory wrapped her arms around him and he held her as close as possible to him. "I'm glad that you're all right, Ace."

Honor tilted her head as she looked at the two of them. Her brother was really maturing and she was glad that the two of them could share this baby but she wanted to do something. Had her mother been causing this much stress? Maybe if she took over planning on Rory's behalf then she would be able to satisfy her mother without endangering either Rory or the baby.

"So, can you tell me what happened?" Honor asked, feeling as if she was tiptoeing onto a matter that might be too private for her to hear it. "Is it stress?"

"It's a tightening of the uterus which is similar to labor pains," Rory said as she looked towards Honor and away from Logan. "The doctor is saying that there's no way to predict them and they don't have an impact on his health but that I need to be careful about anything I might feel that's similar. It was good that I was checked out."

"But did they tell you to avoid stress?" Honor asked before Logan could.

"They did tell me to avoid stress but that it's going to be okay if I plan ahead for things that are stressful so I'll be able to attend classes as long as I'm honest with myself. Then they tell me that I can take a walk or a nap or just relax by listening to some calming music and taking a warm bath," Rory said and saw Logan nodding along. "I'm okay. I promise."

"Sometimes you're not though," Logan said honestly and Rory turned to him surprise. "I mean it, Ace. You're strong and confident and capable but all of that are both strengths and weaknesses. I know you love your independence but you need to let people like Honor and I help you." Logan bit his bottom lip before nodding, "What I mean Ace is sometimes you're headstrong and won't stop until you achieve your goal."

"I have to do that. I didn't come from a world where everything was handed to me," Rory tried to stress. She looked at her engagement ring. "Even though I'm getting married to you, I'm not going to forget where I came from and both the work that I've done and my mother have done."

"And I'm saying that if you need to take things at a slower speed then we'll do that," Logan looked at Honor hoping that she would back him up on this.

"I can't slow down, I missed all of that time when I dropped out of Yale after stealing that boat. I need to make up for that. If I miss certain deadlines then that might affect my future. Paris has her whole future mapped out. Even though her parents lost their money, she has her future all planned. I can't say the same," she said starting to get worked up and Logan hugged her.

"We'll figure everything out, Ace, we always do," he told her before sighing and looked to his sister. "Do you think you could go talk to our mother, satisfy her as much as planning does and I'll take Rory back home. I think you need some rest, Ace, then you can work after you get some rest."

"If I lose sight of my goals again then -" Rory said as she stared to cry and Logan wrapped his arms around her more securely. He kissed her forehead numerous times as he just allowed her to cry. She needed to let these emotions out. Rory was amazing but she still could break as easily as anyone and it was his role now to take care of her and their son.

After a moment longer of standing there, Logan allowed his arms to drop to the side and he gazed down at the Gilmore girl. "Are you doing better now, Ace?" he asked her and Rory laughed softly into his chest.

"I think I'll do some work after taking a nap," she told him and Logan nodded. He gently tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear. She was taking everything on as brilliantly as she always had but he needed to take his share of the weight. They were going to be married with a son. He hadn't been expecting to do these things so early on in life but now his world and his life wasn't just about him and Rory played a very important role.

"I love you so much, Rory," he told her and she smiled into his warmth again.

Logan sighed as he looked at the pizza boxes that had been delivered. He knew that Rory could eat and so could he but was this all that he could do. He was so used to being an observer in life. Maybe that was what fueled the recklessness and wildness that his life seemed to concentrate on but he had been nothing more than a pawn that could be moved by his father. He knew that he was as skilled as he had been trained to be and that he was doing the job, the work that his father set out for him to complete but he was still acting in the determined manner.

Something as scary as thinking that his son or even that both Rory and their son were going to die had brought him back to his own life and the changes which he still had the ability to put forth. He wanted to be strong and he wanted to be stronger than his father. Making risky investments wasn't the way to achieve that but he could still do something unexpected that would make a larger impact than skydiving.

He looked in the direction of the bedroom and decided to take the meat lovers pizza in with a couple of plates. Rory might not be awake but the smell of food would often rouse her. He had been with plenty of women who didn't want to eat that he admired Rory's healthy appetite. Hopefully the baby would get her metabolism but even if they didn't, he would still love his son unconditionally.

"Hey, Ace," Logan said as he knocked on the door and saw Rory starting to stir in the bed. He walked over to her and set the pizza down. "Are you feeling better?"

"Pizza," she smiled as she started to sit up and Logan watched her. "Have you spoken to your mother?"

"Yes, Honor went to see her. I think that the two of them have decided to just plan for us but it was going to go this way regardless," he saw Rory yawn and look away from him. He wanted to know if it was because of the guilt that she might be feeling or some kind of self-judgement for not being able to do what his family was asking of her. Why did his family have to be this way? Why did he feel that they acted whilst disregarding others.

"Can we…" Rory said and Logan sat down next to her, taking a piece of pizza for himself. "Can we attend some of these baby classes?" she asked. "I thought that just reading would be enough but I'm scared of something happening like today. There are some that are just for the mother but -"

Logan wrapped his arm around her and pulled her closer. "I'll go. I want to go," he said with a grin and she turned her head sideways into his chest.

"The pizza's really good," she said as she took another bite and Logan nodded. He let his hand fall upon her belly. Hopefully there wouldn't be any problems after this.
