Greetings lovely readers! I have a new chapter for you all. Fair warning, I no longer have a beta reader or anyone reading before I post. This shouldn't be a big deal since I didn't really have that when I first started out with this story. However, I am currently trying to get back into the swing of things writing wise so hopefully I can still post decent enough chapters for you all.

Events of this chapter take place around Season 3 Episode 4.

When there was still no sign of Rebekah, Klaus brought Stefan back to where he kept his family. They found her waiting. She managed to stick her dagger in his chest. Though he only admitted that after Kiara asked why there was a hole in his shirt when he arrived back at the bar later that night. Kiara wished she had been there, but she was busy helping Gloria clean up the bar after Klaus's fight with Damon. A part of her felt bad for encouraging him. She'd just been so pissed off when she remembered the fear she felt right before Damon broke her neck. It felt like an unnecessary betrayal considering he was the one who always seemed to have a problem with her. Now that she'd had some time to calm down, she just wanted to understand why he did it. She had already been running from faulty hybrids—fresh blood still drying on her torn skin. The fear had nearly blinded her to her surroundings. She couldn't remember how to get back to the car. All the trees she was tripping past looked the same. And then suddenly she saw her.

Elena.

But that wasn't possible, was it?

As if sensing someone was looking at her, Kiara looked up and saw the brunette staring at her through the window. She blinked a few times. When the woman waved, Kiara noticed she had wavy hair and stepped outside to see her up close.

"Still with the hybrid I see," the woman said with a smirk on her face.

"Katherine," Kiara laughed. "It's good to see you."

The words made the vampire's eyes soften. "I wish I were here with good news."

"News?"

Katherine nodded. Her eyes scanned the faces of the people passing them by before she said, "We need to talk."

"I'd love to, but Klaus and Stefan are going to be back any minute. And Rebekah should be with them. With your history… well I don't want to see anything happen to you."

"How long will you be in the city?"

Kiara shrugged. "It's hard to say, Klaus is trying to find a way to contact the original witch. He thinks something went wrong when he broke his curse since none of the hybrids he's made so far survive the transition. Gloria thinks that Rebekah has a way to talk to her, but I have no idea how or how long it will take."

"Think you can slip away for a few minutes tomorrow?"

"I can try."

They made arrangements to meet in a coffee shop a few blocks from Gloria's place before Katherine disappeared into the night. It wasn't until after she was gone that Kiara realized she should have asked her about what happened that night. What would she have been doing there with Damon? Last Kiara knew, the two of them were frenemies at best, but she didn't have much time to mull it over before Klaus returned. She felt the familiar tug of their connection once he was in close enough proximity and she made sure to beat him back to Gloria's place.

Unfortunately both Klaus and Rebekah arrived back at the bar in a bad mood. It turns out, the only thing worse than one angry Mikaelson was two angry Mikaelsons. And since the only way Rebekah had to contact the Original witch was through a necklace she lost right before being daggered ninety years ago, they were both quite disappointed when they returned. Kiara couldn't blame them. After all that time, who could say where that thing ended up? Served Klaus right. Daggering his siblings like that was bound to have some consequences eventually.

"And who's this?" Rebekah eventually asked. She approached Kiara, looking her over with a hand on her hip. "A call girl?"

Kiara raised her eyebrows and glanced over Rebekah's shoulder at Klaus. "What did she just call me?"

Stefan laughed while Klaus quickly made his way towards them. "Rebekah, this is Kiara, my…" he paused, clearly unsure of what word to use to describe their relationship at the moment. "... well she's a succubus."

"I'm sorry. She's a what now?"

"A succubus. You know, a demon who seduces men in their sleep?" Stefan offered her the answer, sounding incredibly bored, as usual. "You must have heard of them."

"Of course," Rebekah crossed her arms in front of her. "I was under the impression they were works of fiction."

Kiara offered the blonde a smile. "I wish."

"So that's what you're here for then? You've seduced my brother?"

"Why do you keep assuming I'm banging your brother?"

"Well—"

"Shut up, Stefan," Kiara rolled her eyes.

"My obvious charms aside," Klaus placed a hand on her shoulder. "My dear sister has just woken from a decades long sleep. Much has changed since she's been around. She just needs to get caught up on the latest trends. Maybe go shopping."

Frowning, Kiara looked down at her clothing. "Are you saying it's my clothes?"

She didn't see anything wrong with what she was wearing, much less anything to suggest she was a prostitute. Shorts and combat boots were hardly considered provocative. Though Klaus might have had a point, fashion had changed a lot since the 20s. Rebekah should update her wardrobe. And the next morning that was exactly what they did.

Rebekah dragged the three of them everywhere. Kiara was beginning to see why Klaus liked his sister so much. They were very much alike. Stubborn smartmouths with a short temper, total shopaholics, not to mention drama queens. Although she was still cold towards Kiara, Rebekah insisted she needed a woman's perspective while shopping. Kiara didn't think she was the best person to be giving fashion advice, but it seemed most of what she was saying was being ignored anyway so she went along with it. After hours of store hopping, they found themselves in a more upscale part of the city. There was a chandelier on the ceiling and furniture outside of the dressing room for those waiting to give their opinions. The three of them took a seat while Rebekah slipped into the changing room.

The women working there offered them champagne.

"No thank you," Kiara shook her head. Bad things seemed to happen to her when alcohol was involved. She figured it was better to avoid it. Besides, she glanced up at the clock on the wall, she needed to figure out an excuse to slip out and meet with Katherine. Klaus raised an eyebrow at her and she lifted a shoulder. "It's like two in the afternoon."

Before he could respond, Rebekah called to them from inside the dressing room. "There had to be more to this dress," she said.

"There's not," Klaus told her.

Rebekah stepped out of the little room, pushing aside the curtain with a skeptical expression on her face, almost like she thought Klaus was pulling a prank on her or something. It was a simple black dress. Great for someone needing to build a new wardrobe.

"So all women in the 21st century dress like prostitutes, then?" she said, not even bothering to hide her glance in Kiara's direction.

"Seriously?" Kiara sighed. "What's wrong with this?" She looked down at herself and then at Klaus for an answer. She had purposefully chosen a long sleeved shirt and black pants to prevent such comments from being made.

Klaus smirked and shook his head. "Absolutely nothing. She's always been a jealous little thing."

"You know, I got dirty looks for wearing trousers," Rebekah told them, pointedly ignoring Klaus's comment.

Radiating a bit of Kiara's annoyance, Klaus said, "You wore trousers so women today could wear nothing."

"And what is this music?" Rebekah asked. "It sounds like a cable car accident."

"It's dance music," Stefan told her.

"People dance to this?"

Stefan nodded.

Kiara leaned back in her chair. "I think I have a headache."

"Are we done?" Klaus asked. His eyes on his sister.

"And why are you so grumpy?" Rebekah asked, taking a few steps closer to him.

"I needed one thing from you for my witch to find out why my hybrids are dying, one thing. Your necklace. And you lost it."

"I didn't lose it. It's just been missing for 90 years," Rebekah told him with a simple shake of her head. Then she turned to Stefan and said, "So what do you think?" She turned around so they could see the back of the dress.

It was a bit short for Kiara's taste and she told her so. Stefan, however, said, "I like it." When she gave him an annoyed look, he said, "What? I said I like it."

"I can always tell when you're lying, Stefan," she said before stomping off towards the dressing room.

"Nice one. Good work," Klaus said, reaching for more alcohol.

"You're the one that pulled the dagger out of her," Stefan pointed out.

"I heard that!" Rebekah said from behind the curtain.

Kiara sighed and slapped her legs before standing up. "Well I need some coffee or a Reese's cup, whichever I can get a hold of first," she told them. "I'll be right back."

"Want me to go with you, love?"

"No, that's okay. I saw a coffee place a couple of doors down. I'll be quick."

But Kiara could feel Klaus's hesitation to let her go on her own.

"I'll go with her," Stefan said, standing up despite Kiara's objections. "I could use some fresh air anyway."

The two of them walked out of the store together, but once they were outside and a few stores down, Kiara said, "Okay, so we'll meet back here in like 10 minutes or so?"

"Woah there, what's the rush?"

Kiara rolled her eyes. "I just want a second to myself. Is that really so much to ask?"

"Considering it could get me killed?" Stefan raised his eyebrows. He waited a second for a response with his hands in his pockets. When he didn't get one, he said,"Yes."

When a bus passed them, Kiara glanced towards the street and saw Katherine standing on the sidewalk across from them. She tilted her head to the side, indicating that Kiara should make her way across the street. Stefan followed her eyes. "Oh you've got to be kidding me. Katherine?"

"She showed up last night. Said she had something important to tell me."

"You can't listen to anything she says, she's a liar."

Kiara frowned, but told Stefan the same thing she said to Elijah. "She's my friend."

"Katherine doesn't have friends. She has victims."

"Look I'm going to hear her out no matter what you say, the question is are you going to be a dick and tattle on me, or are you going to be cool for once?"

Stefan scoffed. "Coming from the woman who broke my neck only yesterday."

"I was channeling some serious hybrid rage," Kiara told him, crossing her arms, not wanting to meet his eyes. "You have no idea what it's like being linked to him 24/7." The words made Stefan pause. She glanced back at him. For a second Kiara almost thought she saw pity behind his eyes.

"Is that an... apology? Because it was pretty lame if it was."

Kiara sighed. "Are you coming or not?"

He followed her across the street, of course. Curiosity could be a powerful thing. "What the hell are you doing here?" he asked Katherine as they approached.

Instead of answering, Katherine said, "You and Klaus look chummy. He your new bestie?"

"You know, if he finds out you're in Chicago, you're dead."

Katherine smiled. "Relax, I'm here to help. Happy to know that you still care though."

"Help?" Stefan scoffed. "You've never helped anyone your whole life."

"Really? You can say that with your whole chest? Because she helped me only a few months ago," Kiara snapped.

"Right," Stefan said. "Sure looked like you two were close when she was leaving you in the dust."

Kiara glared at him. "You don't know what you're talking about and I don't have time to explain it to you, either shut up or leave."

"Yeah, Stefan, play nice," Katherine smirked at him. "Now… tell me if I'm wrong, Rebekah's necklace that Klaus is looking for… that's the necklace that you gave Elena."

"Bye Katherine," Stefan said, ready to walk away. Clearly he didn't want to talk about Elena, especially with her doppelganger. But now that she was alone with Stefan, Kiara could feel something was wrong. He was conflicted emotionally: angry, guilty, but mostly scared.

"Hey, hey," Katherine stepped in front of him. There was concern radiating off her and Kiara frowned, realizing she really did still care about him. "Wait. You're up to something. Tell me."

Stefan glanced at Kiara and then back at Katherine. "They don't know where the necklace is. I just have to keep them from figuring it out. I have it all under control."

"Wait," Kiara frowned realizing that Stefan wanted to keep Klaus from getting the necklace. "You know where the necklace is and you're keeping it to yourself?" Was it some kind of revenge thing for dragging him along all these months? Then suddenly, Kiara remembered. The thing that had been itching at her mind since that night.

Damon broke her neck because Kiara didn't see Katherine on that mountain, she saw Elena.

Kiara's eyes widened in realization. So they had managed to save her after all. "Are you saying the necklace is in Mystic Falls?"

"No and if you tell Klaus anything about this, I'll tell him about your meeting with Katherine."

"Relax," Kiara rolled her eyes. "I know how to mind my own business. Speaking of," she turned to Katherine. "You said you had something to tell me?"

"Oh right," Katherine nodded. "The news I came here to tell you, well, it's more like a warning. There's no easy way to say this, but there's a bounty on your head."

"A… what?" Kiara suddenly felt like she'd just stepped back in time.

"I know it sounds crazy, but there's whisperers among the witches. Someone wants you bad. Like dead or alive bad. And they're willing to pay a hell of a lot to get it."

"That's ridiculous. Who would be stupid enough to attack her when she's hanging around with Klaus?" Stefan asked.

"I think you mean… who's desperate enough?" Katherine raised an eyebrow.

Kiara bite the inside of her cheek. "What's he offering?"

"I asked the same thing, the only answer I got was impletio ville."

"The fulfillment of a wish." Kiara nodded. "Vague with pretentious undertones. Sounds like good old dad to me."

Stefan shifted on his feet before saying, "Yeah, well, in that case, we should really head back. Last thing I need is for you to die on my watch."

"Whatever you're planning," Katherine said as Stefan went to walk past her. "it's not gonna work."

"Well, if the most diabolical woman I know can't seem to figure it out, then I must be doing something right."

"Uh-huh. I forgot. You're bad now. Don't get too cocky. Klaus is smarter than you. He's smarter than everyone," Stefan shook his head and started to head back. "And I've heard about that sister," Katherine called after him. "Be careful. She'll ruin you."

"Happy to know you still care."

Kiara knew she had to follow Stefan, but she was still in shock. Her father was either desperate or finally lost his mind. The whole magical community could be looking for her right now. She looked around suddenly, suspicious of each passing face.

"You gonna be okay?" Katherine asked her.

"Yeah," Kiara tried to nod. "Thank you for telling me, Katherine. I appreciate it."

"Be careful."

With a smile, Kiara pulled her into a hug and said, "You too."

"Always." Katherine pulled away from her and disappeared into the crowd of passing pedestrians within seconds.

No longer liking the idea of being alone, Kiara jogged past people to catch up with Stefan. Then they made their way back to the Mikaelson siblings together.

I realize we didn't have too much happen in this chapter. However, I wanted to give you all an update anyway and I promise things will start to pick up again in the next chapter. I am still considering who Kiara might be better off with. There seems to be a lot of conflicting opinions on this matter. Out of curiosity, do you think if I made a poll on Kiara's love life you would want to give your feedback? Just wanting to try to get some data I can look at and see if there is really more of a general consensus on this or not.

As always thank you for reading. 3
