EPISODE 1: Birth of a New Army
The Digital World, a world full of strange creatures known as Digital Monsters, or Digimon. It is a world of unknown origin that has long existed in multiple time lines. In one, it was a parallel world. In another it was created on a computer. While it is always unknown how it came to be, there is always an adventure waiting to happen…
…However, as a result of Digimon Fusion, there was also a fusion of time and space… Bringing the timelines back into balance depends on a group of young heroes… Together, they must go on an adventure to tame the new frontier and save the fused worlds…
xXTHE ADVENTURE BEGINSXx
Shun woke up in the middle of a forest. He was wearing a blue sleeveless trench coat with a high collar, black pants and steel-toed boots, and a white backpack. Around either pant leg was a white belt that went to his waist. He also had blue hair and eyes. In his hand at the time was a gold device of some sort. He got up slowly. He groaned as he clutched his head in pain.
Behind him was a boy in a school uniform with black hair and brown eyes (not that Shun could tell as they were shut). Beside him was a girl wearing a gray jacket, jeans, and brown boots, and she also had auburn hair and gray eyes. (Once again, not that Shun could tell). They were both a few years younger than Shun. He glanced at the device in his hand.
"What is this thing?" he asked himself. Suddenly a piece of memory came back to him.
He was falling through some sort of portal; surrounded by a myriad of colors. He was wearing a black and blue jacket and the belts weren't wrapped around his pant legs. A dull gray device floated before him as he fell. It had two black buttons and a black dial. The center of the dial was black button surrounded by a gold ring. The device also had a screen and had portions of it that were silver.
"What is your name, human?" a disembodied voice asked.
"Shun, Shun Fuki," Shun answered. The dull gray portion of the device made a pixilated transition to gold.
"Shun... That's a fairly common name, but it'll do. Now take this Fusion Loader," the voice replied. Shun took the Fusion Loader. His clothes became surrounded by yellow pixels before becoming his coat and the belts appeared around his pants. He saw the grass getting closer and closer...
"Oh yeah, I guess I hit my head," Shun realized. The other two started waking up. It was then he noticed a silver device in the boy's hand that looked different from the Fusion Loader. There was a yellow and red one in the girl's hand that was different from both. "Well now that you two are awake, my name's Shun, and you are?"
"My name is Osamu," the boy answered.
"My name is Kyo," the girl answered. She then looked around. "Um... where are we?" she asked.
(?)
A yellow dinosaur like Digimon was talking with an orange one. They were in a rocky valley. "I'm sorry, Sparkmon, but you're the first of your kind I've seen," the yellow Digimon said.
The orange one sighed, and then said "I was afraid you would say that." He had three head fins, one on top and one on either side, and each one had a thick black strip. He had a + on his forehead and a – on his stomach. Hiding his claws were black rubber gloves with vents. The scales on his stomach and snout were white. The gaze of his cyan eyes shifted to the ground. "I was hoping someone here would be able to help me find my lost memories."
Seeing Sparkmon's crestfallen expression, the yellow Digimon spoke up once more. "There's a small village in Server Woods you can try," he said.
Sparkmon's eyes lit up. "You think they might know anything?" he asked.
"Yeah, I even know a shortcut to Server Woods," the other Digimon answered.
"Thanks, Agumon! You're a big help!" Sparkmon replied. If someone there knows about my past, I have to go, he thought.
[Server Woods, Oct 23 4:00 PM]
A small lion Digimon was walking through the forest. He had a feeling that someone was waiting for him there. Someone he knew. He, much like normal lion cubs, walked on all fours. "I know there's somebody here that I'm supposed to see, but I just can't find anyone," he complained.
Several floating gear Digimon came out from behind the trees. "INTRUDER!" they shouted. The cat Digimon backed away a few steps, then turned around and took off running. The gear Digimon began repeating "INTRUDER!" while chasing him.
"But I live here!" he complained.
(Sparkmon)
Agumon led Sparkmon to a cliff. Looking down, you could see a forest clearing. "You'll find Server Woods down there," Agumon said.
"Thanks again," Sparkmon said before waving Agumon off. As Agumon walked away, Sparkmon looked down. When he did, he saw several gear Digimon chase a lion one into the clearing. "I guess I'd better go save him," Sparkmon muttered. He jumped off. When he was halfway to the ground, he readied himself. "Thunder Striker!" he bellowed. Electricity crackled from the vents in his gloves before forming a whip.
The second his feet touched the ground, Sparkmon swung his whip, using the momentum to boost the speed and power, and knocked away the majority of the Digimon. "I kinda figured the Machinedra Army would cause trouble," Sparkmon said as he glanced back at the lion Digimon.
On closer inspection, the lion Digimon wore a gold collar with a green gemstone dangling from it.
(Shun)
Shun and co. were walking through the forest. The question they were all thinking about: "How do we get home?" Then Shun heard a few clanging sounds nearby. The group hid behind a bush and peeked out from behind it. They saw a clearing where two creatures were fighting some floating gears. Shun's Fusion Loader beeped. He looked at the screen. It displayed one of those gears in a hologram.
"Hagurumon?" he asked in a low whisper. Below the name and image, it displayed "ROOKIE LEVEL" and some other information.
"Can it really tell us what those things are?" Kyo asked.
"Let's find out," Shun whispered before pointing at the catlike one. "Okay, that one's Liollmon, a Rookie Level like Hagurumon," he whispered with a triumphant smirk. He pointed it at the dino one. Instead of showing a name, "NO DATA" was displayed across his image in red letters. His expression quickly changed to one of nervousness. "Well…" Shun's voice trailed off.
"GENERAL DETECTED." Shun and the others whipped their heads around to see a Hagurumon glaring at them. They quickly stood up. "MUST ELIMINATE!" it shouted.
(Sparkmon)
"Spark Blazer!" Sparkmon bellowed. He spat out a fireball that crackled with electricity. It slammed into a battered Hagurumon, causing it to disperse into data. Working together with Liollmon, he thinned them out quiet a bit.
"MUST DESTROY!"
Sparkmon and Liollmon turned to see three humans and Hagurumon. "I got it," Liollmon assured Sparkmon. "Critical Bite!"
(Shun)
"Critical Bite!" Liollmon bit the Hagurumon as he pounced on it, causing it to burst into a cloud of data. "Kyo, long time no see!" Liollmon said.
"How do you know my name?" Kyo asked.
"But… don't you remember?" Liollmon asked. He frowned. "It's me, Ari!"
"Do you mind if we continue this conversation later?" Sparkmon was running towards them with many Hagurumon following him. They apparently piled back up while Ari was talking with Kyo. Soon everyone was running from the horde of Hagurumon.
"I've got this now, Sparkmon!" Ari announced. Both he and Kyo's Digivice started glowing. "Liollmon Digivolve to…." As Ari grew, his tail split into two. The tuff of red fur on his head spread until it became a mane. As for his collar, it was removed as a pair of silver hoops appeared on each ear. "Liamon!"
Huh, reminds me a little of Pokémon, Shun noted as he watched Ari's Digivolution.
"Get down!" Ari warned Sparkmon. "Thunder of King!" Sparkmon ducked as Ari released a blast of lighting from his mane, which arced toward the swarm of Hagurumon.
It dispatched a few of the ones in the front and then stunned some of the others for a few moments. As this happened, Shun was messing around with his Fusion Loader.
"Tch, there's too many for me even as Liamon," Ari growled.
"I think I can do something if I can figure out how to work this thing," Shun said as his thumb brushed the dial on his Fusion Loader. Out of ideas, he settled for pressing the button on the dial. Both Sparkmon and Ari started glowing.
They both shot into the air as streaks of gold light. Ari seemed to disappear as he made contact with Sparkmon. Sparkmon's muscles buldged as he grew taller by two feet. His gloves seemed to disappear as gold fur covered his hands and forearms.
More fur grew on his forelegs and feet. A tuff of fur sprouted at the end of his tail as it split into two. Ari's mane also sprouted around his neck. To top it off, Ari's silver earrings hung themselves from the fins on either side of Sparkmon's head.
"Oh yeah, now I'm Lia Sparkmon! Now I've gained the power of a Champion Level, and I have the ferocity of a Liamon to boot!" Sparkmon announced.
"DARKNESS GEAR!" The Hagurumon had recovered and each fired a black gear from their mouths. Lia Sparkmon cracked his neck.
"Thunder of King Blazer!" Lightning shot from his mane as he emitted a blast of fire from his mouth, destroying the gears before they reached their targets. "Lightning Claw!" Condensed electricity wrapped itself around his claws as he shot forward. He swiped some of the Hagurumon with his claws, dispatching them easily.
"Thundering Roar!" Knowing that he was to heavily out numbered, he let out the namesake of his attack, blowing back the remaining Hagurumon. He then bolted back to Shun and the others.
He swung Kyo onto his back and then scooped up Shun and Osamu, carrying each of the boys under one arm before bolting deeper into the forest.
"What was with those things and what are you guys anyway?" Shun asked.
"Ari and I are Digital Monsters, or Digimon for short, just like those Hagurumon we're running from. Only those Hagurumon are working for the Machinedra Army," Lia Sparkmon answered.
"Aren't you stronger than them, Sparky?" Shun quizzed.
"First, individually, yes, but there are just too many of them. I'd be exhausted before I would even be able to finish all of them off. We need another Digimon or we can't win at all," The newly dubbed Sparky explained. "Second, it's Lia Sparkmon. Not Sparky. …Although I admit I do like Spark Liamon better, even if Ari isn't the base of this Digifusion."
"Where are we headed?" Osamu asked
"Ari tells me that you might be able to escape back to your world if we go to the Lost Woods. That's where we're headed," Sparky explained.
"Oh great, a version of the Lost Woods that's actually real," Shun deadpanned.
"You know about the Lost Woods? Sparky asked.
"Yeah, it's something that exists in a video game franchise in our world called 'The Legend of Zelda.' They've used it in at least three games, and sometimes if you mess up, you have to start from the beginning of the Lost Woods," Shun explained.
"Our Lost Woods is probably different. In fact, it's different every time you enter it, and you might not get out even if you move in a perfectly straight line, but we're not aiming to cut through the Lost Woods to lose them. What we're after is a gateway that was once open in the center," Sparky told them. "This gateway was how Kyo got home the first time she came to this world."
"Sounds like our best chance considering our alternative," Osamu stated.
"Especially when you consider that Ari's been there more than once," Sparky agreed.
"I think we're already here," Kyo stated as she saw the fog up ahead.
[Lost Woods, Oct 23 4:20 PM]
The second Lia Sparkmon set foot in the Lost Woods, the area behind them became obscured in thick white fog, which prevented them from seeing more than 10 feet around them. Sparky sat down the three humans, and then began to glow as he split back into Sparkmon and Ari, who continued glowing as he returned to his Liolmon form.
"There's no mistaking it, this place is almost like The Lost Woods from Breath of the Wild," Shun observed. As the group looked around, Shun noticed a silhouette dart between the trees.
"Well look who's back," a voice rang through the woods. "Not only did Ari show up for the fourth time, but he brought the very person he was hoping to meet again someday along with a few friends."
"It's been a while, Impmon," Ari greeted. "Has the gateway reopened?"
"Nope, looks like that thing's sealed shut for good!" Impmon answered. Even though the group had presumably seen Impmon's silhouette, his voice seemed to radiate from the trees surrounding them.
"Well that's just great, now we're stuck here while the Machinedra Army is on our tail," Shun pointed out.
"Ah yes, them. I should keep you here until they get here for leading them to me," Impmon said in annoyance. "But then I would only be helping them, now won't I? Tell you what, you can either take your chances running from them, or you can make your way to the center of these woods and free me. If you do, then maybe I'll decide to help fight them off."
"Do we have much of a choice?" Kyo asked.
"Nope!" Impmon answered.
After what seemed like an hour, the group arrived at the center of the Lost Woods. In the center, there was a stone archway, and beyond it was a massive tree.
"Wow, you guys were fast. Did you fly here?" Impmon's sarcastic voice rang through the Lost Woods.
"Do you want us to free you or not?" Shun asked.
"Well aren't you prickly?" Impmon remarked.
"Let's see, we've ended up in a crazy world, got attacked by machines, saved by a talking lizard and lion, and dragged to the Lost Woods," Shun listed. "Gee, I can't think of any reason why I would give you that impression." Shun shook his head and muttered under his breath "Second worst birthday ever."
[?, Oct 23 4:53 PM]
At the same time, a blue haired girl was sitting in a dungeon locked up with a small blue Digimon sitting next to her. "Second worst birthday ever," she grumbled.
[Lost Woods, Oct 23 4:53 PM]
"Relax, once this is over with, the phenomenon that gave this place its name will end, and you can focus on the rest of your problems," Impmon told them. "This place is caused by me being trapped in that big tree. Sparkmon and Ari need to hit the base of it as hard as they can. Strike the same spot both at once. Once they've broken through that, it's Osamu's turn."
"What will you need me to do?" Osamu asked.
"You get the easy part. Just point that Digivice of yours inside, and it'll do the rest. After that, I'll be free," Impmon explained. "Actually, I'll be moving from one prison to another. I just won't be trapped here forever."
"Fine. Ready Sparky?" Shun asked.
"It's Sparkmon. Not Sparky," Spaky reminded him.
"Liollmon Digivolve to… Liamon!"
Sparkmon cracked his knuckles. "Lightning Punch!"
"Kingdom Claw!"
Sparky shot forward, his fist wrapped in lightning. As he did, Ari leapt toward the base of the tree, as Sparkmon's fist landed with an audible Crack! Ari raked his sharp claws against the same spot. As they did this, part of the base of the tree broke away, revealing a glowing orb.
"Do it now!" Impmon told Osamu.
"Right," Osamu responded as he pointed his silver device at the orb.
When he did this, the orb shot into the device, which displayed a strange object onscreen. The fog began to fade afterwards. As if guided by something, Osamu raised his free hand as a ring of code appeared around it with a few gaps.
"Execute! Sprite Evolution!" Osamu shouted as he ran his hand over the device in his other hand.
He was then wrapped in a cocoon of code. When the cocoon disappeared, standing in Osamu's place was a purple Digimon matching the shape of the silhouette from before with the kanji for magic printed on his red scarf.
"Now this is interesting," he said in a voice they recognized as Impmon's. He stretched out his arm and stuck out one finger, and a fireball appeared, dancing a centimeter away from the fingertip. "There's just one problem…" Impmon said. He then looked at Sparkmon. "Now I'm as short as you," he pointed out. In his human form, Osamu was indeed taller than Sparky, but as Impmon, they were now the same height.
"Well at least your other forms will probably be taller," Sparkmon assured him.
"In any case, we should work out a plan. There are a lot of them, but only three of us can do much against them," Shun pointed out.
"He's right. So far, we know there's too many for even Lia Sparkmon to handle alone. But with an Impmon hybrid on our side, we stand a chance," Ari agreed.
"Combining all 3 of us won't work though. If we do, they'll just Digivolve to Guardromon, and then we'll be back at square one," Sparky warned.
"But what if I fused with Sparkmon? Impmon's spirit tells me we have a wide range attack," Osamu pointed out.
"Hm… That wouldn't work any better if we tried that with an ordinary Impmon, but because you're a hybrid, you're much stronger than an ordinary Impmon," Sparky stated.
"Then we can take out the majority by fusing Sparky and Impmon," Shun pointed out.
"I told you twice already-call me Sparkmon instead!" Sparkmon interjected.
"And then the stragglers will Digivolve into Guardromon. That's where I come in," Ari stated.
"That's when we'll switch from Imp Sparkmon to Lia Sparkmon. Impmon should be able to handle at least one of them, and Lia Sparkmon can probably mop up the rest," Shun told them.
[Lost Woods, Oct 23 5:15 PM]
Shun, Kyo, and Ari were all hiding in the bushes as they watched the Hagurumon approach. When they were close enough, Sparkmon leapt out of his tree.
"Thunder Striker!" Catching them off-guard, Sparkmon struck out with his lighting whip, knocking some of the Hagurumon backward.
"Freezing Night of Blizzards!" Osamu also leapt from his cover in his Impmon form, launching blue fireball, half freezing another Hagurumon.
"Now. Sparkmon. Impmon. Digi-fuse."
Both Sparkmon and Impmon shot into the air as streaks of gold and purple light. Impmon seemed to disappear as he made contact with Sparkmon. As Sparkmon began to grow in height again, his gloves removed themselves. Impmon's gloves slipped themselves on as his orange scales turned purple. Next, Impmon's scarf tied itself around his neck and a spike sprouted at the end of his tail. To top it off, Impmon's horns sprouted atop his head.
"Imp Sparkmon!" The newly fused Digimon didn't have time to give himself a once over has he slammed his hands onto the ground. "Summon!" A portal opened, releasing shards of ice and bolts of electricity that hung in the air. "And now Night of Storms!"
Imp Sparkmon directed the ice and electricity into the group of Hagurumon before him. The majority of them were skewered with ice, blasted with electricity, or both before bursting into clouds of data, leaving only three behind.
"THREAT LEVEL 3. INTIATE DIGIVOLUTION," the remaining Hagurumon said at once.
"HAGURUMON DIGIVOLVE TO… GUARDROMON!"
"Liollmon Digivolve to… Liamon!"
After the Hagurumon finished Digivolving into Guardromon, a trio of brown robotic Digimon, Ari jumped from his hiding place.
"Disengage fusion! Sparkmon! Liamon! Digi-fuse!"
Not a second after Sparkmon and Impmon separated; Sparkmon and Ari became Lia Sparkmon.
The Guardromon held up their arms and missile launchers extended from their wrists. "FIRING GRENADE DESTROYER!" they bellowed. They each fired missiles from their wrists. The missiles had whistles, arms, and eyes, which made them look kind of silly.
"Badaboom!"
"Thunder of King Blazer!"
Impmon shot a fireball from his finger at the oncoming rockets while Lia Sparkmon fired a blast of fire and electricity. The rockets exploded, creating a large smokescreen.
"Machinegun Kick!"
"Lightning Claw!"
Both Digimon used the smoke to their advantage, jumping out at the Guardromon. Impmon delivered several midair kicks to the head of one Guardromon while Lia Sparkmon began to lash out at the other two with his lighting claws.
"Night of Blizzards!" Impmon raised one arm as shards of ice appeared before directing them at his Guardromon opponent with one finger. The shards of ice ripped through the Guardromon until it was reduced to a cloud of data.
"Critical Claw!" Taking this as his cue, Lia Sparkmon focused on one of the Guadromon he had been occupying and began striking at weak points in its armor with his claws until it met the same fate as its predecessor. "Thunder of King Blazer!"
"Badaboom!" As Lia Sparkmon launched his blast of fire and lightning, Impmon launched a fireball from the other side of Guardromon. Both attacks found their mark, but instead of disintegrating like its fellow machine Digimon, it started glowing again as it shrunk down into a ball shaped Digimon. I was covered in striped blue fur with pointed ears and a tail.
"Huh, that's weird," Shun commented as he and Kyo walked out of the bushes. He pointed his Fusion loader at the Digimon. "Wanyamon, an In-Training Level."
"It's just as I was afraid of," Sparky said before separating back into Sparkmon and Liamon, who then reverted back to Liollmon. "If that Wanyamon is here then that means they took over the Village of Beginnings."
"The Village of Beginnings is where Digimon are reborn in this world. When a Digimon is deleted, their data travels all the way back there," Ari explained.
"Alright, so how do you know this Wanyamon came from there and why didn't it disappear like the rest?" Kyo asked.
"It's the way that Hagurumon's Darkness Gear works. Normally they merely control Digimon, but the Hagurumon of the Machinedra Army are much different. They can cause a Digimon they take over to Digivolve into a Cyborg or Machine Digimon, and in the case of this Wanyamon, it's unfortunate enough to be capable of Digivolving into another Hagurumon. As for why it's still here, the rest of enemies were probably just fakes," Sparky explained. Shun grimaced.
"Then we have to do something, even if we only want to get home and not deal with the Machinedra Army," Shun stated. "If we do nothing, they will only keep coming after us, and with that village under their control, they will only grow in numbers."
"I'm new to being a Digimon, and even I know we don't have the mon power for that," Impmon pointed out.
"Osamu's right. What can we do?" Ari asked.
"It's simple, isn't it? We get other Digimon to help us and we get stronger while we're at it," Sparky answered. "I was heading to a small village in Server Woods when I saw Ari in trouble. I vote we head there."
"Why should we head there?" Impmon asked.
"Because Sparkmon's been looking for his lost memories for ten years, and this is probably the only lead he's got," Ari answered.
"As a matter of fact, I lost my memories about the same time Ari met Kyo," Sparkmon mentioned. "That's beside the point though. If I can Digivolve and just don't remember how, then I need to remember as much about my past as I can."
"Well, as long as we're sharing," Shun stated as he sat next to the unconscious Wanyamon. "Anyone else got something that happened 10 years ago out of the ordinary?" he asked as he turned his gaze to the ground.
"Well, 10 years ago, I was four, so it's no wonder I don't remember Ari too well," Kyo stated.
"I had a weird dream 10 years ago. I think I saw Impmon in there," Osamu added.
"I lost my dad when I turned 8 in a car accident. We thought he must be dead, but… I'm not so sure anymore," Shun stated. "Nobody ever found his body anywhere. It was as if he just disappeared. Since then, it's been exactly ten of the hardest years of my life, and yet here I am, hearing about a little girl appearing in a world of Digimon about the same time as one of said Digimon losing his memories while being in said world."
"…Wait, are you saying…" Sparkmon trailed off.
"I am," Shun said as he looked up at Sparkmon. "These events we're speaking of, they're all connected somehow. People don't just vanish in the middle of a car accident. He's stranded somewhere in this world, just like us."
(?)
Somewhere in side the command center of a fortress, some Digimon were overlooking computer monitors. In the center of the room was a large Digimon shaped like a dinosaur. "Lord Machinedramon, the entire unit guarding sector 134 was just wiped out," one of the smaller Digimon reported.
"Who is responsible for this?" the large one asked.
"A hybrid, a general, a tamer, and two Digimon: Rookie and Champion levels," the same Digimon as before answered.
"Show me," Machinedramon ordered. A holo screen appeared in front of him playing back the entire battle. When Sparkmon appeared on the screen, Machinedramon's eyes glowed red.
