Dancing Fever; Part Two: From the Tango to A Basic Foxtrot - Dance for your lives!

/

Robin dashed after X as Star felt her feet hit the ground in a near tumble onto the boardwalk. "I cannot use my flight! Robin? What is happening??" The whole scene swapped. Lights went on as if searching for escaped convicts. Glass mirrors flashed and camera phones went off in a blur of sound, while much repetitive clicking occurred. Starfire and her teammate shielded their eyes as X soon appeared to grab Star's arm, while Robin swung back around to stop the thief from teleporting far off –

"Starfire!!" He leaped to grab at her hand, but X was better at this game. He'd slapped at the air, until a small dot tracker took to X's cape just as he was about to head off into anywhere, again.

"I won't lose you, Star," Robin landed in a crouch as the thief took to the air for good. Robin grunted. He looked at his unit as the tracker dot's signal flashed red with an X emblem to lighten his fears a bit.

"Wait for me. X…you're going to pay." Snarling at the screen, Robin knew; X had tried to hurt Starfire before. She was "quote on quote" not interested in pursuing a relationship with the thief that had stolen Robin's old temporary look. And the cameras…. what was with that light? It had him nervous but he couldn't stop. Not while Star needed his help most of all right now. So much for their romantic date...

The twists in the path he took towards finding X led Robin to the pier by a line of privately owned warehouses. For some reason, it made him think of Slade and the apprenticeship, but the boy wonder tucked away that thought and moved through the lot…in the dark. At night…

It was not October, so the Halloween vibes weren't what spooked him the most…Wait? Was that…. dance music?

He ran over to the door of one of the warehouses and put his ear up against it, staying still to listen…

A beat that was electric, and a few wild and crazy –

Teens, but what were they doing inside of a privately run facility…. well, it was after hours. Regardless, it was something of an only lead to Robin and suspicious as he made of it for himself, the Boy Wonder tried to hack the door; unlocking the panel that was heavily encrypted. Only Slade or a super – villain of their own specific caliber could come up with something this failsafe…

Well, not against the hacking prowess of the Boy Wonder.

He slipped inside, only to be disturbed by what he thought was a conk on the head gone –

And he would have been right, if X had allowed the teen's snooping around to continue.

He awoke with more lights, stars, streamers and hearts in his eyes. On the ground, he looked down to find that he wasn't in his costume, but a tux…. Blearily, Robin tried to get his bearings together.

Open his eyes further, Robin gaped at the scene, then remembered that he'd stopped when he'd seen X in a tux like the one he had on. The thing was, they both still had on their respected masks. No identities were at risk, yet. Robin didn't want to wait to find out. He pulled himself to his feet, onto to find that he had a set of magnetic cuffs on and the floor…. was metal. All the better to keep him there with. He tugged, but his arms would not budge with his entire rest of himself!

In another spot of the warehouse atop a mound of crates, was a blonde girl with shoulder length straight hair and a pink strapless dress….

Robin blinked. The dress! A lot of bells rang off in his head. As a matter of fact, so did the…Ears and tail?? Robin raised the question of a "what" had taken him hostage, rather than a "who."

"Kitten? Huh. You had me fooled. Thought you were locked up for not getting along with your better respected, peers." He quipped, knowing this mean girl was no longer a queen bee in any Jump City high school – whether she'd be accepted to any University with her criminal record? He didn't want to go pointing any fingers just yet.

"Hi to you too, Robie - poo! I'm not with that ugly Fang anymore….and being' in prison …." She ground her teeth at the word and continued, "Had me thinking about a lot of things I still didn't get to do…WHEN YOU ROBBED ME OF MY BEST PROM DATE NIGHT AND RUINED…...MY DRESS……! SO !" She held up the device that controlled his cuffs. Clearing her throat, her temper had diffused once again. "I want to get that dance, and YOU are going to apologize and make me YOUR prom queen in place of that floozy, Star "whatever" -

"Where is she, Kitten?? What did you do with Starfire!" Robin demanded, impatiently planning to let kitten return to her cell…once he had an idea of how to get that device out of her hands.

"Cool it, loser – Titan. She's going to be the one you'll compete with. In a dance competition!! Against… me !"

Robin's face went blank. "What?"

"You heard the lady, Chuckles." Red's form came from the ceiling, having gotten Robin into that tux earlier.

"Red X?? What's going on?? You don't usually team up! Kitten…this is between us. Not –

"I need some top-secret info and this craz – uh, fun… chicka promised me plenty of dirt. I'm looking for a missing person, so this is just a simple business partnership. No hard feelings. Much." He shrugged off the guilt, somewhat narrowing his masked eyes at Robin, not caring if he'd crossed the line and was about to endanger more innocent lives if Kitten got so much as a whiff of freedom. She could set a swarm of mutant moths on the heroes, or worse!

"Let Starfire go, now." Robin was very clear on his demands, yet Kitten turned up her nose to the hero's threatening stare, and even had X pull out their little surprise early.

Starfire was dressed like before in a slightly plainer purple dress. The teen was trying to reenact the night Robin was forced to take Kitten to the prom to save the city from said "giant killer mutant moths."

Kitten did not want the Tameranean to outshine her, and the cuffs on the alien's wrists would also make it so she could not hover away without a fight.

"You'll both be going up against Kitten and I." X said, stating that he'd be…. Dancing?? Robin saw Starfire in just as much of a stir as he was.

"I guess people truly do the "things that are the craziest" when they have consensual respect for one another? Is that the, correct?" Starfire's comment made X blush and Kitten simply snorted. "No! I want to make you to pay for making my look like a freak that night... And X said that he's glad to waste Robie – poo while I embarrass poor "what's – her – face" over there." Kitten pointed at Star with a clawed finger; smiling deviously as her tabby tail swished from side to side. "Your boyfriend will by my daddy's mutant moths' chew toy for life AND Starfire will become my live in servant until I kick her back to wherever she came from when I'm bored…. maybe Ex wants a pity date. Who cares! if I win, that is... If you win, you can go back to your tower and we'll relinquish the prom king and queen….," She seethed, "Trophy…back…to you…" X came back and held up a gold-plated statue of two dancers in mid – air, white smiling beside Kitten. Probably playing the fool to keep her entertained. A con, a thief. X would break someone's heart tonight.

"That oddly painted statue was in my room! Who dared to infiltrate our home to reclaim it!" Starfire's eyes lit up, yet her cuffs pulled the girl to the ground with a surprise bonus. "My star bolts…?? Why can I not use them! Strillgrofgha! You will let us go

"No. You two WILL dance and win, or we'll just take you loser – heroes both down." Kitten snickered. "I did practice under a strict teacher while I was locked up. You might even be, oohh…. jealous??" She batted her eyes mockingly at her two enemies.

"There is no way I'll ever give in to your demands, and Kitten? X isn't seriously going –

"No. I don't think you know me that well, Chuckles." X clapped his hands. The dance music swapped to something you'd find on the ballroom floor for the rich and snobbish of a different era in time.

X's demeanor reminded Robin of a dance at a gala or event that Bruce might hosted. His hands, every fiber of his being…. As if X was transformed, yet he twirled Kitten until her ears were perkier than that annoying smile she wore.

"I know the Swing, Tango, Fox trot and how to Waltz, as well as interpretive – don't laugh, dance. And maybe a few others, too. So, are you ready to lose your title tonight, Casanova? And , your date?" X narrowed his eyes as he brought Kitten up from her dip. His eyes were also looking towards the stunned Starfire.

"We don't have a way out of this…Star?" Robin looked to her as she simply nodded and tried to stay positive. "The traditional dances of my home planet may give us "the edge," then? Yes?"

"Just say the word." X started up his imaginary timer with an inward grin. "I'm itching to see how well you two can mambo like a real heroes on the dance floor…"

Raven blinked away the cobwebs from deep within her mind, as if there was a little something keeping her up tonight. She held her skull, walking to the bathroom to get a splash of water on her face after a scare from dad had put her in a foul mood –

"Rae!" Cy and Bb bounded up to her in the hall. "Lady – dude! It's a good thing we caught you…." Bb panted and tried to catch his breath, "Rob an' Star's locators have been shut off! Cy an' me need your help."

Cy nodded beside his buddy and decided to make things clearer for his other teammate. "Rob took Star to a fancy Hibachi joint uptown, but they haven't called or shown their faces an' it's been hours. We can't just go looking without their signatures and something is blocking the connection. It's, real bad. I think they ran into some trouble."

"I can try to locate Robin, but my powers aren't a foolproof method in finding wherever they went…or might be." Raven said softly but with just as much concern in her voice.

"Well? What can I do? Want me to sniff out the Hibachi place with Cy?"

"Might have ta. Rae; you can fill us in telepathically if you need to or with the unit. We'll be closer to the last place they went."

"So….Star and Rob really –

"They did. But something went wrong." Raven nodded.

"And it's up to us to figure out what." Bb chided in, lastly before they'd set off for the city square.
