AN: This chapter was initially intended to be twice as long but I just can't and I'll explain at the end why that is.
Chapter Forty Two – Can't Be Bothered To Title
Logan closed his eyes as he tried to center himself. His father had to pick the top restaurant in Connecticut for them to have this conversation at and he honestly didn't want to pay his father the time of day and yet he had to. For an unspecified number of years he would have to be living the path that his father chose for him and then hopefully he would be able to live out a separate life with Rory.
"You did well in the meeting today," Mitchum said and Logan nodded, "I would say that you definitely seem to be living up to your promised role as a valuable leader in this company. I think that if you really tried to work on making connections and cleaning up your image you could expand the company."
Logan nodded politely as he tried to figure out whether he could use his father's company to expand it so that he could work his own section but he was a little exhausted of being toyed with like a chess piece and he had the feeling that Rory didn't want to be part of that manipulative game and if he had to be included then what about their son or any future children they might have,
"You should celebrate being able to coordinate a team with me today," Mitchum said as the waiter came over. "It took you long enough to come," he laughed as Logan stared at him and shot an apologetic look at the waiter. Was this where he got his behavior from? He was getting folk singer vibes and flashbacks all over again and it made him feel even dirtier this time. "We'll have two glasses of the most expensive red wine in this place."
Logan looked to the waiter and then to his dad. He took a slow breath. "Sorry, I would prefer something non alcoholic."
"Come on, Logan," Mitchum said as he stared at his son as if he had just spat out something vile instead of just a refusal to drink wine. "It's not as if you have a problem and you didn't just come out of some stinking rehab facility. If it's about that girl then she doesn't need to know that you're drinking. It's not like you're having a baby."
"I am having a baby," Logan said but shook his head. Getting into an argument about the way his father had chosen to say that wasn't worth it. Obviously he wasn't carrying the baby and obviously alcohol wouldn't hurt the baby were he to drink it but being in a pact with Rory mattered to him no matter what his father might say. "I'm sorry. Something non-alcoholic, please. A…a Coke," he said trying to think of something and his father stared at him as if he were some uncultured inbred.
The waiter left and Mitchum stared at his son in silence. "I would have covered it up for you had she been suspicious. You're making a fool of yourself in my opinion by not drinking just because she can't drink. If she couldn't eat seafood, you wouldn't give up lobster, would you?"
"Yes, I would. I mean, if Rory was highly allergic to seafood or our son was allergic to seafood then I would make sure to be careful around seafood for their sake," Logan sighed as he thought about his father. He was glad that he and Honor didn't really have anything to which they were deathly allergic although would his dad have taken the same position as he did? Would his dad really just accept that there was a problem or would he say it wa-
"An allergy is just one not having strength over their mind and strength over your body. If you really train yourself you can overcome any allergy," he said and Logan sighed. Yes, it was really for the best that neither he or Honor had had a peanut allergy or anything like that.
"Dad," Logan said as he tried to steady himself and put his palms flat on the table to avoid them shaking. "I don't know if you've chosen right in having me take over the business from you in ten or twenty or however many years when you choose to retire."
"Nonsense," Mitchum laughed as the drinks came back. "You can't expect me to let Honor run it. I provided a good education for her but she wasn't raised to lead my company and make it even wealthier. That isn't to say that she doesn't possess the intelligence and skills that are necessary to run a business but I expect more out of you, Logan. I mean, you must be feeling the same. As soon as you heard that you were going to be having a son, that Huntzberger blood of creating champions must have reacted."
"I didn't feel anything, sir," Logan challenged him a little and Mitchum shifted in his seat but coughed and brought the glass of wine to his mouth.
"Well, let's not discuss such a thing right now. I think you are having too many of these sympathetic pregnancy symptoms and can't think clearly. Everything will make a lot more sense to you when you actually hold that baby in your arms and you feel the promise that lies inside of them. You're just too young to understand all of that. We'll talk about this on another occasion."
Logan nodded as he looked over the food menu. He tried to pay attention to the dishes so that he wouldn't lose it. A lot of power could be held by the name and as much as he might want to cause a scene here, it wasn't the time or place to rebel.
End of Chapter Forty Two
Thank you for reading
Before I thank people for reviewing the last chapter I really need to say this.
This fanfic is sometimes not the most fun for me to write but I know how many people like to read it and that is apparent for the amount of hits per chapter. However, after taking a look at my like I can't continue it right now. That definitely does not mean that I will not continue it but I just can't continue it right now.
I have really been trying to cram updating fanfics into my daily schedule and whilst that is easy with other fandoms that I love writing for (a lot of Disney ones) for this fic sometimes not that much. I thought that I was being fair on the last chapter by explaining that due to personal stress issues I would not be updating as frequently. I thought that that was very fair of me as I know there are a lot of other fanfics you can read.
However, within a few hours of posting the previous chapter I had not one but two people contacting me and telling me how unfair it was that I wasn't updating as much and that I needed to make the chapters longer. More of an insult to that, I tried to message these people back and they didn't even respond to the PM that I replied with. I am not going to name those individuals but they've really put a sour taste in my mouth for this particular fanfic.
So as sorry as I am to everyone else, first of all I need to do what is best for me and I don't want to write this particular fic right now. Second, I do not want to reward those two individuals who pushed me to the point of not wanting to write this fic right now. So thank you reviewers who pretty much demanded longer chapters without giving any consideration to my personal stress level and mental health, you've taken the small enjoyment that I had of writing this fic away and are therefore responsible for motivating no updates. Thank you.
Anyway, thank you to those who left a review on Chapter Forty One
