Drowning
A/N: Here is another short story. I hope you like it.
They are at court and I don't know if they have a lake there, but let's just say they do. Also there is an out of body experience that Rose will experience.
Cold. Ice cold.
That's what I felt as I sunk down deeper into the dark depths of the ice covered lake.
It happened so fast that Christian wasn't able to help me. Not even Dimitri.
We had just gotten our skates on so we could go ice skating. The lake had frozen over about a week ago and luckily for me and Dimitri we didn't have any guardian duties today, so we decided to take the opportunity and go ice skating.
"The sun feels so wonderful. I miss it." I spoke, taking in the rays, as the warmth soaked into my skin.
"And now it's behind the clouds." Christian softly spoke, laughing slightly.
"No fair." I pouted.
Lissa and Christian just laughed.
"It's winter Roza. What would you expect?" Dimitri asked.
I just stuck my tongue out at Dimitri as he smiled and kissed me on the lips.
Soon after getting our skates on, I got onto the ice and started to skate around in circles.
"Rose! Be careful!" Lissa called out.
"You should be the one to talk! I don't need you to be falling through that ice!" I called back as I laughed.
We continued to have fun. Dimitri and I raced. He of course beat me. It was all fun and games.
Then all of a sudden the ice started to crack beneath me.
"Rose get off the ice!" Christian shouted.
I turned to look at Christian and the others before looking down. Fear was evident in my eyes. I did my best to get off the ice, but I wasn't fast enough. I ended up falling into the lake, my vision going dark.
As I sunk down, my eyes started to close as I slipped into darkness.
Then I felt someone grab me and bring me up to the surface. No I didn't feel, I saw. I was looking down at Dimitri as he dragged me out of the water and on the snowy ground.
I watched him force air into my lungs before he started compressing down on my chest.
"Come on Roza." Dimitri begged.
Dimitri continued to try and revive me, but I was slipping further and further away.
"No! I'm not ready to die!" I shouted at Death as I saw the black cloaked figure as he opened his skeletal arms to welcome me. "I'm not ready to leave them. I can't leave them." I spoke calmly.
Death didn't smile. They just put their arms down and I started to float back down. I could see myself, but I wasn't in the snow. I was in a white room, hooked to a bunch of machines. People were surrounding me. They were still trying to revive me.
I was once again engulfed into complete darkness. Then I could hear an annoying beeping sound.
"She's suffered from hypothermia and cardiac arrest. We were lucky to bring her back, but as of right now I can't say when she will wake up." The doctor spoke.
"Thank you doctor." My mom spoke.
Wait...my mom? What was she doing here?
I looked over to see my mother sitting by my side and Dimitri on the other side, holding my hand.
I wanted to wake up. I wanted to tell them I was okay, but I couldn't. They don't know when I'll wake up.
It felt like time had slowed down. I watched my mother, Dimitri, Lissa and Christian come in and out of my hospital room. Mainly Dimitri would stay in the room, waiting day after day for me to wake up.
I looked myself over from head to toe. I looked pale and horrible. They had stuck a tube down my throat to help me breathe to keep me alive. Question is, how long have I been unconscious?
"Come on Rose." Lissa begged. "Please wake up. It's been three weeks. They tell us that because of the hypothermia and cardiac arrest you fell into a coma. I've tried to heal you, but you still won't wake up." Lissa continued.
Time continued to pass by slowly and I would watch doctor after doctor, nurse after nurse come in and take my vitals and check on me. I was just floating in the dark abyss when I heard a voice.
"Roza please, wake up. Everyone misses you. I miss you. Just please wake up." Dimitri spoke softly before kissing me on the forehead.
Not long after Dimitri kissed me, I could suddenly feel myself being pulled back into my body. I could feel his hand. I could feel the warmth that radiated from Dimitri. I could even feel him stroke my hair.
I squeezed Dimitri's hand and slowly opened up my eyes to see Dimitri looking down, smiling at me.
"You're awake. Oh how I missed your beautiful eyes." Dimitri spoke smiling.
A few days had passed by and the doctor had the tube taken out and I was able to speak.
"How long was I unconscious?" I whispered, my throat still sore from the tube.
Dimitri just sighed. "You've been in a coma for six weeks." Dimitri started. "You fell through the ice and suffered from hypothermia and cardiac arrest. I thought we lost you for good."
"Well, I'm not leaving anytime soon. I'm here to stay." I whispered as I smiled.
The doctor walked in and smiled.
"Well everything looks good. Tests look great. Doesn't even look like you suffered any trauma, so I can say you are free to leave in about an hour." The doctor smiled.
I was eventually released from the hospital an hour later and was now at the apartment.
"Don't you ever scare us like that again." My mother spoke.
"I'm sorry." I said as I hugged my mother. "I just won't skate on ice that doesn't like me." I laughed trying to make a joke.
"I think we will stick to an actual ice rink from now on." Christian laughed.
"I think that is a great idea." Lissa smiled as she sat on Christian's lap.
