You make me feel out of my element

like i'm walkin' on broken glass

like my worlds spinnin' in slow motion

and you're movin' too fast

He sat next to her on the not very big couch, staring at her ethereal appearance. The world seemed to pause as he stared at her. She sat still, staring into the distance and smoking her pipe, smoke swirling around her playfully, as if dancing in a breeze.

(chorus)

were you right, was I wrong

were you weak, was I strong, yeah

both of us broken

caught in the moment

Standing in the garden. Remembering. A night like tonight was they he died, she thought. He said that nothing ever really ended. She called him an idiot. Now she wondered, was he right?

From somewhere far away he sat on the roof, thinking. What if she had been right? Did he really have no sense? Forcing himself to leave her so he could live another life. He hadn't had much of a choice in the matter, but he could have….

we lived and we loved

and we hurt and we joked, yeah

All those times she had told him she hated him. All those times she kissed him. All those times they laughed at each other. That single time he had hurt her, and that one she would always remember first.

but the planets all aligned

when you looked into my eyes

Finally she turned away from her thoughts and stared him in the eyes. "What the hell do you think you're staring at?" she had asked him, clearly irritated. All she got for an answer was laughter.

and just like that

the chemicals react

the chemicals react

you make me feel out of my element

like i'm drifting out to the sea

like the tides pullin' me in deeper

makin' it harder to breathe

When he had first kissed her, she felt sparks but was too paralyzed from shock to think anything about it. It had been harder to breathe than she thought.

She knew she shouldn't have gotten involved. That one day he would have to leave her. But she let herself be pulled deeper and deeper into the deceiving waves.

we cannot deny, how we feel inside

we cannot deny

It's true that they couldn't deny it, but that doesn't mean they'd ever say it out loud.

(chorus)

were you right, was I wrong

were you weak, was I strong, yeah

both of us broken

caught in the moment

we lived and we loved

and we hurt and we joked, yeah

but the planets all aligned

when you looked into my eyes

and just like that

the chemicals react

the chemicals react

kaleidoscope of colors

turning hopes on fire, sun is burning

shining down on both of us

don't let us lose it (don't let us lose it...)

Too late to hope for a soft fall. They were already too far in, too high up, and were bound to come crashing down eventually

(chorus)

were you right, was I wrong

were you weak, was I strong, yeah

both of us broken

caught in the moment

we lived and we loved

and we hurt and we joked, yeah

we lived too long

we loved not enough

we hurt too badly

we joked

we're right or so we think

we're wrong too many times

we're weak too weak

we're strong but not quite enough

we lived to love but love is a faerytale without a happy ending

but the planets all aligned

when you looked into my eyes

and just like that

watch the chemicals react

and just like that

the chemicals react

(the chemicals react)
