Dancing Fever Part Three: Win – Or Lose; A Night to Remember
Kitten's partner was X, and the two were nothing to sniff at – and Robin had been to plenty of Wayne's fancy formal events to know that X wasn't just good.
He was almost Wayne Family material (Noted, X's identity is still up for grabs in this universe. No Roku, just our heroes.)
"Suit up, twinkle toes. I'm gonna be takin' you and your date down a notch."
X continued to irritate our heroic leader of the Titans, yet Starfire tapped onto Dick's shoulder.
"Might I suggest –
"No time." Dick turned back to X, who was holding well onto a few tango moves that had Robin steaming as red as that lobster they'd turned down at the hibachi joint.
"But –
"Yoo – hoo!!! Robbie – poo and "miss – I – can't – dance??" Kitten waved as X left her in a tight dip to come up to center again. Star and Robin gawked, just as the music had stopped playing to change in its intensity.
"This music is ready to rock, how about you? Chuckles? Show me you can handle it."
Crossing his arms, the masked thief and his frilly dance partner waited for the beat to pick up.
"WE are NOT going to lose." Dick growled at the con man and company, afraid that he was …. he didn –
"Please." Starfire sensed Robin's indecision and took to his arm. "Allow me the chance to show X and his date, " the moves." She tugged Robin's arms and they lightly embraced to start. What Starfire had not opened up to Robin about was about how the Tameranean people were known for their culture; though not as widely as say, Martians, yet she knew one thing. She was a princess, and to dance at a ball or at a gathering after an impressive battle…this included knowing how to dance well and to know what empowered your way of flight.
She whipped round to twirl in mid - air still keeping Robin on the ground as to not startle her….friend.
The music moves as electric as their pulses. Her head laid against his shoulder as she spoke softly.
"Please, follow my lead."
And so, this was what Starfire called the Tamranean Flamenco from then on, and X?
He clapped. "Good. Smooth of your dance partner to step in. Got cold feet, I bet. Boy Wonder?"
Robin smiled. "No, but I think we may not find out who the winner is, not this time." Hand round her waist, both blushed as they stopped, the duo was lucky to know that their rescue team had finally arrived.
"Boo yah!" Cy stepped in with a fried security lock in hand. "You love birds miss us, much?"
Star and Robin both turned into states by the question and separated.
X shook his head with a sniff. "All work and no play, Chuckles. Too bad."
"That may be true, X." Frowned the hero, pointing to the man behind the skull mask. "Though you dance too well to be just some common thief. I know those steps. Only one other person who taught me as a kid had that same feeling in their movements; W-
"Look at the time – Well, gotta fly. Banks to rob. Xenothium to swindle! Next time you wanna duel me, kid…I'll bring a deck of cards. For now, let's call it even."
Hey !" Kitten barked. "You can't leave me here!!" Kitten was being dumped, again?! "I have that dumb name you were –
"And I can look for someone else who does too - since aren't really holding all of the cards." He shot at her, making the sorely double - crossed teen feel used up for nothing. "You just don't have the moves, Kitty – cat. Can't keep up or lead…. like her." He saluted a blushing Starfire and rushed off into a cloud of smoke pellets he'd set off to delay the Titans' leader.
Robin turned to his dance partner.
"Starfire! Launch me!"
Star nodded and Robin was sent through the pellet storm, with his tie - optional suit and mask still in place.
Starfire scooped up a yowling Kitten, as Raven appeared with her abilities and helped to nab the sorry school girl. "No fair!! We could have beaten you back to pre -k!! II want a do – over!!"
Cy shook his head by how Kitten was acting, while Bb busily sniffed out their runaway leader.
Raven shrugged at Star, while Cy held the same question that Raven probably had on his lips. "Okay team…Where is? –
/
Dick saw X trying to reset his belt. If the Xenothium went and activated…–
"Stop!" Robin's foot hit X right in the back as the two went flying to the further side of the long warehouse. Robin got up with his twin birdarangs and a scowl appeared, ready to put X back in the pen. " Why did you break out kitten from prison?? Why…can you dance like someone from high society," He paused. "Like someone, from Gotham."
/
X's suit was below his dance attire. He slipped out of it as he knew that the hero would do the same later. "I got enough out of this little mission. Wasn't a whole waste of my time. Who knows? We could –
" No." Dick remained serious as he kept his eye on X's fancy feet. "I want answers. WHO are you searching for?? And why did Kitten promise to help you??"
"Fine…If it gets me outta your face faster, I'll squeal…. or not !"
X sent a hidden X - shaped blob from his palm to stick to Dick's heels, keeping him glued to the floor. "I'm outta here, kid. Smell ya later –
"Wait!!" The belt was powered up, and X simply vanished. Again. More questions, as Dick used his rangs to cut the goop off of his black matte, dancing shoes.
/
Starfire flew over to help Robin where he stood; their leader, feeling down due to a missed lead in the Red X case. He could have solved it, had he been quicker. Then, a trigger happened. He remembered X saying, "smell you later" ( a phrase he'd heard on his last call a year ago to the manor …And then the dance moves X had obviously learned from a Director of Dance; Sir Wyatt Hayes back in Gotham. The same person Bruce had hired to teach Dick…to waltz…It was, too coincidental…far too as the hero returned to his tower with even more on his plate than Starfire had consumed in an entire sitting.
/
Raven and the others patiently waited until Robin was ready to come out of his room.
Red X.
A mystery.
Richard tapped his fingers onto his sloppily arranged workspace and sighed, running a hand through his mop of black hair. He needed some air, so Dick went to the door to –
"Star!" He saw here there, and she was….still ok. Not at all fazed by the knapping or the dancing they'd been made to….
"Would it be alright if you and I could, finish our date?"
Robin looked to the side, afraid to make that promise valid after…
He bit the inside of his cheek, his palms already sweating from nerves and lack of sleep.
She looked so sincere to him, so honest with her feelings. Why couldn't he be that way then, too??
"Are….you free –
"Yes! WE shall go this very instant! Please, do come with me! I must show you something." She dragged his wrist as they made their way up to the rooftop of Titans' tower. From the corner, Raven, Bb and Cy were chuckling at what their little "power" couple might just find under the moonlight.
"This is a bad idea, and you two are being absolute jerks." Raven deadpanned, rolling her eyes to the side.
Cy shushed her, not wanting to alert the new couple of their presence. "It's gonna work. Trust me." He whispered to the empath. She shook her head but stuck it out. This was meddling. Something that was wrong on all levels and Raven…. could not tell why she stayed. She needed the company, maybe?
Beside her, BB was too busy biting his nails in anticipation. "Ohhh, dude and dudette… I hope they like the surprise!... I have so many paper cuts from the banners I hung up, I can still feel it…!" He squealed softly with his hands glued to a bunch of construction paper and tinsel. "I can't watch…" Silly as it was, they wanted to support the supposed future couple at Titans tower… It was right to do, and by now Robin could not refuse her pleas to make things right for tonight.
/
Starfire let the door swing forth as the night was quiet up above. It was not as late and the sun wouldn't be coming up soon. What could they even do? A display so foreign, yet it was…
Robin stood, and was fixated on the banners, construction paper stars and the candles….so many and a table? Like in Starfire's magazines about Paris?
IN a way, the hero's team had thought of that too, thanks to a quick fix. The spot Starfire had suggested was at a table for only them; seated with two chairs. It was, a very beautiful display. Robin was left utterly speechless.
"Star….did you –
"I did come up with the theme, I admit it is somewhat extravagant." She apologetically replied, rather sheepishly showing her own embarrassment a bit. "Yet, I do not wish to make you uncomfortable, Robin…If that is…alright…" She took his hands into her own and twinkling music had started to play softly from hidden speakers littered about on the rooftop.
"May, I have this dance?" Her emerald eyes gazed into his own masked ones, praying to "X'aal that he would except her generous invitation.
To her delight, he smiled back at her request; taken from their current case of Red X that was the toe – tapping rival of the Titan leader's. And so, Robin was graciously brought to face the present in the most ingenious of ways. This reality truly felt like a dream that Starfire had cooked up to thank him for…Well…
"Of course, Star. Let's dance." He wasn't sure. Maybe his heart was telling him to let go, to fly free. Either way, it felt right and Robin really had felt something electric the other night ago that he could not explain.
The Tameranean princess leapt for joy – all while the meal later that night was to be…constructed by their nosy teammates… who had very little knowledge or a prior interest in the French art of cooking.
Enough to deflate a soufflé or set fire to a flambe.
That meant Take - out, but it still tasted great after a night of dancing under the moonlight. A night Starfire would never forget for the rest of her time spent on Earth, as a Teen Titan…
