A Fitting End
Rodney stared at the carton in front of him and wondered what he was missing.
He'd never actually had the chance to try. Lemonade had clued him into the citrus allergy; orange juice had never even gotten a look in.
Really, he'd always been too scared of death for his own good.
Surely though, it must really be something if half the population of Earth was crazy about it.
This curiosity was what had led to his paranoia regarding citrus. He'd always been a bit worried that his subconscious would override and grab the wrong carton in the mess hall, just to try it.
So far it had never happened and he'd always refused to admit that he was more than a little disappointed about it.
He was a scientist, he was supposed to be curious about things that could kill him.
Actually bringing the glass to his lips took more courage than he'd been anticipating though and he had to force the glass to his lips and to drink.
His second last coherent thought as the warm juice slipped down his throat was that he thought he might see what Earth saw in it.
The last was that it was nothing more than a fitting end.
