Chapter Forty Five – New Structures

It was so strange knowing that home didn't really feel like home any longer. Due to her mother's not wanting help, Rory knew how it felt to grow up without much money and that was something that hopefully neither Logan or their son would ever experience. Rory had always thought that Stars Hollow was the place she would always know as her past and know as a home, as good a friend as any location could be. However, now she wanted the men in her life to be a family. Her mother and grandmother would hopefully still be there but she wanted to spend her life with Logan and their son no matter where they might move in life.

She checked the time on the clock as she finally got back. Seven thirty. Half past seven wasn't a time a coffee lover like her had been comfortable with but she had left early so that she could be at home where she had her loved one. She crept into her bedroom where she found Logan still asleep in the bed.

She slowly sat on the side of the bed and reached out to let her fingers go through Logan's hair. She wanted him to sleep still, he always worked so hard for them and he needed his rest as well. It was hard to change yourself and he had tried to do a huge shift on his attitude and responsibilities in life all for her. Maybe that was more exhausting than any of the work which he had been doing in terms of business.

"Ace," Logan smiled as he took her hand and held it. He turned towards her. "Good morning," he said before starting to sit up and Rory gently placed her hand on his shoulder to pin him down.

"Just rest," she said gently before kissing his forehead and Logan laughed and nodded. "I don't want you to get up. I just came home because I missed you too much."

"Don't make me deal with Paris again," Logan said with an exhausted laugh before looking at Rory and smiled in relief. Rory looked at him confused before pushing his hair back and Logan reached out to place his hand on her belly.

"She's here," he whispered and Rory looked at him still not quite understanding what he was saying. "Paris," Logan said.

Rory nodded. "She's here? She's here in the house? Right now?" Rory asked before looking around. "Did she have a fight with Doyle? Did she stay the night? Did you speak with her? Why didn't you call me?" she asked and Logan chuckled.

"Answering those questions would require me not sleeping," he told her and Rory smiled and nodded. "So, you want me to answer?"

"You can tell me later, so she's here right now?" she asked.

Logan nodded, "Guest bedroom," he said and Rory kissed him again before leaving, hoping that he'd be able to get some more sleep. She went to the kitchen deciding to prepare a small breakfast for herself and be there, prepared to help Paris for whatever reason she had come over.

Rory was serving herself some fresh squeezed juice when Paris finally emerged from the bedroom. Rory smiled to her as she approached the kitchen. "Good morning, juice?" she offered and Paris looked at it skeptically before sighing and nodded so Rory poured her a glass.

Paris sighed as she looked up at the ceiling, "Men can be such idiots," she said and Rory watched her. Hopefully she wouldn't do something like bad mouth Logan in their own home. Rory had the feeling that although Paris had made it clear several times that she wasn't Logan's biggest fan, he would have at least been civil with her. That was something Paris had gotten wrong about Logan, he knew how to talk to people and be charismatic with them as well.

"Doyle?" Rory guessed.

Paris sighed before nodding, "Yes, Doyle. I had told him of my plans for the future," Paris began and Rory nodded, she knew her friend well enough that she could imagine the passion in which Paris might have unnecessarily brought to this situation. "And how I thought that it would be a more efficient use of my time were I to have twins, you know, twice the babies for the same amount of time spent pregnant but he tried to tell me that things didn't work like that."

"Well, he's right," Rory smiled. "I don't think that that's the type of thing you can just plan around. I think that you just give birth to the kids which grow inside of you naturally. I mean, I'm sure that Lane wasn't planning on having triplets."

"How is it fair that she just gets triplets accidentally when I am referring to different hormones and chemicals that I can put into my body to ensure that it's not all wasted on one child," she said and Rory stared at her speechless.

"Paris," she finally said after her mind had stopped spinning, "You can't do that. Those types of drugs that you're talking about can lead to some serious birth defects. I'm sure that you and Doyle will have children eventually but I'm sure that you'd prefer to have two healthy babies from two different pregnancies than risking the health and safety of any babies from some strange chemicals."

"You know, your fiancé said a similar thing," Paris said and Rory nodded. "He's not that bad, you know. I mean, I think you're far too good for him but he's not a bad person. Once his faults are corrected, I think he'll be a great dad."

"I think he's great the way he is, but thank you." Rory said before Paris looked around.

"You don't have anything to eat? I mean, this isn't my kitchen so I don't know what you have but it would have been nice to be offered some breakfast, even toast or something," she said and Rory laughed at that. Paris would always be Paris regardless of anything else.

Lorelai woke up just before noon to the smell of brunch food. She knew she could easily eat whatever it was that she was smelling but she wondered whether Rory had stayed longer. That would be a reason for Christopher going to such an effort for them. The only other thing that she could imagine was Christopher wanting to speak to her concerning something important and there was nothing which she could think of.

She pulled on a robe and came out into the living room. She would e going to The Dragonfly that afternoon but she had requested a lazy morning only to have Michel overhear that and ask her whether every morning she had had since the time of birth could be considered a lazy morning and that he had done some high number of squat at his gym or something.

Sometimes she amused herself with the way his voice sounded as he emphasized words rather than what he was actually saying. Still, as grumpy as he could be, she cared about Michel a lot. She walked down the hallway and stared at the table in the kitchen where there were Belgium wafflers, bacon, eggs, and fruit although that last part she could ignore.

"Good morning," Christopher smiled to her and Lorelai came in, taking a seat and reaching for the syrup for the waffles whereas Christopher had berries with his. "How was your night?"

"Good, well rested," Lorelai said before turning to Christopher and raising an eyebrow, "Chris, not that I'm not grateful for the food or for you preparing it but is there a special reason? Did I forget an anniversary or something -"

"I wanted to talk to you about our future together as husband and wife," he said and Lorelai smiled as she looked down at her hand and then nodded. She wasn't sure what he was going to talk about but she had the feeling it was much more important than a shared checking account.

"How would you feel about having another child?" Christopher asked her and Lorelai looked at him. She looked down and knew that the silence was frightening him which wasn't her point but she couldn't help that. "

"Chris," Lorelai said slowly and Christopher took a slow breath but Lorelai reached for his hand. "As long as you give me a few months to start planning out the time that I'll need for a new baby, I would love to have one but I have a lot that I need to take care of before then so I can't start trying to have a baby tonight or anything but…give me less than a year?"

"So, you'd be up for it?" Christopher asked in slight disbelief. "Having another child? We'd be older parents."

"Then I'd be an old parent and a young parent but Sookey has children and I think it would be fun for our children to play together. There is something that Rory made me think of though," she said and then looked down. "I'm scared that people will hate me for this."

"Hate you?" Christopher asked, he watched her curiously. He couldn't think of anything that she would have done that would have been bad enough for people to start hating her.

"I'd like to move out of Stars Hollow. Of course I still want to keep this house, maybe fix up the interior of it a bit but maybe I can rent it out to people or have it as an Air B&B whatever that might be. I just can't imagine getting rid of this house but I don't want to live here anymore. I think that all of the townsfolk will hate me and I've spent years building relationships with them."

"Anyone who truly matters will not hate you for a simple thing like moving," Christopher told her.

"And there is something else that I need to say in terms of when we look for a house. The Dragonfly is my life and I can't imagine how I'd feel not to see it every day."

"And you are my life," Christopher attempted to say romantically as he held her hand and squeezed it. "I know how important the inn is to you, I would never try to drag you away from your work, your friends, your horses, but I do want to try having new opportunities with you which we didn't have before."

Lorelai smiled, "Yes, I'd like that too."
