I want to put a little disclaimer before beginning this chapter. First, I'll be using things from both the book and movies. Second, I own absolutely nothing other than the OC's.

Lily's POV

I'd just arrived at the Weasley's again, happy to have gotten the invitation to go to Diagon Alley from Harry.

"Lily, I'm so glad you're back," Mrs. Weasley said, giving me a bone crushing hug.

"Thank you, Mrs. Weasley. I'm excited to be going to Diagon Alley. We got my school stuff ages ago since mum already knew what I'd need so I haven't been all summer," I said as she let me go.

"Of course, dear. I know it's always fun to do a little shopping of your own. I think Harry, Ron, and Hermione are up in Ron's room if you want to go find them before we have supper," she said and I thanked her, going up the staircase to Ron's room where the trio was, Ron and Harry on their respective beds and Hermione on the floor.

"Hey guys," I said, knocking lightly on the door and they all smiled when they saw me.

"Hey, Lily," they all said to me and we just talked for a while until Mrs. Weasley called up to us that dinner was ready. I slept in the same room as Hermione and Ginny that night and the next morning I was anxious to get to Diagon Alley.

"Where were you wanting to go, dear?" Mrs. Weasley asked me as we entered The Leaky Cauldron later that morning.

"Well, I need to get some new quills and ink, and I was hoping to stop by the sweet shop, I want to get dad some chocolate. Other than that I don't have a preference.

"She can come with us, Mrs. Weasley," I heard Harry said and the woman just nodded, knowing the four of us would be fine together.

"Where to first?" I asked the three.

"Scribbulus Writing Instruments?" Harry said and we all agreed. When we got there I was marveling at some new reusable parchment that had just been released, having left the other three to go off in the shop on their own, but Harry came over to me.

"Isn't this neat?" I said, holding the parchment out for him to see.

"Yeah, that's really cool, actually. You excited for the school year?" Harry asked me as we perused the different types of quills the shop had.

"Yeah. Mum seems like she knows something I don't. Like there will be something big happening this year, but she won't tell me what. She keeps saying Dumbledore has sworn her to secrecy until the start of term," I said, picking up a few quills to buy.

"Oh, I wonder what it is," Harry said.

"No idea," I shrugged. "Seems like it's a pretty big deal though," I said, picking up a few roll of parchment.

"Well hopefully it won't involve me almost being killed again. Just one year with no issues from Voldemort would be just lovely," Harry said sarcastically and I smirked at him.

"Trouble does seem to find you anywhere you go," I said as we walked over to the bottles of ink.

"I know. I'm ready to have just one calm year. Has she said anything about who might be the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher?" Harry asked and I shook my head.

"No, she says Dumbledore hasn't found anyone just yet, but he'll find someone before the start of term I'm sure," I said, picking up a bottle of green ink to buy along with the standard black I knew I'd need at school.

"I know they won't be as good as your dad was. He's the best Defense teacher Hogwarts may have ever had," Harry said, picking out some ink for himself.

"He was a pretty great teacher. Mum is too. It's like they were both meant to teach," I said, taking my things to the counter to pay for them.

"Yeah, I really like your mum's class. It's so much better than Professor Binns lectures," Harry said, paying for his own things and we met Ron and Hermione at the door, leaving the shop to continue our shopping as we walked back through Diagon Alley.

Avery's POV

After Lily came back from the Weasley's it felt like no time until it was already September 1st again and me and Remus were standing on Platform 9 ¾ seeing Lily off on the Hogwarts Express.

"I'll see you there, Lilybug. Love you," I said, hugging her and giving her a kiss on top of the head.

"Love you too, mum," she said, letting go of me to hug Remus.

"I'll miss having you at home. Now, try not to cause too much trouble if you can help it, all right? I'll see you soon, I love you," Remus said to her, hugging her extra tight and kissing the top of her head as well.

"I love you too dad. I'll be sure to write," Lily said, letting go of Remus and she started toward one of the doors of the train, trunk behind her. We waved to her as the train left the Platform and apparated back home. I was dreading having to leave Remus by himself despite the extra spells and protections we'd put on the house the day before.

"You've got plenty of Wolfsbane, just remember to take it like you're supposed to. I suppose I should get going so I can get all of my things unpacked before the students arrive," I said to him as we just stood in the living room, my trunk by the couch so I could apparate with it to Hogsmeade and walk to the castle.

"Don't worry about me, I'll be just fine, I promise," Remus said, wrapping me in his arms in goodbye. "I love you, don't forget to write, and I hope this year goes a little more smoothly than last year," he said with a chuckle.

"Actually, there's something happening at Hogwarts this year, and now that Lily isn't here I feel like I can tell you," I said, getting excited.

"Oh? What's going on this year?" he asked me curiously.

"Hogwarts is hosting the Triwizard Tournament this year," I said, nearly bursting from excitement.

"Oh, wow, Avery! That's amazing!" Remus said, returning the grin I was giving him.

"I'll be sure to tell you everything that happens for each task, down to the last detail. Though this does mean I may not be able to come home during the Christmas holiday. You know the Yule Ball is one of the biggest traditions of the Tournament," I said, grabbing my trunk by both handles.

"I'll look forward to hearing about it. Be safe this year," Remus said, kissing me soundly before I apparated to Hogsmeade. I levitated my trunk and walked up to the castle and to my classroom, where I left my trunk in my office and started getting things set up for the school year before the feast that evening. I made my way to the Great Hall a few hours later, looking up at the enchanted ceiling with disdain at the way the weather had turned, hoping the students wouldn't get too soaked as they came to the castle. I took my seat at the staff table just as students began to file in, each one looking as though they'd gone for a swim in the black lake. Lily waved to me when she walked in and I noticed she was staying close to Harry and his friends. After the sorting Dumbledore didn't give his usual speech, instead the food showed up almost instantly. I supposed he wanted to keep an air of suspicion about what was really happening at Hogwarts that year. Once all of the food had disappeared again, Dumbledore stood up to give his speech.

"So!" he said loudly to make sure he had everyone's attention. "Now that we are all fed and watered, I must once more ask for your attention, while I give out a few notices. Mr. Filch has asked me to tell you that the list of objects forbidden inside the castle has this year been extended to include Screaming yo-yo's, Fanged Frisbees, and Ever-Bashing Boomerangs. The full list comprises of approximately four hundred and thirty-seven items, I believe, and can be found in Mr. Filch's office, if anybody would like to check it. As ever, I would like to remind you all that the forest on the grounds is out-of-bounds to students, as is the village of Hogsmeade to all below third year. It is also my painful duty to inform you that the Inter-House Quidditch Cup will not take place this year," Dumbledore said and a murmur passed through the students at the news, students that played on the house teams looking particularly upset, but Dumbledore continued regardless, "This is due to and event that will be starting in October, and continuing throughout the school year, taking up much of the teachers' time and energy - but I am sure you will all enjoy it immensely. I have great pleasure in announcing that his year at Hogwarts -" Dumbledore was suddenly cut off by a loud boom of thunder as the doors to the Great Hall slammed open. I watched every student turn suddenly at the noise and looked to see who else had come into the hall, wondering if it was perhaps the mystery Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. At the door of the hall was a man leaning on a long staff, one of his eye balls was normal but the other was obviously magical and looked nothing like an eye was supposed to. His grisly appearance made the grimace on his face much more pronounced as he walked up to the staff table, a loud clunk sounding on every other step he took. I knew immediately that it was Mad-Eye Moody, an ex-auror whose reputation made him out to be a bit on the loony side. Surely this wasn't our newest teacher. I looked up at Dumbledore as he introduced the man as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor and it took everything in me not to groan out loud. This would be who was taking Remus' place, a nutter ex-auror that clearly had no regard for anyone other than himself as he strode up to his place next to Snape. No one in the hall but Dumbledore and Hagrid gave the man any applause, unlike previous years where everyone gave at least some polite applause to a new professor. Many students were just staring at Moody, I'm sure they didn't know what to think about his appearance, it certainly could be frightening to the wrong person, and Dumbledore cleared his throat to get the attention back to him so he could continue his announcement.

"As I was saying, we are to have the honor of hosting a very exciting event over the coming months, an event that has not been held for over a century. It is my very great pleasure to inform you that the Triwizard Tournament will be taking place at Hogwarts this year," Dumbledore said and there was a low din of murmurs from the students.

"You're JOKING," I heard Fred Weasley say loudly and smirked, watching Lily talk to Harry excitedly about the Tournament, probably explaining it to him a bit.

"I'm not joking, Mr. Weasley. Some of you will not know what this tournament involves, so I hope those who do know will forgive me for giving a short explanation, and allow their attention to wander freely. The Triwizard Tournament was first established some seven hundred years ago as a friendly competition between the three largest European schools of wizardry: Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang. A champion was selected to represent each school, and the three champions competed in three magical tasks. The schools took it in turns to host the tournament once every five years, and it was generally agreed to be a most excellent way of establishing ties between young witches and wizards of different nationalities - until, that is, the death toll mounted so high that the tournament was discontinued. There have been several attempts over the centuries to reinstate the tournament, none of which has been very successful. However, our own Department of International Magical Cooperation and Magical Games and Sports have decided the time is ripe for another attempt. We have worked hard over the summer to ensure that this time, no champion will find himself or herself in mortal danger. The Heads of Beauxbatons and Durmstrang have already arrived with their shortlisted contenders, however the selection of champions will not take place until October. Now, if you will all please welcome those from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang," Dumbledore said, the doors to the Great Hall opening again and I watched as each school entered the hall, each one showing off to impress our students and I must say, it worked. Once everyone was sitting down, Dumbledore spoke again.

"Now, I know all of you must be tired, so off to bed with you! Chop chop!" Dumbledore said and students began to file out of the Great Hall, the chatter of conversation loud against the stone walls. I quickly made my way to my classroom, hearing Dumbledore talking to Mad-Eye Moody behind me as I opened my classroom door, the low clunk of Moody's wooden leg getting louder as they approached the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom.

"Ah, Professor Lupin, I was hoping I might catch you before you retired for the night," Dumbledore said and I sighed as I turned to face the two men.

"Yes, Headmaster?" I said politely, refusing to look at Moody.

"May I introduce our newest professor, Alastor Moody. Alastor, this is one of our History of Magic professors, Avery Lupin. As you can see, your classrooms are in fairly close proximity, I'm sure if you have any questions she will be glad to answer them," Dumbledore said and I just gave the other man a polite smile.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, professor," I said to the man and he was scrutinizing me with both eyeballs before he just grunted. Dumbledore gave me a subtle wink and I took that as my cue that I could leave and I went straight to bed, anxious for what the year ahead would bring.

Lily's POV

"Can you guys believe it? The Triwizard Tournament, here at Hogwarts," I said as I walked to the common room with Harry, Ron, Hermione, Fred, and George.

"Yeah, and what'd you think of that bugger of a new professor, huh?" Fred said with a snicker.

"I think Moody's going to be brilliant," Ron said.

"More like completely bonkers. Mum's told me a bit about him, I'm not totally sure he's someone that should be teaching in a school," I said with a slight grimace.

"Explains the dress robes I suppose, doesn't it Ron?" Harry said, smirking at Ron. I hadn't seen Ron's new dress robes myself, but from what Harry had told me they were utterly gastly, though Harry couldn't stop laughing as he had told me about them on the train, Ron glowering at us the whole time.

"It's too bad about Quidditch, though," I said and Harry, Fred, and George voiced their agreement with me. Once we all got to the common room, Fred and George immediately went to their dormitory, as did many other students. I sat on the couch in front of the fireplace with Harry and Hermione while Ron took over an armchair next to it. Soon we were the only ones left in the Common Room and I could tell Harry was eager to talk about something.

"Lily, have professor Lupin or your dad heard from Sirius this summer? Hedwig's been gone an awfully long time with a letter I sent to him, I'm not sure if she's found him or not," Harry asked me, but I knew neither of my parents had heard from Harry's godfather since the end of last term.

"No, as far as I know neither of them have heard from him all summer. I hope he's all right," I said, curling my legs underneath me.

"I do too. What do you guys make of Moody?" Harry asked, clearly wanting to get his mind off of worrying about Sirius.

"I suppose we'll just have to see what kind of teacher he is. You can't always judge a book by it's cover," Hermione said before letting out a yawn. "I'm going up to bed, you three should as well, first day of classes being tomorrow," she said, standing up and going up the stairs to the girls dormitories. I stayed up talking to Harry and Ron for a while and soon Ron went to bed too, leaving me and Harry alone in the common room.

"How's your dad been holding up?" Harry asked me after we'd sat in a comfortable silence for a while.

"As well as can be expected I supposed. Mum explained to me over the summer that his transformations have a way of aging his body quicker than it would otherwise and that it's gotten much harder on him as they've gotten older. I still haven't stayed in the house during a full moon, mum won't let me," I said with a shrug.

"Why not? Doesn't he still get the potion?" Harry asked.

"Yeah, mum was making it for him. She seems so protective of me when it comes to dad's transformations, not wanting me to be there the couple days around the full moon and everything. I want to be there to help him through it too, but I was never even able to tell mum that because she was insistent on me staying out of the house," I said with a sigh, leaning back into the couch more.

"That sounds frustrating," Harry said with a small smirk.

"It is. I suppose she'll be that way about it for a while since dad's just been back a year now. I just feel like she's trying to shelter me," I said, then stood up. "I'm going to bed, see you Harry," I said and made my way to the stairs that led to the girls dormitories.

"Yeah, see you," I heard Harry said and smiled back at him, finding myself blushing when he smiled back at me and I hurried up to my dormitory, I hoped before he noticed the blush, ready to get to bed so I could start my second year at Hogwarts the next day.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the different point of view! I want to try to continue that every couple chapters to spice it up a little bit. I hope you enjoyed it!
