Autumn Foliage; Halloween Snippets on Deaf Ears

/

There wasn't a sound

Save for the rustle of leaves

Red

Yellow

A tawny hue

And orange

The color of a fiery memory

Of long ago

Staring

Into the wind

The streets turn sideways

The leaves dance on end

Never ending

Piling high before the end

Autumn will come to wash the world

In gold once more

And red

As the high moon

As the harvest season

As the blood of life

Taken and granted

To all living things

Red and gold

A king

And a blood red queen

They dance and make merry

As a child is born

Of pure autumn

And rust to the ground

Shows its blessing

The lasting days pass

The child grows weary

The red hue comes to croak

And has returned to the earth

Of green

Of its warmth

No more

She lays down her head

In silence

She sings

The invisible bond is shorn

When will it come again

Those skies so amber

The center of all life

Remains of an icy cold

Flush beneath her throws

White

A sickly shade

Mostly to man

And yet pure as life can be

Taken and given back

Again

The wind whips

Sweeping away the essence

Of all surviving magic

There will come a day

When time may stand still

On that day

The world will be bathed

In yellow

Red

And orange

Until the red moon

Is cast overhead

Until the spirits have been fed

And when children honor what is

No more

The dead

Who wait to be noticed

Never seen

The Dream ceases to be

The watery surface of every brook

Pond and stream

All frozen with frost

It is coming

The cold

The memory

And that solemn red moon

In a blood red facade

Where none can stop and stare

To listen to the wind

As it sings

Of red

And yellow

And orange

A memory of what the earth must do

And what you must know

Will come again soon

Very soon

With that image

Of a glittering gold
